Futuristic You are a Space Marine... in Space! (With images)

(Since a third party won't change anything at this point, I'll just go ahead with the post.)

"Okay, let's go to Shecusa." Your voice falls on deaf ears. You turn around.

Shinrei is so deep into the contents of the book that he appears to have lost track of your words. "Boy!" you yell, much more loudly. Shinrei's eyes dart into your direction, his lips parted from the amazement of the book. He understands what you said now, and he gets up, closing the book. Shinrei follows you as the two of you proceed to the Thunderhawk.

~

The two of you make your landing in the busy marketplace of a desert city. This town seems to be a more sophisticated, as upon landing you've noticed an actual aqueduct system that seems to provide the citizens with fresh water. In addition, you're pretty sure you saw some quasi-machinery crafted out of alien plants native to this planet, probably some kind of pseudo-wood.

As the landing pad on the back of the ship deploys with the hiss of steam, an unfortunate passerby finds his head to be crushed by the immense kinetic force applied to the side of his cranium, having his skull tragically split into two blunt parts at your very doorstep. Disgusted, you gently kick the corpse away with the tip of your foot, then pass by, Shinrei following. You decide to give these peasants a little bit of a lesson. You leave the landing pad open, but set the ship's protection AI to kill anyone trying to get in that isn't you or Shinrei. This will teach the mortals not to play with the works of God. Speaking of which, a few of them kneel and beg for mercy.

You walk past them, your staff rhytmically stomping on the hardened sandstone of the street as the two of you pass by, the villagers parting ways to make place for you.

You enter the nearby tavern and discover that a man wielding a "weapon truly divine," as the barman described, "one that had the magnificence of the sun!" he said. The man cloaked in heavy armor apparently walked north two days ago. That's a very potent lead. You leave and give the peasant a bit of cocaine, a substance you know isn't even in the slightest known to the planet. Your guess is that once he snorts it, or maybe even tries to eat it, he'll go tripping and telling people how this is the stuff of the Gods. And thus, you created a holy sacrament of a new religion on this primitve world. All in a day's work.

The two of you leave. Shinrei looks at you. "Hey, could you be a little less poisonous to society sometimes?"
  1. "Why?"
  2. "Are you questioning my decisions, Shinrei?"
  3. "Sure."
You enter back into the ship. Several corpses surround it, with clear holes in them made by a large caliber autogun. Stupid peasants tried to enter your ship, and now they're fearing the divine might of the wrath of your heavenly steed. Yup, definitely started a religion right there.

The ship rises from the marketplace, its plasma engines roaring like a screaming banshee before you blast off like thunder in the northern direction. Guess this is why they call it the Thunderhawk, albeit you haven't noticed the little detail of the sound until now.

~

The two of you head north. You notice Shinrei practicing telekinesis in the back of the ship, this time to much greater success.
  1. "Just don't destroy the engines, big guy."
  2. "Hey, retard. Stop doing that. You'll blow up the ship."
  3. "Good work. Keep it going."

D-64 Storm Bolter
A powerful weapon that fires bolts. Bolts are special bullets propelled via a charge on the back that can penetrate armor easily thanks to their diamantine tips. They have a half-second charge that causes them to explode once they are past the enemy's armor. They are incredibly destructive weapons that can tear enemies apart with one barrage. The Storm Bolter is a deadly weapon of massive, increased firepower that can manage to fire 3 bolts per second making it much deadlier.
Rate of fire: 1Bolt/0.3s.
Damage: Huge.
Magazine: 30 Bolts.

Mark VI. Chainsword
A large sword with an engine and a roaring mechanical blade. The chained teeth of this sword have diamantine tips that lets it tear through armor like a knife through butter.
Fuel: 15 Minutes.

Fuel Tank
A fuel tank that may be used in a Flamer, Chainsword, or even in vehicles. WARNING: Contains unstable Promethium.

Pimp-Staff

A, probably magical, a conduit of spatial forces that lets you unleash deadly pimp energies onto your opponents like arcane blasts. The Pimp-Staff stores 5000 prana points in it and recharges 500 each hour automatically. Shooting a pimp blast costs 100 prana points.

Fanoros Fictionomicon (Currently in Shinrei's Hold)
A puzzling tome of magecraft of unknown origin that contains arcane and esoteric mysteries not meant for the eyes of mortal men or gods.

Mark VII. Aquila Power Armor (Unpainted) (Pimped Out)

A durable example of Imperial engineering. This power armor enhances the wearer's strength and endurance beyond what is normally possible, but can only be worn by trained personnel like space marines. It also contains auto-senses in the helmet and other features, but it requires to be powered with electricity. The battery can be found on the back and is somewhat large, therefore leaving the wearer exposed to sneak attacks.

11kg of Cocaine
Ah, yes! The finest substance in the galaxy. This little collection of white powdered dust helps you get through the day and dull your senses until you can no longer think.

1.5 Liters of Blood (Low-Quality) (w/ Cocaine)
Taken from a dead Imperial servitor, this blood may be used for a variety of purposes; rituals, feeding vampires or perhaps drinking. Still, it is of low quality as servitors don't need blood. It is overflowing with chemicals and is very unpleasant in both taste and consistency. Kept in a small tube. This mixture has been laced with visible traces of cocaine.

Plasma Pistol
A sidearm that shoots heated hydrogen bolts at temperatures above 7 thousand degrees Celsius. These bolts quickly pressurize into plasma and a foe in heavy armor will be badly damaged from just one shot.
Rate of fire: 1PlasBolt/1s.
Damage: Devastating.
Magazine: 15HydrogenShots.

Frag Grenades (2)
An explosive grenade that explodes 5 seconds after the pin is pulled. Deals decent damage against all opponents.

Krak Grenades (2)
Special grenades designed to work against vehicles. One is more than enough to disable a medium-sized tank of moderate armor.

Society poison: 1. Can't be too aggressive so but we can't give in to the demands of little boys, you say something you have to explain why it's better to do what he says.

Magical Shit: 1. It's best if we let him practice more, but we can't have him destroying our ship.

"Well, y'know... If you were a bit less... insane, to put in a way, maybe people would be more willing to cooperate?" Shinrei replied.
  1. "Let me tell you something I learned long ago. If brute force doesn't work, that means you've yet to apply enough."
  2. "I'll think about it."
~

"Just don't destroy the engines, big guy," you snark from behind the steering wheel. Shinrei nods quietly, acknowledging the statement. The wrenches and screwdrivers floating around suddenly slow down, as your request was processed by his brain.

Suddenly, your radar picks something up. You look at it. Two red dots behind you. Your missile warning doesn't go off, meaning they are aircraft. You click a button on the console and a diagnostic shows up. Two Lightning-class Air-Superiority fighters on your tail.

Shinrei approaches from behind. "What's happening?" he asks. "Buckle up and prepare for evasive maneuvers," you reply. He complies with a nod and sits down next to you, enabling the In-Atmosphere-Combat grid around his body and putting on his safety belt. "The Navy is tailing us. They're probably here to get back for what I did a year ago."

"WHAT did you do a year ago?" Shinrei asks, clearly repulsed. "It's not important right now." He looks at you with a stern gaze, not giving up. You look back, somewhat nervous, and reply. "I may have killed a few people... and fallen to the worship of forbidden deities... and--" He stops you. "I don't want to know. That's more than enough. I don't care what you did, let's just get to safety."

Lightnings are way faster than a Thunderhawk carrier like yours, but you have managed to increase the speed of your vessel thanks to your previous tinkering. They won't be able to catch up easily without using their extra thrusters. One of the Lightnings fires two of its Hellstrike Missiles toward you. The blips on your radar approach at high speed, but you aren't in range of their Autocannons and Lascannons yet.

What do you do?

6AP.
  1. Turn on the auto-defense mesh. This will enable the two automated gun-turret autocannons at your sides, but they won't fire unless you get close. (1AP.)
  2. Have Shinrei take to the Main Lascannon in the pod up the ladder. He won't be in range quite yet, but larger Lascannons are most effective against armor. (1AP.)
  3. Do a barrel-roll to avoid the missiles. (3AP. If you don't avoid them, they have a 77% chance to hit. I will roll the dice.)
  4. Perform a sharp turn upward in an attempt to maneuver in position to fire your missiles at them, then do so. (2AP. 2 Krak Missiles.)
  5. Perform an extremely sharp turn and fire your main Assault Cannon. (2AP, only 1AP if you already fired the missiles. -50 Assault Cannon.)

"Can't we just... out-speed them?" Shinrei asks. You hit the auto-defense grid of the ship. The autocannon gun-turrets enable and begin taking pot-shots at the distant ships tailing you, but to no avail for now.

You, proud of your minor in engineering, decided to give a complex explanation. "No, we can't. Thunderhawks aren't mean for aerial combat. They were made to carry troops and resources from larger ships to the planet, or vice versa. They have poor speed, good armor, and average weaponry. Compare our maximum 420 kilometers per hour to those Lightnings on our tails. They fly up to 550 kilometers per hour, can sweep the planet thrice before running out of fuel, and when they hit the boosters, they can go up to 2000 kilometers per hour."

Beewp. Beewp. Bewp! Bewp! Boop! Boop! Bop! Bop!

You started hearing a clicking sound. You looked at your radar and saw the two hellstrike missiles about to hit. You quickly calculate the approximate time until their arrival and smash the decoy flare button. Several red flares erupted from the back of your ship, just in time to scour one of the missiles to the side and make it explode. The other, however...

BOOM!

The whole vessel recoils at the heavy hit to the back. Thunderhawks don't have void shields but they have several, thick layers of various-substance armors. "Shit," you click a button on the console, opening up the diagnostics. The engines are safe, but it seems there's a small hole in the back of the main bay. The automated maintenance and utility servo-skull activates and flies over to said room to asses the damage and begin repairs with all available materials.

"Shinrei. Go up to the Lascannon pod." He nods to you, then walks up the ladder. You yell instructions toward him through the intercom. "First, unlock the steering panel with the button to the left. Then sit down and take aim. Pull the safety lever on the left and put your hands on the two rods in the middle. You can fire with a button under the one on the right."

CRACK-CRACK-CRACK-CRACK-CRACK!

You hear numerous discharges of the Lascannon, constantly firing away at the enemy ships that begun evasive maneuvers.

Finally, you turn the whole ship around with a very quick, sharp, risky turn. You fire two missiles back at your opponents, along with a volley of deadly assault cannon fire.

BOOWM! BOOWM! DAKKA-DAKKA-DAKKA!

You hear two explosions, followed by the barrage of bolt fire hitting the enemy ships. One of the red dots disappears from your radar. One of them fell, and now you managed to make a full turn and you're tailing the other lightning. His engine is smoking and one of his wings is heavily damaged.
  1. Open a short barrage of bolter fire to destroy him. (-25 Assault Cannon.)
  2. Let him go.
Regardless, you...
  1. Check out the crash-site to see if the pilot/s are still alive and if you can find anything useful in the destroyed wreck/s.
  2. Continue flying north. Even if he/they survived, the pirates will take care of them.

But you might be able to get some additional slaves allies

From the downed ship or from the one we're letting go? Cause I highly doubt we're going to have the second pilot become our slave if we let him go.

(Considering the MC is insane as fuck, we will shoot them down.)

You have the little bastard on your crosshair. You press the red button on your steering wheel and fire.

RATTA-DAKKA-RATTA-DAKKA!

Two-or-so volleys of bolter fire to the back. The Lightning falls down from the sky and hits the ground next to his friend, leaving behind a very long trail in the sand. At the end of his path, the vessel finally explodes from fuel leakage. There won't be anything to scavenge, although it seems the other one is still in okay condition.

You lower your altitude, while Shinrei walks down the ladder and slowly approaches you. The plasma drives on the back of the Thunderhawk slow down as the landing gear hits the sand and softly sinks into it lightly. You lower the landing pad and you and your faithful minion go up to the fallen Lightning to scavenge for potential resources.

You... (pick as many as you want.)
  1. Order the servo-skull to pull off bits and pieces from the Lightning to use in repairs of your main bay.
  2. Suck the fuel out of the Lightning to refill your own stores to full capacity.
    1. In-fact, replace the whole fuel storage with that of the Lightning. That way, you'll be able to fly a lot longer before refueling.
    2. And also, take the Lightning's booster. That way, you'll be able to travel up to 2000km/h.
    3. And also, take the Lightning's warp drive. You'll be able to say goodbye to this awful planet and travel to other star systems as you please.
  3. Refill your missiles.
  4. Refill your ammo.
As you plan out your actions, you hear a hiss of clearly sharp pain from the side. You look to your right... and to your left...

...

Someone is crawling seven meters away into the desert. You approach and investigate. It appears the pilot survived with heavy injuries. A woman in her mid 20's. Rather young for a member of the Imperial navy, you ponder. In fact, it's quite surprising she's been given the training to actually pilot. The Imperial Navy tends to be a bit sexist, not to mention, they prefer veterans steering their ships. She must be an ace -- a truly talented pilot.

As you think to yourself, you notice she had stopped crawling. She must have passed out from blood loss, or from sand getting into her wounds. Heck it, probably both.

(Pick as many as you want.)
  1. Give her a nudge with your foot to see if she's alive.
  2. Cast a healing spell to instantly resuscitate her with guaranteed success. (-1250 prana.)
  3. Order Shinrei to carry her to the Thunderhawk with his newly acquired telekinetic abilities.
  4. Have your servo-skull stop what it's doing and tend to her.
  5. Leave her there. (Obviously incompatible with the others.)

Scavenge: 1 Because we need to repair but even if we have extra scrap we could still use that scrap to do many other things like say build something.

2. All options because obviously we need to upgrade our small ship to be even better!

3. Because missiles are always good! Besides we might get extra!

4. Because we got guns and we need ammo! Even extra!

Pilot:
1. Because she's more useful alive than dead, though even if she's dead we could still have a use for her like experimentation and such.

2. She's still more useful alive than dead, even at the cost of magic. Besides she could be a potential loyal slave! This could also give us information if we deem it necessary from her. We gain a lot more from having her alive than just a rotting carcass in the sweltering sun.

3. It's good practice for the kid, helps him be more useful to us.

Your servo-skull proceeds to tear off bits and pieces, pads, and pieces of scrap as well as other machinery from the ship you've just destroyed. It brought them back to the main hangar of the Thunderhawk and neatly welded them into the holes, appropriately choosing the materials and managing to nullify the damage done by the missile perfectly. The servo-skull floated back and forth, mounting a fuel line to the Lightning and Thunderhawk's turbines that transferred the fuel over to your fuel storage near the engine. It also began preparing the procedures of transferring the fuel repositories, adding the boosters, and adding the warp drives to the Thunderhawk. It'd be much faster if you brought a servitor, and you suspect the process will take five or six hours taking into consideration the limited apparatus and tensile strength that the servo-skull is working with.

Meanwhile, Shinrei carries over the missiles and some ammunition from the fallen vessel back to the Thunderhawk, doing his part for the team that the two of you now form. He goes back inside the Thunderhawk and reloads its armaments...

Meanwhile....

You give a gentle nudge to the woman's left side, merely bumping her torso with the tip of your armored foot. She recoils by grasping her side in pain and turning around to her back. "Ouch," you exclaim as if doing it for her. Her chest is effectively open, with a giant shard of metal jabbed into it. You're pretty sure you can see some organs sticking out. From an outside look, it appears the metal came close to piercing her spine. She's a goner. The bleeding is too much. Maybe if there was a medical servitor nearby she'd still have a glimmer of hope, but that's not the case. Clearly, even she's aware of that fact, with tears in her eyes. The woman is without the strength to speak.

You decide to give her some mercy. It's not as much a question of choice. You shouldn't get yourself wrong. You are an insane maniac who dresses in a pimp-coat on top of power armor and wears a purple hat with a feather, but you still have common human decency despite all the stuff Shinrei claims. Your choice is to show her mercy by instantly finishing her off, quickly and cleanly. You point the end of your pimp-staff toward her head and prepare to fry her brain with a concentrated blast of eldritch energy, but then you consider your options... "Actually," you detract the pimp-staff and kneel next to the dying girl.

You lay your other hand on her chest. Before you cast a healing spell, a procedure will be required to remove the piece of metal without additional damage. "Shinrei! Get your ass over here!" you call out.

The Eldar boy comes running. "Wha--" he begins, then stops. He stares at the dying woman, somewhat startled. His gaze quickly turns to you, as if expecting you to say something. "Take this shard out of her. Be careful," you command. Shinrei nods assuredly and kneels beside the other side of the woman.

Shinrei lays the top of his right hand's pointing finger on the metal piece and takes a deep breath through his nose. Afterward, he moves his hand back and the piece of metal slowly rises out of the woman's stomach, causing her some pain in the process. She begins to squirm, and you have no choice but to hold her down with your own two hands and shush her. Once Shinrei is done, you quickly put both your hands on her stomach and proceed to cast the healing spell.

"Pimp is..." Your hands lighten up. You feel a tremor, a vibration going down your spine. "--power," you finish your sentence. Your hands go numb at the massive amounts of mental energy coursing through them, slowly moving to the tip of your fingers. Although a rather moderate amount of prana for normal spellcasters, you are still learning healing spells and you aren't the best at them. Regardless, you do your best. The energy leaks out of your fingers and into the wound, filling it with a shining green light as streaks of it coil around your hands, almost like some kind of unnatural bio-lightning that is not quite lightning at the same time. The green energy explodes in her wound, filling every corner of her body and temporarily lighting up her eyes with the emerald color. You move your hands back.

The wound and blood are gone. A miracle.

You smile at Shinrei and order him. "Carry her to the ship, I need a rest," you sit back in the sand, taking a few deep breaths. The amount of prana you just channeled through your body was truly extraordinary. It was huge, even by your standards. You feel spiritually sickly as if your soul had weakened temporarily due to fatigue and it clearly recoiled on your body somewhat too. The healing energy crystallized into its form at the tip of your hands, but before that, you had to channel tremendous prana through your very nervous system. It was taxing. You feel pain. And numbness. All over your spine, shoulders, arms, and hands. Shinrei focuses and elevates the half-conscious woman into the air with his mind, slowly taking her elsewhere.

...

You rest for twenty seconds. Then you get up, take your pimp-staff in your left hand and walk back over to the ship.

You enter the small emergency room. It was hard to call it that. It was but a bed carved out in the wall with a few medical cabinets. Shinrei was sitting down on the floor there, with the woman resting on the bed, now with her eyes open. She was still not perfectly rejuvenated -- a testament to your lack of skill. Despite putting in all your energy into treating her, she did not make a full recovery just yet.

The woman looks up at you. "W-Why did you... help me?" she asks accusingly. You can't blame her. You'd probably ask the same if she shot you down then decided to save your life. Anyone would probably ask the same if they were shot down and saved by the same person that shot them down.
  1. "Shut up, mortal. Henceforth, you will serve I, the Pimp, also known as the Dealer. The ruler of these vast deserts. You will serve me or die!"
  2. "You owe me now. You'll make a fine slave."
  3. "You owe me now."
  4. "Because you're more useful alive. Tell me who sent you and why."
  5. "A fool's question. I saved you from death. That is not a means, that is an end."
  6. "Calm down, stupid girl. You're probably in shock."
  7. Keep quiet. Let Shinrei do the socializing. He's better at it anyway, more 'empathetic.'
Afterward, you walk away.

You feel a dull pain going down your spine, similar to a migraine but... in the spine. It quickly spreads over your whole body, filling you with discomfort. Probably just a side-effect of overtaxing your body with channeling psychic energy from your soul into physical form. You remember the Fanoros Fictionomicon mentioning this. Using too much magic for one's own power level at once causes pain, numbness, and other dark sensations, including headaches, and nosebleeds. The same would go for improperly trained mages using their powers. They tend to draw on too much energy at once and then discarding it into real space once it's not required, causing psychic phenomena that can be quite disturbing -- things like portraits crying blood, food rotting in seconds, or gravity reversing in an area for a few seconds. The psychic energy seeks a vessel and a meaning in the universe and manifests as random things outside the untrained mage's influence. The more unpleasant effects sometimes open holes in reality through which demons can leak in and start incursions. That's why witchhunts are so common on primitive planets.

Enough theology lessons. You'll be here for a few hours. Might as well do something productive.

  1. Snort cocaine like you always do. (+1 Insanity.)
  2. Meditate to regenerate your prana more quickly and get rid of the pain. (+200 prana.)
  3. Meditate to get rid of the corruption and insanity of your soul. (-7 Insanity, -1 Corruption. +50 prana.)
  4. Retrieve the Fanoros Fictionomicon and study it. (+50 prana. +50 max prana.)
  5. Speak to Shinrei and the Pilot.
  6. Help the servo-skull in its operations to get this over with more quickly.
  7. Go on the desert and shoot stuff. (+1 Ballistic skill.)
  8. Go on the desert and stomp stuff. (+1 Weapon skill.)

120 Bolts (Ammo)

5. Checking in on progress.

With 6 hours to spare, you get to work.

You spend one hour meditating and refilling your soul, invigorating it with a fresh supply of prana absorbed from the environment which wasn't particularly rich. (+200 prana.)

Afterward, you meditate another hour, this time reflecting on the inner workings of your mind and how it is connected to your soul. After a while, you feel a bit better. You can think a bit more cleanly and you aren't as jaded as before. It seems that your pains have also gone away. (-7 insanity. -1 corruption. +50 prana.)

Next, you go back to the medical closet. Shinrei is talking to the pilot of the ship you shot down. You approach slowly, scaring the pilot. Shinrei merely stares blankly as can be, already being used to your vile presence.

(Up to two choices.)
  1. "What is your name, girl?"
  2. "Who do you work for?"
  3. "Why were you and your pal trying to kill us?"
  4. "What do you know of the man-eating fairies!?" (+1 Insanity.)

I need to run a Dark Heresy campaign the other day. Fuck it, maybe even a Dark Heresy-based Questing roleplay.

Screw it, let's vote here.
  1. Birdsie should run a Dark Heresy campaign. I will definitely participate. (Dark Heresy is a dice game that takes place in the W40k universe. The "You are a Space Marine in Space" thing takes place in a heavily modified parody of the W40k universe. It's honestly pretty enjoyable, but I'v)
  2. Birdsie should run a Dark Heresy-based Questing roleplay, similar to this one, however much more serious and with actual rolls, stats, and all that stuff.
  3. Birdsie sucks and can't run anything.
