Realistic or Modern Willow Creek Equestrian Center - Chatter

Raptor At Heart

Junior Member
Okay, this is our chatter.

I'll re-post the rules here as well as in the other threads, just to keep them in mind.

I've actually managed some rpgs on other platforms and I've come across somethings tat caused quite some conflict, so here are a few things I'd like to note (some of these might be close to the forum rules):

+ It's an equestrian themed roleplay, so I'd be please if it wouldn't venture to far away from the horse theme... whilst it's totally okay that your characters have a live away from horses as well, and whilst we can have them live it in the rpg, I wouldn't be pleased if this ends up to be a crime story or else.

+ This is an open RPG, so nothing too violent or too graphic please... romance is fine with me, same as kissing, just keep the bedroom doors closed please ;)

+ Please don't start picking on other charas outside of the rpg...
If your charas don't get along that's fine, they can actually fight when they want. It's totally okay if you think someone elses chara is a complete moron, just please don't start picking on other charas in the chatter. It has already caused quite some trouble in another rpg and I wouldn't like to have that again...

+ Please don't use your charas to pick on other players (I hope you won't)... so please don't leave a player hanging if your characters are doing sth together and you get in a fight... log in an write please so the rpg doesn't freeze completely.

+ I'd appreciate it if you'd post rather regularly and in not too short posts (so try and make more then 1 sentence at the time...) It's okay if breaks or 1-line-posts happen sometimes, but I'd appreciate it if it wasn't the normal case.
Please also tell if you want to leave the rpg or take a break. It's okay if you message me about it, just don't vanish ;)

Hello, I was wondering if disciplines outside of Dressage, Show Jumping, and Cross Country would be allowed? I myself am familiar with Saddle Seat, Show Hack, and Showmanship.

Hi,

sure we could some of them...

I do know about Saddleseat, wich would be difficult to train as the center doesn't really offer a <runway> to ride on. If you chara would be fine with a normal arena for training we could offer it.
I do know Showmanship at Halter - it's western but since the stud has some Appaloosas we could offer it as a cross discipline.

What is Show Hack though ? I've never heard of that before.

Looking over the character sheet, I'm a little confused what the character number is for? And should there be a place for the character's full name? And maybe nicknames, you mention that Aiden has one but it's never said?

Also, um. 14.5hh is 15.1hh. 16.9 hh is like, 19 hands? Hands are only 4 inches.

I have named it - and I've entered a space for the name... here, I'll quote in the form and show you what I mean:

Character Name
Aiden "Lucky" Weslake
This is where you should enter your charas full name, nicknames included in ""
I've just accidently dropped it when I copied the form to emtpy it in post 1

Your chara-nr. in the RPG: 1st This number is just to keep everyone able to count how many charas each player has - you can have multiple charas. Aiden is my first chara.
Age: I guess thats clear
Gender: I guess thats clear

Appearence (pic is okay):
You can add photo or realistic drawing in here, please just note some things like size as well.
Character: Your charas personlity - in sentences, if possible please.

Relevant family background/NPCs: This place gives you a chance to mention npc relatives that may come up in the rpg later or add some info an maybe a difficult childhood - the family background, as it says ... to avoid confusion...

Lives on the farm (yes or no): wether your chara wants to rent an appartement on the farm or not.

Job:
Your chara can have a job on the farm as well - so you can make him a trainer for example. Just note any normal job and any farm job here.

Equestrian Discipline:
Show Jumper/ Hunter The main disciplines your chara competes in / has competed in. If your chara has ridden a dressage competition once and is now a Hunter/Jumper you don't need to mention dressage here.
Competition Level: S* - active competitor The level your chara is currently competing in, based on FEI- /FN/ or special association standards) and wether your chara is an regularly active competitor or not.

Titles won (and at what age):

  • Pony Junior National Hunter Champion (Age 9)
Note in here if your chara as won any equestrian competition titles... and at what age it has done so.

Horses:
this part is to be repeated for every owned/ leased horse.
Horse name (Nikname): WC's Double Time (Thyme) Full name and nickname in ()
Breed: I guess thats clear
Size: I guess thats clear - you can enter the sizing in hh (Hands) or in m (meters)... or both
Gender: I guess thats clear
Age: I guess thats clear
Colour: I guess thats clear - the more detailed you are about the markings the easier it is to imagine the horse
Type: Warmblood type with massive hindquarters. This allows you to note a certain breed section (like Section C for a Welsh Pony) or a note about the exterior that makes your horse different from others of the breed (like the hindquarters from Thyme)

Discipline:
I guess thats clear
Strengths: Some character traits that make your horse good
Weaknesses: Some character traits that make your horse difficult sometimes (or all the time)

Story:
A background story of the horse and your rider... how did your chara get the horse, how are they playing together. You can use this to specify the character of your horse some more.

I'm not familiar with using a runway(?) for Saddle Seat so a regular arena would be fine. Show Hack is kind of a combination of Saddle Seat and Dressage? In the shows I partake in, it's judged similar to Saddle Seat. But competitors are required to use collected and extended gaits in addition to the normal ones.

Sry, I'm not a native speaker... and I didn't have the time to look it up...
Actually what I meant was a gaited horse arena - or at least the sand-filled course around a normal riding arena like you can see it on many pictures of Saddle Seat competitions.

Either way I'm beginning to think that Show Hack would actually fit in best of these 3 disciplines... but we can totally add all 3.

Alright !! Also, would our characters be allowed to own breeds other than Appaloosas, Trakehners, Hanoverians, and Apaloosa Sport Horses?

Mandalay Mandalay Sure! They would be regular patrons of the stable so no rules when it comes to that. Just like if you would board your private horse somewhere.
They can use the entire training area - the only restriciton here is that they should treat their horses properly and take responsibility.

So it's totally okay to own a belgian draft but it would not be okay to try training it in show jumping as the heavy weight of the horse + energy of the jump-landings could seriously damage the joints.

wickedlittlecritta wickedlittlecritta Cool - I'm looking forward to it ;)

I've changed the Orga on the stable a bit:

You can choose freely, what discipline you ride ... trainers are available for Dressag, Show Jumping, Cross Country and Show Hack/ Saddleseat (so she does both)
Jenny Weslake (the NPC Boss) is also regularly competing at Showmanship at Halter, so you can have your cara ask her for some tips. She's not a trainer though and you don't have to pay for the lessons ;)

A short note:

Please send me short message or post in here and tell me, wether your Chara's Horses are boarded in
a) regular stall with full height dividers + paddock + field time
b) regular stall with half wall height dividers (contact stall) + pddock + fiel time
c) loose barn with attached paddock + field time
d) activity loose barn with attached paddock and attached field

I'll note that in an orga-post, so in case of need everyone can check (we needed that info in another version of this rpg when a rider fell and was brought into the hospital and smb else had to take care for his un-injurend horse)
Oh, and...
If your characters need any ingame-help (like directions on where to go, advice on any personal issue ingame or info about any stable intern stuff) - they can now ask in the rpg without you having to open the chatter ^^

Ezra Talmond is an Info-Source-Character I made for you... and he's also a groom and stable attendant

Dereivka would be in either the loose barn or the activity loose barn--I'm not super picky, so it would probably make most sense to put her wherever the most other players' horses are.

Then it would be the activity loose barn... the loose barns are really more for stud horses (practically all of the mares and young horses are in the loose barns, some of the stallions as well.)

Well - I've spent a while riding at a stable where there were only loose barns and no normal stalls.

It basically is a big paddock (like the plan), sometimes with a field and sometimes it actually is a field with hay feeders and farm drinkers. The group of horses is in there at any weather, so normally there is an always open shed as well.

You bring the horse there after riding - so caring for the horse on a daily bases is the same. Usually patrons take turns in cleaning the loose barn - or some stable personal does it.
You either have to feed your horse manually with a bucket (this is something you can see a lot in small loose barn stables) or there is a "feeding station".
Feeding stations are either automatic (in wich case a horse can just walk up and the computer either chip-based releases food or not) or manually (normally it's a row of small stands with high dividers in between and at the ende there's either a long through that any horse can access via the stand or individual throughs each for 1 stand).

The loose barn concept provides some advantages and disadvantages... and not every horse fits in.

The activity loose barn is a new concept of the loose barn... it should provide a "most natural" way of keeping a horse. It privides a "racing course" for horses who show a <migrating> behaviour and some specialised roll over places as well as some natural jumps/trot poles for more active horses.

Wether competition horses can be kept on a loose barn / activity loose barn is a matter of believing or not. I know 2 regularly competing horses (one on international junior level) and one on local level and they both are doing fine.

Cold weather needs some more preparation like blankets and rugs etc. because the wind and rain aren't blocked by some walls. Hail and thunderstorms can be a problem too... not only if you have a nervous horse.

General advantages / disadvantages of the loose barn concept:

+ Horses do live in a herd - so this is more natural than being locked in a single stall with high walls.
+ Horses are outdoors - so problems that can be related to stall keeping (like some bad habits, e.g. cribbing or health trouble caused bybad ventilation in summer/winter) are reduced
+ More entertainment - this sounds odd, but if I were a horse I'd get bored in stall pretty soon. Some horses develope bat habits, some don't but generally some say that horses are more relaxed and less bored when they're in a loose barn.

- Horses do live in a herd - so the herd has to fit together... if they don't it can cause more trouble then use
- You have to catch your horse - this can get dicy if your horse is either not motivated or just doesn't like being caught.
- You have less control: in a stall your horse is like hermetically sealed - in a group it's not. So you have to be prepaired for more different scenarios of what can go wrong...

- There's a "higher" risk of horses getting hurt - I sometimes think this is just disbelieve... sure other horses are around and in case of some fight there could be a horse getting hurt... but the horse is also outside all the time and has to walk on different grounds all the day. So the risk of small accidents like taking missteps is actually lowered due to more balance and body feeling of the horse.

It makes sense! I'm from the east coast of the US, where most people don't have a lot of space, so most horses that aren't kept in traditional barns had some sort of shelter (usually a three sided turn out shed) and then were out in a field 24/7. Functionally that seems very similar to the loose barns or loose activity barns, just less fancy, haha.

Well - the base form of loose barns are pretty much fenced fields with a shed, some farm drinker and some hay feeder. The last one sometime is nothing more than a tractor tire on some wood to keep the hay inside away from the wet ground ;)

Actually - I've wanted tis stable to be state of the art (still for rather normal people tough) and a wee bit fany, that's why I've made it sound a bit more tan it actually is ;)

Hi, I'm actually going to open the rp right now since I don't know wether I'll be able to a´be online on time.

I'm gonna call it Willow Creek Equestrian Centre RP - so you can find it in the rps...
