Who Says

After her sister failed wake-up attempts, her dress-up marathon, and her morning rush, Isobel awaited by the door to escort her sister and herself to the day ahead.

This was the first time in years that the girls started to live alone again ever since their uncle found them again. While she enjoyed their reunion and how he treated them by not overstepping his boundaries, she enjoyed being with her sister as they tried to jump any incoming obstacles together. No matter what happened, it was always them together in the end. Isobel would not have had it any other way given the circumstances they were graced with in life.

Like her sister, Isobel needed to plan everything and get ahead of her plans so she was not surprised by anything. In fact, she had made alarms to do so even though they turned out relatively unsuccessful. She and Luci had planned to get up early so they can double check the locations of each of their classes together so they wouldn't get lost. It was the first time that they were going to be separated from their own subjects. It felt weird to Isobel but she was also glad her sister was now spreading her own wings after encapsulating her and the family for so long.

Isobel was very grateful for her showmance changing time, otherwise, they would have never made it on time for their plan. That much she had faith in. Even after listening to Luciana's laugh, she couldn't help but giggle as she had been preparing. Her sister had faith too.

Isobel offered her arm as a way of extending a courting gesture for her twin,
"Looking very vivid my love today."
. She shot her a wide lip glossed smile as she let Luci loop her arm through her own before motioning them both out to close the door behind them. As she found herself outside she looked around at fellow students that were flooding the corridors with the same plan in mind.

Looking at Luci and then at her phone for her timetable she frowned,
"I would assume so, that will show us where the departments are. I know I have Dancing first thing and then Theater... so I would assume they are in the same department area thing... what about you Luci?"
she inquired. Looking around for any signs she noticed one in the distance and she motioned the pair to the sign which had directions that included the direction of the student quad pointing to the left,
"I am guessing it is this way,"
she pointed towards the sign above her in an obvious manner for her own sake.

With that, she directed them to a point where there was a huge board of the University's map.

"My my this is enormous... we are barely gonna cover these grounds in one day... especially since we both have classes this morning. When is your first free period so we can get back to walking around?"
Isobel hummed in a thinking pose, resting one arm on her hip and the other with a finger skimming the board for something related to her subject in question.

Have it All

She really hoped she did not tank the rest of the relationship with her roommate. She had to share a space with him so she sure hope she did not. But from the tone of greeting voice, they seemed to be on the same page.

Elena was waiting for her brother to beckon her call as she looked around the corridor. She took time to admire the shades of the paint the corridor had. In another train of thought, Elena wanted to simply fill in all the blank spaces on it. It was very plain. A splash of colour would give it character. However, on queue, she heard a familiar voice that was accompanied seconds later by a familiar frown face.

The brunette simply shrugged with a scrunched nose as her freckles came closer together,
"I'm sorry, I am just reaaaally excited!"

Elena could not help but laugh lightly as she closed her eyes when he ruffled her hair. Most people would hate it but Elena loved it. Plus apart from not being one to fuss about appearances, her curly hair was already all over the place without it. Darting back to her brother's second question,
"Never been more ready!"

With that, she placed the board on the floor again and balanced herself on it waiting for Gabriel to saunter out so they can head around. And so, they went at a steady pace as Elena set the wheels slowly in motion enough to keep up with her brother's walking. Lena just really hoped no one busts her with the skateboard, she always used it to keep her lung capacity at bay to avoid walking.

"Lmao, I almost got a heart attack from my new roommate and also probably deserved it... I did notice him the last second,"
she muttered as she facepalmed in humiliation.
"Not to mention almost killed someone by my skateboard... but the morning has been quite eventful if I say so myself,"
she commented with a smile on her face whilst looking back to her not so morning loving brother.
"How was your morning thus far? You look like you been up a while..."
she tried to mimic his theatrical voice to tease him but he really did not seem like he had a good night's rest,
"How was your first night without sister dearest? Clearly shit..."

Papercut

Valentina was already grateful enough to have a cup of dark roast waiting for her. It was already ten times better than the little food she was given back when she was trapped in that bottomless pit called a mental hospital. She enclosed the mug with the palms of her hand as she felt the warmth of the ceramic from the warm beverage slowly disperse. She looked up at him with a small smile,
"Thank you for the uh... coffee. Just how I love it,"
, she said softly, clearing her throat.

As he replied to her drinking comment, she let out a soft sigh of understanding,
"Ah... no no we don't want that. Let's leave all the ghosts in the past, with the bad men,"
she assured as her now warm hand slowly reached out to be placed on top of his. She knew he was not a fan of human touch or his skittishness towards it but Valentina had slowly managed to at least get a handhold as she tried to slowly accustom him back to small gestures. She would love to think he made progress for not jumping or yanking every time she tried these past years.

The ticking progressed and it got louder, Valentina's eyes could not help but dart around. Her body stiffened as she closed her eyes briefly trying to let them blend with the background before his voice surpassed all the noise.

Being drawn back her chocolate brown eyes focused on him,
"Yes, furniture. I know we don't have much in store but I think it will do us good to have a look around. It's best to try and make your apartment at least homier should your nieces come to visit."
. Although she was not in their good graces (at least that was the vibe she got), she loved how Santiago cared about them and got the chance to reunite with his thought-lost family. Seeing them together brought her a sense of joy he so deserved and she wished.

Taking her hand away from him she reached for her bag and sifted through for her medication before popping them out of the case and placing them on the table. She placed them on her tongue and took a sip of her coffee to shower them down. Val loved it when it was still warm as the heat never bothered her. There it was... silence. She sighed happily and leaned back into her chair looking much calmer, hoping he didn't pick up that she had an episode. She hated he always worried when she had an episode.

Going back to his previous question she hummed in agreement and nodded,
"Right, furniture-looking and maybe some grocery shopping? At least we have one functioning fridge..."
she chuckled at the last comment. Santiago had gotten a better offer in his apartment as Valentina had no expenses hers was a blank canvas that needed to be built.

In order to do that, she needed a job. A job she yet not has. That was another bone to pick...

Butterfly Fly Away

Cassandra was scared and her cries were instantly heard as Andres shot his eyes open at his name being called by her soft voice.

She looked over at him from the edge of the bed as he shifted for her so she had the space she needed to lie down. Cassandra let herself laid down on the bed right in front of him in the empty space and curled up her legs to her chest with Nelly in between,
"Thank you Andy... it was really dark."

Cassandra had no trouble knowing that he would rescue her and protect her from the darkness. As he always did like his siblings and the rest of the misfits do.

Feeling his small arms around her she placed her own arm on top of his as her hand was placed on top of his.
"We can see if it is possible... I think Mama would not mind that,"
she said in between yawns as she closed her eyes rather easily knowing that her prince was right behind her. She usually had Danny or Noemi with her but they had parted ways to their own dorms and she did not want to disturb Blake from her slumber knowing very well she had to endure her first day of teaching so she needed her full rest.

Cassandra could feel the night's tire from her lack of sleep hit her like a ton of bricks.
"We could,"
she stifled another yawn.
"Thank you..."
a soft hum escaped her lips before closing her eyes with one final yawn,
"...my prince."

With that Cassandra slowly drifted off to sleep she shifted closer in her sleep for the morning that was a couple of hours away. Nothing could have possibly hurt her now.

He nodded in agreement with the finality in her words. Yes. Leave the ghosts behind, leave them with the bad men. They weren't needed now, and they definitely weren't productive to moving forward in life. Something of which he was in desperate need of. His nieces were working to get themselves out of the past, and it was time for him to do the same now.

"Yes...leave it all in the past." he murmured, taking another sip of his coffee. At the warmth of Val's hand hovering over his own, Santiago felt himself relax ever so slightly. While he doubted he would be what one considered sane, just being around Val, someone who understood, made him feel like he could one day claim to have some form of sanity.

He cleared his throat, trying to dispel the somber mood. "Yeah, when the girls come by, I want to at least have some stuff set up for them. Then uh we can go out some other time and they can make it their own..." he mumbled. "I do need another couch or something, tables...if we're all here we won't have enough space...and yes...groceries..."

He sighed, so much to do today. Finishing his cup, he stood, moving to put his mug in the sink. He'd rather get moving sooner rather than later. He hated the idea of going to a store while it was packed. He didn't like the idea of being surrounded by others on all sides. He doubted Val would enjoy it much either...

Yes, better to go now than wait for the height of business.

She grinned at the compliment, giving a small exaggerated bow at her sisters words. Luciana chuckled as they left their dorm, but she did agree with the amazement that her sister was displaying.

"Dance, huh? Hmm," she paused, trying to think back to her class schedule. "I think I have English Lit. first. So I'm assuming I'd be close to the Arts Department, considering my major coincides with arts."

Following her sister's gaze, she nodded before they headed towards the Student Center. When they stopped in front of the large map of campus, she sighed. Lord, it was going to take her forever not to get lost. Hopefully she didn't end up late to her classes. She knew that her choice in classes where kind of opposites, so no doubt she'd spend a few days a week running across campus, trying to arrive on time.

Well, it was one way to help stay in shape at least. She sighed.

"Yeah, we're probably going to be figuring this place out for a while," she lamented. "Well, here's to finally finding a place to land for good this time." she joked.

Turning so she could rummage in her bag, she hummed in happiness when she managed to find her schedule. Pulling it out so she could look for her next free period, she tilted her head. Wow she had packed her schedule a bit, hadn't she?

"I...think I have a free period this afternoon. I think I have my english and writing classes in the morning and then around lunch I'm free? And then I'm heading across campus for sports and fitness."

With that, he was more than happy to accept the second plate she'd gotten for him, eager to sit down and eat. He would never turn food away, but food made by his dear roommate? You'd have to pry it away from his cold, dead hands. Not to mention, he couldn't cook himself, so he was always ready to accept a home cooked meal no matter how much he enjoyed eating out at times.

"Thanks for breakfast." he grinned at her, from his spot across the table. "Delicious as always." he complimented.

He paused though, at her hesitant request. Of course, he didn't mind walking her, hell, he was happy that she'd asked him, it gave them more time together and that was never something he'd turn down. He just hated to see her hurrying to correct herself by saying he didn't need to when she clearly wanted him to. He didn't mind, he hoped he always managed to make it clear that he enjoyed spending time with her.

"Of course I can, Dani." he told her, his voice lacking his normal light tone. He was serious, and he wanted her to understand that she would never be an inconvenience to him. "You know I don't mind, you just gotta ask me, and I'll do it."

"Yeah, I've been up a while. Reading a script." he explained. Reaching out he ruffled Elena's hair, a smirk on his face. "Watch it little sis, don't wanna get used to always insulting your brother. One day you'll do it in public and everyone will think you're a heathen." he teased.

While he joked, he knew she was right. He probably looked tired, and to be honest, he was. He'd been up already for a few hours, having spent his restless energy on familiarizing himself with the script he'd stored in his bag. He didn't mind too much, it was something he'd gotten used to long ago, back when mom had still been alive and he'd had to take over helping care for her at night. With a sigh, he stretched out his arms, ready to start the trek across campus to head to the dance studio.

Least he'd have some exercise to wake him up.

Noemi couldn't tell him the truth. That her flirting had caused some unwanted trouble. She didn't want to bother him with that. She knew that if she said something, Cesar would do his best to pummel those idiots to the ground, which was something that they didn't need right now. She didn't need right now. "Baby, I'm fine. I just...don't want to go to classes, you know me?" She said softly as she pulled away from him before going to back to the hug. Giving him a fake smile to make it seem real for him to back off. Noemi again shook her head "Everything is fine cutie. Especially since I had my morning hug from you. Don't worry so much about me baby. You know I'm always fine." She said with the smile towards him

Noemi is always fine. Especially since Dani's incident. It triggered something in her, now she makes sure that she doesn't make any waves. She keeps her feelings, her true feelings to herself. She wants the attention to be on her sister. Dani needed it right now, and it would be wrong for it to be taken away because of the stupidness that she had fell into. It was her fault for flirting with them and giving them the wrong idea. She should have known better. "I know baby, just thought I try to see if you would skip. I luckily don't have class today. I went...online for some of my classes. " She said to him. "Easier for someone to be with the kids, while Mama B is teaching...but actually today I think she's taking them to her first class...which is with you I think?"

That was a lie. The reason she switched to half her classes online, is to help with avoiding the world. Plus the classes she switched, were ones with the guy's friends in. She feels her phone dings and she sighed. Even though she hadn't seen him or his friends for the entire break, they found a way to harass her. They found her number, and now is insulting her and...hurting her with words. She glances at her phone and sighed in relief as she just sees it's a text for DanDan. She smiled and texted her back as she twisted around so her backside was laying against Cesar.

DanDan: Meet me in Cesar's dorm afterward? I just want some cuddles from my favorite sister. Everything is fine, you are so much like your brother. He asked the same thing. See you later Dan Dan!

Noemi turned right back to Cesar as he plays with her hair. She smiled and softly sighed as she leaned into his touch. Everything was better when she was in the arms of her favorite Mosquera sibling. "Darling, I'll walk you to class, and then stay in your room. DanDan is coming as well for cuddles!" She said grinning, a first true one of the day. She could survive today if she had them waiting for her. Noemi would always survive when she has the Mosqueras...they were her best friends. She took his hand and smirks at him.

"Baby, are you gonna stand there all day looking cute, or are we ready to go?"

Tomas smiled at her. He was one lucky man, to have found a woman like Josefina. The way she understood him, the way she loved him. It was something amazing to him. She loved him without reason and without question. He was so very lucky. They haven't been able to spend much time together since Tomas has been working and so have his wife. Knowing that they needed the time together, it was something that he was happy to provide. He'll use any excuse to stay by her side. "Mi corazón, any time with you is wonderful. " He blushes as she took his hand smiling at her.

"My day starts with you, mi amor. " He tells her as they get into the kitchen. She turns off the alarm that was ringing in his ears loudly. If Danitza was here...that alarm would been destroyed....if she was here. His mind turned to sadness. Thinking about his young niece that was taken away too soon. She was the heart of the older cousins. Danitza, Isobel, Cesar, and Luciana were such a tight-knit group of cousins. His baby girl, Madicella just followed Dani like a puppy, if Andres wasn't keeping her attention. He misses the way he would watch them play together, and be a family. He missed his family, he softly shook his head as Jo gave him a slice of warm freshly made bread, and a cup of orange juice. It wasn't of course a lot to some people, but it was enough for him. This was enough for him.

She was more than enough for him.

Tomas grabbed a piece of warm bread, and some honey to spread on there. He softly took a bite closing his eyes at the taste of the delicious food. His wife was a miracle. She could make anything taste beautiful, before her powers and after. It didn't matter to him that she didn't have the power of healing anymore. That wasn't the reason he married her, he married her because he fell in love with her from the moment they met. He was hers, from that smile to her eyes. From the first conversation to the last one. He was hers. Tomas never wanted anything to change. He was home with her. "This is maravilloso, mi amor. " He told her with a smile as he finishes his piece of bread, grabbing another and quickly finishes that piece as well. Getting up and stretching, as he moves to go back into the bedroom.

"I'm gonna get dressed, luz de mi vida." He told her as he kissed her softly and gave her a soft hug. He couldn't keep his hands to himself. Could you blame him? Look at her, she was beautiful and wonderful. He was one lucky man. "I'll be right out and then we can head out, luz de mi vida." Tomas heads to the bedroom but before he did, he turned to her and smiled one last time. "Gracias por el desayuno, mi corazón. And he goes into their bedroom to get changed.

God, he loves that woman.

Madi shook her head as she signed to her roommate that thought that oreos was a respectable choice for nutrition in the morning. Alison, oreos is a snack. Not a meal. I'm going to start hiding them. She gave her a look to test her. Madi when it comes to the people she cares about is highly protective. Their health is her number one reason to cook and make yummy food. She rolled her eyes at the mwah and just started to clean her mess. She looked back as her best friend ate all the food quickly.

She was definitely cooking again if that was the reaction she got when she did.

Madi was finishing dishes when Bear came over, telling her that she wanted to take over the duty as a thank you. She just kissed Bear's cheek softly as a thank you. She went to sit down and watches the girl that have been occupying her mind as late. Something about her made Madi happy. She only smiled at her. She never really did that aside from her family. She never really wanted to then this girl with her sass, and her humor came around and Madi was laughing and smiling. She just had the ability to make her smile, and give her hope. She doesn't know whether the butterflies in her stomach as she watched her wash her dishes meant anything yet. She just knew that she wanted to be by her side for a very long time if she could. She shook out of her thoughts as she asked her a question.

I have class. I think it's Psychology. She signed back to her. Plus Blake asked if she could take the kids to her first class of the day so she's watching them for if not all but most of the day until one of my siblings or I can be free to take them. She added. Madi grinned as she nodded to Allie's question if Andres was staying on campus. She was excited about that, it had been hard for them to be separated last year so when Blake introduced this solution, she took it happily. Yea, he is! I'm really fucking glad that Blake could have him so he could stay here. It made this transition so much easier. She signed to her before she standed up so she can get dressed. Before she went into her room, she stopped and signed to Bear quickly waiting against her doorway.

Blake has been up since 7 am this morning. After her alarm went off, she pressed snoozed. and slept for another 30 minutes. Technically, she didn't want to be up till about 8 am, but she had two little ones in her apartment that she had to get ready.

Andres and Cassie.

Normally she would be alone, the kids would be back at home with the other siblings who were old enough to handle their business. Plus Blake goes back every weekend to check in and spend time with her family but both of these kids were a special case. Andres was a misfit due to his siblings, two of her favorites, Cesar and Dani was misfits. They had thought to have lost all of their family in a fire but this past fall, they found Madicella and Andres who had also thought to be alone. Andres was still in foster care, and Madi had aged out but their foster family was letting her still call their place home until they found their own. Blake knew she had to do something, to help make sure that the Mosquera's children wouldn't lose each other again. So she went to talk to the foster family and they both agreed that it was best that Andres became Blake's foster kid, and Madi and him moved into the misfit household. Cassie and him really connected as well, and she will do anything for her baby girl.

That includes bringing her to college. It wasn't hard since Andres and Cassie was already being homeschooled due to getting used to the new environment, and the changes. So it wasn't like anything she needed to do, just needed to ask for permission which was granted to her. Now she was trying to find her daughter, whom she had adopted this past winter after making sure that she was hidden from her family. She checked her room, and it was gone so next room she was going to be checking Andres's room next, which was correct. She quickly took a photo of them cuddling, Andres and Cassie had a bond that amazed Blake. That boy would do anything for her princess. She sent it to the group chat, and then softly shook Andres to wake him up once he was up, she nodded to Cassie.

He softly woke her up, and Blake picked her up, carrying her to her room. "Baby, did you get scared? You should have come got me. " She told her softly as she starts getting her dressed. Once she knew that Cassie was good to go, she went to help Andres.

"Thank you for taking care of the princess last night, prince." All he did was smile wide and nodded as she helped him get dressed.

ending of blake's/start of andres

Andres got dressed with the help of Blake. He waited for Cassie and once she was beside him, they went to the kitchen. Blake made them breakfast and served them as she went to go get dressed. He looked at his princess who was eating. "Remember to ask Blakey if we can sleep over big brother and sister's room?" He told her softly as Blake came back into the room and ate breakfast herself. She hurried the children out as it was close for her to go set up class. They walked quickly to the classroom, he made sure to keep a hold of Cassie's hand and Blake's so they wouldn't get separated. Once they had reached the classroom. Blake moved two desk by her lecture stand, and set up their school laptops and their headphones. She told them to get started on school, while she works on making sure her classroom is right.

"Come on, princess. I'm pretty sure Cece's the first class here so we get to see him soon!"

My, how Felipe could get lost in his darling Penelope’s eyes. “And you stole mine from the moment you smiled at me,” he pronounced, his smile growing goofy as he recalled the bygone days of their young adult years. The years when he’d nonstop serenaded her just to watch her dance, back when the only music he truly cared about was that which made his lovely Penelope smile. That was still somewhat true, even today, though now at least some of his songs were dedicated to his children, his three angels. But now was not the time for sad thoughts.

He chuckled, smitten with his wife’s kindness. “You could never take advantage of my heart, mi vida! After all, you stole it long ago and still haven’t given it back!” he teased, catching the air kiss she blew his way, pretending to fumble it before he slipped it into his pocket. It was the small things, he was always reminding himself. He must always keep his wife smiling, for nothing made him happier. And humor was just the way to do it, 90% of the time. He remembered telling his older son that when he’d been a child. Even all these years later, it still rang true.

A gentleness came over his face as he seemed to break her out of a reverie. He watched her approach the sink to wash her dishes, the way she removed her rings carefully before doing so. The only ring she did not remove was their wedding ring. It had been so long since the ceremony when he’d pledged his love to his darling forever, and the ring looked worn, but well-loved. She was always wearing it proudly—it made his heart swell to know just how precious the symbol of their union was to her. Grabbing the wipes, he left his plate on the pile of dishes with a kiss to her cheek, cleaning the table with the expertise of someone who had been doing so for years of marriage. He made a game of it with himself, and when Danitza and Cesar had grown tall enough to help, the three of them had raced to clean their section of table fastest. Even now, he whistled as he worked, caught up in the splendor of memory.

Tossing the wipes in the garbage can, he set his hands on his hips and made a humming sound of thought. “To answer your question, mi amor, I’d say walnut. It brings out the color of your gorgeous eyes.” He gave her one of his wide, lovestruck smiles that was never far from his face before continuing, “Let us set off in search of the perfect furniture to decorate our new home!”

Taking his wife’s hand, he led the way out of the apartment, securely locking the door behind him before heading to the front door of the building. “If it gets chilly, you can always use my arms as a jacket,” he cooed, noticing the scarf she had grabbed. “My heart beats purely to keep the love of my life warm and safe!”

He was sure to spout at least fifty more compliments and proclamations of love on their way to the store. Felipe knew nothing else when it came to Penelope.

oliver, chess, & noemi (text) ; cesar, josefina

Dani pouted sympathetically as Oliver let Chess scamper off. She certainly stole the kitty enough for him to get used to her “disappearances”—but did she feel bad about it? Not really. It was nice to have a buddy to cuddle with. At Blake’s, she had Noemi or Cassie usually crawling into her bed to cuddle her, but she was alone here at school. And she was not about to crawl into Oliver’s bed and demand comfort. That would be embarrassing! Surely it crossed a line of some sort… so Chess was the closest thing she had. Plus, unlike her mean younger brother, Chess actually liked her cuddles! So, yes, she would continue stealing the cat on nights she needed comfort or someone to stave off the nightmares. Thankfully, even with his teasing, Oliver didn’t seem to mind very much.

Her mouth was full of food when Oliver shot a grin and compliment her way. She could only smile awkwardly back, swallowing her bite of pancake and washing it down with lemonade. It warmed her heart that he liked her cooking, though she certainly couldn’t boast the skills her Tía Josefina had had. Cooking had been something she’d adopted naturally when she’d been taking care of Cesar alone, and later with Blake, it had just been easier to learn to cook so that all the mouths were fed whenever their guardian was away. It wasn’t much, but… the compliment helped. Any compliment from Oliver did, really, especially considering she wasn’t going to give them to herself.

His serious voice startled her, but not in a scary way. Instead, it made her eyes meet his, something she didn’t tend to do, with anyone. Even as he was reassuring her that he didn’t mind, that all she had to do was ask, the dark voice in her head was rearing its ugly head, leftover from days when asking for anything was burdensome. Because she wasn’t the perfect one. She had no right to ask anything of anyone because she, the eldest cousin, could never measure up.

With one blink, she dismissed those thoughts, packing them in a box to be examined or cried over later. A blush snuck onto her cheeks, and she bit her lip and looked down at her plate, sipping her lemonade awkwardly again. “Thank you, Ollie. Um.” She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, lifting her eyes to his again. “I hope you know the same is true of me, too. I’ll always have time for you as well.” Dani sorely hoped the blush in her cheeks wasn’t as blazing as she thought it was. Now was not the time to get lightheaded! Not on the first day of classes!

Class! Dani checked her phone again, her brain registering Noemi’s answer text but otherwise not finding the energy to respond—note to self: stop by Cesar’s room after class and check on Noe—and realized it was time to get going. She stood quickly and in a flurry took her dishes to the sink to be taken care of later. “Speaking of class, my first one starts in fifteen minutes! Um, we should probably get going, if that’s okay?”

Rushing to her room, Dani grabbed her messenger bag—already packed with the things she needed for her first couple classes, thank goodness—and emerged back into the common area. Chess was wandering around, and she bent down to bid her a quick goodbye. At the door, she checked to make sure she had everything, finding with some relief that she hadn’t forgotten anything. “Ready whenever you are?” she said, glancing over at Oliver as she opened the door. She certainly didn’t want to rush him, but she also didn’t want to be late for her first class of her last semester.

And, if he was okay with it, the first of many mornings of him walking her to class. That thought, even more than his compliments, warmed her heart.

Cesar narrowed his eyes. Her smile may have been bright, but Noemi was acting mighty suspicious. He was used to the evasive treatment from his sister—at least he understood it when it came from her, and he knew how to handle it—but it hurt when it came from his best friend. A part of him wondered if somehow he’d done something wrong that made her not trust him, though he knew rationally that probably wasn’t the case. Right? Right. Right? God, why were girls so hard to figure out?

This was one of those days when he missed his father the most. Even though his advice was more often than not kind of stupid. It was better than nothing.

“Noe, you know as well as I do that I’m going to worry, whether you like it or not.” His arms tightened around her, his jaw clenching as he remembered the night of… the night he nearly lost his sister forever. Ever since then, he hadn’t stopped worrying. About any of the women in his life. It was his job to look after them, to make sure they were okay, even when they weren’t telling the truth about it. Even when Dani clutched as his shirt, telling him she might never be okay, he was determined to make sure she was. Dani, Noe, Madi, and Cassie. He was going to make them happy, dammit. But not if they couldn’t tell him the truth. “You don’t have to tell me right now, but I’m going to keep worrying until you tell me what’s going on.”

He sighed. “Well, as long as Andres and Cassie are good during the class. I don’t see why they wouldn’t be, but I hope Blake know what’s she doing.” And I hope she doesn’t embarrass my ass on the first day. At this point, Cesar wouldn’t put anything past the woman who had taken him and Dani off the streets. Still, he could dream that maybe he’d go a semester without her reminding everyone that despite his attitude, he had a huge man-crush on Márquez. Ugh, but who wouldn’t? (Many people. The answer was many people.)

Suddenly Noemi had her back against his chest. When had that happened? Cesar could swear girls were like ninjas sometimes. His hands stayed firmly around his waist as she shot off a text to his sister—who didn’t respond, probably being a good girl and heading to class. As he waited, not wanting to be rude and interrupt, he started playing with her hair. It felt natural to do so, and it wasn’t like she hated it. What? Didn’t everyone do that with their best friends?

For right now, at least, he might not be getting through to Noemi. That was okay. He’d get her later, with Dani’s help. Danitza Mosquera had a scary way of making you want to confess the things you were holding close to your chest. He had a sneaking suspicion she’d inherited the ability from their mother—he’d never been able to lie to her growing up.

With a sigh, Cesar nodded. “Fine, Noe. That’s fine. But I still expect answers at some point!” He grabbed his bag from his room, checking that he had all his books—Dani really was rubbing off on him—before rejoining Noemi in the common area. At her question, he playfully rolled his eyes and smirked. “Yeah, yeah, who was the one who barged in here and held me up?” He kept chuckling to himself as he locked the door behind him, hoping his new roommate remembered her key, and started off toward his class, keeping hold of Noemi’s hand the whole way.

What? She clearly needed it. And that was the only reason. Definitely.

More than a lot of things, Josefina loved seeing the blush upon Tomás’s face. It was so innocent and sweet, and even after twenty plus years of marriage and three children, it made her feel so young. “And I feel the same about my time with you, mi amor.”

Mornings like these with her husband always felt like a fairy tale dream come true. Breakfast with him, the sweet compliments he gave her, the handholding and kisses… it was everything she had hoped for herself growing up. Everything else faded away when she focused on the here and now with Tomás. She calmly ate her breakfast, smiling in amusement at her husband’s reaction. He treated every meal like it was a five-course meal she’d prepared from scratch. Not that she was going to turn down the extra bit of sweetness from him. “Thank you, my darling. It's made with love, always.”

Josefina was still eating when Tomás went back into the bedroom, leaving her with a kiss and a hug. She practically sank into his arms, sighing contentedly. Her work kept her on her feet constantly, and she adored the moments when she could just let her limbs turn into jelly in his embrace. It reminded her that she was human, she no longer had magical powers, she didn’t need to push herself—not like she had back home.

Even with the embrace, naturally he couldn’t leave her without one last sentiment. With a wide smile that she couldn’t fight back, Josefina blew him a kiss before gathering up the dishes to wash. The task was calming, as was the humming she’d taken up since they’d moved here. Her chore was done in no time, and with one last glance around the kitchen, she started getting ready to head out with her husband.

There wasn’t much need for a coat, but she definitely didn’t need the apron (oops!), so she removed that and threw on a sweater anyway. She’d gotten used to preparing just in case back home, what with the nature of her sister’s power. It had always made life a little more surprising, that sister of hers. Josefina could still hear her laughter if she thought hard enough.

She grabbed her purse and smiled when it was time to leave. “I don’t know if I’ve ever gone furniture shopping,” she gushed to Tomás, a little blush coming upon her face. “I’m not sure what to look for. I know some chairs would be nice, but how do you know what wood to get? Do we need a sofa? Do you have any opinions?” Josefina smiled up at her husband, taking his hand. “I’m really glad we’re doing this, Tomás. I miss spending time with you like this.”

Ally widened her eyes, her lip wobbling in mock sadness. “Don’t take my Oreos away! Do you realize how many assignments will come in late without them? I rely on them to fuel my fast typing skills!” Though she was protesting, she couldn’t help a grin. It was cute when Ria was so worried about her health like this.

Then there was the smile that came on her face when Madi kissed her cheek. Her best friend may have been in total denial—it was so obvious that Madi liked her—but it was cute to watch her stumble her way through her feelings like this. Still, if she didn’t hurry her ass up, she was just going to have to take her face in her hands and plant one on her.

As she was drying the dishes, she watched Madi’s hands and face. Thank goodness she also had a class; she wouldn’t be leaving Ria alone here. “Oh, they’re going to class? Sounds like fun, and it’s free education for them!” She chuckled, though she knew the kids would probably be occupied in another sense; a college literature class was probably not going to suit their active imaginations.

“I’m happy for you both,” she told Madi with a smile. “It’s better for you two to be close to each other. But I will admit, I’m jealous I might get less attention from my darling Ria if Andres is close by.” Ally didn’t mean it, of course. She knew how important the younger cousin was to her friend—she’d practically raised him, so of course they were attached! It was natural. If she’d had a sibling growing up, or if she’d actually gotten to meet her cousin before her disappearance, she probably would have felt very similarly to Madi. So yeah. She got it. There was no jealousy involved.

Well, maybe a twinge. Just a teensy one.

“I do have class, but it’s close to Psych, so I can walk you there, Ria, no worries.” Ally dried her hands on her jeans and popped into her room to grab her backpack. “Buuuuut we need to head out soon if we want to get to both our classes on time. You have brains to analyze, and I have canvases to ruin.” With a wink, she added, “And the faster you get to class, the faster you get to see the little munchkin.”

Putting her hand on the door handle, she raised her eyebrows at her roommate-slash-best-friend. “Fun awaits! Or it would be fun, if it wasn’t class! But we’re paying to go here, so we might as well go!”

Thinking Out Loud

Felipe never failed to make her heart flutter. Ever since they met almost thirty years ago, he never failed to do so or sweep her off her feet no matter how many obstacles loved to grace their relationship and marriage to begin with. It was no secret that Penelope had a rather difficult character and personality to deal with. Only a select few managed to tame her and that was her beloved husband before her, Felipe and her late eldest son, Cesar. The boys in her life had a habit to extinguish the flame that is Penelope for the sake of all.

Looking back in those honeyed eyes she could spend eternity,
"Looks like I am guilty of a crime then, just as you are."
Penelope managed to master a smile for the first time in a while.
"I committed a double crime, hmm I never struck myself as quite the felon. Look what you did to me,"
she couldn't help but gasp and hummed happily as he fought to place it in his pocket instead. Motioning towards him, she leaned in and placed a soft kiss on his lips and grinned,
"That kiss was meant to land there mi corazon. Not in your pocket,"
she proceeded before laughing to herself at his silliness. Felipe always managed. She could have been furious with him and still manage to fight a chuckle at his remarks and actions. Oo why he made it so hard to be mad at him was unknown. Then again, he was her soul mate, her other half. He knew her like she was the back of his hand.

She simply wished their beloved angels in heaven could have gotten the chance to live, fall in love and have their own lives together. Pen's wish was to become a grandmother. Especially to change the legacies that her own mother pressed on her children and nieces. It was simply not on. However, that was something that shall sadly remain exactly that. A wish.

Proceeding to thoroughly rinse the dishes she had her own little mental checklist; wipe, rinse, soap and rinse again. It didn't take her a deal amount of time. Washing dished for two was different than five. She often found herself tearing over the sink but then recoils after putting on her rings again and seeing her wedding ring. Her life. His stolen kiss often brings her back to the here and now which she has slowly accustomed to. As she finished she turned and leaned against the counter she watched in awe as Felipe whistled as he cleaned the table. All she could see was Dani on his left and Cesar opposite her rushing to make their section sparkle. Dani would always raise her hands and jump up finishing first to celebrate whilst Cesar always made a sour face and taunts her and often accused her of cheating as the four of them end up laughing till they awaited Penelope's judgement for the verdict.

As he took her hand in his, she hummed in agreement,
"Mmm walnut does sound ever so beautiful. It fits well with the magnolia paint on our walls for sure."

Pen returned his smile with one of her own as he set the scenario for the mission of acquiring and ordering their ideal furniture. It was the next step to their new normal. She couldn't bare any more children so having a home that reminded her of a family was the close second they could both manage together.
"Ah yes, I could not agree more. To our new home!"
she followed his lead out of the apartment and down to the front door after double checking the door was locked. It was not that she did not trust Felipe, she did but her mind always wanted constant physical reassurance and testing herself to put her mind at ease.

"O-ho, I would prefer nothing better than your arms to keep me safe and warm as always,"
placing the scarf around her neck and tying it into a bow.
"You never cease to make me swoon my darling Felipe. No matter how old and frail we get! You always keep me young at heart."
As they headed towards their car, she awaited her husband, reciting their plan of action for the rest of the day. All one would hear from her lips were these words: Furniture store, Work, Dinner, Home on a loop of three for assurance.

Who Says

"Yes, ma'am. Dance so early Monday morning is either going to be the greatest wake-up call or the bane of my existence. I'm calling it now..."
she couldn't help but laugh at that statement instead of crying internally. Dancing was a tradition and a great hobby back in the Mosquera household. The reason she picked it was to try to remember them. She can still picture how her aunt Penelope and Dani used to dance and twirl together across the Casita's courtyard to the beat of her uncle's music like it had never been done. Isobel used to simply adore swaying from side to side as she let her precious raining carnations and orchids fall around them as they danced.

Isobel bit her lower lip in thought,
"Hmm potentially, I am not sure yet how these Departments work Luci. I would agree with your statement though. I hope. I know my majors are somewhere here as well being fashion design and photography. I hope,"
she crossed both her fingers in hopes the twins were both correct in their statements. As she followed her agreement, with their arms still looped they made it to the rather crowded student quad.

Following after was Isobel's sigh of defeat. Isobel was not the sharpest rose in the garden and she could not read maps to save her life. Albeit being an organising freak, a map was her absolute nightmare and the fact she felt useless at it and cannot help Luciana simply irritated her,
"Ah, well. Crap. This is huge! I feel like an ant in the middle of a football pitch..."
Her chocolate brown eyes tried to scan for the dance studio which she managed to land on and so she pinned with one index their current location and with her other index she pinned the dance studio, trying to road map,
"This is probably the simplest thing but the most difficult to decipher. So yeah, figuring this place out for some time is a statement alright. So let's just make this our point for now, ok?"
her sister may have joked but Isobel was rather serious. She didn't suffer from panic attacks much but when she was away from her twin sister (mainly not knowing where the other is), it was like a trigger switch.

Her eyes followed her sister's timetable as she went to reach for her own so they can compare,
"Ay caramba Luci! Is that your timetable? Yeah, no you are taking my overachiever title there,"
she kidded before cross-checking if their time-table links somewhere today. To her relief, she saw an empty block where Luci's free period, "Yay, me too! We can meet up for lunch and do recon after then?"

"Now, next obstacle, getting to class,"
she chuckled nervously as she ran a strand of her fringe behind her ear. However, as if right on cue, they were disturbed by a vibrant-looking female that just introduced herself as Elena together with her brother who was still approaching.

The voice stated, "Nice morn' to you both! You seem new around here! The name is Elena and the guy lagging behind me is my brother, Gabriel. Do you need some assistance in finding your building or classes?"

Isobel was startled a little bit as a yelp escaped, covering her lips,
"Sorry, you kind of startled me there Elena, right? I'm Isobel and this is my twin sister Luciana."
she was still trying to recover from the heart attack to proceed any further.

Isobel looked at Luci to hopefully continue the conversation as to where the Literature Class and Dance Studio were. Time was ticking after all.

Have it All

Elena almost choked on her own laugh as he commented on her tendency to stumble over anything or anyone for that matter,
"I will wear that title with pride, I'll tell ya that!"

Gabriel was right, she needed to come with a warning sign. Elena always opts for bright colours, partially for that reason. Do you know how traffic cones are supposed to attract attention if there is a blockage ahead? Yes, that symbolises the Elena hazard incoming to those that are unfortunate to face her accidents. Frankly, she was mostly found with her brother and her warning sign mostly came in the form of Gabriel Lopez.

A groan escaped her lips as she unwrapped a blueberry-flavoured lollipop and placed it between her lips,
"Hey hey hey, watch the hair-do mister it took me hours to set,"
she exaggerated. Elena was never too fussy by the way she looked so stating she spent time on her hair or anything for that matter was nothing but lies.
"I'm the heathen? Says the one waking up in an ungodly hour just to read a script? Pft, yes, sure. Whatever makes your drum roll,"
she chuckled, punching his left upper arm and rolling herself a bit more forward with her left foot.

"Pft, my snores are the perfect lullaby, shame on you. I was going to say I missed you, butt,"
she huffed.

As they accompanied each other to the student's quad she stepped off her skateboard and halted it with her right foot, moving towards her brother and holding him in front of her,
"While I may dig the dark-eyed, ruffled hair look you got going on, you need to look somewhat decent before you enter and we part ways, aight?"
she laughed out loud as she straightened his opened buttoned shirt and parted his hair a bit so it is tousled proportionally instead of bed head.

Elena may have accompanied her brother to the quad but they were surely to part as she intended to go to her art class. The female had a free period this morning and sitting idle in her dorm was not going to cut it. Funnily enough, her best friend had sent her a weird ass dream she found the inspiration to draw and so it was what she was going to paint and surprise her! Building-sized doughnuts, bloody brilliant.

Upon arranging her brother's appearance to at least be remotely appropriate for the public, she noticed two females conversing in the quad. New faces to say the least. Both of them were rather strikingly beautiful. Sisters? Cousins?

Elena looked back at her brother and gave him a mischievous grin,
"Okay now that you are decent, time to make some new friends..."

Without a second thought, she kicked up her skateboard and held it under her arm to jog towards the couple that seemed to be conversing but also had a lost expression on their faces.
"Nice morn' to you both! You seem new around here! The name is Elena and the guy lagging behind me is my brother, Gabriel. Do you need some assistance in finding your building or classes?"
Elena took a chance by asking but either way, she took on every occasion she could when it came to meeting new people. Her eyes danced from the long-haired caramel-skinned female to the short-haired porcelain-skinned one. She was breathtaking. Her eyes fell onto her and offered her a rather friendly smile. The lollipop stick was to the side so her speaking was rather lisped but usually able to comprehend nonetheless.

She just hoped her brother was indeed behind her. Elena was a bit more impulsive in this sibling relationship and this is a rather good example.

Papercut

Ever since she was released from the hospital for the second time, the medication was actually helping her not hallucinate no longer. Whenever she remembered to take it that was. Ever since she was reunited with her best friend it was rather easier as she either finds the pill by her coffee or he would send her a quick reminder to take them. As much as she disliked them, they helped. They kept the bad men away. Much like how she kept Santi's ghosts away. What she couldn't understand is why didn't the ringing stop (or at least briefly stopped).

How come everything else was silent but the faint beeps and ringing were constant?

She tried not to get so agitated. Valentina was not one that was known for her calmness despite being one of the most patient souls on the planet. Her schizophrenia was a real trigger for her agitation. Trying to let her focus remain on her closest friend, she tried to let everything fade into the background as always. Santiago was her anchor. Unlike her family, he stayed with her, even if it was for a few years after they reunited once they were both out of their confinement. Solitude did not do wonders on the pair so when they reunited they both were a bit shifty. It took a while for Valentina to adjust but as she was settling down, she was discovered, her identity uncovered, and was taken back to the mental hospital to resume her treatment.

It wasn't till the flight to San Jose that she realized she did not have to go through this alone. Maybe it was fate, or what you call it that she bumped into him and the girls, all hoping for a fresh start. A new chapter.

Enjoying her last sip of coffee she down it like it was an expresso shot, letting a satisfied sound as she did.
"The extra room next to mine already has the beds so we would definitely need to get sheets, curtains - a wardrobe for Isobel for sure and also maybe a nice desk for Luisa to work on when she does her writing, an armchair maybe?"
she mused under her breath, thinking very well about what the girls would enjoy having by their hobbies. Knowing Isobel and her love for fashion design, she would love a wardrobe to store all her creations. The dorms might not have the optimal storage space. As for Luciana, she enjoyed writing and reading, so a quiet armchair and maybe a lamp would set the scene,
"A tall standing lamp maybe..."

Although she may not show it, Valentina really adores the girls and she hoped they could give her a chance.

Looking around the empty area that was supposedly the living room, here eyes darted around as he spoke in the background,
"I know we may not have much to spend but how about we get some wooden pallets and make a DIY sofa bed so that at least we have an extra bedding in case we in fact are all here,"

As she noticed him standing to get his mug, she picked up that he wanted to get a move on most probably.
"Yes, yes. We should get going otherwise it either no parking or a flood. Both of which I am not looking forward to,"
following in his footsteps and placing the mug in the sink, taking a mental note to wash them later.

Taking her leather jacket, she shrugged it on and headed towards the front door,
"Furniture first, groceries later, right?"

Valentina was hearing the ringing getting louder in random spurts. For this reason, she was never certified healthy to drive and earn her license... thankfully. She waited for her companion to follow besuited and get their errands running so they can get back inside as soon as possible. The sun was already scorching against her leather jacket, this was really not a good dressing choice.

Butterfly Fly Away

One sheep... Two sheep... Three sheep.... Fo ---.

That was all the sheep she could manage to count before drifting off to sleep in the little arms of her prince. It was a couple hours but at least they were a peaceful and restful couple of hours. Cassandra had spent her evening cuddled up to herself shivering until she managed to wait for early morning and make a run for it.

She knew they had to wake up soon but it was worth it.

Cassandra was excited to be attending this huge building where her beloved adoptive family attended their university. As much as Cassandra has gathered it was where Cece and Dede go to learn the subjects they love most. Even Madi and Nono went here whenever they were not back home in the Misfit hideout. She had always missed them when they went day after day, it always felt so empty if it wasn't for Andres by her side. Summer was the best time because everyone was all together!

This year it was different. Cassie was here with her mama and her prince on this new adventure. Whilst she of course was not a student, it is established that Cass is one curious tiny bug and tagging along her mother's footsteps and seeing what they do when they were not home.

Feeling a shuffle in the movement behind her, she could hear a warm voice. The voice of her Mama. Her blue-grey eyes slowly batted open, still hooded from the sleep she had finally gotten. From the arms of her prince, she felt herself elevated into her mother's arms to which Cassie instinctively laid her head on her chest, hearing the comforting beat of her heart, letting a hand cover her sleepy face. A soft moan escaped as she nodded,
"Monsters Mama. It was dark... to Mama's room,"
she pouted.

As she was placed down on her bed, Blake started to dress her princess with one of her favourite outfits; light blue high-waisted shorts with butterflies, a white tank top with a big blue and black butterfly in the middle of her chest, paired with white converse before lowering her down. Cassandra ran across the room to sit on her chair by the small dresser as she slid two light blue bows to her,
"Half up, half down mama, please!"

With a giggle, she hummed happily at the feeling of her hair being brushed as her mother clipped the bows to lift a few strands of ginger hair away from her face on each side. Looking at herself in the mirror, she smiled and looked up at her,
"Thank you Ma!"
As placed a soft kiss on Blake's cheek, she returned to brushing a few strands from the ends of her hair as Blake exited the room. Taking a small perfume bottle she was gifted, she sprayed two puffs ever so sophisticatedly as the smell of bubblegum filled the room.

Cassandra stood up and twirled in front of the mirror before hopping her way towards the kitchen where she knew she was to reunite with Blake and Andres for a quick breakfast before they started their day. The smell of scrambled eggs filled the kitchen as she ran to sit on the chair on her knees she saw the eggs with ketchup drizzled on top. Just how she loved it. Taking a fork in her hand, she let out a loud yum before happily munching on her breakfast as Andres accompanied her she smiled at him,
"Good Morning, Andy!"

As he reminded her of the sleepover question she nodded in agreement,
"Do you think she will let us sleep with CeCe and DeDe?"
she hummed before she felt Blake's presence enter the room and sit by them to finish breakfast.
"Mama, me and Andy were thinking if we could sleep with big brother and sister tonight? Would it be possible? Pleeeeaseee?"
Cass batted her eyes with her famous pout that made the ideal puppy-eyed look before they were rushed outside as Mama had to work. She hoped Blake would say yes, especially since she rushed them both out to avoid being late.

As the pair motioned outside of the apartment, Cassie's feet felt like cement. Looking up at the tall and broad building and the other mini versions surrounding the middle one was a bit overwhelming. Unknowingly she clutched Andres' hand. Cassandra was already being homeschooled on the very basics in order to cover what was lost due to her years outside. She did all of that from the comfort of their home but learning... on this scale? Boy was it terrifying upon glance. She didn't even let them go once.

Venturing to the lecture classroom, it was nothing close to what the young girl is used to. It was so big. Everything was so big. It was Andy's voice that brought her back to the surface as she noticed he was nudging her towards their desks. A weak smile was shed as she approached him and sat down by the desk that Blake' set up, opening up the laptop and headphones so they can watch some videos about the language rather than the literature which was the class Blake was going to teach now. Cass hated being the centre of attention and being seated by the teacher's desk was the exact opposite. Wearing her headphones she looked back at Andy,
"CeCe? I hope so. I missed them all..."
she muttered under her breath. Oh what she would give to have a big hug from Dani or jump on Cece's back to tug his hair, she always felt elevated on him as he was rather tall. They may have been Andres' biological siblings but to Cassie, they were her siblings as well, her saviours. She was joined to their hip ever since they found her alone in that alley.

As Val began listing things they would probably need to finish furnishing both their apartments, Santiago nodded along, grabbing his shoes. Everything sounded good. They’d need bedding, chairs, lights, maybe when the girls came out they could go out again to get them more personalized decorations.

Yeah, that sounded like a good plan to him. He wanted them to feel at home with him. He knew he was a sore replacement for their real parents, but…if they were all each other had left, he wanted to make the most of it. He’d give them the world if he could. But all he had…was himself.

Like he was some great prize.

He sighed, shrugging his jacket on and making sure he had his keys and wallet. Making his way to the door, he followed his best friend out of the apartment, closing and locking the door behind them.

“Yeah, furniture then groceries.” he agreed, leading the way down the hall and towards the elevator. Santiago really needed to remind himself that things weren’t as bad as they used to be. There wasn’t always something bad right around the corner, despite what his past experiences may say. He’d had a few good surprises recently, and he needed to keep focusing on the positives.

Easier said than done, however.

As much as he wanted to put everything behind him, and he could admit that he was doing better, he was still haunted by the ghosts of the past. He chanced a glance at Val beside them, and he couldn’t help the small bit of warmth that filled his chest. Neither of them were perfect and he was just glad that they could be imperfect together.

Reaching the ground floor, it didn’t take them long to get to his car and drive to the store. Once he was parked, he just sat in his seat, staring at the fairly empty lot before them. It didn’t seem like a lot of people were there yet, but even still. The sight of even a few cars meant there were a few people around.

“Ready?” he asked. He certainly wasn’t.

Gabe couldn’t help but snort at his sister's quips. She thought she was soooo funny, and to be honest, she was at times, but she could also be a bit of a brat. Something that he made sure to let her know, time and time again.

“You can’t live without me, you’d be a wreck.” he smirked, making another go at messing with her hair. He laughed, watching as she messed with his shirt and reached up to mess with his own hair.

When she stepped back, taking a look at the final product, he rolled his eyes, doing a slow spin, arms thrown out wide. “Do I meet your approval?” he joked as he finished his turn, adjusting his bag so it didn’t slip off his shoulder.

He rolled her eyes at her amusement, but he couldn’t help his own building up within him. Elena was bright and full of energy and even when he wanted to be annoyed with her, she managed to make him smile. God, he could never tell her that, she’d never let him live it down. That one, he’d be taking to the grave.

Before he could blink, she was off like a shot, kicking her skateboard up and running up to two newcomers, people he hadn’t seen on campus before. He could see why she wanted to run over and help, they definitely looked lost, but damn it! Why did she have to dart off like that?

“E-elena…! Hang on!” he called after her, trying to run after her, only to fail miserably. He’d been behind for a moment, and because of course the world hated him, he tripped right as was about to catch up to her, falling face first onto the pavement in front of the girls.

Gabe groaned, pushing himself up onto his knees, sitting on his heels. Reaching up to rub at his nose, he looked up, slowly flushing with embarrassment as his gaze connected with the long haired beauty before him.

“Wow…”

It was like his heart was ready to burst. He was thrilled at her words, her understanding that he’d be there if she needed him. Surely that meant something, right? He definitely hoped so at least.

Oliver grinned at her, shoving the last bite of food from his plate into his mouth, because Dani was most definitely right, it was almost time for their first class. He was definitely ready to get a move on, having had this bright conversation to lighten up his day. Getting up to put his dishes in the small sink, he grabbed his bag off the floor, swinging it up onto his shoulders.

“You got it,” he shot her a small smile as he watched her dart off back to her room to grab her bag. He couldn’t help it as his gaze softened as she declared herself ready. “Ah ah, not quite.” he warned.

With a small smirk, he reached out, grabbing the strap of her bag. In a quick motion he lifted it off her shoulder, pulling it down her arm and then sliding it onto his own shoulder.

“Now we’re ready.” he laughed, striding past her and out the door. “Well?” he teased, glancing over his shoulder as he slowed his pace. “You coming? Don’t want to be late on the first day.”

Teasing aside, they really did have to get moving. Dani’s first class was close to his own thankfully, and his started a short fifteen minutes after her own. Thankfully this would allow him to easily keep his promise of being willing to walk her to class every morning. Obviously, he would’ve done it even if they weren’t nearby, but it doesn’t matter in the end.

Oliver would do anything to keep the smile on her face, and if it meant walking her to class every morning, then that’s what he would do.

Simple as that.
