On another world in another reality, monsters live amongst mortals. In eras long past, these creatures, called Kaiju at the height of their power, held origin across the universe. From the embodiment of mother nature, to the wrath of nuclear weaponry, to extradimensional entities who wiped out the dinosaurs and have returned to do it again.
Humans, aided by the planet earth sought to end the destruction of the Kaiju as they fought for territory and title. They first developed technology to withstand these monsters, and later, with the aid of the earth’s magic, to bind them into a manageable form. Any Kaiju that ever has or will touch the ground or sea on Earth becomes bound in a humanoid form unless the earth permits them otherwise.
In this new world, Kaiju are both feared and discriminated against. Shopkeepers can refuse them service, they are punished more harshly for their crimes. Their fear is not without reason, for the kaiju that exist are descended from beings compared to gods at the height of their power. One was literally called “Godzilla”. Indeed, some humans wish to serve these beings, forming cults around their unnatural idol.
But now new problems arise. The Kaiju on earth are not the only ones in the universe, it seems, as new Kaiju from farther out in the universe begin to arrive. Will the newly formed Kaiju Force defend the earth against invaders as their ancestors once did, or will the invaders take the Earth and force it to submit?
And will there be more?
----------------------
Welcome to the Shifterverse, a tale of man and beast set in the far future of the Godzilla universe. The Earth became angry at the destruction Godzilla and his fellow kaiju wrought, and with the aid of humans and her Divine Moths, she wrought a spell over the planet that turns Kaiju into humanoid versions of their true form. We’ve got magic, monsters, and science fiction, all rolled into one! Come on in!

The Kaiju that exist today are descendants of the Kaiju which existed at the height of Kaiju power, prior to the Earth saying “Enough!” Sorry, Godzilla and the gang are dead. You can play one of their descendants, though, or create an entirely new Kaiju.
It is very easy to tell a Kaiju from a normal human because Kaiju have certain features humans do not, related to their true form. This could be as simple as their eyes appear different or they have a strangely shaped shadow, or as grand as wings, horns, tails, or patches of scales.
Humans and Kaiju are capable of having kids together, but the resulting child will always be a Kaiju of their kaiju parent’s type.
Although Kaiju are far more powerful than any human or construct of man, they are a great minority. Humans outnumber Kaiju by a thousand to one, and Kaiju are discriminated against as such. Shopkeepers can refuse service, they are punsished more harshly for their crimes, and so on. There are a few known classes of Kaiju, or Kaiju with related features that help classify them. They are:
Reptilians
These are the Kaiju whom resembled reptiles in their true forms. The most notable of whom was the legendary Godzilla, but others, such as Zilla or Manda were here as well. Another legendary reptilian Kaiju is King Ghidorah, the Golden Hydra, and his cousin, Desghidorah the Death Hydra. These Kaiju usually have traits such as tails, back spines, and claws.
Insectoid
These Kaiju, sometimes called Bug People, are usually mutated insects, with the exception of Megaguirus, which is an ancient species of dragonfly pulled forward in time, and the Divine Moths, which are the embodiment of nature’s Love and Fury. These Kaiju may sport extra hands, or antennae, wings, and even compound eyes. In the case of the Divine Moth, there are two sub-categories:
Love Mothra
These are casually created by the Earth. Sporting brightly colored wings and fuzzy antennae, they tend to be bubbly individuals, much like the first of their kind, Mothra.
Fury Moth
When the Earth is hurt, either by Kaiju or by humans, she creates the Fury Moth. Also called the Black Mothra, these sport darker colors than their cousins, and they tend to be physically stronger. They may have horns or claws, and can look fearsome when angry, like Battra, the first Fury Moth. Often having a temper, they might go overboard in their restoration of the Earth, and necessitate a Love Moth to come straighten them out.
Avian
These Kaiju are flyers by nature, resembling birds. They sport a pair of wings, and perhaps taloned feet. No one really knows why Avian Kaiju exist, the only two known were Rodan and Giant Condor, and both died before producing children.
Mammalian
Kaiju that are like mammals. They may have traits reminiscent of bears, bulls, cats, dogs, lions, no one knows. The most notable of which is King Ceaser, the Sun Dog Kaiju.
Biollante
These Kaiju are all descended from Biollante, the plant Kaiju. They may have traits such as vines for hair or a green tint to their skin. They do not eat as other Kaiju do, for the most part. Some can gain sustenance from normal food, but others absorb nutrients from mineral water and sunlight.
Mechanical
These are artificial Kaiju created by humans to fight off other Kaiju. The first was the MechaGodzilla. Although they are not true Kaiju, they are still bound by Earth’s spell, and are assembled in space to keep the parts from changing shape. They may look more human than any other class of Kaiju, often indistinguishable except for their eyes, any injury reveals their shiny metal body.
Unknown
This is not a playable class of Kaiju. These are the monsters who come from beyond the observable universe. They are usually hostile, towards each other if not the earth. Usually intelligent, they are able to survive space with ease, and pose a dire threat to the Earth without her Kaiju protectors. An example of an Unknown Kaiju originating on Earth is Hedora, the Smog Kaiju, whom is long dead.
Hive
These are Kaiju whom have the power to create and control crowds of themselves. An example is the Megaguirus species, who have the ability to convert energy into a kind of dragonfly called a meganula. Any Kaiju of the Hive type likely belongs to another class of Kaiju.

The Kaiju Force is the newly forged group of Kaiju to defend the Earth from incoming threats of Unknown Kaiju. They are each issued a uniform reminiscent of their class ancestor. For example, a Divine Moth might have a uniform like this:
These Kaiju certainly bear higher status than others, but can still be discriminated against. They are also used to police other rogue Kaiju. Each squad of the Kaiju force is run by a human magician who acts as a liason with Mother Earth.
Other Kaiju exist, but like any minority they try to stay out of trouble. Unfortunately, trouble comes looking for any minority.

Magicians are humans who have been blessed by the earth as her representatives. They have access to magic of various forms, form the four elements to telepathy, to even blood magic, but they all have one thing in common: If they enter a trance and ask the earth a question, she will answer unless she doesn’t know the answer. Each squad of the Kaiju Force is led by a Magician who acts as their liason to the earth. Through their sorcerer, the Kaiju can gain the Earth’s permission to take on their true form.
Stats
Stats are a reflection of a character’s abilities. Strength, Intelligence, Constitution, Dexterity, and Other, refer to physical strength and durability, how smart you are, how strong your will is, how agile or good with projectiles you are, and your ability to use your Kaiju power or magic. For a human, the cap for any skill is 20. For a Kaiju, it is 60.
Human characters start with a total of 60 stat points to distribute. Kaiju characters start with a total of 90. At certain milestones, the GM will award participating characters a “Level Up”. This grants you 3 points to distribute.
Health
Your Maximum HP is the result of adding your Strength, Constitution, and Other stat scores.
Fighting Turn Cycle
When the Gm announces that there is a fight, whomever is involved will roll 1d20 and add one fifth of their Dexterity score. From highest to lowest, this is the turn cycle.
Attacks
Attacks differ in nature. For example, a Magician can use magic, but a normal human can’t. A Kaiju can use their unique anatomy, but a magician can’t. Attacks are made by rolling a specific die and adding one quarter of the skill related to that attack. For example, a physical attack uses strength, a mental attack uses intelligence, a projectile uses dexterity, and a power/magic attack uses Other. Here’s some basic attacks and their dice:
Punch/Kick- d6
Headbutt- d4, d8 if you have horns.
Tail- d8
Wing- d6
Spikes- d8
Mind- d10
Magic Bolt- d8
Magic Beam- d10
Magic Explosion- 4d8
Kaiju Bolt- d12
Kaiju Beam- 2d12
Kaiju Explosion- 2d10
Sonic- 3d6
Keep in mind that your character has to have traits relating to the attack to be able to perform it. You can’t make a tail attack if you don’t have a tail or your tail doesn’t at least reach the ground, or you can’t make a mind attack if you don’t have telepathic or hypnotic abilities. Additionally, the GM may grant you a bonus to your attack if you are in an advantageous position. For example; A Kaiju attack on an ordinary human would do double damage, because there’s no way in hell an ordinary human without the support of the Earth can resist that.
Using Beam and Explosion attacks have a cooldown of three rounds.
Status Effects
Perhaps an attack or some other event gives you a status effect. Well, here’s how they work and how much damage that it might do over how long it lasts.
Burning- You are on fire! Literally, you’re burning up. 1d6 damage each turn for 5 turns.
Bleeding- You’ve been cut and you’re bleeding out! Unless someone stabilizes you, you take 1d6 damage every turn for 10 turns.
Hemorrhaging- You are seriously busted up. 1d10 each turn until someone stabilizes you.
Confusion- Your mind is addled. Every turn you must make an Int save or you cannot move/attack/dodge/block. Lasts 5 turns.
Dehydrated- A lack of water has caused you to take damage (Amphibious/Aquatic Individuals only) 1d6 every 3 rounds.
Poisoned- There is a toxic compound inside you and your body doesn’t like it! 1d4 per round for 6 rounds.
Prone- Your health points have dropped below 1/8. You must succeed a Constitution or Strength save, or someone must pull you to your feet, otherwise you can only make punch, kick, or tail attacks.
Dead- Your health points have dropped to 0 and you have failed your Death Save 3 times or not been aided. You are dead. Make a new character or ask a party member with healing abilities to resurrect you.
Kaiju Boost
If a Kaiju is granted permission by the Earth to take on their true form, and they do so, their Strength, Dex, and Other scores double, even if they exceed the cap, as do their Health Points.
Checks
Occasionally, something will occur that the DM decides necessitates a check. When this happens, you roll a d20 and add one quarter the related stat.
