Synopsis
A small group of people from a scattering of times and locations are time trawled to the 21st century by an unknown savior whose purpose is unknown. Each member of the group was innocent - about to be executed for a crime they didn’t commit - or by a mob for reasons such as racism.

Trailer to the movie Freejack for those who never heard of it. (LOL, and nm the mention of the futuristic world of 2009 in the trailer …)

There is no magic in all of this. This is pure science fiction. Your characters have been time trawled in a fashion very much like that seen in the movie Freejack. Unfortunately the methods used aren’t quite as exacting as the ones in the movie and don’t differentiate a human body from thin air. So your savior had to bring whole contraptions with you cut off by the rough sphere of the time warp bubble. All that could be controlled was the size of the bubble. Timing was literally everything.

But why you?

Characters
Each character must be unique. (IE I don’t want two witches.) The time of rescue should be prior to 1940 but no earlier than the 1700’s. This is largely for reasons of language. Your savior did his research before rescuing you. He KNOWS you are innocent.

The Witch

“BURN HER!”
“WITCH!”

The shouts of the crowd became a garble of screams. The young woman was, in truth little more than an apothecary and healer, with no malevolence in her. She had been accused it practicing witchcraft, of bewitching another woman with possession, of cursing cows and chickens. She knew her fate was soon to come - a fiery end to her recently miserable existence. Her body bore the wounds inflicted by her confessors. All around her was a bonfire just waiting to be lit. Soon …

The priest approached to ask her to seek forgiveness for her sins. It would have made no difference in the outcome. They just thought it would have her soul. There was noone to pray to that was going to come forward to help her. She could only look down into the flames as they started to rise and the heat increased and hope the end would be mercifully swift.

Suddenly the crowd gasped as the woman and pole vanished before the eyes leaving only a pyre behind. The woman suddenly found herself (still tied to the pole) in cooler air. But the pole was no longer on a platform or in the ground. Rather it had been cut at a depth that almost gave her feet purchase - almost. The weight of the pole was too much and pulled her to the side as she fell over. The top of the pole was stopped by a 2 foot log just high enough to catch her an instant before her body was slammed into the ground.

Someone - some magical force - had plucked from the grasp of death. But who - or what? Whoever they were they had taken some pains to ensure she wasn’t too badly hurt - beyond the injuries she had already suffered.

Female role
*Note: Let’s avoid the cliche of a Salem witch please. I do like a little authenticity though. (Wiki link may give you some ideas)

The Hanged Man

The mob had held the Sheriff at gunpoint. The outlaw whose neck was about to be stretched had committed a grievous murder according to witnesses. But the truth was that the accused was guilty of no more than being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Problem was, criminology in the Wild West wasn’t exactly the best. And the patience of the people had reached its limit.

The man found himself half beaten to death and black bagged before they even had the impromptu gallows ready - a noose and the nearest convenient tree. They slapped the horse and the rear and it took off without the accused. The “outlaw” started to fall to the ground stretching the rope taut…

To the shock of the mob all that was left was a shorter rope, cut a mere two feet above where the outlaw’s head had been. There was no sign of the outlaw. They hadn’t even seen him hit the ground. He had simple vanished.

… The outlaw’s feet hit the ground with the impact of having fallen from the height of a horse’s back. Hands still tied with a bag over their eyes it proved impossible to keep their feet. But they were still alive.

Male role, though technically a female could work.
Year and location of the hanging needs to be specified. Please do some research for the role for at least a little authenticity (1871-1885)
