β€œAfter your shift today report to my office.”

That was the message she got this morning and she knew what it meant. Another mission. All day while at her desk her mind kept wandering about what it was going to be this time. Was it going to be the last one? Not that she wanted it to end – but at the same time there was only so much risk before someone ends up getting caught. Working here at this magazine was her day job – it made decent money, it was enough to afford a small apartment and pay the bills. It wasn’t enough for her to change her life though and that’s what she wanted the most. Still stuck in this city but she wanted to get out. Leave and never look back. Just start her life completely over. Not wanting to let her mind go down that road she leaned back in her seat and gently patted her cheeks. Get it together. Soon she’ll be able to finally leave, she just knew it.

Here at the company she worked as an article writer – whatever she wanted to as long as the topic got approved. This wasn’t some tabloid trash. Whether it was holiday treats, new restaurants being build – whatever catches her interest she did the research and created an article about it. Simple work but it was enjoyable since she had a lot of leeway in what she wanted to write about. Before this she was busy working two sometimes three jobs doing whatever she could find. Waitressing, cashier – the money was tight. Then one day this guy contacted her – finding out about what she enjoyed doing when she had any downtime. Escape rooms. They were exciting and fun – and Seanna broke the record on each one she came across. So he offered her a job here, at his magazine company but really it was all just a cover for what he really does. A collector. It was a crazy adjustment and if it wasn’t for the money she was tempted to ignore him – but also craving the excitement that came along with it.

Mostly it was just using her skills to help him acquire trinkets that he’s been wanting to collect and he pays her handsomely for it. Adding to her savings slowly but surely. Seanna was almost at the point where she would have enough money to achieve her dream – maybe just one more job would do it.When her shift was over, Seanna took a breath and walked towards her boss’s office. Running a hand through her hair trying to not let any memories that surface change her mood.

Along the way she crossed paths with a co-worker of hers… Chase, frowning since it seemed like he was going in the same direction. β€œPlease tell me you’re just here to drop something off” The grin of his face proved otherwise, and she let out a groan. Seanna wasn’t the only one doing these secret missions. In fact there were three others and well, they didn’t get along too well together. Maybe it was the fact they were doing this under the radar and didn’t want any loose ends to tie them together or just too many personalities in one room. Either way Seanna knew she was not looking forward to this next one.

------------

The message from Boss left him in a good mood today – all grins knowing there was something interesting going to happen. Money was never a problem; he didn’t really need it but any extra was nice to have and he could afford to spoil his dates. That was a nice little bonus. It was no secret what his special skill was – since his job in the company was that of a security guard. Didn’t have bulging muscles but he made up for that with his martial arts skills. Just because this place doesn’t deal with tabloid gossip, they still get celebrities in and out for photoshoots and whatever hell else they do in here. Just wanted to do his job – and flirting with the models was also a nice little bonus. But he did take his job seriously. To make sure nothing crazy happened to the guests – like over the top fans or haters. Chase has gotten into a few scraps with some and had to detain them.

Chase enjoyed saving the damsels though from crazy fanatics and he’s gotten a few nice rewards too.

The reason why he said yes to these missions though – was really because he did get bored a little too easily. The poor guy can never stick to the same thing for so long and that included girlfriends too. So this gave him a taste of adventure and do a little travelling. There was no other deep reason for it other than boredom. Sure, some of it was a bit on that gray area of right and wrong, but who was he to judge? Today was a bit of an underwhelming day so he was excited to take a break from the mundane and see what boss wants him to do. Taking a quick glance at his watch and as soon as it hit exactly five o’clock he was off and got into the elevator heading up to the top floor. Scrolling through his phone until he turn the ding of the elevator but when he looked up, he saw that Seanna was walking in the same direction. Oh?

Having to chuckle at her not-so-subtle comment and he turned to grin at her. The women who weren’t so easily charmed by him were always the most interesting – but he was also much too lazy to invest. Were they going to be working together for this next one? Letting out a playful hum which earned a sharp glare from his co-worker. They entered the office, and their boss was sitting at his desk with an easy smile. β€œAhh ~ welcome, welcome. Please – have a seat while we wait for the others to arrive” Others? So this was going to be a group mission it seemed. Just how big was it then? Ooh, the mere thought was getting him excited. This should be a fun time.

For being the editor of a magazine, Max sure wasn’t humble. He wasn’t your average, run-of-the-mill editor, but he knew that without him, the company would crumble under the pressures of the media world.

He hummed lightly to himself as he furiously typed away at his computer. β€œWrong, needs a comma…wrong, spelled wrong…ugh.” He sighed, leaning back in his chair as he placed his hands behind his head, looking at the ceiling. It sure was tiring to correct the same mistakes day in and day out. It’s like these amateurs never learn, he thought to himself.

A small ding brought him out of his thoughts, and he picked up his phone, looking at the message: β€œAfter your shift today, report to my office.”

β€œNice,” he mumbled to himself, setting his phone back down after liking the message. He immediately got back to work, a newfound surge of motivation to finish before this meeting. Max knew his boss was calling him down to discuss another mission.

He couldn’t help but let his mind wander as he worked, thinking about what he was going to have to do this time. Steal another sacred gauntlet? Find some rare, undiscovered fossil? Max never questioned these trinkets his boss sought after, but he couldn’t help but think it a little odd. But it didn’t matter in the end, because as long as he secured the payment afterwards, everything was made up for.

Despite what it might seem, Max was the one who sought out his job. He grew up very wealthy, so of course, he didn’t really need the money, but a little extra spending cash could never hurt. But, after realizing how sheltered and dependent he was, his parents sent him off to the city so he could learn to live on his own. Little did they know, their little boy was stealing artifacts as a side hustle for fun.

At the end of the day, he made his way to his boss’ office. It wasn’t a long trip there, and it took him a moment after sitting down in a chair to realize that there were two other people there as well. Oh, so this must be a group mission, he thought, smirking to himself. That meant a larger payout. Max turned to their boss, about to ask him what the plan was before another person walked in.

---

β€œAfter your shift today, report to my office.”

Rachel lit up at the message. She knew exactly what he meant by that: he had another mission for her. Smirking, she placed her phone in her back pocket, wondering what it was the sob wanted to go after this time. She had no idea, but she didn’t care. As long as he paid up at the end, there weren’t any issues.

Rachel worked as an assistant, mainly for the photographers, makeup artists, and designers. Her job was to foster the connections with the models and companies they worked with, basically anything involving PR. And they didn’t just hire her for any reason: she was genuinely good at it. Need a backordered dress for the shoot tomorrow? She’s on it. A reader of the magazine called with a complaint, threatening a lawsuit? Once she’s done talking to them, it’ll be like there wasn’t a problem to begin with.

Rachel wasn’t afraid to share her opinion when it came to how others should do their job, either. Sure, she knew everyone at the office wasn’t her biggest fan, but she was always right. Rachel was good at what she did, and she knew it.

Her boss saw these skills in her, and started her on missions right away. Of course, she was skeptical at first, but once he explained to her about the payout, she didn’t hesitate to start working. Sure, she could be a little risky to the company at times, but he trusted her, and knew she wouldn’t back down until she got what she wanted. She was perfect.

After making a couple phone calls, sending a couple of emails, and telling one of the writers to completely scrap their article on gas prices (because, seriously, who wants to read about that?), she made her way up to his office. The whole elevator ride, she smiled to herself, imagining the reward she’d be getting for this. She had no idea what this was about, but it didn’t matter–in a matter of days, she was going to be set for a long while.

Once it reached his floor she stepped off the elevator, heading towards his office. She immediately slowed down once she saw there was another person in the room besides him–there were three other people, in fact. She scrunched her eyebrows in confusion and annoyance, slowly walking into the room and sitting down in the last empty chair. Rachel knew he had a couple of other people doing missions for him, but she had never done one with anyone else. She always worked better alone.

After a moment of silence she spoke up for the group: β€œWell, you know we’re all wondering it–why did you call us all here?”

Sitting at his desk, their boss – one by the name of Atticus Lockwood, just smiled cupping his hands together as his eyes darted between each one of the four that he brought to his office. Trying to keep his excitement calm. With a deep chuckle he slowly stood up and unlocked a drawer in his desk. β€œI think you all have an idea why I bought you all here as for why you are all together… well – that is because you will be working this last mission as one” Pulling out four folders and he handed one to each other them.

Seanna couldn’t help but sigh in both annoyance and in relief. This was the last one. Not that she hated these missions or little treasure hunts, but there was such thing as too much risk. Working with everyone here? That could be a struggle, but it was something she would just have to deal with.

On the other hand, Chase was just beaming with excitement, β€œLast one huh? Then it’s only right to assume this will be the best one” Why else would he bring everyone together?

Mr. Lockwood hummed softly, β€œβ€¦ it will be the most challenging. I am in search of six artifacts, ones that were rumored to belong to Poseidon himself” Everything he had learned were in those folders at their disposal. They were mythical items, so it was difficult to learn everything about them. Allowing them to review the folders they were given, and Seanna made the first comment. β€œNo wonder it will be a challenge… there is hardly any information about these items other than what they are” A crown, ring… and others, and if they didn’t have photographic evidence, it was just a drawing for reference.

β€œThis will probably take months” They had little to no information. Only for two of the artifacts. The crown – which Atticus claimed here in these notes would be auctioned off in Paris. Then the sword – which somehow ends up in a museum in Japan?

Flipping through the papers lazily, Chase just laughed, β€œAw come on. Think of this as a work vacation! A chance to see the world, yeah? Beats being stuck here in this office”

That may be true but it was a lot to wrap her head around. Sighing, she ran a hand through her hair. It’s no wonder he wanted all four of them to work this one. Atticus was now standing in front of his desk leaning back against it calmly with his hands resting against the edge. β€œI understand it’s a lot to handle – but Chase is correct. It’s not all about the work. Enjoy yourselves. I want all six and I want zero mistakes. So, take your time. Even if it takes a year”

That was one huge demand.

β€œNow. To further clarify this importance none of you will get paid until I get all six artifacts” This was important and he wanted to be firm. Raising a brow, β€œHowever – all the expenses you need to travel will be on me” In the beginning of their contract they were each given a credit card to use for specific reasons. This also includes food and anything they may need to complete the missions.

Snapping his folder closed, β€œSounds good enough for me” Eyes latching onto his co-workers with a grin, β€œYou guys game or what?” The bodyguard was excited to do some traveling and their first spot it sounded like would be Paris? That was the city of love, wasn’t it? Hey – the boss himself said to have fun, didn’t he? Stress wouldn’t do any mission any good. Needed to be at his best and what better way to help him de-stress than go on a few dates with some lovely French ladies?

Staring at Chase with a simple roll of her eyes. β€œYeah, yeah – I’m game” Why not? This was their last one and this worked out perfectly. Seanna had been toying with the notion of moving to Paris after she got enough money so she’ll be able to see for herself if it was worth it or not. Other than that though it sounded like a lot of work but okay – yeah, she was excited. This sounded like a real treasure hunt. This wasn’t a simple – here it is now go get it type, they had to find most of the items themselves and Seanna loved that.

Clapping his hands together when they all agreed, β€œWonderful. I alright booked your flight for tomorrow afternoon. Plenty of time to go home and do what you have to do” The plane tickets were tucked away in an envelopment inside the folders.

An easy grin, Chase eagerly slipped beside Rachael and leaned in a little too close, β€œHey, wanna sit next to me on the plane? I hear I’m great company”

Atticus watched his employees with a calm smile but on the inside he was a grinning madman. What he didn't tell these fools was they were nothing but little pawns in his scheme. Didn't tell them why he needed all six and there was a reason for that. Also keeping the information that each item separately had a specific power to them if used correctly. It was possible they would figure that out for themselves which was fine - as long as they weren't reckless and lost the item. What he didn't need them knowing was what happens when they were all worn together. So he made sure to keep them happy so they didn't get too suspicious. As much as he would love to have the artifacts as soon as possible he was a patient man and if he rushed them they would make mistakes and it would rouse suspicion. They were smart - they had to be in order to pull this off. So Atticus just needed to keep them at arms length.

"Good. Now go on and get ready. Do not miss your flight" Waving them out of his office he sat back down at his desk and began the paperwork. Having to cover up his tracks and explain why these four weren't going to be working here in the building for months.

β€œ...that is because you will be working this last mission as one.”

Rachel froze at his statement. As one? Surely he doesn't mean I’ll be working with all of them. She quickly glanced around at them all, unsure as she put names to their faces. There was Max, Seanna, Chase. She had worked with each of them around the office and knew them pretty well, though now she felt like she didn’t really know them at all.

She took her folder as Atticus handed them out, opening it as he began explaining their mission. Rachel couldn’t help her mind from wandering as she thought about what she was about to get herself into. Whatever it was, she didn’t care too much about it. Her focus was on the fact that she was going to have to share the reward this time.

Max couldn’t have been more excited about a mission. A whole team, six artifacts, and a massive payout, all while getting to travel around the world? Yes please.

He took his folder with a grin, opening it immediately. He was surprised at the lack of information that was there, but it was nothing that he couldn’t find out with some time and research.

Rachel hardly took notice of the conversation around her, her eyes drawn to the sketches in the folder. Her brows furrowed as she flipped through the papers, searching for the rest of the information. This can’t be everything–it’s hardly anything at all.

Max looked around at all of them, wondering what they were all thinking about this. He could tell Chase was excited–Rachel was of course not enjoying anything, as per usual. But Seanna, he wasn’t sure about. Max always had a hard time figuring out what she was thinking.

β€œThis will probably take months.”

Months? Is he crazy? There is no
way I am going on a trip with these three for months. Before Rachel could speak up, Chase opened his mouth again. She rolled her eyes at his comment and his childish excitement. They were so unprofessional. This wasn’t just some lolly-gagging vacation they were going on–it was serious business.

Her eyes widened slightly when Atticus mentioned the mission taking up to a year. Is he kidding? These excursions usually took her a week or two, max, and she was always alone. But, to be fair, there was a ton of research to do beforehand, considering the extreme lack of information he had given them.

She sighed quietly, looking back down at the papers as she reasoned with herself. Maybe this group mission wouldn’t be so bad. After all, he did say that this was their last one. Rachel was kind of sad about that, though she knew that if she had kept it up much longer, she would have gotten herself into some real trouble.

β€œTo further clarify this importance none of you will get paid until I get all six artifacts.”

β€œWhat?” Rachel blurted out. There was no way she was taking this extravagant trip, for multiple artifacts, having to deal with these three, and not getting paid for at least a couple of months. She calmed down slightly at his mentioning of the rest of their expenses being charged to their cards, relaxing back into her seat.

Flipping through the interim itinerary for the mission, Max saw that their first flight was tomorrow–and to Paris. Nice. Apparently they were in search of some sort of oceanic crown. Luckily, this was one of the artifacts which did have a picture attached to it. Now this made sense why Atticus was going after it–it looked like it was worth a fortune.

Max was used to going on missions without much information at the start. He was skilled at finding details on the artifacts Atticus was always after, which must have been the reason why he was there with the other three. He wondered what their specialties were.

Looking through the folder one more time, Rachel saw that Paris was their first destination, discovering a plane ticket behind the artifact details. Huh. Now there’s something I can get behind. Relaxing on a balcony, drinking wine, eating expensive bread and cheeses as I watch the sunset…

Rachel was pulled out of her thoughts by Chase’s comment, slightly startled by his close proximity. She gave him a look, obviously annoyed, and sighed. β€œYou know what Cooper, sure, why not?” she said in response, smirking as she stood up. She made a face once she walked away from him and out of the office, wondering how she was ever going to survive this trip.

After everyone agreed on the mission, Max stood up from his chair, heading out into the hallway. He had been with a partner before, but never an entire group like this. It was going to be an interesting trip.

He looked up, noticing that Rachel was already on her way towards the elevator. β€œHey, Rachel, where are you going?”

She turned around to face him, a look of annoyance still on her face as she sharply pointed over her shoulder with her thumb. β€œHome,” she said in an obvious tone.

β€œWell we’re a team now, don’t you think it’d be wise to get to know your fellow confidants?” he asked in a teasing tone. Max was being serious, as he did think it important for them to talk about this, but he couldn't help but pick on her a little. Rachel was definitely not his favorite, though he was pretty fond of her, and they usually got along alright. Most of the time, anyway.

Sighing through her nose, Seanna wasn't sure about this mission. Just something about it seemed off but who was she to turn this down? This was the last one and with the payment afterwards she could finally accomplish her own goals - to move the hell away. Someplace nice, quiet and secluded. Somewhere that her mother would never bother to look for her. It may sound silly - an adult woman running away from her own mother but no one should underestimate that woman. Seanna had to get away if she was ever going to get peace and quiet. Sadly, money was the main thing she needed - and it was the same thing she was sort of running away from. Funny how that worked out. The brunette only listened quietly to everyone sharing their thoughts. Having to chuckle at Rachael's responses as she flipped through the papers. The boys seemed more eager for a vacation than anything.

Their first destination was Paris - which was nice considering she always wanted to visit and possibly move there if she could ever afford it. Now maybe she could. The auction would be tricky to get into it, but they had time to hash out a plan. Plane tickets and hotel reservations were already prepared.

Putting everything neatly away into the folder, she lifted her head hearing Chase playfully ask for Rachael to sit next to him, a soft roll of her eyes. Doesn't he have any self-control? Shaking her head she turned to look at Max who was teasing the woman as well. "We're leaving tomorrow. Don't you think it's wise for us to go home and get our situations settled?" The same teasing tone he had and she turned to also leave wanting to go home. Needing to shower, pack up her things and tell her landlord she would be away for... months. Well that didn't matter. Hopefully when she was finished she would be able to buy a nice place to live. Running a hand through her hair, she went home to take care of everything she needed to do.

--

Getting to the airport, Seanna carried a simple black and blue bookbag that she had slung over her shoulders. Didn't need much of anything at all - this was a mission first and a vacation last so she didn't pack anything unnecessary. When she wasn't in the office, Seanna hated dull and boring clothes - so she wore a tank top with an expression and some plaid pants which were an interesting choice matched with some black boots. Slipping on a pair of sunglasses and a black cap on her head - her hair wore down. Didn't bother to wait for her fellow co-workers as she boarded the plane choosing to sit next to a window. One leg crossed over the other with a workbook on her lap.

--------------------------------------------------

There was no hiding the grin on the man's face - he was excited about this mission. It was a little sad this would be his last but it was a big one. That would let them travel around the world - practically having an adventure for a year. How did that not sound exciting? The girls seemed immune to the news which was boring. Just because it was work didn't mean it had to be no play. The boss even said to use this as a vacation! So why were they acting so dull? Staring over at Rachael - she seemed to hate this mission the most though. Must not be a social person which was too bad. Finding her very pretty - beautiful even, she could have any man she wanted if she had a better attitude. Humming to himself. Sounded like a challenge to him. Usually he would be too lazy to invest in a hard to get kind of girl but this was a different case. They would be stuck travelling together for close to a year so he might as well try and get to know her. Maybe have her come out of her hard shell.

"Yeah?" Raising a brow when she easily said yes to sitting next to him on the plane. How interesting. "I'll hold you to that then" Eyes fluttered to Seanna and Max, having to let out a laugh at the two of them. This would be an interesting group indeed. Stretching his arms over his head, "Yeah - I need to head home too" Needing to decide what to pack and contact his folks to let them know he would be away travelling for work. A lazy wave as he too left the building to head to his condo. It was spacious but lonely, which is why he often had friends over for little get togethers when he had the time.

Tempted to host a goodbye party but he decided not... if he got hung over and missed the flight he would be so ticked. So, he decided to be a responsible adult today and take care of what he needed to do and plop into bed - passing out.

---

Cursing out loud - he woke up late and had to rush to the airport. Now grateful he packed the night before otherwise he definitely would have missed the plane. Chase wasn't a morning person - at all, he really should have set like five alarms but he didn't think about it. Checking in two large suitcases, he made it onto the plan with a messenger bag to hold little things he might want for the long ass plane ride. Searching the plane he found Seanna and waved to her, "Hey stranger" Messing with her and that earned him a look, "Go away, I'm working" The woman huffed and went back to her book. Raising a brow at her. Working on what? Who works on a plane to Paris??? What was she even - oh whatever. Shrugging it off, he went off to find the other grumpy female of the group.

Catching sight of Rachael, he grinned and he didn't hesitate to sit down next to her. "And how you this fine morning?" Chiming in a friendly way. Dressing in a simple navy shirt with brown pants. Usually he dresses a bit more nicer than this but the man was in a rush this morning. Leaving the top mostly unbuttoned - but that's just because he preferred that look.

β€œThank you,” Rachel said in an exasperated tone at Seanna and Chase’s comments. Without giving Max a chance to respond and keep them there any longer than they had to be, she headed out of the office.

She had a pretty decent apartment, but it wasn’t anything special. It was just her, so it was lonely most of the time, but she didn’t really mind the quiet too much. It gave her motivation to focus on her work and her missions.

Rachel was not expecting to see her colleagues in Atticus’ office that afternoon, let alone those three in particular. There wasn’t anything wrong with them, they were just the least of who she expected to be working for him on the side. Seanna, she could kind of see going on missions, but the other two? Yeah, right. Rachel laughed a little to herself at the thought of that burly bodyguard solving little puzzles and riddles, and the editor in the midst of physical combat. I might have to teach them a thing or two to make this mission as quick and as painless as possible.

Once she got home Rachel went straight to bed, knowing she would be up at the first ring of her alarm. She thought about the mission as she fell asleep, wondering mostly about how they were going to go about getting into that auction.

β€”

The next morning Rachel got up right away, hopping straight into the shower. Afterwards she got dressed, pulling on a pair of jeans and a loose t-shirt, along with a pair of sneakers. She then proceeded to pack her suitcase and carry-on, making sure to bring her laptop and a book for the plane ride.

Before stepping outside she grabbed a grey zip-up, knowing her wet hair would make her a bit chilly. She grabbed a taxi to the airport, arriving pretty early. Rachel assumed she would be the first one there, so she sat at the gate for a while before they started boarding.

Rachel was one of the first ones on the plane and didn’t hesitate to grab a window seat. She placed her bag in the compartment above, making sure to take out her book beforehand. She sat down, glancing out the window at the runway. It was still really early, so the sun was just rising. Pretty.

She then turned to her book, beginning to read as she waited for everyone else to board. It was a mystery novel, which is almost all she read. She enjoyed solving the mystery along with the characters, although she almost always figured it out before they did.

After a while Rachel was brought back to reality by the presence of someone sitting down in the seat next to her. She mentally cursed to herself, remembering that she had told Chase that they could sit together on the plane. I mean, how bad could it really be? she thought to herself as she closed her book, giving him a small smile.

β€œNever better,” Rachel said in response to his question, mostly in a joking manner. But she really was excited to go to Paris. She had never been, and it did happen to be on her bucket list of places to visit.

β€œAnd how are you, Mr. Chase?” she asked him, teasing him with the nickname as she turned slightly in her seat to face him. As she looked at him, she couldn’t help but suddenly notice how attractive he was. She all of a sudden felt very underdressed, in a sweatshirt, with her hair all a mess. This is a business trip, she reminded herself, blushing ever so slightly as she looked at him, careful to not let her face reveal any of her thoughts.

___

β€œFine, leave, I was just trying to help,” Max said, annoyed, and basically to himself, since the others had already left. He rolled his eyes, knowing this was going to be a hell of a trip, and headed home as well.

He packed as soon as he got home, making sure he had everything that he needed. Max made sure to pack his laptop and his tablet, as well as his file, planning on doing some research on the plane ride over. According to the file, the auction was in about a day, so they didn’t have much time to figure out a plan. But he wasn’t too worried, he had done this kind of thing many times before.

Max wasn’t sure how this trip was going to go, but he was excited to go to another country. He had also packed a French language book in his carry-on that he could look over on the plane as well. He had never done a mission in another country before, and the fact that it gave him an excuse to not talk to his parents for about a year was reason enough for him.

In the morning, Max was in no rush. He got up in time to get dressed in a simple shirt and pants, and make sure that everything he needed was packed and ready to go. He made sure his place was locked and that everything looked alright before heading out to the airport.

He arrived just in time, being one of the last ones to board the plane. Max was not one to waste his time–he was where he needed to be at the exact time he was needed, not a minute earlier.

Once he was boarded he searched around for his colleagues. He first saw Chase and Rachel sitting together, and then Seanna. Luckily, the seat beside her was still empty, so he swiftly made his way down the aisle and plopped down beside her.

β€œHey,” he said with a small smile as he settled into his seat, putting his bag down at his feet. Max could see that she was typing and was curious as to what she was doing, so he leaned over slightly to look at her screen.

β€œAre you working?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. β€œCome on, we’re on a plane to Paris, relax a little,” he said, gently nudging her with his arm and giving her another smile. Sure, he was planning to do a little research himself, but he wasn’t too concerned about it. This was going to be the trip of a lifetime, and he wanted her to enjoy it, too.

Max knew how work-driven Seanna could be, how she would rarely ever let herself just have fun. Yeah, it was a work trip, but they were going to the City of Love, for God sakes. They needed to let loose a little.

Workbook in her lap, Seanna was busy scribbling down some notes as she worked in silence. Usually she wasn’t so irritable but when it came to Chase, her patience tend to wear a little thin. Just having a low tolerance for the flirty types but from what she has seen – Chase was a good person, he just gave her a headache sometimes. Noticing in the corner of her eye that someone decided to sit next to her, and it was safe to assume it was Max, but she didn’t mind that so much. Rolling her eyes at his playful nudge. Was it that odd? β€œI’m refreshing up on my French – I think that might be helpful. Don’t you think?” At least one of them should if not all of them to know the language.

Honestly, Seanna just didn’t have time to relax and have a good time – even though that was just an excuse. It didn’t matter though, Sea wasn’t about to just spill her sob story to these guys. The woman just wanted to keep her head down, work hard so she could escape her current reality and start her life over. Maybe then she’ll be able to relax and taste a little bit of pure happiness.

A soft hum as she continued to study. β€œWhy? What do you plan on doing in Paris when you’re not working?” A hint of a tease in her voice but her eyes never left the workbook that was nestled on her lap. The plane was about to take off though so for now she had to put her items away and tuck her bag under her seat. Releasing a sigh, she tilted her head back and shut her eyes. β€œI hate flying…” mumbling to herself but it was loud enough for Max to hear. The words just came out – she’s never been a good flier. Just something about being in the air and at any second the plane could just crash and burst into flames. A shiver ran down her spine. Ugh no thank you.

β€œIf I could drive to Paris I would. Should have gotten Boss to build me a James Bond car that can drive on water” Snickering with a light shake of her head.

Hmm, was it just him or did everyone seem a tad grumpy? They were heading to Paris and yet Seanna wanted to do homework or whatever the hell she was up to. Sure this was their biggest and last job ever – but they literally had all the time in the world. Boss even said to take their time. Could be months to a year! Honestly, it wouldn’t be above Chase to slack off just so he could enjoy this β€˜vacation’ more. With a kind smile he found Rachael like he promised and plopped down into the empty next to her.

β€œDo I detect a hint of sarcasm?” Though his smile never faltered, he actually found her amusing and a little enticing. Normally, Chase was too lazy for a challenge. Preferring the easy types but they were going to be travelling together for a while now. So hey, why not keep himself occupied with Rachael? Eventually she has to grow to like him! Surely within a month or two she’ll be cuddling up to him to watch a movie.

Leaning back against his seat he crossed one leg over the other. Despite being a bodyguard of sorts – Chase went against the stereotypical norm of that profession. He liked dressing nicely and didn’t overdo it at the gym or have those buff muscles. Instead, he just made sure to keep up with his martial arts. To him that was more beneficial than becoming a sweaty gym rat. Homing in a lot more skills than becoming a brick wall.

β€œI’m fantastic thanks for asking” That same grin on his lips. β€œI get to enjoy the world on someone else’s dime. What’s not to enjoy? I get to also go on an adventure with a lovely lady such as yourself” A playful wink in her direction. Who knows where the other items were. They only knew the location of one other relic – the sword in Japan. Other than that? No idea. One could even be in a sunken ship inside a treasure chest for all they knew. Either way – it was exciting. Scuba diving was on his bucket list.

The plane took off and Chase popped some gum in his mouth to help with his ears. Every time he got on a plane, he always had issues with his ears popping. So uncomfortable. Turning, he offered her a stick of peppermint gum, β€œWant one? I think I have something not mint somewhere if you prefer” Maybe? He wasn’t much of a fruity guy but he bought whatever gum he could get his hands on. It was going to be a long flight and once the plane was stabilized, he stretched himself out. β€œI know it’s a job and all but is there something you want to do while in Paris? I’m probably going to go wine tasting” Having some really amazing aged wine in France? Oh – that sounded so damn good.
