juno florialis

loyalist - district 4 escort

katie mcgrath

♡coded by uxie♡

𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗟
name: juno florialis
nickname: junie, june
age: thirty
gender: female
sexuality: pansexual
race: white
residence: the capitol
role: loyalist - district 4 escort
allegiance: the capitol, of course

𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗚𝗘
hair: honey blonde
eyes: green
height: five foot seven
body mods: earrings pierced (single hole), veneers
distinguishing features: of her attire, juno is most often seen in vibrant colours with matching floral appendages— intentionally honouring her own namesake, of course. From purples to pinks to greens and blues, nothing that she wears is ever desaturated or muted. It's all or nothing. Her eyebrows are also intentionally dyed several shades darker than her natural colour, even if that is a dull blonde usually (compared to the dyed honeyed locks she wears). Her makeup is usually accented with a bright pout of pink lipstick (a fuschia sort of colour, no matter what outfit).
face claim: katie mcgrath

PERSONA
personality: bubbly and becoming, Juno is the picture of Capitol friendliness. Doing her best to maintain both manner and decorum in the face of stubborn tributes, condescending mentors and the menagerie of Capitol citizens who seek to make lives that aren't their own the most difficult, her composure is monitored through winning smiles and chirping laughter. She is fiercely driven to perform the best that she can, finding resistance to be an annoying deterrent as much as a thorn in the ass. Never one to curse or to complain or outwardly shout, Juno displays the fractals of her more negative personality through stubborn insistence and a sense of superiority. Getting things done, especially on her own agenda, is her way of persevering through hard times. As long as she follows her schedules and her rituals she knows that everything will be fine.

Far from naïve, her obliviousness can come off as willful ignorance more than anything. It is, in fact, a guarded act of continuing to maintain control: as emphasized previously. While not entirely by the book, in a lawfully good way, her own wills and morals tend to perform better than the louder voices that may insist otherwise. At the time being she is purposefully complacent in Capitol behaviours and sentiments, knowing fully that it is how she was raised and it is what she believes to be right. Whether or not this could continue to be a sentiment rides wholly on her own decision making— atrocities witnessed first hand are, usually, evidence enough. Her scope for violence is a bit desaturated, as is the norm for growing up in a culture where death is blasted on large screens to instill complacency in its citizens, and it may come off that she enjoys it.

She does, and all of the privileges and benefits it supplies.

Juno loves complimenting, being complimented, but does not thrive in direct spotlight. Preferring to be the glint in someone's one or a twinkle in the stars, she is strangely humble about wanting the best for her tributes; even if they end up dead by the end of the Games. On her own time she maintains a rather quiet life accented with whatever social events and parties are needed to maintain one's reputations. Privately she enjoys fashion and design, reading up and practicing on her own with countless hidden journals of sketches and colour combinations.

likes: sweet flavours, parties, mint flavour, the grind of charcoal on paper, floral smells (and any matter of flowers or floral eccentricities)
dislikes: fish, wetness, walking long distances, arguments, a lack of punctuality
strengths: togetherness, problem-solving and planning, quick-thinking, capitol culture
weaknesses: stubbornness, non-confrontational, uppity, blinding optimism
fears: rumours of rebellion frighten her more than a missed alarm; to lose all that is familiar and known would send her into a spiral. Juno also fears losing her position and her reputation, finding just as much comfort in knowing and relishing in others talking about her positively, rather than negatively or not at all.
ambitions: in a strange turn of fate, she does desire a bit of change in life and the freedom to do what she would like. Shepherding tributes about yearly, and sometimes for longer, gives her a bit of an ache to think long term about. There is a joy in ditching decorum, just a little— but she'd never admit it.

reputation: Among the other elites of the Capitol, Juno is celebrated for her abilities as an escort, always being punctual and having good intentions for her tributes. Though it is well known that she despises District 4 (amounting them mostly to fishmongers and stink), she works her hardest with them. Her reputation of being a joy to be around and a rather positive force is also known, with many believing she's seemingly unmovable against changing schedules and trouble (another carefully maintained impression, though the opposite would be true).
can we kill them off? yes and maybe, later on FOR SURE but I would like to see what can happen in the meantime
do you want them in the quarter quell? character to not participate in the quell!

HISTORY
childhood: Born in the Capitol to a somewhat socially prominent family, Juno had little to beg for in life. Attention, maybe, from her parents who spent their days entertaining the masses and appealing to those who carried more wealth and more status, or from her older sister who seemingly wanted nothing to do with her. The product of a second marriage, Juno struggled to cling to her sibling or her own mother. Forced to find ways to entertain herself, she spent her days either shadowing her father's work as a stylist when she wasn't in school, or doodling in a sketchpad.

Living a frivolous and materialistic childhood she truly had little to worry about, learning as most Capitol children do: little about their own volition, and much about the ins and outs of Capitol allegiance and blind faith in the way that things are. The Hunger Games, for example, was entertainment to the child, and merely that. Never fearing any Reaping, or any loss of family or friends, Juno adored the tributes and their various outfits. Too young to realize the reality of death, or the real life traumas inflicted on them, it was her older sister's twisted grin that hinted, perhaps, there was something else to be learned from these.

Still, nothing ever really cemented.

adolescence: In her teen years she found interest in garnering the approval and attention of her peers at school, as well. Gloating about her father's career as a stylist, and that she'd no doubt follow in his same or similar footsteps, as well as her mother's well-paying position media management job, it was a game in itself to vie among the others for something to distinguish ones self. As children grew from impressionable husks to independent machines, wandering and wanting their own compliments and dominance over others, so did Juno's appeal and desire to be known. Though she was not as loud about her gloating and her privileged whining as the others, often drowned out by louder voices who spewed fabricated accomplishments, she relished in whatever she could get from it.

Indeed, in time following graduation from school she found herself working under her father for some time as an assistant. There she had first hand encounters with tributes, those among District 4, and got her first taste of the Games behind the scenes. To say that she had a bit of a sour note for these particular tributes would be to put it lightly; some were worse than others in terms of socially acceptable behaviours or general manners. Hearing her father's complaints in private fueled her own impression, but it did not shy her enthusiasm, at least. Rather than linger on his own negative emotions, Juno did seek to make her own waves with the tributes; remaining a smiling face in times of their own stress. Whether it was true empathy or just her own desire to avoid the unavoidable tensions, it soon became real enough anyway.

games: She continued for some time under her father's tutelage, and in due time of crafting her own reputations and impressions on Capitol citizens and among those responsible for organizing the whole of the Games, she managed to secure herself... another assistant position. It wasn't much, surely, and Juno bit back her grimaces often in favour of keeping her smile and working for the experience. In all honesty she found assisting the current escort (for district four as well) to be fundamental, more than she would have admitted all those years ago as still a young and fresh face in the scene. Evocative and full of technique and acquaintances, Juno found escorting to be a far more riveting line of work; even if she did miss assisting her father's design meetings. Having always already been rather punctual on her own, she fell naturally into the rhythm of things.

In age she did, as well, become aware of the nature of... Everything, really. Naivete no longer clouded her impression of both the tributes and the Games, instead painting it a more merciful shade of violet. Admitting the wrongdoings of murder, and the spectacle of it, would be a betrayal to her very upbringing. Not one to openly or even privately dismiss the Games, and still remaining just as entranced by the performance and publication of the Games, a sense of cognitive dissonance could only be satiated by telling herself that making the tributes pre-game experience as seamless, fun even, as possible justified their possible deaths. It made her feel good too, especially when things went seamless, that no matter what— it's not as if she could have prevented it. The odd hiccups pushed her ability to empathize, without a doubt, but Juno remained chipper to cope with it all, herself.

Playing bystander to the systematic, violent retribution of once rebellious states could not breed similar feelings, not from her upbringing, no matter how horrifying the notion really was. Like trying to slip two puzzle pieces in their form, any flaw in the shape or outline would result in a false match. Thus, in this way, Juno's compliance comes from the nurturing environment of a collective, obedient consciousness.

She finally became her own escort, maintaining the title for district 4, after the quiet retirement (and subsequent disappearance) of the previous escort. Not one to question, she took the role in open arms.

post-games: Her first Victor. Midas. A gold touch indeed, despite Juno having really anything to do with pre-game training beyond social appearances and grand gestures to potential sponsors, and the public, alike. Everything went well— the best really, that she could have asked for. A good feeling, above it all, that she hadn't felt for any of the previous few tributes before. She was not his mentor, not in any manner of the Games, and yet she did her best to instill what she could in the greatest game of all.

In the years since she's kept the blistering high from having a single Victor that she's shepherded, using it to try and instill public favour in the tributes that followed after.

  • warning!

The beast will crawl, this Earth then fall in the dirt to feed to crows. They’ll rip apart his flesh till all that’s left is glorious bone. So you’ll bury your own, too vain. You saw it unfold, what you know and you claimed all you could hold until death did you part from the mess you made.
