Some 200+ years ago, a baby was born in Qing Qing City, China. From birth, this child had the ability to emit light, which in turn, would be the very beginning of superpowers manifesting in humankind. While the cause of this phenomenon is unknown, it has been theorized that it was caused by the spread of a previously unknown virus carried by mice, although this theory had no hard evidence. Society in the wake of these new abilities (which would come to be named “Quirks”) broke down and nearly collapsed, due in part by the sudden onslaught of criminals empowered by their newfound "superpowers" and ordinary people being prejudiced against the new minority.
As society adapted to the new quotidian, the Police Force moved to prioritize leadership and to attempt to prevent an unheeding wave of chaos, and as such, decided not to use Quirks as weapons. To fill that void, the profession of crime-fighting Quirk users, Pro Heroes, began to exist, starting in Rhode Island, USA.. Authorizing the use of powers that could so easily kill, however, was a greatly criticized decision at first, but eventually became accepted as a legitimate occupation. This became known as the "Advent of the Extraordinary.”
Flash forward to the present, and roughly 80% of the people who make up the global population possess a Quirk, and that percentage continues to increase.
As the power of quirks approaches greater and greater heights, and more powerful villains make their appearance in the need for more skilled, talented, and powerful heroes has increased. So, to increase the output and opportunity for young people of great potential, Hero academies were created. In order for a person to become a licensed Pro Hero, they must undergo an education and training program in the subject of heroism. This Heroics course is integrated into a student's high school education.
The Heroics course includes rescue training, combat training, and even training for dealing with the media. Schools with hero courses also provide their students with their own hero costumes and support gear, which are tailored to suit their design choices and Quirk functions. Students are trained so they can eventually earn their hero licenses and become fully fledged Pro Heroes themselves.
There is no hero academy in the west more famous than the legendary UA High School. UA. is the #1 ranked high school for heroics and is considered as the top Hero Academy in Japan. Students are separated based on their abilities into specific Departments and Classes - A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, and K.
UA does not adhere to traditional school methods, and allows their staff to teach their classes however they like. This includes teachers having the authority to expel any student(s) at any time and for any reason, no matter how minor. Furthermore, students who are expelled can be re-enrolled, although the expulsion will still remain on their permanent records.
U.A. is renowned for having trained and produced some of the best heroes in Japan.
And now, that brings us to you. Maybe from a young age, you had the desire or dream to become a hero. Or perhaps you were born to a hero family, and felt it was your duty to carry on that lineage. Either way, you’ve made it to your middle-school graduation. And now you find yourself, standing at the entrance exam to UA

Your Hero Academia is a linear, story driven RP taking place in an alternate timeline of my hero academia, where the player characters substitute the original seatings for members of class 1-A (in order of ascending relevancy) and now must endure the main events of the canon storyline, moving from just slightly before the UA entry exam, to the (foreseeable) end arcs of the series.

This RP will give complete freedom to players, but will generally fall within the confines of the My Hero Academia storyline, due to its more linear nature. As opposed to say, an Overlord inspired RP which can inherently be more open

Rules:
  • Your character’s power must be properly balanced. Their level of ability should be properly countered by their drawback. This does not imply a drawback minimum or maximum, but a drawback intensity, which will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
  • Since your character will inevitably be training to improve their quirk control and strength, you will likely be expected to lessen the strength of the abilities’ drawbacks over time. As It’s only fair that we’re afforded the same plot armor and advancement level as the main characters, since the plot, while remaining the same on their end (changes to the plot relating to our characters actions not withstanding).
  • Canon slots are open, but not compulsory. The author and co-author will be completely fine playing the roles of the canons along with their ocs. We will do our best, and will always be open to criticism of our interpretations.
  • As always, this is a safe space. Please don’t discriminate on the basis of things like gender or race. Keep things civil.
  • Please avoid your character having a previously unknown genetic relation to a canon character. If there’s a reasonable enough story explanation, they can, however, have some form of minor platonic and non-family relation with the characters it would make sense for. Though only if everyone can agree on it. (Ie; Anything with Shoto is off limits, but possibly having gone to Middle School with Uraraka isn’t.) again, it’s case by case, but it’s probably a good rule of thumb to try not to drastically alter the storyline or setting.
Quirks should probably be different enough from other pre-existing ones, as to avoid confusion. Although, since some characters will be replaced, this is also significantly case by case.

Don't wanna be rude, but kinda wanted to step in and say that we won't discriminate on refs, as long as a character isn't just a Captain Ersatz/Expy, they'll be accepted.

Though, if it were me personally, unrelated to this submission, I'd rather you all try and stick to non-realistic-refs. Anime and illustrations are fine.

Oh of course I ain't got a problem with it, just making conversation

Might be worth putting that at top of thread to interlink the various pages. aka OOC/Main RP/Characters/Lore etc. Helps navigate to check things especially once the RP gets rolling
