Plot: Hundreds of years ago, in the early middle ages of the world of Ataras, the demons waged war against the other sentient races. Under heavy losses on both sides, the demons lost and the other sentient races came out on top. To make sure they would never be a threat to the rest of the world again, the demons were cursed, greatly reducing their reproduction ability and gradually reducing the qualities that were rather unique to demons such as brute strength/physique, monstrous appearances and red or onyx skin. Only every tenth child would become female due to the curse. Gradually the demons not only became more similar in appearance to humans or elves, but the men lost their bulk and often their masculine traits with the most masculine among the demons becoming pretty boys (bishounen/model like) and the less masculine ones becoming androgynous, appearing almost female (femboyish), rivalling even the looks of the women.

The results of these changes however were catastrophic, as the demons were originally hunters and warriors who would hunt for food alone. Eventually the demons turned to agriculture and hunting in groups. Due to slow adaptation, the demons numbers dwindled, child mortality skyrocketed and it set the civilization back to the bronze ages. Hadn't they changed their ways, they would have devolved to the stone age or even gone extinct. On the demon home island, population has become stable around 15,000 with child mortality still rather high and average life spans only ranging into the 50s (before the curse, demons could become twices as old as humans with average life spans of 140 years). Most demons live in villages of 200 to 600 people with the larges settlement having 750 people.

The other sentient races (humans, elves, demihumans) only know demons from history classes and from tales and believe that they either have become extinct or that the remnants of demonkind interbred with the other races to the point that there are no pure demons anymore. Even if one of the demons were to be spotted in the nations of the other races, then they will likely only be confused for someone from an obscure elven tribe due to their pointed ears and their horns might be mistaken for tribe specific adornments/accessories.

A number of demons have left the island to explore the outside world, but recently only a few have returned. The rest are expected to be deceased on their journies or lost without knowledge of how to return back to the island. The returners however speak of vast cities and infrastructures, of powerful weapons and unknown magics. It gives some of them ideas on how to improve living standards of those on the island and maybe reunify the island, not only infrastructurally but also politically as the island consists of many tribes, most of which are friendly to one another.

There is also a recent phenomenon of some demons stating they had lived previous lives in another world, them often having a special gift or helping their tribes improve their life standards.

Demons: Demons nowadays are tall and rather feminine. They appear similar to humans in physique but have pointed ears like elves and can have horns of varying sizes. In old times, horns determined rank, but nowadays horns don't mean much anymore. When mating, some partners prefer small horns and others large horns. Demon males range from pretty boy to feminine in appearance. Most are tall but some can be petite. Even voice range can range from human masculine to feminine. Demon women tend to be slightly shorter than demon men. For human standards, demon women are quite beautiful. Demons tend to have bright eye colors with blue, red, purple, pink and lime green being the most common. Hair colors can be brown, black, pink, orange blonde, silver, white and purplish. Most demons nowadays are a light tan color but can range from caramel brown to creamy white often with coastal demons being darker in skin color, whereas demons from colder climates such as mountains tend to be lighter. It isn't unusual for feminine demon men to dress in a feminine way.

Tsumz'tral: The island of Tsumz'tral is a large island in the Wild Ocean. The other races rarely come to the Wild Ocean because it is dangerous and weather on the open sea can be unpredictable. On the numerous islands of the Wild Ocean, there still tend to be smaller settlements and trading posts of the other races. Tsumz'tral is generally avoided though as the other races say it is a cursed place that will bring certain death to whoever sets foot on it. Tsumz'tral is a mostly tropical island that takes two weeks to cross on foot (or three days on the back of a riding fox (like a horse sized fox that demons use to travel quickly)). Boats rarely travel to other islands, but when they do, only to neighboring islands to drop off travelling demons who will catch their next boat from a settlement of the other races. Snow is only seen in the highest of mountains on Tsumz'tral. Otherwise the landscape is either flat and forested or hilly. Non-forested plains tend to be in use for farming. The only known desert is shortly before the mountains and is only a long strip that is only a couple kilometers wide.

Fauna: There are numerous dangerous beasts on the island. The usual ones found between villages are dire wolves, monitor lizards and bobcats and are usually easily dealt with. More dangerous beasts such as wyverns, tigers and lesser dragons are found in areas that are rarely traverse by demons and they usually dont attack demons or settlements unless attacked first or unless demons get too close to their breeding grounds. These beasts can only be dealt with in large groups or by skilled magic users. There are also a wide variety of docile creatures on the island such as riding foxes, songbirds, green buffalo and bush kittens.

Villages: Demons live in villages of 200 to 600 people with only one being the exception at 750 people. Nearly each village represents a tribe. Most villages/tribes are friendly to one another. Some villages/tribes have disputes or hostilities, however there hasn't been an actual war in possibly 100 years and disputes are usually carried out in either wrestling matches or competitions. In honesty, most tribes cant afford to kill each other as they cannot replenish their numbers that easily. Villages/tribes usually have an elected chief who acts as an advisor and a judge in tribe matters. Most villages are built in a circular way with usually the center either being a village plaza or gathering house on a hill and the houses are built around the hill. Beyond the houses are usually farms and fields. Villages are also usually built near water sources such as lakes or rivers.

Technology: The demons are in the bronze age, mostly using spears, bows and short swords. Rarely are long blades/greatswords used and when they are, they usually are of simple design. Homes are thatched roof wooden houses, sometimes with mud and clay. Clothing is made of animal skins, fur and plant fibers and tends to be a bit more advanced for the standards. Clothing can be died in black, red, blue and purple. Pure white clothing is usually made from plant fibers. Armor is usually leather, wood or simple bronze plates. Irrigation is unheard of and in dry periods, farmers will carry clay or stone containers full of water to the fields to water them. Magic is limited to simple elemental and healing magic. Common magics used are "tinder" (to start fires), "move water" (to move water from containers), "extinguish" (to extinguish fires), "calm" (to calm stressed animals) and "heal" (to heal simple injuries). Usually only one or two people in a village can use more magic than the standard spells. Roads are usually unpaved paths made of dirt and sand.

Starting point: Village of Zimskand in the hills not far from the eastern coast.

It was a warm day in the village of Zimskand. There was a demon sitting on a stump seemingly lost in thought. The demon appeared to look like a woman with long pink hair, pink eyes and long black curled horns. They wore a red robe and a black choker. This demon was the village wizard named Vei'kuli Mistrose. Despite his appearance and his feminine voice, he was a male demon. Sitting on the stump, Vei'kuli passively watched other demons dig a ditch according to his plans. It was an irrigation project. Since the past year the harvest was rather meager, the village was back to hunting and gathering this year.

Vei'kuli had however learned much during his travels in the cities, including better agricultural practices. Irrigation was only one part. The village was also to learn better tilling methods and eventually breed better variants of their crops to maximize harvest. There was so much to do to improve life on the island. At the same time, Vei'kuli had to research new spells that would be beneficial to the island such as advanced healing spells. Currently, he was only to heal simple, mostly superficial wounds, move water, use basic telekinesis and make fireballs. He had heard that long ago, their ancestors knew great magics that helped subdue the other sentient peoples, but most of these had been long forgotten.

There are many others like Vei'kuli who spent years among the other sentient peoples to study their ways to bring back and benefit demonkind. Some of them are craftsmen, others are thinkers like Vei'kuli. At home, Vei'kuli had drawn up plans for a weapon that would combine and staff and a longer sword in one. He just had to work out the specifics. He considered going deep into a cave and finding crystals to focus magic on and build into the planned weapon. He however needed a skilled craftsman to actually create the weapon. Vei'kuli could help by providing the materials and making a fire hot enough to make the weapon, but the technique and the strength needed to be supplied by another demon. Maybe someday a demon with the necessary skills will come by the village.

Then with an appropriate weapon, Vei'kuli could take on more serious threats on the island such as possible dragons or so.

A little farther away from the working demons, on the grass, sat young medic. Being phisically weak, and overall not very used to phisical work, he didn't really have anything to do there, but he still decided to watch them for a while, just out of sheer curiosity. Observing the scene, the Medic noticed the village wizard not far away from working demons. Silohuette dressed in bright clothes, with pink long hair, would probably be easy to spot, even if he was sitting much farther away. Blas got up picking up his thick dark purple coat, he was sitting on, and slowly went downhill in the peoples direction.

A caravan spots on the edge of the village letting out a must would assume to be a girl at first glance. Taking off a medium-size chest and what appears to be a shield wrapped up in cloth. Tai then gives the driver a small bow to say thank you. The diver tips his hat before going on his way. Tai gave a quick look around before picking up his things and walking off. Going past a small eatery he made sure to take note of it so he could come back later. Seeing the people walking around all busy with their little things made Tai think this will be a great place to set up shop. But he would go look around more for a bit more then find a place to stay.

Blas walked up to the working demons to a certain distance, close enough for the wzard person to hear him, but far enough to not seem too arrogant "Good day, are you from the village nearby?" He hoped that the villagers need a village doctor, and so maybe will let him stay "I am a traveling medic, I wanted to talk to someone who's in charge?" He hoped for a quick answer, since he left his fox in the meadow nearby, and didn't want it to get stolen or walk wander away. He looked at the wizard.

While overseeing the work, Vei'kuli was approached by another demon. He seemed to be from out of town. The tall demon had long dark hair and yellow eyes. His horns were black. The demon introduced himself as a travelling medic and sought someone who had authority there in the village. Vei'kuli answered in his feminine voice: "The village chief is out hunting. But I guess I can be considered second in charge since I have been assigned chief of village development. I am Vei'kuli Mistrose, village wizard and eldest son of Enkand and Xikuli Mistrose. How can I help you? Are you another traveller seeking to ask me about knowledge I acquired in the cities or do you have business with the village chief?" Vei'kuli's demeanor was rather formal and professional at the moment. He showed a rather neutral expression and mature composure.

"I'd say, the latter one, unless you can tell me ,if your village is in need of a good medic" The sentence sounded less arrogant in his head. Even tough he has been on his own for quite a while, Blas still had some trouble comunicating with other demons, and being nice about it "But I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Blas Uv'ger, I'm looking for a place from which it'd be easy to access multiple demon settlements. Your village seems to be relatievely close to some other villages, and the roads are quite safe." At this point he was just hoping he didn't say too much.

Seeing how the village was doing fairly well Tai thought it would be best to try to get more information on the place. After looking for a while he came upon a place with a group of busy demons. Walking up to them he asked them who is in charge as nicely as possible. Putting down his luggage and shield-shaped cloth."Also, my name is Van nice to meet you."

(Sorry for delayed reply, was busy yesterday.)

The demon introduced himself as Blas Uv'ger and stated that he was a medic. Blas had asked if the village needed one and said that the location of the village was convenient in reaching the other villages. "Pleased to meet you, Blas. Well, yes, we could always use a helping hand and specialists. Currently we are trying to improve basic infrastructure such as an aqueduct for irrigation and water supply since the wells tend to dry up in the summer and the walks to the river are inconvenient. We also plan on improving the roads from the cleared vegetation and occasional dirt road to a wider, more solid road and maybe if we can produce enough stone in quarries we could pave the roads to the other villages. There are many ideas but usually the issue lies in lack of resources and manpower, so we must first acquire the means first." Vei'kuli said.

Another demon came and greeted them. He introduced himself as Van and asked who was in charge. "Hello. Please to meet you Van. I am Vei'kuli Mistrose, village wizard and at least the one in charge of improving the village infrastructure. I am sort of the second in charge of the village or let's say, there are a couple demons who are second in charge. All are assigned to a specific field of expertise. One is responsible for fairly solving disputes. One is responsible for ensuring that everyone gets a fair share of food. One is supposed to check whether everyone is healthy. And the one is to make sure the village is defended from dangerous wildlife. I might have taken a larger piece of responsibility by having to improve the village and eventually bring the island up to similar standards and technology as the cities, maybe even surpass the dirty humans and elves." Vei'kuli answered.

After the wizard finished talking, Blas sighed quietly "well, is there any place where I could wait for your chief? I wouldn't want to trouble anyone, and wander around aimlessely around the Village" he turned his eyes towards workers, then towards the single traveler that stood beside him "and where could I leave my fox for the time being?" He turned his gaze away from the man, and towards the wizard. He didn''t want to come off as hostile, or impatient. He was not sure if the Village would need his help in other things than medicine. The wizard man mentioned they need workers? He probably couldn't help them phisically.

After hearing what the demon know as Vei'kuli Mistrose who is the right-hand man of the village had to say and thinking over it a bit. Van decided to into more detail about himself. "Alright, I'm a blacksmith you give me the details for something I can make it the more details the better. If it's not too much I would like to set up shop here." Once he was done with his little intro he gave a small wave to the other demon. Tai wanted to see what all types of demons would make this place home. "Anywho I don't mind lending a hand or two until I'm fully set up with my place . That is if you will have me."

The demon named Blas asked where he could wait for the chief and put his fox. "Go to the village hall. It is the large thatched roof building in the center of the village. The chief will eventually come by. She's usually on a walk around this hour but will stop by the village hall. Your fox you can leave at the stables near the village hall. There it will be in good hands." Vei'kuli said to Blas.

The demon named Van introduced himself as a blacksmith and asked whether anything could be made and if he could set up shop in the village. Vei'kuli then answered: "We can grant you a temporary stall in the village marketplace. You will also be granted some land to build a home on. In turn, we hope you will contribute to the progress of the village and eventually of the island. I have a couple things for a capable blacksmith to make. On a matter for the village, we need parts for a wind powered mill as hand milling is arduous and produces less. On a personal matter, I'd need a blacksmith to cooperate with me on making a magical longsword. I'd need you to do the smithing while I do the enchanting. I heard of a metal called steel in the cities. They say you make it by removing impurities from iron and adding some carbon. It is supposed to be a lot more durable than the bronze we use."

He nodded "thank you" and got up and went to get his fox and walk him to the stables. He quickly found the village hall, so he left his fox at the stables and came back to the hall, and sat down inside of it and decided to stay like that for however long he needs. He kind of regreted not askig the wizard how exactly would their chief look like, but oh well it was too late now. He looked down on his shoes. It wasn't thw first village he tried to settle in, there were at least four before this ine, unfortunately he was very unlucky until now, and couldn't convince the people to let him stay, most of them were too untrusting.

Feeling a bit relieved that he can stick around Tai decides to try to get to work as soon as possible."Well, I will do my best to make myself useful here in this place my new friends. Since I will start here where should I start?" Seeing the other new demon walk off with his pet and other things to go see the chief. He hopes the meeting goes well.

Blas thanked Vei'kuli and went to the stables before then heading to the village hall. After a couple minutes, the village chief, an old female demon approached the village hall and turned to Blas. "Ah, a new face. You must be looking for work. Have you talked to the wizard or the hunter yet? They always have things for newcomers to do." After a brief pause, the old demon said: "Pardon me. I forgot to introduce myself. I am Afea, the village chief. I am almost too old for the job but I still hold out somehow."

Meanwhile back at Vei'kuli, Van had offered his skills and accepted the job from Vei'kuli. "Well before you get to work, I guess I have to show you to a plot of land for your future home and current smithing facilities. I can show you the smithing facilities first since they are on the way to the plot." Vei'kuli said and led Van down a path. After a minute they came to a building where two smiths were working. "Here you can work on jobs given to you. Currently, most things made are shovels and hoes, but occasionally you will be asked to make weapons or more complex tools." Vei'kuli said. The other two smiths waved to Van. Vei'kuli then led Van to an empty plot on the outskirts of the village. It was plentiful in space. Enough for a house for living and a large home garden. "Here you can build your home. I can offer you a bed until you get a home build though."

He looked up at the woman "I am Blas Uv'ger, I'm a doctor actually, and I am looking for a village to settle in, and I wanted to talk to someone about joining your commiunity and living here" He stood up and bowed his head slightly "Also, I did talk to your wizard, he was the one who directed me here"

Van eagerly followed Vei'kuli as he led him to the workshop Seeing the other two smiths kind of made him feel better knowing he would have some sort of help. He took a quick look around the place and gave his greetings to his fellow smith. Hello, I am Tai-Fin Van. Most people just call me Van it will be a pleasure to work with you. After that Vei'kuli took him to where he will be staying. While he is here."Not bad I can do a lot this place."Walking around the plot of land he looked back at Vei'kuli." I think I'll take you up on that offer. You will not be disappointed with letting me stay here. " Messing with the ground a little bit before standing back up. Now knowing the two main places of interest to him. "Alright, let's get this show on the road Vei'kuli. " Holding out his hand for a shake.

"I am slowly becoming too old to be village chief. That is why I divided my job up into those of my seconds in command. The wizard has enough power in the community to give you a place to stay and a place in our community. We accept anyone as long as they do their part." The village chief lady said. "Demons who have experience in healing are welcome. Go speak to the wizard Vei'kuli and he will get you acquainted and a plot of land to build a home on."

After showing Van his plot of land, Vei'kuli said: "Why don't you come over to my place and I can show you the drawings for the weapon I thought of? By the way, you can just call me Vei or Veiku. Most people here call me one of the two. Only outsiders address me as wizard or something like young lord Mistrose." He then led Van to his home, which was a hut close to the center of the village. It had a thatched roof. Inside it was just a big room with a fireplace, bed and a mess of utensils. In the left center was a table with three chairs. "Care for some tea?" Vei'kuli asked Van.
