This ability was not noticed until the death of her sister Hanama. And for many years after that, her gift was considered sadness, until a visit from a shugenja from the Isawa clan. This master recognized it for what it truly was and offered her family a place within his school where she could master the skills needed to embrace it. Her family found it unsettling as they had started training her in the art of buso, but relented after a time. She was sent away at 11 years of age, slightly behind that of other students. While she is not likely to master her Void quickly, she has already shown great promise among her teachers.

Kimita's sister, Hanama, was killed in combat. Nearly 9 years her elder, Kimita respected her more than either of her parents, more than most of her ancestors. While she can't explain which of her ancestors felt Kimita needed guidance, her sister returned to Kimita in dreams and visions, coaxing her to complete her training. The first appearance came when the shugenja offered her a place in the Isawa School, and she pushed Kimita to accept the position. Since then, Hanama has given instruction to Kimita when she needs it most, or sometimes when she wants it least. If the ancestors which to speak to her, Hanama is their messenger.

Kimita never intended to love Isawa Tidashi, but it happened. He promised to wait until she finished her schooling and they would marry, but she started he schooling late and another opportunity presented itself to the family. While no formal bonds were prepared between Kimita and Tidashi, she still feels the betrayal. And when her school attended the wedding, she maintained the hardest stare of any of the students. She did not break her expression until the ceremony and celebrations were over and she was alone.

From the earliest moment, she was taught of the sanctity of life, that what gods had created were not meant to be destroyed. Even in war. Even in anger. Even for restoring one's honor. Errors may be made, and that is to be regretted. Duty is to be fulfilled, and forgiveness is to be sought. Her sister, Hanama, who died a year ago. She left her a series of letters that provide guidance for her. Not to mention, her ghost still talks to her at times.
What are your character’s greatest strength and weakness?
Her strength is the ability to draw directly on the Void. Her weakness is her youth and inexperience.
What does your character think of bushido?
It is the foundation upon which honor and glory may be built. To fail in following the path of bushido is to fail to understand the importance of life in the universe.
What is your character’s opinion of his own clan?
They founded Rokugan and they should be responsible for running it, as part of a council of the clans in service to the Empress.
Is your character married?
Not yet, though marriage propositions have been suggested. She had a boy she loved in her youth, and they had promised to wait for her to complete her schooling before marrying. But two years ago, his family announced his betrothal to another girl, two years younger than they. This devastated her, and she has been slow to accept any announced intentions to meet with her.
Does your character have any prejudices?
Not many. She doesn't like the warlike nature of the Lion Clan, but is willing to accept it from the Crab Clan
To whom does your character owe the most loyalty?
The memory of her sister who she sees as a prime example of bushido
What are your character’s favorite and least favorite things?
Her favorite are the letters given to her by her sister before dying. Her least favorite is the announcement of her promised boyfriend marriage to his wife.
Does your character have any recurring mannerisms?
She does like to count things in her head, as if to keep herself steady. Sometimes she will seem more distant as she counts her heartbeats when she tries to quiet her emotions.
What about your character’s emotions?
Her emotions are properly suppressed, but they are easily visible just below the surface. While she can suppress how she responds, she isn't good enough to hide them well.
How would you handle a subordinate’s improper behavior?
She would appear very frustrated but remain silent hoping at they will understand their misstep and never repeat it. Then make a sincere apology to the offended individual
How would your character’s parents describe him?
Her mother would say she is out of her element as a Shugenja, but her father would disagree. Her talents would have been wasted as a Bushi, and she has a chance to excel beyond her boundaries this way. Both would comment that she is a bit too studious, but would admit that she seems to handle herself well.
