Violet Robbins

The elf remained silent as Meric and the judge talked. As her comrade kept talking, her mood shifted once more from shocked surprise to joy. She was impressed with the trio who had gone off to fight the company; coming up with the final key that broke the case wide open just in the nick of time. Some small part of her said they would have thought of something, but she knew in her heart that she wouldn't have been able to do anything. That feeling, the helplessness reminded her off that day when...

Violet shook her head, determine not think of that wretched memory, especially when everyone was so happy to have the case solved. Luckily, she was saved the task of diverting her thought when Stark cried out his accusation. The only reaction she gave to was a clench of her fists, and a return of Meric's gaze. By this time, she was quite used to that kind of reaction to her fight. It made her sad, but that’s just how things worked in times of rebellion against tyranny. She brushed off his words and waited, listening to Judge and watched the furious ex-guard hauled away.

A sigh of relief passed her lips as he was escorted out, glad that this had come to a happy conclusion. The dark elf waved to Herondale and hugged Dina when the girl came near. That done, she turned to the captain to say "I'm glad we were able to clear your good name. It would have a tragedy to lose a fine person like you to a fallacy of justice." Then, turning to Meric she nodded and said, "I agree. We can't know for sure how far behind us our persuers are, so we'll have to be sure and keep on guard. Also, I agree that we could all use some rest. Its been a long day for all of us." As if to validate her last sentence, Violet let loose a long, expansive yawn.

Later that evening the fellowship gathers at the Ruffled Feathers for a recapitulation of the day's events. The actions of Dina, Violet, Meric, Silverlane and Xenthriss managed to not only prove Captain Raynard's innocence and have him released, but also destroy the Dark Company in Ridge and reveal the knight-commander of the Watch as a traitor that he was. In the meantime, Laurolf only half succeeded in locating the missing members of the Chosen: he found the scholar, Henvei, at the Academy; but not the shadow elf Eltheron whose trail had gone cold in the same place.

Henvei then shared his remarkable discovery with the others, telling them of the underground temple he explored accompanied by professor Dain of the Ridge Academy. He also showed them an artifact acquired from a locked section of the ruin - an ancient sword of unknown origin. Remembering the warning of the Spectral Council relayed by Dina, and that time was pressing, the fellowship decides to leave Ridge the next day at dawn despite the fact that Eltheron is still missing. No one was happy about it, except Xenthriss who didn't seem to care at all, naturally.

Outskirts of Ridge, September 27th, year 3321

------------------------------------------------------------

Dawn was breaking over the city of Ridge. It was considerably colder than the day before, but sunny, with September drawing to an end. The fellowship had just exited the town through the East Gates, on their way toward the deserts of Daskárd. With Tharos Silverlane who decided to join them, they numbered seven people. Xenthriss led the way, eager to leave Ridge behind. Meric followed, exchanging words with Laurolf. Then came Dina and Violet walking in pair, after them Henvei lost in thoughts. Finally, Silverlane marched last.

They walked for less than ten minutes with the city still in clear view when Silverlane's voice rose loud, but calm: "We're being followed." Looking back, everyone could easily spot three figures on horseback riding towards them. They would catch up with the fellowship in a minute or two. The sky was relatively cloudy and there was no wind. The Sun was still hidden beyond the horizon, waiting for its light to pave the way for it.

Dina Ailsa

Dina was looking tired, she did rest well but... There was that notebook that she wanted to ask Henvei about but somehow missed her chance and they were on the road now.... And Eltheron... Dina tried to look indifferent, but just couldn't. Someone who knew her well could just read what's wrong right off her hace.still in her celebration mood. Then Silverlane spoke and Dina wanted to say: "What now?", irritated. Luckyly, she restrained herself and let out only a long sigh.

With the fellowship halted, the riders caught up with them in a minute. As they came to a stop, the Chosen realized they recognize one of them.

"Hello again." said Herondale, dismounting from his horse. "What's the matter? Not happy to see me?"

"More like not expected to see you. This soon, that is." Meric answered.

Herondale smiled and nodded. "There is one final thing left to resolve before you leave. This is..."

"I can speak for myself, Inquisitor." said the second man, right before dismounting. At that time the third figure also dismounted. "I am Reul Tereyn, Lord of Ridge." Not stopping to stare at the surprised faces, he continued. "No need to introduce yourselves. I know who you are. Well, most of you anyway. I know you... Violet Robbins of the Resistance. And Tharos Silverlane, also of the Resistance." He smiled cunningly.

"Commander Robbins," said the third figure, also a human. He was in his fifties, fair-haired, blue-eyed and wearing robes. "We haven't met before, but perhaps you've heard of me by reputation. Cinwick Perwol."

As soon as he properly introduced himself, Violet realized that he was being sarcastic - of course she'd heard of him. Cinwick Perwol was a relatively well-known mage in the Royal Army before the Great War, and afterwards proved a valuable asset for the Resistance. He was one of the people in charge for Resistance's activities in South Hyerald.

"I was here on... official business, and when I heard you were in town I could not pass up on the opportunity to meet you." he said. He looked back at Lord Tereyn and Herondale, and then fixed his gaze on the fellowship and Violet in particular. "The Lord of Ridge and the good Inquisitor both share common interests with us, if you know what I mean." He also had a cunning smile.

Violet had gone for her bow as soon as Tharos had spoken, but relaxed her grip on it when she saw who was doing the following. She was as surprised as anyone when the Inquisitor showed himself. She was even more surprised when the lord of Ridge himself moved forward, she gave a bow of respect. She remained placid as she listened to the men until the third figured moved forward. A small look of surprise crossed her as the mage introduced himself. It wasn't that he was more surprising than the others, but what his presence meant was much, much greater. Regaining her composure, she nodded to him and said "That is good to hear. Since that is the case, I take you have told them about what is to come and what it would do for our cause?"

"Indeed he has." said Lord Tereyn.

The Lord of Ridge was a stout man; well built and tall, with dark brown hair reaching to his shoulders. He was in his fifties but hardly looked the part.

"I know all that I need to know... Commander. King Anglimar Tenith was a good man, rest his soul. We were acquaintances. I did not bow to the usurper Ilhirel, nor I ever will. And the same goes for most of South Hyerald. No respectable man or elf here has any love for the Sorceress. If the Resistance plans to take a final stand, then Ridge is with you - fighting chance or not." He frowned. "It has been three years. I am sick of hiding."

Meric took a step closer and joined the conversation. "There will be nowhere to hide if the Sorceress succeeds in her plans."

Tereyn frowned even more. "If by plans you mean her... preachings of other dimensions and oblivion, I myself don't believe it. It's true that she's a powerful wizard, but that's all there is to it. Of course, her prophets still spread those wild theories around. I chased the last few out of Ridge just last week. But Alicante has become the heart of this new... religion, if you can call it that. Maker help us all."

"It will begin with Ridge, and soon." said Cinwick. "We are making final preparations while we await the order from headquarters. But Commander Robbins..." the man's face took on a puzzled look. "Where are you going? When I learned of your arrival I assumed that you were sent here to coordinate the offensive. Yet you are leaving Ridge, and in a most... shall I say colorful company at that. Little girls and ominous drakkar? This hardly looks like a squad of Resistance soldiers."

Dina glanced at Violet, feeling responsible. It was her fault that she is not working with the Resistance directly at this time. But there is nothing wrong with that, right? Their quest will eventually unite them with the Resistance, if they are lucky enough to survive everything that needs to be done beforehand. After Violet, Dina looked at everyone else. She got so used to her companions that she forgot that they are indeed a strange group.

Violet looked over Tereyn as he spoke so boldly about their common foe. She couldn't help but smile admiringly at the man. She knew first hand just how powerful the witch was, having seen what she could do to a person. Before addressing Cinwick, she bowed and said "Thank you so much for you're support my Lord. I'm glad to see that the presence of that plague of a woman has not doused the flame of freedom in the hearts of the people. People such as yourself lift my spirits."

The dark next turn to the battlemage. She knew full wellwhat the plans were and that they were to start soon. A small part of her regretted that she could not join in. She clear his throat and said in a clear voice, "If things were different, I'd be doing just that. However, I am on mission of great importance for the future of Asgard. My companions may not be the usual stock, but they will be playing a key role in my mission. You have best wishes for your success, something you hardly need me for. Your track record more than shows that you are capable to defeat the witches forces here. I only regret that I will not see the looks on their faces when we achieve our victory."

"Ridge will fall to the Resistance without any trouble, I guarantee, and there's not much real opposition in the region elsewhere," replied Tereyn, "But the real difficulties will begin once the Sorceress learns of what happened, and then reacts."

"And the enemy will react swiftly." said Cinwick. "We will be at war within weeks. If you must go, then be on your way and good luck to you, commander. I'm sure you will soon hear some news regardless of where the road might take you. You're a colorful fellowship, like I said." the wizard smiled. "Maker smile upon all of you."

"To you as well." replied Meric with a solemn expression. "Good luck."

With that they said their goodbyes and parted. Cinwick, Herondale and Lord Tereyn rode off back to Ridge, while the fellowship marched on towards their next destination - the deserts of Daskárd.
