Name:

Remy Lemont

Codename ((optional)):

His stage name is Le Magnefique Mystique if that counts for anything

Age:

24

Height:

5'8''

Weight:

149bs

Personality:

Perhaps the most notable feature about Remy is his charm - he's all about the performance he gives and he very rarely comes off stage, even when living his every day life. He makes an effort to give of the strongest "charming rogue" vibe he can. He can usually be found wearing a not quite wicked grin, and is usually at the ready to pull a flower out of the ear of any cute boy or pretty girl who happens to catch his attention (and often comes with a ready supply of quips and general witty repartee for any other person he might be interested who doesn't fit his idea of the type of bottom he likes to go for). He's used to getting what he wants romantically, and his absolute favourite thing is to get someone he's interested in to gasp with wonder and delight at the latest trick he's pulled.

He doesn't always fight fair when it comes to getting what he wants, living very much by the idea that the ends justify the means, so he has no problem lying or cheating to achieve his ends. None of his family is really set at moral north, and he's not an exception to that by any means. While Remy is generally a good guy, that doesn't mean he's one all the time, and that doesn't mean he'll always do the right thing (and just because his intentions aren't bad it doesn't mean his actions are right or in any way considered good).

Remy is a bit of a kleptomaniac. And by "a bit" I mean to say that if he were to be seen by a therapist or a psychologist he'd be clinically diagnosed with the disorder. He can't help himself - if he sees something and thinks for even a short moment that he wants it it's incredibly hard for him to resist just taking it. He mentally cannot stop himself. It's not so much the will to take or the rush of stealing as it is a compulsive behaviour he can't resist due to improper treatment of his undiagnosed disorder. Were he ever to get caught he'd likely be ordered by a court to receive psychiatric help, but because he's a magician he's very good at slight of hand, and his room is full of things he's taken off street vendor's stands and occasionally things he's picked up in stores. Just trinkets, really, he's like a crow in that he likes small shiny objects, so he rarely takes anything larger than the inner area of his palm. He's yet to get caught taking something, and as such he's grown rather cocky about it. He feels like he can take what he wants when he wants it, and he doesn't really feel like that's a bad thing.

Bio ((rap sheet)):

Remy was born and raised in New Orleans, right on the river. The oldest of three, Remy was expected to go into the family business, and to that end was taught from an early age that no wrong was truly wrong as long as it got what was desired in the end. While the lesson stuck, the interest in following in his father's footsteps as a prominent con man and part of a well oiled sting operation crew did not. Remy didn't have the temperament or the patience for the family business, and never took up his father's offer to join up.

While his parents were off travelling the world for the sake of their 'business' Remy was raised by his grandparents, and as such was immersed in the culture of the area from a very early age. From his grandfather, who had been a magician in a travelling show (where, coincidentally, he met his wife and Remy's grandmother, who had been a circus performer at the time) he learned his first few magic tricks and inherited the love for all forms of illusion. Remy thrived off his grandfather's lessons in slight of hand and his grandparents stories about life on the open road, show after show. His grandmother taught him the art of reading palms, tarot and playing cards, and coffee grounds and tea leaves. She also tried to teach him the art of voodoo, as it was integral to the area, but he never had much of a knack for it and ended up only really learning the fake variation taught and sold to tourists who passed by. Both his grandparents instilled in him a love for all things mystical, and when he first learned that true magic wasn't real - or at least wasn't something he had a talent for - he was distraught. He had spent his youngest years with the idea of becoming someone truly adept in magic, and the idea that he would never be able to truly conjure something from nothing was devastating to the young boy. The only thing that comforted him was his ability to fake magic with smoke, mirrors, and very convincing slight of hand. From a very early age he decided that that was what he wanted to do with his life, and he wasn't going to take no for an answer. He learned everything his grandfather had to teach him and practised endlessly, never fully satisfied with his progress. To this day he still works tirelessly at perfecting his already close to flawless slight of hand, determined to someday find the secret to really making something disappear, not just making it look as if it had.

Aside from his rather occult-oriented upbringing Remy was allowed to grow up a wild child on the streets of New Orleans, spoiled by doting grandparents and rarely chastised over anything. With his parents only home rarely (and not particularly interested in instilling a sense of right or wrong in someone who was growing up to know their closest guarded secrets), Remy learned that as long as you didn't get caught for it you weren't doing anything wrong. The idea of punishing Remy for taking something that wasn't his was unheard of in a family where they earned their living in fooling strangers, and his grandparents had done their share of parenting in the past and were more intent on spoiling grandchildren then disciplining them. And so he learned that as long as it made him happy his family would support him in whatever he did, even if what he did wasn't strictly speaking right or good. He never bothered to try and curb the habit of taking whatever he saw fit - his parents did it, why shouldn't he? And besides, he wanted it, that was all that mattered in the end, right? As he grew older the same idea grew on him in regards to people, though to a lesser extent. If he wanted someone to be interested in him and to be with him, he'd go to just about any ends to make it happen. If pretty words didn’t work he could always make a flower or a bracelet or a watch appear for them, and who would be the wiser of the fact that the gift wasn't his to give? Spoil them, flatter them, tell them exactly what they wanted to hear from him even if it wasn't true, if it got him their affections in the end did it matter? No! As the Baker's wife once said, "Everyone tells tiny lies, what matters really is the size […] when the end's in sight you'll realise if the end is right it justifies the [means]", and Remy doesn't see anything wrong with telling a little white lie or two (or three or five or twenty) if it means he'll endear himself to someone he wants to see more of. Besides, if he can get them to truly care for him they won't mind when they find out, right?

As soon as he felt confident and skilled enough to do so he started his own street show performing what magic tricks he knew. Over time his ability has grown, and he's been slowly earning enough to pay for proper equipment for more dramatic tricks, and a proper (if portable) stage which he sets up every day just after noon when everyone is arriving for or just finishing lunch. While he one day dreams of making the big time and being a real magician who could fill a full theatre straight to the back in Vegas or somewhere truly impressive he's happy with where he is. He's doing what he loves and he wouldn't give that up for the world.

Role:

"clearly I provide the dashing good looks, mon ami"

He's the 'front' man - the distraction. The thing you're focusing on while the other hand does the actual magic of making something disappear.

Skills:

Remy specializes in sleight of hand, though he has worked with a number of classic illusion techniques it is undoubtedly finger work that he has the most skill with. This in part comes from his 'sticky fingers' and his tendency to slip things into his pockets which he sometimes argues is just 'extra practice' rather than flat-out thievery.

He is, however, trained in classic illusion techniques such as Illusionism (the vanishing, production, and teleportation of objects - a large part of which is just bigger sleight of hand) and Mentalism (hypnotism, basically, which he's not as good at but can do some variations of).

Basically he's exceptionally good at distraction.

In direct relation to crime jobs specifically, he has his father's training as a con man which is just a differing sort of performance in many ways.

Equipment:

Any little thing he can slip into his pocket, really. He's all about smaller things that form to big ones (his adeptness with filching tiny things means that it's pretty easy for him to have a proper keycard on his person without the owner realizing theirs is missing)

Fatal Flaw:

Pride is definitely an issue with him, he can be a bit overly confident and that definitely runs it's risk. His rampant kleptomania is also sometimes hard to deal with, the compulsion that comes with it isn't usually something he can fight off.

Important Extras:

He is utter rubbish when it comes to escapism - he can't even get out of handcuffs.

Remy comes from a family of con artists. No, he's not one of them (though when he was younger he did help in some jobs), but his brother and younger sister are as well as his father and mother. He had a pretty big falling out with his father 'no dad, I'm giving up on your dream!' style when he refused to take over the 'family business'

Remy's hair is naturally white, not dyed as a result of hypocobalaminemia - or a Vitamin B12 deficiency - which he has through a hereditary means rather than the more common case of pernicious anemia. As such he can handle it by eating certain foods rich in vitamin B12 without dangerous health consequences, though it does cause his hair to loose all pigmentation as a side effect.
