I don't think the 'lying or sitting' is correct. But I'm not very good at English. 

I'd rather go for :


"So I have just started my phone , lying and sitting in my bed as I was waiting for a text but neither of them texted me"


(I am not an expert , im a neko after all)

are all this actions set in the past or recent to present


if so :


"So I had started my phone , I was lying and sitting as I was waiting for a text , but neither of them texted me"


^for past (not 100% correct)

i would go with


So, I just stared at my phone, lay or sat down on my bed as I waited for a text- but neither of them text messaged me.

@Tremtie sounds wrong to me, no offense. And it doesn't match the preceeding sentence: "I wanted to send either one of them a text but I cannot seem to muster what to tell."

yes, because text on its own just means 'words' so 'text message' would mean ' an electronic communication sent and received by mobile phone. '
