Shinya was a firebomb raining disorder onto the Galarian circuit. With nothing more than an endorsement letter from the trainer academy, her sweep through the first three gym challenges garnered the attention from competitors and sponsors alike. She was a manic. She was raised by a wild Obstagoon. She was a PR nightmare. Only two of those things were true. She was hardly diagnosed with anything. Her unhinged eyes were more of a quirk than a concern. Oh and the whole Obstagoon thing. She blamed the media for taking her sarcasm out of context for that one. The more accurate term for her demeanor would be extroverted with a touch of ego. Shinya knows that she's an amazing trainer and revels in the chance to prove her detractors wrong. She hungers for more competition and surrounds herself with those that challenge her physically, mentally, or strategically. It isn't enough for her Pokemon to be the best. She must maintain her own image as well. Because of that, she takes losses to heart and depending on how wide the margin is, will spiral into week long bouts of crying and training. Conversely, winning on brings fleeting satisfaction before she thirsts for the next challenge. Becoming the undisputed champion has become quite the bore for her. The lack of challenge has caused her to fall into a slump that not even her fellow veterans could break her out of. Eventually the Pokemon Frontier Challenge caught her eye and she set off on her next adventure.

  Esther is an up-and-coming trainer and coordinator going through a mid-career crisis, struggling with questions that define the relationship between her and her pokémon. The Mesaea Frontier Challenge, for her, is as much a challenge as it is a needed break from her pokémon team and 'reset'. Her struggles have her rifling between somber rumination and willful whimsy, but she hopes to work through her challenges and the Mesaea Challenge.
  
  She's a small-town girl of humble origins and grand ambitions; energetic and opinionated, she isn't afraid to speak her mind and tell you exactly what she thinks about Pinap on Pizza ("It's a yes!"). Esther revels in the excitement of visiting other regions and exploring new places and prefers to rough it in the wilds, over the comforts of a hotel or pokémon center.

Born into a long line of traditional Galarian blacksmiths Damon started to learn the family trade at a young age and although he respected the art his ancestors had made their name with his heart belonged to the competitive battling scene. Galarians are known for their near fanatical love of the sport and Damon is no exception, setting out to leave his mark on the gym challenge the moment he turned 10. With his adaptive off-the-cuff battle style he tore through the eight hurdles and went on to compete in a series of regional tournaments as well, all of which he performed admirably in, even taking the crown in one held on the Isle of armour. Going back to his blacksmithing roots in an attempt to meet his disapproving parents halfway he fashioned a distinctive set of traditional plate armour to wear for these events, making quite the name for himself alongside his partner Valtyr. Becoming the Galar champion was his boyhood dream but now that he's had a taste of the open road and travelling alongside his partners he isn't ready to settle down and attempt to obtain such a permanent position just yet. The current Galar champ has quite the reputation anyway...

Whilst leaving Valtyr behind stung, the Mesaea frontier challenge sounded like an interesting experience that would put his skills as a trainer to the test. Who could resist?

  Raised in a Dojo surrounded by a family of traditional martial artists, Ryo was all but forced to go on his Pokemon journey at the age of 10. For his family, it was a right of passage and he was forbidden from returning unless he returned with a satisfying amount of badges. His first journey ends in disappointment with Ryo not being able to get his third badge from Falkner. Unable to return home he travels to Kanto where he can refine his technique and battle tactics against the Kanto region's gyms. His training takes him far with him returning to his home region to fight the elite 4 and even challenging Lance for the title of Johto Champion. It however results in his loss and despite having more than enough badges, Ryo refuses to go back home.
  
  Known for his happy-go-lucky demeanor, yet aggressive fighting style both in and out of Pokemon battles have earned Ryo a reputation in his home region. He's a man just as likely to break a criminal's nose as he is to sweep their entire team, which makes him a bit of a pariah in some circles and a hero in others.
  
  Wishing for a challenge and a chance to improve his skills, the Mesaea frontier challenge looks like the perfect opportunity for just that.
