Krauss - The Specialist
Location: Resort

The conclusion of the mission was more of an annoyance to Krauss than anything else. He had to sit in an interrogation room, while still having his dirty suit, while he was asked questions about Magma’s demise. The German kept a cool levelled head the whole time, with a neutral expression, answering only what was necessary. The annoyance in the investigators' faces as they asked him questions were palatable. He lied in a good chunk of his testimony, getting out scot-free at the end of the questioning. Or maybe the police, at the end of the day, knew that the criminal had been executed and just didn’t want to press the issue. For the man, it was indifferent. In a way, he had acted exactly according to his instructions, nothing more nor less.

The following day, he showed up in his best suit, reporting directly to Eagle himself. He debriefed every bit of information for the avian with nothing, but honest truth. Even the part where he shot the unconscious Magma, at point-blank, and finished the job the feline woman had started. The boss didn’t show much reaction to what he was told, besides warning him of the obvious discretion he needed to keep from everyone. Indeed, no one knew what he really happened in that back alley, save for the punk-looking, black-haired girl. And, with the exact same poker-face he had walked inside Eagle’s office, he left, after disclosing everything about the mission from his point of view.

ONE MONTH LATER

The announcement that the agents were going on a mission on a resort, which sounded more like a holiday, sure got the Specialist surprised. As far as he remembered, he had been working without any kind of holiday for a long, long time. The man was his work, nothing more. No ties to anyone, but the agents he worked with on a regular basis. He didn’t know quite yet what to think about it, but he didn’t show much emotion about it either way. Taking both his bags to his own room, he followed other agents, which he didn’t quite know yet, as they were also making their room towards room 408. As the door was opened, and he stepped inside the room, his green eyes quickly scanned the place. There were only two beds. While they were king-sized beds, they were still only two beds.

Looking at his roommates, Krauss raised his eyebrows, analysing each one of them: the first was a ( Phayne Phayne ) beast kin. Similar to the feline woman, but showing a greater proximity to lagomorphs. Big ears, white fur, most likely fluffy. The German clearly wanted to stay clear from him, not because he was a bunny, but because he would rather not get fur on his clothes. Next up, it was a ( StealthyShades StealthyShades ) black-haired man with a scorn expression on his face. As much as he tried to analyse him, nothing came back, and he couldn’t quite put him. And finally, the ( poi poi ) albino-skinned, white-haired man. He looked laid back, relaxed. Well, no matter what they looked, or how they acted, the man was sure as hell not going to share a bed with any of them, as he would rather sleep sitting on the armchair that was located at the corner of the room.

The man first walked towards the bedroom, while carrying his duffle bag with it. After getting inside it, the others probably heard some rustling, before he came out of it. When he stepped out of it, he was not wearing his formal suit anymore, but a flowered blue shirt, open, showing his worked out chest, a pair of gray short and white slippers.

He then walked towards said armchair. Stopping in front of the armchair, the Westerner plopped down the duffle bag he was carrying, unzipping it, slowly. The trio could hear some metallic sounds coming from it, reverberating ominous in that room with the sound of brass and metal rubbing against each other - “I will sleep here. I am sure there will be no objections to it” - he proclaimed, devoid of any emotion, turning towards the other males with something in his right hand. A loud click was heard as the barrel of his revolver was closed shut. The man held the firearm for a few moments, his poker-face changing its gaze towards each of them, before storing the firearm in the back of his shorts, where it was concealed by his shirt and easily drawn if he needed to.

“A massage sure would hit the spot” - the man said, while holding the back of his neck with his right hand and then moving his head left and right a bit.

► Ugetsu Minase [PHANTASM]
When he had first received the summons, Ugetsu had been as confused as just about anyone else present. Was this a mission or was it a vacation-slash-therapy session poorly disguised as official business? Regardless of how Eagle had described a potentially nefarious plot related to drugs, it was odd to fly agents all the way down to Okinawa. Weren’t there hero agencies stationed both within Okinawa and in surrounding areas that were better equipped to deal with the situation?

Well, anything was fine if it gave him an excuse to refuse his parents’ missive to return to the company for…whatever business they wanted him to deal with this time.

3 missed calls.

As Ugetsu boarded the plane, he dismissed the notification from his phone. His older brother must have had a lot to say if he hadn’t given up after the first call. Though, he doubted it was much beyond the usual scoldings about how their parents spoil him too much and to stop playing at being a hero. It was almost as if that was all he knew to say nowadays.

Fortunately, given his affinity for water, arriving at the beach resort instantly improved his mood, not that he’d been particularly irritated in the first place. With not much reason to stick around in the room, Ugetsu dropped off his luggage in an inconspicuous corner of room 401 before leaving the only other person in the room, Shin, with a few parting words.

Now the question was, where to? There was always the option of aimlessly wandering the halls and discover what was where along the way, but given the massive size of the resort, he doubted that was a wise choice. Perhaps his best course of action would be to head down to the front desk. At least, he hoped the staff had a brochure or a printed map of sorts.

“This just in. Once admired by many, tonight the founder of ‘Brilliance’ hero agency, Paragon, has been formally arrested for seemingly having ties with a major villain group who planned to launch a mass bombing throughout the metropolis. Officials say that the rest of its members were not aware, but investigation is still underway-“

The screen instantly went blank.

kameda2.png

“Fucking perfect!” a gruff voice exclaimed a bit too loudly at what he just heard; his words full of righteous frustration.

renachan2.png

“This can’t be real...” another murmured softly although there was no hiding the anxiety that made her voice quiver with fear and uncertainty. They hovered over a small television, the two tried to sit still but it was clear that the development made them antsy. Almost all the news channels were broadcasting about it, so it was hard to get away from not hearing about it. A door creaked open and a woman with brown, medium-cut hair entered the living room where the voices resided. They hurriedly jumped to their feet at the sound of it.

“Chloe-senpai!”

“Everyone,” The brunette put a finger up in front of her lips, “Please keep it down, it’s almost midnight you know.”

She closed the door behind her gently but despite the troubling news, she kept a reassuring smile on her face as she walked over to where the other two were. Joining them on the floor, the others followed suit and did the same, looking expectantly at her. Clearing her throat, Chloe spoke once more regarding the matter, “Yes, I heard what they said before Kameda turned the TV off. Believe me, I find it hard to believe myself.”

“How did this shit even happen in the first place!? - It hit all of us out of nowhere,” the redheaded male growled, “As far as I know ever since joining the agency four years ago with Rena-chan, Paragon… wouldn’t stoop this low, she had too much on the line.”

“Kameda-kun’s right…what worries me though is now that the founder’s gone…what will happen to us? The agency? Is it going to shut down?! I can’t take this-“ the blue-haired girl started to break down, but Chloe leaned in immediately and hugged her junior tight, patting her on the back.

“Rena, it’ll be alright. I promise that things will eventually turn out for the better. Let’s believe in the founder, okay? The truth will come out, there’s just no way she’d do something like that.”

“Hmph. I admire your positivity and all senpai, but this doesn’t fix the fact that we’re all screwed since we’ll all be jobless soon-”

“Hey! Don’t say that! Geez, you know what, you two,” she quickly stood up, suddenly invigorated with an idea that just popped in her mind.

Posture straight, Chloe pointed at her juniors, “Maybe this is a wonderful thing in disguise! Let’s all unwind and take a vacation somewhere nice. Like at a beach resort! No buts! If you’re going to be so down about this, then it just means we need to break away from it. We’re not going to forget about it completely and give up but dwelling on it will just drain us.”

The two of them just stared in silence, a bit shocked from the unexpected offer but eventually they looked at each other and nodded.

“W-well if you say so. Rena, we better pitch in with the cost, we can’t let our senior pay for all of that! Hey, are you even listening-“

“Senpai is so amazing, she won’t let anything drag her down!”

Chloe had a huge cheeky grin on her face now that the mood had changed, but if only what the girl said was one-hundred percent true. The brunette regretted glancing at something from across the living room. It was a picture frame; an old photo of her family inside it. For a split-second, she was betrayed by a rare frown before she shook her head and pulled out her phone.

“Hmm...! How do you guys feel about Okinawa?”
_

[ The present ]

The morning flight over was fine, nothing first class as all of them collectively were pushing the limit already by choosing to stay at a high-end resort fit for a summer vacation of their lives. They all sat next to each other, but her and Rena barely got any shuteye because of Kameda’s snoring. Obviously, the two of them didn’t mind since after their little meet-up last month, out of the three of them he was the one that unfortunately got pulled into a lot of police investigation for no reason at all, other than he looked like a thug that could’ve been part of that said villain group.

Chloe didn’t blame them; the police forces were right in being vigilant especially when they still haven’t recovered most of the bombs for that supposed plan. Regardless she felt bad for Kameda and Rena gave her a slightly upset look when they both noticed the lines underneath his eyes were because of that. So, they let him sleep, and spent the time looking out at the view from the plane window or in the blue-haired girl’s case – doodling on a napkin a flight attendant gave her with a novelty pen.

ding dong~

“Passengers. We’ll be arriving shortly. Thank you for choosing our airlines. Enjoy your stay at Okinawa.”
_

“Alright you two! Go ahead and look around for a bit, if you want. I’ll just check in for all of us in the lobby,” Chloe shouted back at them as she heard footsteps move away from her.

As soon as she entered, it was without a doubt crowded.

Eheh~ ...This is going to take a bit, isn't it?

While standing in line, lilac-colored hair caught her eye. It could only belong to one person that she knew, and the familiar face checked out. She gasped, “Wait! Mae! Is that you?!”

Whoever it was, they were in a hurry to get out of here. If she was wrong about who it was then she’d have to start all over again and there were all a lot of people that had gathered up behind her. Chloe made up her mind, she tried to get that person’s attention by waving excitedly but if they were going to exit, she’d give chase.

Katherine paused as she heard someone yelling, not because of the fact they were yelling...But because they called out her last name, causing her to basically freeze in place. Slowly, she turned her head in the direction of the female calling out to her. That red tinted hair with those lime green eyes...Where had she seen that combination before? As her light gems stared at the woman, she started to have a flashback to her times in grade school. There was always that one girl who was with her, always willing to be her friend and hang out with her despite being as quiet as she was...Was that Chloe Naosawa? Wait... her eyes slowly narrowed in thought She's related to Shin Naosawa, isn't she...? I recall her having an older brother... the Hero thought as she continued to relive the moments she had with Chloe. Eating up on the roof in the spring, eating in the classroom in the winter, walking home, visiting each other at their homes. Chloe was Katherine's best friend in grade school, especially for the Hero course.

Hell, Sleepovers were so fun for Kathy, and she never wanted them to end. In fact, Chloe was one of the very tiny few of people who saw her smile at the time... One of her favorite memories were of the one where she had met Shin out in the hallway in the middle of the night, accidentally scaring the shit out of him with her very straight face. At the moment, she tried so hard not to laugh in front of him, so she turned back and went into Chloe's room to giggle with her best friend. Those were the innocent times...times she lowkey missed every day. After high school and the Hero course, Kathy and Chloe had gone separate ways and went to different Agencies. Since then, she wasn't able to see her best friend and thus got lost in her work. Without wasting a moment, she snapped back to reality and walked up to the girl, pausing to continue looking at her.

Of course she wore that goofy smile and right away, that confirmed it all as she suddenly hugged the girl. It wasn't often anyone saw Nexette hugging someone first. Usually it was the other way around. "Chloe, I missed you so much..." she said softly as she rested her head upon her shoulder. "It's been so long since we've seen eachother...How have you been...? Where have you been...?" ( Itsui Itsui Pyosimros Pyosimros )

SHIN NAOSAWA
W/ CHLOE & KATHERINE
Shin stayed in his room for a while longer, even after Ichiro and Ugetsu had already long since left. The man rested on a simple stone grey armchair that sat next to a wide window overlooking the many outdoor activities the resort offered. Periodically he would stare out towards the great expanse that awaited him before abruptly cutting his gaze to stare at his wristwatch, all the while the opposite hand ceaselessly tapped a slow rhythm that could put himself to sleep. Shin felt...uneasy about this "mission". Was it really a vacation? Or was it a cleverly veiled ruse and the agency's true intentions would soon surface.

Shin's eyebrow began to twitch as he soon again began to stare out the very same window he had spent the past half hour peering out of. Perhaps a vacation was overdue and he was overthinking things. After spending months of tireless work, Shin was owed an escape from it all. Though as he sat there, slowly sinking deeper and deeper into his chair, he couldn't help but feel empty. As if without work occupying his mind, he had nothing else to think of.

He let out a heavy sigh, resting his hands on the base of his chest as he stared blankly at the ceiling above. Shin paused for a few seconds, emanating an aura of pure contemplation before, rather abruptly, he rose from the chair and began a quick and determined pace towards the room's exit. The agency's only instructions were to enjoy his vacation, and Shin would achieve that very command. Surely there must be some sort of activity or event that was worthwhile in this resort, anything he could grasp onto as a source of "fun".

This very instruction led Shin on a small journey of his own. He navigated through the halls of the resort, bearing only a serious expression that was perhaps out of place for a luxury resort. The man would focus on nearly everything in his line of sight, anything he could fill his time with. But alas, there hadn't yet been anything that interested him. Though he trudged on, walking down sets of stairs until finally, Shin found himself at the resort's lobby. As he looked out towards the busy lobby, he froze as his eyes immediately caught something. Though it wasn't what he could define as "fun", but rather the opposite of such.

He immediately tensed and in the first time in years, Shin was nervous. His posture began to slouch as his eyes narrowed on two specific individuals. It was Katherine—as expected since she accompanied him—though she was in a deep hug with a very familiar face that belonged to Chloe Naosawa. Katherine alone was something Shin didn't mind the company of, but the two together only meant trouble to the agent. Slowly and carefully he descended the stairs, the confident cadence of his stride now replaced with one of a coward. He was trying to bring less attention to himself, yet ironically enough his awkward pace and walk seemed to only achieve the opposite.

To Shin, he imagined he could simply blend into the crowds, keep his head down and brush past them and into the outside world where he would make his escape. Though in practice, to Shin it was a bit more difficult. With each slow step his heart pounded in his chest and in response, this slow pace started to increase in speed until suddenly, he was walking far faster than he had been before. The quickened pace alongside a lobby full of people only meant a disaster from then on. Nervously he navigated the crowd, his vision obscured as he had essentially shifted his head to only see the ground ahead of him.

His pace accelerated until suddenly, the worst case scenario occurred: Shin's shoulder roughly pressed against Chloe and Katherine. This single instance of physical touch caused the man's heart to sink as he froze, his head instantly turning to the two. Though rather than showing an expression of fear or nervousness, he simply gave the two his usual, blank expression. Only this time his eyes fluttered, as if they were the only conveyance of his true emotions. The only words he could muster was, "Oh, how're you two today?"

Room Shenanigans
Tsukuyomi Hachiman
I AM SPEED
The idea of everyone going to get a massage was more of a hit than the young black haired man thought. Soon after asking the question, Tsukiyomi overheard Shinobu's comments. “Sure! Especially cause you three look like you… hm. Kinda should get one.” Even though the last part was unnecessary, he knew the brat was right. It's the first time in a while that he is forcing himself to take a long-needed break. Shinobu has been with the agency for a month now. Tsuki didn't have enough time to make a full opinion on him, but the kid was a little preppy. He understood where Shinobu was coming from, but he was taught better from Alexander.“Since we mostly seem to be in agreement, we should go soon. Brochure says they close earlier today than usual… Then, we can talk about what to eat later once we’re down there, yeah?” He looked towards the almost 7ft German waiting for his answer. Based on the interaction Tsuki has had with him, Krauss was for the most part cold. Recently, he’s been more convertible and relaxed. They both are coffee enthusiasts and book lovers. This trip could spark a friendship between the two of them. “A massage sure would hit the spot” Seeing that everyone was fully on board with the plans, Tsuki smiled and said, “Great, let me just change my clothes into something more comfortable.”

He grabbed a change of clothes, some cologne, and deodorant from his suitcase. He quickly walked into the bathroom, sat his clothes aside, and began to undress. I wear these damn suits way too much time to spice it up a little bit. I am on vacation and I don't need to look too professional but definitely better than Ichiro. The one-eyed man comes out of the bathroom with a black tank top on with unbuttoned suit jackets with rolled-up sleeves. Combined with a pair of cream pants and a black belt. He knew that this is not what he usually wears, but it's always good to change things up a bit. After putting on his favorite cologne, Tsukuyomi takes off his eyepatch, slipping it in his back pocket. He put on a pair of black sunglasses that completed his look. He came out of the bathroom with a wad that was one of his many suits. He walked to his bed and threw the wad in a plastic bag. “I'm ready to go.” He said with a huge smile. “Jin, I‘ll race you to the elevator.” He knew that he could never beat Jin in a true race, but he also knew Jin would never give him bragging rights either. Jin never has been on his bad side. If he keeps going on his own, it is going to be hard for Tsuki to connect with him. He begins to run out the door in the direction of the elevator. “COME ON JIN LOOKS LIKE I'M GOING TO WIN!!”

"Mm? What is it?" Curious eyes met Charlie's. She looked oddly flabbergasted at the picture... could she have wanted one, too?

"... there’s no way I’m letting you spend your hard-earned money on something so… bad."

Tatsuo froze in her tracks, a stunned countenance spread across her face. Bad... bad... bad... "Bad?!" The phone almost slipped from her hands as several thoughts raced through the shrine-maiden's mind at once. Was Charlie's punk-ish style finally showing itself? Was this the rebellious age that rookies are said to go through?

"W-Whatever could you mean by that?" Notable concern weaved into her voice as she stared wide-eyed at her kouhai. "I thought it was rather cute..."

kouki.jpg
Kouki Kaneko
"...d..........Dad...........DAD."

And suddenly, he was awake, snapping right back to reality as that voice rang in his ears. His heart was beating fast, panicked by his entire body preparing to spring into action, feeling like it was about to leap out of his throat and land on his chest. He turned his head to the sound of the voice, and saw wide golden eyes staring at him intensely, as if they were peering deep into his soul, and his post-nap confusion melted away almost instantly. He remembered where he was. Okinawa, where he had already been for a day and half. A vacation, something he hadn't had in almost half a decade and as such caused him to forget. No undercover work. No protecting the peace. Just a couple days of relaxation with his daughters. He groaned as he laid his head back down. "Machi, who taught you how to wake someone up like that?"

"...You."

Kouki turned his gaze back to the girl, frowning and furrowing his brow in mock confusion. "Me? Your caring, loving, respectful, greatest father you've ever had? Awaken you when you're running late for school because he only has your best interests in mind with such a jarring voice? My word, I can't believe I could've done something so incredibly horrible to you all these years. Next you'll say my cooking is lousy and you don't want me around your friends. You truly are growing up. That hurts your old man's feelings. Dearly." He did his best to hide his grin behind a trembling lip, but it was difficult as he saw Machi's own lips begin to curl into a slight smile.

"Dad, you're the only dad I've ever had. And your cooking is lousy, without our help." She pointed over her shoulder to Suzume, who was walking back from farther down the beach, making her way around the people with nimble movements. Once she was close enough, she raised an eyebrow at the two of them. "Is he being dramatic again?" Machi simply nodded and Kouki let loose a hearty laugh, which attracted a few stares and glares from other beach-goers looking for some relaxation. The Kaneko family paid them no mind, though, as they all began to share a laugh together. Once they were done and out of breath, Kouki allowed himself to bring some air into his lungs as he looked up to the sky where the sun shone down, warming his skin.

"How long was I asleep?"

"Long enough that you're late meeting those people you were supposed to. I tried waking you up, but I don't think you heard me, so I left Machi here to look after you while I tried to see if I could find any of them. But this place is just so big. Marma-Lad is really okay with paying for this whole trip, right?" Suzume's face was twisted into a look of worry, and she gripped her arms together tightly. Kouki could understand her nerves. Aside from not having the time, money was also something that was a bit tight at times, between paying for Suzume to go to the hero academy in Kobe and saving up for Machi to attend any high school she wanted to. Machi never seemed to notice, but Suzume was at least somewhat aware of some of the difficulties they faced.

He smothered the pang of guilt that had suddenly stabbed through his heart at the sight of his daughter's worried gaze and just gave her a wide smile. "You kidding? He practically begged for me to take you two out here. A breath of relief from exams and commuting to school isn't so bad once in a while, and I could use a break from having to save kittens from trees, too. I plan on enjoying a nice massage before this trip is over. Of course, I there's a bit of business to attend to with this other Agency..."

Of all people at the Agency: True Blue, Piston, Buzzer, Ironclad, as well as others, he was still unsure why he was singled out to take up the role of providing aid to the popular Eagle Agency. He was easily the oldest hero from his home agency that still worked patrolling the city, though he was still fit and able to move about easily despite that. Maybe it was his tenure? Or the fact that he had been able to fit in well with Marma-Lad and the others despite his previous post in the mountains? Whatever it was, he trusted Marma-Lads justice. And who wouldn't lend a helping hand out to another hero-or heroes-in need.

"Speaking of them, I should probably try my luck at finding those young folks. Machi, Suzume, could you two be some dears and...dig me out of here?" He wiggled his toes beneath the warm grains of sand, shifting them slightly. Machi must have gotten bored while he had been napping.

~~~
Kouki was still shaking his legs as he walked,, trying to get any itty bits of sand and shattered shells out of his trousers that had found their way up there while he was resting. Machi and Suzume had gone off to the arcade to try their luck at some games, and Kouki wished he could have joined them, if at least to watch. He was unsure when the next time he could spend time with them was, especially now that he would have to move in order to be closer to his temporary Agency. In order to relieve their stress, he decided they should stay in Kobe, since a six hour commute by train didn't sound reasonable. Machi was excited for it, but Suzume had voiced her concerns before coming around to the idea after some convincing.
Sadly, that was the reality of his work position as a hero. He had to make difficult decisions, personal and professional. All he could do was make them with a grin on his lips. And he wore that same grin as he received a few strange looks for his odd movements, leaving a couple specks of sand behind him every once in a while. He appreciated the fact he wasn't well-known outside of Takayama, not being bombarded by the weight if keeping up an image. Right now, he was just an old man on vacation with a bit of business to attend to. Now, if he was a group of heroes off duty after a crushing failure of a mission, where would he go to unwind and forget the bitter taste of defeat?
A bar, of course.
And so he made his way to the beach-side bar he had stopped at his first night. As he stepped onto the wooden deck, he received a couple waves and hoisted drinks, some patrons apparently remembering him from the previous night of late night drinking. He returned the gestures before approaching the bartender. After some careful thought, he simply ordered a cheap stout, taking a quick swig of the cold beer to cool off from the sun beating down on him. He placed a few yen coins on the table before turning back to look at all the faces in the bar. Old men and their young wives, college students looking for a quick midday drink, business men on their phones that were unable to escape their jobs completely. It was easier to group folks during the day, when most people were still nursing hangovers from the previous night. There were a couple new faces, but none that readily stood out among the others.
Well, except one, though it wasn't his face that stood out to Kouki at first. Instead it was the three expensive drinks he had sat in front of him as he looked out to the ocean. Now, it could just be that the other two drinks were for his friends or something, but they didn't seem to even be touched yet. Who orders a drink and doesn't take a sip before leaving it if they really have to? And so, that meant that there must be something on the young man's mind. Kouki's mouth twitched, before it broke into a charming smile as he walked over to the boy's table.
Once there, he grabbed one of the open seats, letting out a sharp sigh as he placed himself in it. "Man, it really is tough to beat the beauty of the open ocean. So much water, stretching out for miles and miles. It seems almost endless, and it's deeper than we could probably even imagine. Honestly, I get goosebumps just thinking about it." He shivered, and held out his forearm, where indeed bumps had appeared. "Me? Ill take the mountains any day. They can only go so high, and in most cases, from a distance, they just seem small. Like its something easy to just, hop over, right?" He took another sip of his beer, letting out another sigh, this one of satisfaction as the cool liquid ran down his throat, before he turned his smile to the man, and held out a calloused hand. "Pardon, I didn't introduce myself. The name is Kaneko. Kouki Kaneko. I work for the Marma-Lad Agency in Kobe. Unless I'm mistaken or you're a damn-near complete doppelganger, you must be Ichiro Kusumoto, or 'Karate King'. Its an honor and a pleasure."
Ichiro was almost finished with his drink when he was approached by an unfamiliar man, making him put his pina colada down temporarily. He watched the ocean briefly before bringing his attention back to his drink, taking a few sips from it. The man then went on about the ocean and how he preferred the mountains. Ichiro wanted to be alone but even he couldn't catch a break on vacation. "Kouki Kaneko... can't say that I've heard of you." He finished his first pina colada, picking up another one to bring to his lips, "Nobody calls me 'Karate King' anymore, Ichiro will be fine." He turned to give him a firm handshake and to get a good look at him. He clearly looked out of his prime, but he can respect the hustle. "And as for the mountains, I can't say that I share your fondness of them. Constantly living in a city never allowed me to appreciate things like that."
Ichiro took another small sip from his pina colada before continuing, "What brings you here? If you have watched T.V in the last month you could take a good guess as to why I'm here." Ichiro fiddled with the straw, trying to keep his mind off the event that had transpired. Ichiro looked down at Kouki's hand, staring at the beer he was drinking, "You actually drink that stuff? That is just like that American piss beer they sell."
He didn't have many things he could talk about or things he wanted to talk about. Alcohol was one thing he didn't care to give his mind on. "I can't drink beer anymore; I always end up drinking too much of it whenever it gets into my hands. I just stick with hard liquors or mixed drinks, it's much more appealing to my palette."
The lilac-haired woman heard her hopeful shouts and walked up to her, and in an instant, Chloe found herself wrapped in a warm embrace. Her eyes widened in surprise as the brunette listened to the words of her long-time best friend, Katherine. Murmuring about how it’s been so long and that she missed her so much. The brunette smiled at hearing everything, even the sound of her voice was enough to form tears in the corner of her eyes. She looked up at the ceiling and tried not to let them go down her face so people wouldn’t notice she was crying, although really, Chloe didn’t mind; at least this time it was out of joy and not hurt.
The slight shock from being hugged first, more so from Katherine who many people viewed as distant and aloof, immediately wore off. Instead, it turned into a comforting feeling she hadn’t known for a long time since graduating. With that, Chloe toned down the sickly-sweet happy-go-luckiness since she knew Katherine would pick up on it since her perception of things was very high. Plus, she would never let that slide acting that way around her, and the brunette was appreciative of the fact. The closest she could be herself was with her best friend, as it should be.
Chloe finished hugging her and gestured for the two of them to move away from the line. She’d have to apologize to her juniors later for getting sidetracked, maybe treat them out to dinner or something to make up for it. Or! She could introduce them to Katherine? She could do both! She’d knock out two birds with one stone that way. Good idea, way to go Chloe!
Saving the thought for later, her eyes lit up as memories of fun times resurfaced in her mind, of course she would recognize Katherine in an instant. Although how they lost connection was a story for another time, “Mae! I… I just knew it had to be you~ Gosh, it has been a while. There’s so much I have to get you caught up on-“
Then as if a book filled with plenty of twists, something unexpected was around the corner. A firm nudge was only what it took to grab her attention away from this happy occasion. There was no denying who it was when she turned around.
“Oh, how're you two today?"
Despite recognizing that it was her brother, it felt like she was facing a stranger. Perhaps she was. It wouldn’t have been a lie to say that she barely knew him despite being blood. Their relationship on the surface seemed ordinary to most people, but she had to guess if anyone noticed anything it would've been Katherine. But there was nothing ever exchanged on the matter between the two girls and Chloe more or less wanted to keep it that way. So as if things weren’t disrupted at all, she continued in a happy, carefree flow, "Ne~ What a small world. To think that of all the resorts that I could've picked, my best friend and brother are in the same one that I’m staying in! ...”
Chloe frantically thought on how to dispel any awkwardness in the air, simultaneously trying to resist the temptation to turn into a puppet and wait for Rena or Kameda to come check on her.
“Wait! T-this isn’t by any chance your guys’ honeymoon, is it? My, my, I wouldn’t want to get in the way now,” she teased lightheartedly, flashing a bright smile; completely sidestepping Shin's question. It didn't seem like he was genuinely curious on how she was doing anyway, if he was, this would've been the first. Silently unlocking her phone behind her back, the brunette stealthily typed in three important letters in the group chat she and her two juniors made: SOS.
Charlie blinked back over to the fellow hero, her expression deadpan as she spoke, "Yeah, it's cute, alright. Cute for a grandma with one foot in the grave." She sighed, giving one last, pitiful look to the photo on the Maiden's phone before beginning to walk further down the hall, blue eyes searching for some kind of shop to save this woman behind her.
The rookie spoke up, knowing that it would take a second for Tatsuo to catch up, "Don't take it personally, but it's worse than bad. That's sin."
It didn't take long for the two heroes to run into a beachwear store. Most of it was full of cheesy merchandise geared towards tourists, but the back wall was covered top to bottom with different bathing suits of all shapes and sizes. Once the pair reached their desired destination, Charlie turned to face Tatsuo, resting both hands on her hips.
"Alright. Time for the fun part. See anything you like?"
Katherine pulled back a little bit, glancing at who happened to bump into the pair. It was Shin, who seemed to look fine despite the bump. But his fluttering eyes made it quite obvious to the lilac-haired woman that he was awkward with what just happened. Chloe was obviously excited, but it seemed to have shifted when she addressed him. It didn't take long for that to change as she suddenly assumed that she was on a honeymoon with her brother. A sigh escaped her lips as she shook her head "No... We are on a company trip... I'm not sure why you'd assume we were even married to begin with..." honestly, Katherine was the worst when it came to relationships just because she found no one worthy, on top of rarely ever being approached legitimately. "You know very well that I'm not the best with those types of situations..." breaking the hug entirely, she glanced between Shin and Chloe "We can catch up later on when you're all settled, Chloe... I'm going to head out for a bit..."
Giving her old best friend a small wave, she watched as the girl went back into line happily and Kathy herself shifted her eyes back to Shin "Your sister hasn't changed... I'm still surprised she thought we were married...surely after I scared the living hell out of you that one sleepover, I had scarred you for life..." with a small shrug, she began to make her way towards the door, in hopes that she would remember what in the world she was going to do. If Shin joined her, she may go on ahead to the nearest gift shops, or perhaps a small convenience store and get them a can of...Something. Whatever he liked. Currently, her idea of this trip was being a "vacation", and had no intentions of starting any romantic relationships with any of her coworkers. But since Chloe planted that Idea in her head, it bothered her and all the Hero could do was huff quietly. What a silly idea that she brought up.
The sound of gunfire could be heard reverberating through the walls of Freed's dark and decrepit studio flat, the stench of death and decay permeating through each and every small orifice of an opening that was readily available. Stashed away in the corner of this 504 sq ft flat conveniently located three train stops way from the Eagle Agency was the ghostly pale and thin frame of Freed, his surroundings illuminated by the ever sporadic changes of light coming from his television screen as well as the blue glow that radiated off of his hair. Gripped tightly within both of the lanky figures hands was a black console controller, thin bony fingers dancing away at the controls as amber colored eyes remained fixed upon the television screen. The scenes of gore and warfare reflected upon his shimmering gold irises as he lost himself to the fantasy world of his game.
"That's it! That's it! That's It!" shouted Freed, his finger violently pressing the upper right most button of the controller; the sound emanating from his TV reminiscent to the sound of a rifle being shot in short consecutive burst fire. "Take that you son of a bitch!" shouted Freed, "You sad excuse for a gamer!! how do you like me now? Huh!?! You snot nosed brat! You thought you were some badass after that lucky ass headshot on me?!... Well take that!" continued Freed, his body rocking back and forth in his furore. A side of Freed rarely exposed to the outside world was now in full glory; the freedom to be himself within his dark and confined palace of solace was a luxury that he had engorged himself on for the last couple of weeks "How about a parting gift? Haha!" he gleefully continued as his character began to unceremoniously 'T-bag' the fallen enemy sprawled across his Television screen. A classic case of 'behind the screen bravado'. Freed for a long time now had become quite the toxic gamer, an individual characterized by their frequent bouts of flaming and trash talk.
This day in particular had Freed on edge, the blue haired man being on the 3rd day of his 3 day gaming marathon for this particular game. A lack of sleep, followed by a concoction of coffee, red bull and pure adrenaline had made him quite the edgy individual, so his toxicity today was even more intense than usual. Truthfully, It was almost a medical miracle that his body had not given up on him; though considering the intense aroma permeating from his room it wouldn't have been that surprising if there really had been dead body buried underneath the squalor. Needless to say, personal hygiene had been sacrificed during this 3 day gaming session in favor of maximizing his game time; his only real breaks being for food, short naps and the toilet.
"Oh hell Yeah!!! Victory!... You plebeians should thank me for hard carrying you through this match!" shouted Freed, as the large 'Victory' message appeared across his screen and the small 'MVP' icon appeared next to his in-game moniker 'BlueÐemon'. Freed tossed the controller to his side, the device bouncing against a bag of rubbish before hitting the floor as the man fell to his back, a wide grin spread across his face as his eyes met with his ceiling. With that victory, he had managed to make it into the Platinum rank; a rank reserved for the games best players from the region and a rank that certified his in-game talent and status as one of the elites in the server. A monumental accomplishment for the avid gamer, yet something so trivial within the real world; a world that Freed himself held very little value for.
A social outcast and a shut in, Freed's dorm room was located at the furthest end of the 3rd floor of this apartment block, isolated from the others due to his undesirable tendencies to make too much noise as well as the strange smells that tend to pervade the immediate area outside of his room; especially during his marathons. Sighing as he turned his head towards the clock hung against the adjacent wall, Freed during this rare break between matches had vaguely remembered today's real world event. It was the last 'free' day he had before he would be completely 'cut-off' from the joint bank account he shared with his parents; a temporary account that would cease functioning if Freed didn't show evidence of actively applying for a job of his own.
*Tsk* clicked Freed as he fell upon his back; his eyes lazily staring up towards the slow spinning ceiling fan that hung ominously above. "Fuck... seriously...It's already doomsday..." he muttered to himself, glancing towards his wardrobe where a suit hung neatly; the attire spared the mercy of the room's stench thanks to a plastic cover that covered its entirety. Taped safely against the plastic cover was a note that read
'To our beloved Son,
This is your father's suit. Make sure to wear it when you attend your interviews for your first job. It's important to make a good first impression if you want to land a decent job and salary. Don't forget, xx/xx/xxxx is the last day before we remove your access to the joint bank account. If you wan't to continue funding that lifestyle of yours.. you're going to need your own source of income.
So good luck, Wishing you the best.
Love, Mom and Dad xoxo'
Forcing himself up onto his feet, Freed waded his way through the mess in his room and made his way towards the desk drawer in his room where he began to search for a fresh pair of underwear before reaching out to grasp the suit. Alas, when he did raise his arm to grab a shirt; the smell that would hit him soon after would send him tumbling back down onto his ass.
A shower was well overdue.
Upon the group’s unanimous agreement, Tsukuyomi noted that he was going to change into more appropriate attire, which prompted Shinobu to do the same. Considering the group was told that they were being sent out on a mission at first, it made more sense to be in hero garb, but now that Eagle’s true intentions had been revealed, the albino was quick to decide he didn’t want to walk around Okinawa in something that’d likely give him heatstroke. Hmm… It’s almost time for summer uniforms, now that I think about it! I should probably come up with something before then.
After Shinobu changed into something more casual, he had to squint his eyes to see Tsukuyomi who dashed to the far side of the hallway, yelling something about racing Jin and how he was going to win. Didn’t expect him to be the type to start that kind of thing… But wait. Crystalline hues scanned the area in apparent confusion, first landing on Krauss' form before settling on…
on…?
“Eh? Wasn’t there supposed to be a furry here…” he uttered to himself, walking to catch up to the black-haired male. “Jeez―you can’t just stop existing when you’re the one who suggested the spa to begin with…” I wonder where he could've run off to.
Since the spa was located in a different part of the resort, it’d end up taking the trio a few minutes to get there. Because of this, Shinobu opted to call his sister like he promised, granted on the surface it only really consisted of them insulting each other in a way that made it hard to tell if they were messing around or not (“The beach? What, don’t tell me you’re actually gonna go swimming, bot. The only thing you’d do there is burn.” “Ah. Nao-tan, I didn’t know you wanted to die (see: to be killed) so badly. You know, we’re here for you if you ever need someone to talk to! (:” “Drown.” “No, seriously. Please seek therapy. Your hatred towards me isn’t normal.”).
… Well, at least until the call ended; judging by the way his visage held an expression of content, the pinkette’s words didn’t seem to mean much, and the same could probably be said about his own. Probably.
After several moments of nothing, azure irises peeked at Tsukuyomi from behind those signature shades of his. “Y’know, even though we’ve been colleagues for about a month now, we haven’t really talked much since back then, and…” his gaze then wandered to the blond. “Even less so for you and the others. Lemme see…” Perhaps the vacation was thrown upon them for the sake of their personal wellbeing, but the fact that all of them went as a team felt like it had some kind of underlying purpose as well. It may not have been intended, though at the end of the day, if they were to get to know each other, now would be the time, right…?
“Hmm ~ If you don’t mind me asking, what made you guys wanna be heroes, anyway?”
『 TAGGED 』Interaction: Mentions: SO MANY
Alright, the good news is that there was a seaside bistro ran by the hotel with plenty of variety on the meat side of the menu, the bad news is that apparently there was a rule that forbade hotel guests from purchasing any of the raw products. Said rule was so set in stone in fact that Nakano was unable to utilize her...charming persuasion skills to get any of her desired snacks. Granted, she could've dialed up the agression meter enough to get her preferred food through more physical means, however after all the shit that had taken place these past months the last thing she needed was to get kicked from the resort this early on. In the end Nakano settled for a VERY generously sized shrimp cocktail that would, hopefully, keep her hunger at bay.
With a sizeable snack now on hand and most of her rage left back at the bar counter Nakano made her way down to the beach. Finally, after all this time, she had some proper peace and quiet away from her teammates. Mind you, it's not like she hated being around them, it's just that after a while she needed to get away from Tsukuyomi's bourgee-ness, Ichiro's very existence, Kat's dullness, Tatsuo's Ed Sheeran side, Charlie's attitude as a whole, Shinobu's everything, Ugetsu's perfection and Karuss' dullness (pt2). You know, just some simple & surface stuff. Anyways, Nakano was happy to see that down by the beach the hotel had provided a fair number of lounge chairs for the guests, most of which remained unused. Setting down the cocktail by the accompanying table the tiger girl commenced her session of relaxation vía sunbathing. Oh, had she covered herself with sunscreen beforehand? Eeeh, probably.
Krauss - The Specialist
Location: Resort
The blond haired German heard Tsukuyomi’s jovial challenge with his immutable poker face, watching the man’s back getting smaller by each second, as he made his way in a furious dash towards the elevator. Twisting his head to the side slightly, he wondered about the man’s strange actions, when he turned his head to see the one that was challenged, the furred male, was nowhere to be seen. How was that even possible? Krauss was pretty sure he was sharp as always, so he could only wonder, where did the bunny scurry off to?
Nevertheless, the man made his way to the lift as well, getting in it just before Shinobu, having his back against the lift wall just besides the panel. When the albino man got in it, the Specialist simply hit the button to force the lift’s door closed and the ground floor button in quick succession, leaving no chance for room for contest by the two other heroes. When the lift started moving downwards, a catchy music began to on the background. It wasn’t as if it was overpowering the other sounds, but it was audible enough that it couldn’t be outright ignored.
“I am pretty sure one of the reasons we haven’t talked that much was the result of the last mission” - the shooter was cut and dry as always. The words left his mouth in a monotone, his face being expressionless as he said that. But then there was the next question: why did the German want to become a hero? - “I suppose, with a quirk like mine, either I became a hero or a hitman. The former just had more appeal to me than the latter, morally speaking” - his green-glassed spectacles peered into ( poi poi ) Shinobu’s shades. One could expect a punch-line for what the Westerner had just said, but there was nothing after he had finished giving his answer.
On the way down, the Hofstadter wondered if he should get a gin and tonic from the bar. If the order was to relax, he might as well go all the way in. His gaze then turned towards the black-haired ( StealthyShades StealthyShades ) hero, waiting for his own answer on why he had became a hero.
SHIN NAOSAWA
W/ CHLOE & KATHERINE
Following Shin's arrival the atmosphere of the conversation immediately shifted. As Chloe began to frantically search for any possible way to navigate through the awkward tension he had brought, Shin himself sought to escape from the interaction altogether. His gaze subtly drifting back and forth, searching for any suitable excuse to suddenly leave the conversation.
“Wait! T-this isn’t by any chance your guys’ honeymoon, is it? My, my, I wouldn’t want to get in the way now."
Shin's focus immediately snapped back to Chloe, his eyes slightly narrowing. "No, it's nothing like that," he curtly replied, crossing his arms. His tone was less neutral and more annoyed at this point; it was a sort of childish intolerance he had towards his sibling's constant teasing during the rare moments they interacted with one another. Frankly in the majority of circumstances, Chloe often tried to lighten the mood of situations or at the very least push Shin into interacting more frequently, though in return he often never reciprocated her cheerful demeanour.
Katherine later followed Shin's reply, explaining the nature of their visit with more depth. Shin simply nodded along, and as she finished speaking, the conversation seemed to immediately break off. She broke the hug with Chloe and mentioned that she needed to leave, and judging by her expression she wanted Shin to follow.
"I should get going as well. It was nice seeing you again though," Shin gave Chloe a simple wave as he watched as her queue into the lobby's line once more.
"Your sister hasn't changed... I'm still surprised she thought we were married...surely after I scared the living hell out of you that one sleepover, I had scarred you for life..."
"Honestly, I'm not sure if she event believed it herself," Shin murmured, following Katherine as she began to exit the lobby. Her reminder of the sleepover was something the man would rather forget, and so he chose to silently dodge the subject. "So where were you planning to visit? We could text Chloe later to follow us if you wanted."
Kouki Kaneko
Kouki nodded along as Ichiro spoke, barely fazed at his jab at the older man's choice in beverage. It wasn't a surprising comment, something he had heard plenty throughout the years, and it certainly didn't catch him off guard when he saw the type and amount of alcohol the younger man had. But who was he to judge? Big city Heroes definitely made more money, even when compared to Kouki's own salary more than a decade ago. Once the man was done speaking, Kaneko chuckled as he held the bottle up, the sun shining creating a dim light from the dull brown bottle. "A little trick I learned from younger years is that it doesn't matter what's in the glass. With enough of it, it can get you to the exact place you want to be. A light buzz or a full-blown morning of regret, and any state in between. So why not save a little bit of cash on the journey? Never know what the future holds."
He placed the bottle onto his knee as he proceeded to speak again. "I'm not too surprised you haven't heard of me. I'm passed my time of making splashes on the street, taking down the bad guys with a grin on my face. I've taken a step back to let others, who are more capable than I am now, take on those responsibilities. Doesn't help that I was more of a local hero before migrating to the city. But still, I was a pretty dashing young savior of the innocent when I was your age. As for why I'm here? I have a big assignment coming up, and Marma-Lad decided I could use some time off with my family before I was relocated again. Sometimes commutes can be a real bitch, so I want to make sure I make the most of my time here."
His smile waned slightly. "Television only ever gives half the story, Ichiro. People talk, stories are made, papers are printed, all saying some variation of the same thing. Of course I got a bit of a better explanation from Marma-Lad as to what happened. Hero business isn't just about saving kittens and helping old ladies cross the street. You and the rest of your comrades know that already, and better than most right now. There's dangers that come with it. One person standing right next to you could be gone when you look back to them, and the next thing you know..." He reached up to his face, rubbing the bandage that covered much of the left side of his face. "It's tough work. It's draining. Physically and mentally. Best we can do is to push through it, strive to do better, save the ones we can." He paused, as if mulling over what he had just said in his own mind.
It didn't take long for his face to brighten up again, shaking his head. "Look at me, bringing down the mood! I didn't mean to get serious there, my friend. You're here to enjoy a vacation, to take your mind off of things." He lifted his drink up in Ichiro's direction. "Learn from the past. Don't dwell on the future. Live in the present." He then brought his drink back to his lips, downing it in one go. Once all that was left in the bottle was foam, he let out a muffled belch before placing his bottle down. "I will say, a cold drink on a warm day really does hit the spot! Tell me, since you seem to have a high regard for alcohol, what would you recommend? Seeing you drink those flashy drinks is making me feel a bit more adventurous today. Don't knock me on my ass, though, or else my daughter's'll give me hell when I come stumbling back up to my room!"
Alexzander I miss you old friend
The sound of designer shoes fill the hall as the young man runs towards the elevator with the thought of victory rolling in his head. He turns around and sees that his furry friend was not behind him. Did He not hear me pass me? An embarrassed looked embedded on to his face when he saw Mr. Cottontail wasn’t behind him. His friends judged him in the distance.
He retreats into the elevator trying to forget that he clearly embarrassed himself in front of his colleagues. Once everyone got in the metal box, Tsukuyomi tried to forget the last five seconds. He knew that he was not acting like himself. He is allowed to be outgoing but not like that. That was not him at all.
Soon the silence was broken from a combination of an instrumental version of some sort of song and Shinobu’s voice. “Y’know, even though we’ve been colleagues for about a month now, we haven’t really talked much since back then, and…" he didn’t remember much of that day. When you’re bleeding out on the floor you usually don’t try to remember the details. "If you don’t mind me asking, what made you guys wanna be heroes, anyway?” He looked towards the German as he gave his answer. “Well, I’m glad that you are on our side”.
After a little bit of silence, his coworkers looked towards him waiting for his answer. He took a deep breath Choosing his words carefully. "Listen, a month isn’t enough for you to know my reasonings. But so you don't ask me a second time, the reason I became a hero is because..” A deafening binging sounds and the door opens. A group of 5 people joined the 3 of them and talked loud as hell, so loud that no one heard Tuski’s answer. Ah..yes… my favorite people.. He rolled his eyes. …Spring breakers..
"Now, Eagle looked into as much as he could about you. So far you seem to be someone he very much values." said Ichika as she looked through a file on the coffee table before closing it and leaning back in her seat. The pair were in her personal office, one that contained many filing cabinets (locked), bookshelves, and even had a set of couches with a table in between. It was obvious she had to be the head honcho of the staff aside from Eagle. She ran the filing, the personal and confidential paperwork. Behind her desk was a large window that looked out to the city and let in a lot of natural light, making it easier to see each other with ease. "Especially since you proved to be such a threat towards the Political parties." crossing one leg over the other, she placed her hands in her lap "See, while others see you as a threat, Eagle sees you as someone with talent, potential." her eyes had locked with Armels' and never broke the connection. "He takes risks in many of the people he recruits here. He believes in everyone within this building."
Taking in a deep breath, she put her leg down and leaned forward a little "You have yet to meet the team he has. But once you do, surely you'll be able to fit in perfectly well. Especially with that quirk of yours." opening the file, she broke the eye contact and looked through to his quirk "You could even learn new skills aside from the ones you have now." with a slight shrug, she stood up and scooped the file from the table before moving towards her desk. "While the rest of the higher tier Heroes are on their vacation, you'll be here in the office doing some special work for Eagle." putting the file into her desk, she pressed her palms to the surface and leaned on them "He's already prepared plenty of work for you if you ever wanted to tackle it. But for right now, we're going to take a walk around the building, and then we can possibly get to training you on the programs we use. Do you have any questions at all for me before we take a tour?"
Akari Handa - Hiring Manager
Akari had been waiting at the front entrance of the Eagle Agency. Why? Well because she had a scheduled Interview that was to take place shortly. Taking a glance down at the folder in her hands, she looked inside and took a good look at the portrait of the person she'd be interviewing. Freed D. Cross. A blue-haired male with bright amber eyes that could burn into anyone's soul. With a soft sigh, her attention was caught as someone walked through the door. Come to see it was Freed himself in a suit, making himself look very spiffy for the interview. At least he takes this very seriously. "Mister Cross?" she called as she approached "I'm Akari, I'll be interviewing you today. Will you please follow me?" she asked, though didn't wait for a reply as she turned on her heels and began to lead the way to an empty meeting room. "Pick anywhere you'd like to sit." with that, she took her own seat on the edge and placed the folder in front of her.
Once he had taken his seat, she cleared her throat and spoke "Now this won't be your ordinary interview. Eagle takes his interviews very seriously -Unless by any chance he decides to spontaneously hire someone..." she muttered the last part as she shook her head "Now you are aware that you're joining one of the top Agencies out there with a good handful of Heroes." she pointed out. "We would run a test on your quirk just as we do everyone else. It helps us determine if you're good enough for the job, but..." she opened the folder and looked inside, seeing that he had no work history under his belt, making her almost sigh "You have no work history. What makes you think you'd be a good addition to the agency?" the woman said with a tilt of her head "Would you be able to prove that you are very well fit for the job?"
Britt-21 Britt-21 [Akari]
Showered and dressed for success, Freed already feeling his body itch from the tight confines of his fathers suit had found himself standing in front of the door. His face deadpan as two amber eyes began to bore holes into the rusty doorknob that had been locked shut for the last week and a half. It was the final barrier that protected him from the outside world and sealed him away in his cavern of darkness, his kingdom of solitude. To many people this object before Freed was merely a door; a standard object that they would normally pay very little heed to, yet for this blue haired man it was the last line of defence, the final hurdle to overcome before he'd have to step foot into a world that has thus far shown little love for him. Freed gulped, his right arm raised yet stopping short of grasping the door's handle; beads of sweat forming on the brow of Freed as he gulped deeply.
'Open it... just fucking open it... it's a door... its only a bloody damn door... If I dont... I wont...I wont have money for the new expansion pack....' Freed thought to himself, a futile attempt to motivate himself to step outside into the real world.
5 minutes would pass and Freed would remain rooted to the spot, his right hand now scratching away at the upper portion of his left arm; still no attempt to open the door was made. Another 5 would slowly tick by and now his left arm scratched away at the upper portion of his right arm. A further 5 minutes found Freed sat on his ass, his back pressed against his side of the door as both hands held firm onto the old phone his parents had gifted him a few years ago. A cracked screen did little to stop Freed from watching the trailer of the upcoming expansion pack, a glimmer of life visible in his dead fish eyes as he watched the trailer for what must have been the umpteenth time since its release.
A knock sudddenly echoed from the otherside of his last bastion of defence, the shock causing Freed to fumble the phone in his hands as he clambered forward on all foors to get away from the sudden banging. "Oi Freed... can you hear me?!... Oi!... Freed!... I know you're inside!... I've been watching the door for the last 20 minutes... Freed.. Damn it... Open the damn door before I kick it down!..." came the familiar voice of one of his neighbours. "Listen god damn it... Your parents asked me to make sure you left for your interview today... and I'll be damned if I have to ring them up to tell them that their one and only son had failed to meet his end of the promise... ya hear me!" the man now kicking the door with his feet as if to emphasize his point. "Now you get your god damn ass outta here and I'll give you a lift to the agency... You're already twenty minutes late!"
Freed meanwhile was cowered in the far corner of his room; his fingers grasping onto his phone as both hands shook from the sudden invasion of his privacy; even if they had yet to break into his castle. The number for the local authorities was already visible on his screen as Freed debated on whether or not he should call the police over to deal with the disturbance outside his front door... alas, Freed would not take up that path. From past experience, he was well aware that getting the cops involved with this particular individual would prove to be a waste of time and just more hassle for himself.
"Freed!... I'm going to count to three and if you aren't outta here by three I am coming inside. 1..." Freed began to stand up slowly and make his way towards the door. "...2..." Freed reached for the handle of the door, knowing that the beast standing outside was not one to make empty threats. "...3... Hyah!" Freed opened the door only to have a big muscular foot meet him square in the ribs; the force sending him flying backwards to the other end of the room, right through the tower of empty ramen cups he had made over the last week and right into the wall opposite the door. Freed was out of it.
He'd awaken to find himself triple strapped in to the front passenger side seat of his neighbours car, his legs bound and his mouth taped to prevent him from voicing any complaints. Such measures were necessary if his neighbour was to get him to the eagle agency in time for the interview and without feeling the need to personally dispose of the loud whinging that would have undoubtedly occurred had he not sealed up Freeds mouth.
"Listen Freed... This is a renowned agency you have applied for. Not many in your situation would even have the right to apply for a position like this. I still can't fathom what even possessed you to consider applying to the Eagle Agency... given your lack of work experience... and well.. your condition. But, you've managed to get an interview... so you best make good use out of this fortunate opportunity" his neighbour glanced to the side to where Freed sat as he spoke. Having stopped at a red light, Freed's presently bound up position was visible for the car parallel to theirs; though even if Freed's eyes were pleading for release, the civilians in the car over merely glanced away... not wanting to get involved in what was an obvious case of kidnapping.
"Are you listening Freed?... You better land this job... If I have to spend another whole day listening to your damn shouting through the walls... I might just have to commit a crime.. You understand right?"
Freed nodded, wishing that this nightmare would end.
They'd eventually come to a stop a block over from where the Eagle Agency was located, Freed finally being unbound and ushered out of the car. "Freed look at me. You understand what will happen right?" his neighbour reinforced; Freed wincing away at the threat as he stepped out of the car and into the heat of the outside world.
Already Freed begun to feel uncomfortable, exposed to the outside world and under the watchful eye of the sun above. Almost immediately he would hunch over in an attempt to make himself less noticeable to everyone else around; the man sticking to inside of the pavement as he hugged the building next to him. "Damn it damn it damn it" he'd stutter to himself as he slowly made his way towards the Agency; his face lowered so that he made no eye contact with anyone in particular. "Just one step at a time... left foot forward, right foot forward...left foot..."
"Mister Cross?" came a voice, and almost instantly, Freed froze. "...yes..." he replied meekly. "I'm Akari, I'll be interviewing you today. Will you please follow me?" Freed nodded and obliged, following the woman into the building. At least by following her he wouldn't have to be outside in the wilderness of society. He'd manage somehow if it was just him and her in a room.
Finding a spot opposite of where Akari sat, Freed would do his best to remember the advice given by his parents. This meant sitting up right in the chair, even if his body protested to the absurd and unfamiliar posture. As his interviewer began to speak, Freed struggling to maintain eye contact with her would begin to fidget in the seat, both hands pressed against his upper thigh as they tapped away nervously, his head nodding every so now and then to acknowledge what Akari had said.
Beads of sweat were beginning to form on his brow as his nerves and discomfort threatened to boil over. The sound of the clock's ticking getting unbearably loud and repetitive as time slowly ticked by. Freed had only just come to the realization that he was locked in a room with a woman; the two of them alone in this small space. Would he even be able to speak in such circumstances?... If he couldn't speak... would he still get the job?... If he doesn't get the job... what ill fate awaits him?... What about his expansion pack?....
"You have no work history. What makes you think you'd be a good addition to the agency? Would you be able to prove that you are very well fit for the job?"
The room went silent as Freed felt the woman's gaze upon him; predator watching prey. the pace of his heart quickening as he felt completely exposed and vulnerable at this moment. "I.. I.. I...I..." he stuttered, his fingers now painfully digging into the flesh of his thighs as he tried desperately to overcome this stumbling point."I... I.. I.. I.. I reaally need a job for rent!"... he stated bluntly; his hair suddenly coming to life as if a match had been lit. Almost immediately several blue orbs would begin to form; the length of his hair shortening with each and every new Wisp that came into existence. As more and more begun to fill the room, the few that had manifested itself first would begin to first take on the guise of Willo. As a trio of these imitations took form, they would slowly begin to walk to where Akari sat, their eyes studying the woman with great detail down to the smallest of spots on her exposed skin. With that information absorbed and relayed back to Willo, a couple of the blue wisp orbs that still floated in the room would soon begin to morph and take their own shape, taking on the exact appearance of the lady interviewer down to the smallest detail.
"Waist size: xx... height: xx... Bust size: xx. Butt: xx" the Akari imitations would begin to say in Unison. Their voice similar to Freed's yet coming out of the mouth of these Akari replica's.
Opposite Akari amidst a group of Illusions produced by Willo sat the now bald headed man; quivering in his seat as he came to terms with what he had just done. No doubt he just blew his chance at landing a steady income. "S.. S... S.. Sorry!" he squealed before withdrawing into himself, his legs and knees brought up to his chest as he buried his head into them to make himself as small as possible. At this point all the wisp's and illusions had dissipated, returning to take the form of his long blue hair that now draped along his back in a dishevelled manner.
"I'm sorry.. I'm sorry.. I'm sorry.." he continued to repeat into himself.
Ichiro was taking sips of his pina colada as he was listening to Kouki, raising an eyebrow when he mentioned the idea of saving money. "That would be a great idea if I wasn't a habitual drinker." As he listened to Kouki, he couldn't help but feel a bit envious of him. You may be an older hero but at least you have somebody to go home to. If this is what being in your prime is I am royally fucked. He tried to drown the thoughts with more alcohol in his system, nearing the end of his second drink. When he brought up the hero incident, his mind continued to shut himself down. Ichiro was well aware of the hardships of being a hero, he's been in the business long enough to know the feeling of failure. The thing that irked him the most was that it wasn't just failure that occurred, it was total failure.
The one goal was to make sure that Magma was secure, and his group ended up killing him. If he knew that was going to be the end result, he would have done it himself. Kouki's words bounced off him like a bullet hitting a wall. "It's easier said than done, but I'll be fine like I always am." His main concern wasn't even about himself but his other agency members. He didn't want them to lose faith in the organization and he was going to make sure that didn't happen.
Before Ichiro knew it, he had finished his second drink and was already moving onto his third. His face showed nothing, but his mind was a whirlwind of emotions. Living in the present doesn't feel so great either. He looked up when Kouki mentioned ordering something adventurous and he glanced over to the beach, "We are at the beach, so I would recommend a Sex on the Beach." Ichiro was quite fond of the drink and waved the bartender over, "I'll order a Sex on the Beach for myself and my friend here. Put both drinks on my tab." He was on vacation and while Kouki didn't want to get knocked on his ass, Ichiro did.
Armel | Eagle Agency
Damn I bet that bust is a nice C.
It took willpower to not evoke a single shred of emotion at the thought that had obtrusively wormed its way into his mind upon meeting and shaking Miss Ichika's hand. The very same thought that came to his mind was also said in the voice of the one and only Aoi Koskinen. He blinked and there she was. Brunette hair, freckles, bright orange eyes-- he could practically picture the wagging brows and sly wink that seemingly innocent Fin-Japanese woman would be giving him right over the assistant's shoulder, trying to get a reaction out of him.
It didn't help that out of everyone that had seen him off on his last day at Task Force Elites, Aoi had been the only one who kept her distance as he had said his goodbyes.
It was a bittersweet moment that actually made him feel a mixture of frustration at her coldness by waving goodbye to him from a window, and a biting hit of sadness that was compounded by the fact he still hadn't received a single message from her of all people considering she was one of the many few in the hero patrol force squadron that had actually sought out his personal number a month into his transfer to Japan.
Blinking away the mischievous phantom smile of a friend, Armel followed his guide through the building, and was deposited within her office. Already, as he waited patiently, eyes searching the office for tiny details, he could already hear the lewd commentary of his phantom friends whispering things into his ears.
Though he had to give his traitorous thoughts one thing- Miss Ichika was quite exquisite.
But business was business- and as soon as she began to speak, those traitorous thoughts died as he gave her his full attention.
The fact Eagle had himself sought him out as a hire was something he had not expected since he'd been imprisoned in this country, for more than two years now. Miss Ichika's reveal of him being aware to the sensitive details of his reasons for even being in Japan, was something that only made his brows twitch before returning to their formal stance.
Overall, everything was pretty clear cut. An agency like Eagle Agency would have his details ahead, he had been expecting that- what he hadn't expected was the blatant fact they didn't mind he had been trying to start something with another country, and a powerful family for an old grudge that had set his life into mayhem. Whatever though. If they didn't mind, he wouldn't question it. Answers could always be found later.
And so when Miss Ichika asked if he had any, he nodded, "Just one." And the thought was: When can I get your number? another one of Aoi's finest lines, one he'd been on the receiving end of many a time.
Instead he said: "Isn't he worried about the trouble hiring someone like me could have on his business, what with me...background?"
Each of Charlie's snide remarks concerning Tatsuo's fashion choice struck more than the shrine-maiden thought it would. There was no way it was that bad, right...? Regardless, she scurried along to keep up with the blunt rookie, not knowing what else to say about her idea of 'cute.'
Okinawa's beachwear shop was entirely alien; small Izu's own stores were nothing like it in terms of what they had available. Tatsuo had to be dragged past the bizarre displays to even get to where Charlie led her: a wall filled to the brim with swimwear. It almost daunting, leading her to utter, "For the record, I really don't think any of this is necessary..." Despite saying that, Tatsuo approached the lineup... and couldn't take her eyes off the back wall for a single moment.
Her shift from 'awed' to 'intently keen on shifting through the stock' was nearly instantaneous. Eventually, Tatsuo stopped at a cute, bright red bikini set. She grabbed the tip of it, gazing thoroughly... Then grabbed the swimsuit next to it.
She arrived back to Charlie, proudly showing off her choice with a seemingly sparkling smile. "This one is cute!"
"I was just going to take a look around the area... Maybe stop at a small shop..." she said softly as she stepped out into the sunny rays of the day "I had no other plan to do anything else..." lifting her finger to her lips, she placed her other hand onto her elbow in thought. A common pose that she took whenever she was thinking quite a bit. We could probably stop by a small mart...we can drink some cold tea and just walk along the boardwalk... Or just walk on the beach itself, that could work... putting her arms down, she glanced at Shin and spoke "Follow me..." despite not knowing where she was going, she thought of the most logical direction there would be a mart. On their way in, she didn't see one, so perhaps it was a little further down the road. Aside from that, there was no doubt that the atmosphere between them was going to be very quiet and she wasn't sure how he'd start a conversation between the two... Especially since she barely spoke as it was as a human being. Being more often quiet than talkative.
So she decided to try to start at least some small talk "Didn't expect Eagle to send us out here to relax... I'm not sure why he sent some of us that seemed perfectly fine..." like herself. She wasn't bothered by the fact she was a target, nor was she someone who was extremely moved by Katayama's disappearance. Though, she was worried about the young guy. Then again, she wasn't there to witness such an event, which could have made her feel differently if she was. "I guess he thought we were exhausted from the chaos we had to endure...What do you think...?" even though she had not turned her head, she side-glanced her coworker before looking ahead once again. Her gaze glanced over the scene in front of them as they continued to walk toward where they assumed was the mart...Though Kathy wasn't going to tell him that at all.
If this conversation doesn't take off from here, I may have to take a different approach...
