Dragon Transcendant Speed Style

“Here I tell you a tale of two,

One daughter of the Sun,

And one daughter of the Moon.

When one is born, so too is the other.

If one should die, the other must too.

This is a story of the sisters,

A tale of the Chosen twins.

The Sun, she was silent,

And watched, and observed.

Without motion, or passion,

Until harm would come.

Then she would dance,

In the beat of her heart,

And so her blades won,

’Tween sight and ’tween sound.

For the daughters would look,

In the deep no-sense places,

And learn of the world

And the shapes it could take.

So the Sun’s daughter,

Bent the world to her will,

And so few in the world

Matched their skill to her own."

This is part of the Sun and Moon’s Daughters legends, which are still passed around by storytellers in the Scavenger lands. Obviously, their references to the Sun and Moon have resulted in them being subtly suppressed in areas where the Immaculate Philosophy holds power.

Those in any way familiar with the Exalted, of course, realise that the legends are about a pair from the First Age. Hurano and Harani, Solar and Lunar respectively. This particular passage regards Hurano, and her preferred fighting style. She was of the Dawn Caste, and like many, was a master of multiple martial arts. She relied on her brilliant mind in combat, defeating her opponents through deep insights, quick wits and split-second tactical decisions. She and her sister were somewhat unpopular as the First Age reached its height, however, for they had a fascination with the Wyld and the possibilities of that unstable reality. Other Exalted scorned their foolishness in playing with fire, and in the end, they considered themselves proved right; Harani eventually went insane and had to be killed, though none but Hurano figured out that it wasn’t because of the Wyld’s influence.

Centuries before that eventual tragedy, however, Hurano used principles discovered by observing the Wyld to construct a Celestial style of great power: The Dragon Transcendent Speed Style, so named because, supposedly, it made the user faster than anything within the purview of the Five Elemental Dragons, i.e. Creation. During that period, a debate was raging in the Deliberative as to the course of action taken against the hostile Fair Folk; one such debate was whether to attack them first, or to wait until they made the first move and then counterattack.

Hurano considered both sides to lack ambition.

This style, which was to remain her chosen mode of combat until the end of her life, was based on her philosophy; to become so fast and deadly that she could strike and defeat her opponent after they had begun their attack… but before they landed it.

Dragon Transcendent Speed Style is a Celestial-level Style, based on bending the flow of time itself to attain victory. Its inspiration was a combination of the Discworld’s History Monks, the Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryu style used by Kenshin in Rurouni Kenshin, and the phrase “character spends essence, moves wicked fast.”

Characters who use DTS as their main Martial Arts style may make MA attacks barehanded or with swords; however, the Charms are compatible with the use of any weapon, and can all be freely Comboed with Charms of other abilities. They are not, however, compatible with armour. The majority of these Charms allow the character to move faster, some of them much faster, than their anima can dissipate. The effect of this is that, at high levels of speed, a momentary trail of glowing essence is left behind through the space they move.

Please note that this style is deliberately designed to be almost absurdly powerful, being the creation of a Solar martial artist at the peak of the First Age.
