Appearance
William is larger than most of his peers, standing at 6'3". His build is lean-muscled, athletic & broad across the shoulders. He keeps his dark brown hair relatively short; just long enough to be styled with gel at the front, one of the few concerns he actively takes regarding his appearance. His eyes are a tint of grayish-blue, while his skin tone is deeply-tanned, almost copper in color -- a token of his partial Cherokee heritage. A small diagonal scar is visible on his face, passing through the corner of his left eyebrow.
William's choice in apparel is less than adventurous. He tends to keep to button down work shirts, solid-colored tees, and dark blue jeans. Will avoids bright or fluorescent clothing, favoring drab and even dull colors. His favorite pair of shoes is a set of well-worn dark brown work boots. He wears a simple black wristwatch on his left arm and rarely leaves the house without a silver St. Christopher's medallion around his neck, often hidden in the collar of his shirt. Hendrix tends to habitually "overdress" in the Fall and Winter months, seemingly incapable of adapting to New York's colder climate compared to his native Georgia.
Persona
William is reserved and soft-spoken by nature, generally averse to boisterous displays of passion. Polite but distant, he's considered by many of his peers to be tense, though someone less charitable might call him a bit of a tightass. Given a chance, Will can be witty -- charming, even -- in a humble and self-deprecating sort of way. But with his once-outgoing nature long since buried, his demeanor of cautious distrust ensures that few ever see this side of him. The few that do manage to reach his inner circle find a surprisingly warm, loyal, and above all protective friend.
While he isn't the sort to go looking for a fight, Will isn't afraid to stand his ground in defense of himself or others (an attitude drilled into him by his father). Despite his upbringing in the Deep South, Hendrix is very open-minded -- thanks in no small part to his multiracial adoptive family -- particularly in regards to issues of racial equality and civil rights. Though he was raised in both Protestant and Catholic households, neither religion managed to stick. Nonetheless, this upbringing along with Maria's influence have left him with a distinct altruistic streak... when he chooses to embrace it.
When it comes to romance and intimacy, William isn't innocent... though he is relatively inexperienced. Casual hook-ups were never a part of his lifestyle. As such, he sometimes comes off as a bit of a prude.

Will was glad to come to New York as a young teen. Now, he wants nothing more than another escape. He counts down the days until he can walk off the stage with a diploma in-hand to visit the nearest Army recruiter and begin the next part of his life.

Background
Will was born in Atlanta on July 13th, 1977. His mother, a teenage girl with no way to support herself much less her newborn son, gave him up soon after. William was placed in the care of the state, bouncing around between various foster homes throughout Georgia for the first twelve years of his life. Several of his foster families proved to be neglectful; one was physically abusive. Despite his academic talent, William frequently acted out at school and ended up spending a stint in juvenile hall after a particularly nasty brawl.
Shortly before his 13th birthday, things changed when William met Scott and Maria Hendrix, a couple from New York visiting relatives in Georgia. Will formed an instant connection with the two of them and it wasn't long before they were signing the necessary paperwork to permanently adopt the boy, bringing him to their home in Brooklyn. Despite his unconventional upbringing (not to mention his different skin tone), William assimilated quickly into his newfound family, bonding closely with their biological son, Lance. Under the watchful eye and discipline of Scott -- an Army veteran and NYPD officer -- Will's temper abated and his behavioral issues dried up as he channeled his energy into more productive outlets, managing to make the honor roll at school and pursuing athletics, particularly martial arts.
However, in 1993, he woke up one night to a police officer at their apartment door. Maria had been shot and killed during a botched robbery following a late work shift. Scott spiraled into a deep alcohol-fueled depression, putting an abrupt end to his career and forcing William and Lance to look out for themselves over the course of the next year. Lance dropped out of high school and turned to less than legal means of putting food on the table, becoming involved with the 9 Tray Bloods and ultimately getting arrested for armed robbery. William has no one but himself to rely on now, with Lance serving a lengthy sentence at Sing Sing and his adoptive father an alcoholic wreck who needs more care from his son than vice versa. Left with little choice, Will hopes to lay low throughout Senior year so that he can earn his diploma before enlisting with the Army, leaving New York and its false promises behind.

- William is a seasoned fighter. Having been in more than a few street brawls as a youth, Scott encouraged him to channel that energy into formal training and self-improvement. As such, Will has wrestled successfully in both middle and high school, making the Varsity squad. He also pursued amateur boxing, winning several bouts over the years and even fighting for the Golden Gloves two years ago.
- William speaks decent Spanish, thanks to lessons from Maria.
- William speaks with a slight but noticeable Southern drawl.
- Of the few things he misses from life in the South, one of them is genuine sweet tea. He has taken to brewing his own when possible.
