Danny turned to look at him when she spoke up. Told him to not mention Cody, like he didn't have every right to. Was it cruel saying things like he was? Sure, but it wasn't a surprise coming from him. And then she was going on, saying that--
"Shut up," was all that came out of his mouth at first. Pathetic, really. He didn't know what to say to her. (Was it because he realized Winnie had been right all along? Surely not.)
Instead, he paced around the room like an agitated animal, intending to ignore her as well. It was hard to when kept talking despite the fact she was literally dying right in front of him. Figures she'd do something like that. He heard the sound of the gates being powered up soon after, and let out a breath. The other two weren't coming, then, if he had to guess. Most didn't once the gates had been opened. Sometimes it happened, but he doubted that was the case here.
Playing house? That's what she wanted to call it? His gaze snapped back over to her once more, and even without seeing his face it was obvious the glare he was giving her from beneath it.
"You don't know what you're talking about," he hissed out. The thing was, she did. That was the problem. No matter how much he denied it, some part of him knew every word she was saying to him right now was right.
"Maybe I should've killed you quickly," he mutters, half under his breath. Knew he couldn't have, not unless he really did go against the Entity's rules, but god how he had the itch to now. To drive his blade into her skin and silence her. No point now when she was about to die anyways, but the urge was there regardless. He continued his circle around the room instead.
Finally, there was quiet. Her voice and breaths had faded and the only sound was that strange sort of hum that happened when trials were about to end. He was going to get sent back soon. Good. He was glad. He didn't want to see any of their faces anymore.
Cody had been restless ever since he got sent back himself. Couldn't stay still, kept getting up from where he'd originally went and sat, pacing around a short distance away from the fire before a familiar voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
"Winnie?" He blinked and looked up, seeing her over by a couple of the others. He walked over, probably quicker than needed but trying to make it seem like he wasn't affected. As if it wasn't obvious. Who wouldn't have been?
He faltered though when he stood before her. What was he supposed to say? Ask if she was ok? That's what he wanted to, but everyone knew that was a dumb question in a place like this. Yeah, she was physically ok now, but mentally? God knows at this point if any of them were.
His eyes darted away, shifting from foot to foot. This felt more awkward than it needed to be. He wasn't really sure why. Finally he spoke after a moment.
"I'm sorry you saw that," he settled on, as if it was his fault Danny did what he did. Ok, it kind of was, but he couldn't have expected him to do that! Was he even allowed to? He had the same questions Winnie had when she witnessed it. He was tempted to ask around about it but also didn't really want to. "I don't-- Why did he do that? I thought..." He trailed off as if he couldn't gather his thoughts, but she probably could guess what he wanted to say. Thought they could only die on hooks.
Well, turns out both of them had died in different ways this time. Not that he knew that part right now.
