    Other Roleplay Pet Peeves

This talk of fetishizing reminds me of another one of my pettier peeves... - When writers keep telling me how beautiful their character is. This one merits a little explanation. I love to read good description, and I always appreciate when writers work little bits of character description in...

    Other Roleplay Pet Peeves

What everyone's getting at, using LGBT characters as an example, is the annoying habit of some writers to randomly tack identities and designations upon their characters without doing any of the prerequisite research necessary to understand the relevance of said identity/designation at even a...

    Other Roleplay Pet Peeves

You folks bring up some great peeves. One I'd like to add is: - Writers being actively mean to other writers for goofing up grammatical rules. It's one thing to ask (or, hell, demand) that your roleplay partner try to observe good writing rules. It's quite another to deride and hiss at them...

Viewpoint Do you ever play the opposite gender? Do you prefer it?

I think a really surefire way to write believable characters of any gender is just to ask, "What does it mean to be (gender) in this world my character lives in?" That way, a writer is focusing more on tangible, multi-dimensional factors that add depth to a specific character rather than just...

Deal Breakers. What makes you "walk" away?

I had no idea there was a term for this! Yes, I think the three of us are on the same page about these types; they're just a bit hard to isolate and define.

Deal Breakers. What makes you "walk" away?

You know, I think another tangential deal-breaker's come up here (at least for me): when people HEAVILY front-load information about their characters, spending consecutive pages and pages on static back-story information. I'm extremely interested in getting to learn about others' characters, but...

Viewpoint Do you ever play the opposite gender? Do you prefer it?

I think you make a sharp observation and important distinction there, @Winter_ . It seems like a lot of women tend to gravitate towards writing men because... a lot of other roleplayers royally SUCK at writing women, and this suckage gives rise to a lot more roleplayers who expect a really...

Deal Breakers. What makes you "walk" away?

Really, I don't think the amount of dialogue a character spouts has much to do with how interactive they are. I've played with characters who say a ton, but who don't really interact meaningfully with anyone or anything in the plot, or contribute to story building. A personal example of this...

    LET'S DO THIS! Intro Post

Thank you for such a super warm welcome, @meraki. ! It feels good to be back into it. Bit nervous, but mostly good. It is Duchess! Ev-ry-body wants to be a cat... I don't want to give myself undue creds! I've published short stories, but I'm not a novelist yet. Hopefully I'll get there one day...

    Music Guilty Pleasure Songs

Pink! Like a lot of you who have shame-faves, I grew up listening to her, and a lot of her old hits still do it for me. (Objectively, Dear Mr. President is good protest art, though it is dated very specifically.)

Fantasy [CLOSED] Seeking 1x1 adv. lit partner for medieval fantasy and/or historical fiction drama. Could we be RP soulmates? Come see!

"[Something]-lit" is just an old RP term; The exact definition's not all that firm But you've defined it pretty well, if you ask me. It means giving a shit about poetry and caring about the writing itself, not only action and plot and that's about all the explanation I've got ;)

Deal Breakers. What makes you "walk" away?

This is a super helpful breakdown for a newb like me; I hadn't picked up on the divisions yet, and it looks like I almost ended up tagging my interest check post incorrectly. Thanks for the explanation!

Fantasy Looking for RP Partners/New Friends

Any chance you're still open? I just found my way over to the Looking-For forums, and it seems like we could be a good fit. I'm mostly versed in original medieval fantasy, but I'm also a huge TES fan and willing to give that world a whirl.
