DWMA New Student Orientation
Student Resources
As you can see, there are ample resources available to help new students become familiar with and acquainted with our fine academy here. The Student Handbook is mandatory for all new students to read because Lord Death will uphold those rules to their highest standards and any student who breaks those rules will face appropriate consequences even if they haven’t read them. Beyond the student handbook, it is advised that all students become familiar with our basic lore and the other students attending our academy.
Applications are reviewed on a weekly basis and responses will be delivered to each applicant directly via private message (PM). If a character is accepted, that student may attend classes that very same day. No student is ever outright denied. If there are problems with an application, DWMA staff will work with the applicant to make corrections so that attendance is possible.
Attendance
If you haven’t already figured it out, DWMA is a very large place with a wide range of opportunities for students to become involved in. Given the vastness of the academy, there are a few ground rules that need to be established in order to ensure both flexibility and structure. There are two mandatory semesters - a fall semester and a spring semester - in which students attend graded classes designed to provide a basic education while also offering lessons specific to a student’s abilities as a weapon or a meister. Although we do have larger lecture halls and we often run group classes, the DWMA also has days that tend to be less formal and structured. Professors are often available for private lessons with students to work on specific skills. If you are interested in a private lesson, please ask a GM and it shall be arranged. Due to some of the lacking in organization at times, there are a few requirements we make of students.
- Unless you are attending an event or participating in a mission, include a date at the top of your post. Roleplay staff will work to ensure time flows adequately. You can refer to their posts for the current IC date. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, try to keep location threads moving in a linear fashion. It would get very confusing if two people fought one day and then a group of people still writing in a previous day happened to stumble upon them.
- In general, you have two weeks in real life (IRL) to post whenever you are tagged in something. Failure to post can lead to your status being changed from 'active' to 'inactive'. If you are unable to post, please inform a moderator. Excused and long term absences from school are allowed and informing a moderator will make your return to school much smoother. As a general courtesy, it is polite to wait on a reply from a person you tag before moving on to something else. If you would like to plan a significant interaction, it is highly recommended that you use the OOC for communication to ensure that both parties are available. This keeps you from holding anyone else up in the event that you become to busy to respond. Roleplay staff reserve the right to end an interaction and advance time at any point within the roleplay and they will make use of this right if an interaction seems to be holding up a group of students.
The Mission Bulletin
The first step in joining any mission will always be to sign up within the recruitment thread itself. Simply tag the sponsoring roleplay staff member and tell them which character you would like to put into the mission. After the mission has received enough participants, it will begin. While the mission is running, the recruitment thread should be used as an OOC for all players involved in the mission.
The IC Mission Bulletin is for in-character actions. When your character chooses to go to the Mission Bulletin, they could simply peruse missions and decide nothing interests them or they could select a mission and proceed to sign up. If you choose to roleplay your character selecting a mission, you must still indicate your interest in the mission’s recruitment thread. This is NOT optional.
Missions are arguably the most important component of the roleplay itself. Missions are where the plot happens most of the time. Character development is spurred on by missions. Conflict is initiated and resolved within missions. And once a mission is completed, it will be moved into the Archive forum as information revealed within them could remain pertinent to the rp for some time after the mission itself is completed. Missions also open up an opportunity for more player involvement. The option exists for players to submit their own ideas for missions and then run them with other players. All missions will ultimately be supervised by at least one roleplay staff member; however, various plots can and are appreciated to be submitted from the student body.
Important Note: The Mission Bulletin subforum is currently undergoing repairs and reworkings so there are no missions running for the time being. All roleplaying and attendance is handled at the DWMA proper.
