I am not sure if you are just venting or are genuinely curious as to what other people think, haha. If the former, please ignore this and accept an apology for my ignorance. I think it, for some people--if not a majority--at least, it holds an air of satisfaction. Maybe in knowing that they've elicited emotion from someone or maybe they genuinely think that people are vouching on them and how funny they perceive themselves as. And in being the internet, it's really easy to forget that you are talking to other, real human beings that perceive and feel similarly to them. It's easy to think that your actions have no consequences when you don't really know how you've affected other people. And let's face it, people love not having to face the ramifications of their actions. Sort of like video games, people do bad things in video games, but it's not a big deal because it doesn't really affect anyone; except on the internet they are dealing with other real people, and they are either too ignorant or too apathetic to really process that. I'm not sure if some trolls have attacked you recently, or you've just seen it around, but I hope it isn't affecting you too much. If so, I do hope you the best in the near future, aha.
