Welcome to the Lore thread of Young Guns. Here I will include posts about the RP characters, chronology, and even some real world info I uncovered while researching the era in case anyone is a fan of authenticity.

Each marshal received a base annual salary of $200 through much of the 19th century. Yet he could earn up to $4,000 annually, by earning a percentage of fees for serving subpoenas, warrants and handling other court matters. However, he had to share such fees with his deputies.

Those fees included: serving papers, $2; arrests, $4; mileage, 5¢ per mile. These amounts were gradually elevated.

The income of a local sheriff came primarily from collecting taxes. This could be lucrative in areas where railroads and mines were located.

While cows were the point, cowboys did make pay for the drive. A trail boss could earn as much as $125 a month, the average Old West cowboy drew $25 to $40 a month.
