Other Will the mobile app bring more kids onto Rpnation?

So, hear me out, I found this site in kind of a funny way. I was talking to one of my friends about my cringy past with online roleplaying, and he recommended this website if I wanted to get back into that kind of thing, so here I am. This is a pretty chill community, and I found out about this recent mobile app business. How many 12 year old (because every kid on the internet is 12) kids on their phones are going to find rpnation through the mobile app? And if there's like, a thousand forkin' kids that join the website all at once, what effect will it have on the community?

Honestly, I doubt it. RPNation's the kind of site you find after your first rp experience. Nobody purposefully searches for an rpsite on their first go. They usually end up on a forum or something on another site, stumble into it, and eventually find this place.

Even with the app, I doubt we'd get a flood of kiddos coming in here unless google apps puts it on the front page of the playstore or something. And as far as I know, the youngest kiddos I know of on here are thirteen to fifteen.

But honestly, even if we do get a bunch of kiddos in here, quite a few of them will eventually just stop using the site 'cause they're bored. I should know. Out of the ten or so people I came here with, only one of them's still semi-active.

AYYYYYYE BBY MMMM MISS ME?
Please get off my thread, I don't want your spam. I'm trying to have a real conversation.

Funnily enough, the person who brought me here is a "kiddo". Sunstone Sunstone *cough cough*. He's actually way more mature than I was when I was his age. So... thanks buddy.

Also feel free to tag as many people as you want, I need the traffic to make my bread relevant. :coolshades::coolshades:
EDIT: I'm rofl. MAKE MY BREAD RELEVANT? Not even going to edit that out. Shit, sunstone you might be more mature than me. :0

I mean, Sunstone DID make John Johnson, 40 year old janitor in probably one of the worst magic school rp's I've ever seen. It was beautiful. So shit, I'd say he's probably more mature than me haha.

Hang on, what? Send me a link. I need to see, I was SOO into those magic school role plays when I was like, thirteen. Then I moved on to edgy batman roleplays around 14. Then there was the ninjago phase... It was right around 15 where I opened my forkin' eyes.

Dalamus Ulom Dalamus Ulom definitely has a point there. I wouldn't go as far as he did saying nobody is actively looking for an RP site beforehand, but it is true that our hobby is generally speaking not viewed with good eyes. Normal roleplayers are treated as reality-split deviants or as porn writers who can't help but make it personal. This isn't a world-wide concensus but such views are definitely held for many considered "obscure" or "nerdy" hobbies, viewed as things to be ridiculed or as pornographic instruments and much rarely as signs of mental instability, reclusion or even psychopathy (albeit those last ones are progressively farther from the general view).

So it is doubtful we will have a massive influx of much younger members. However, there is still likely to be some and the overall writing quality will fall, as well as the maturity in some areas. But this won't be all that different, even if we were to hypothetically have that massive influx. Historically speaking, RPnation has always had a relatively young base with the vast majority of it's members being from their teens to young adults. We already have a handful of trolls and I doubt this is such a fragile site that it would collapse from a few more, especially if us senior members keep our eyes open to report important incidents. And while RPN's writing quality has proven to be amazing compared to most other sites, newer members probably wouldn't be completely illiterate either, and their level of dedication would not be all that different from your average roleplayer. As I keep pointing out everywhere, the unreliability of the commitment of the average player is a plaguing issue at the root of the death of a large portion of roleplays.

"Us senior members." Heheh, you have a lot to learn about me.

Some people are already well into their college years yet act five due to the anonymity of the internet while some middle-schoolers act more mature than other twenty-some-year-olds. Obviously physical age does tend to match mindset, but sometimes a person's mental maturity doesn't seem to catch up until they're a working adult. Admittedly, 12 seems pretty young for a site centered around writing and the development of a story/verse/etc, but like what others have already said, it overall seems nigh unlikely for an influx of middle school-aged people to really affect the site much. AFAIK, there are already plenty of people around that age on this site, and people new to roleplaying tend to get intimidated by and avoid more detailed RPs until they feel ready anyway, so I doubt the writing quality will drop by much.

Other than that, it seems that the rpn mobile app is really more for the convenience of those who frequent the mobile site, so it's really more for those who have already been using RPN rather than reaching out to others via the app store/google play.

The thing is, to most 12-14 year olds (and trust me, I speak from experience here) roleplaying doesn't mean what it does to the rest of us. It's not cooperative writing or a major story, it's "FNAF 24/7 roleplay livestream 18+"

So basically, you can rest reassured. By your own statement, either you are correct, in which case said 12-14 year olds will probably try to avoid our site and roleplaying in general, or that statement is false in which case even if they do come it's not a major problem.

My point was that the word "rp" in the title will intrigue them into joining the site, but will ultimately... become bored... and... yeah, you're right. ;0

Eh, I don’t necessarily feel as though writing quality will fall. Maybe maturity- I feel as though a lot of younger writers will obviously be less mature than the rest, but still. I’ve seen a lot of writers that have poor quality on here that are actually older, it just depends from person to person. Maybe I see more older writers that have poor quality of writing rather than younger writers because of the lack of younger writers on this site in comparison. Usually those who find themselves on this site tend to be more sophisticated in their writing. Generally speaking.

Then again, a lot of the younger writers do have very op or your typical ‘the most beautiful’ characters that are the best at everything, and nothing can ever stop them etc. Etc. Well, in my experience anyway haha.

While I can see where you are coming from, there are two things i think you are missing from the context of that quote. The first of is that it regards than expecations one could have for the scenario in discussion, which means that the assumption is that the vast majority of this influx belongs to the general case. So yeah there are adults with awful writing quality and kids who are born naturals, but it is careless to take the exception for the rule (nor your own experience over the logical functioning of something). Writing quality icomes from a mixture of passion, talent, focus, learning and experienced growth, and it often draws from a person's own experience in life and their ability to consider the hypothetical or abstract, meaning that by it's very nature a younger writer will generally be less skilled at it than an older one. This doesn't mean younger writers are any less for it, but simply that they have yet to develop the skills to produce writing of the same quality.

Now, while you did say you tend to experience a better writing quality from younger writers I would like to ask what criteria you are basing yourself off of. Also, this site has by a vast majority, last I checked, players on their twenties at the most, with (I think) many of those being on their teens or like 20-22, a pretty young age all things considered.

As for the second matter you forgot from that context is tht we're talking about people that just started looking for roleplay for the first time. I said the writing quality would drop not just due to age, but also because it would be an influx of players who between the various factors would be completely lacking in any form of experience in forum roleplaying and possibly even with writing in general.

The age range I’m speaking of is around 16-25 ish. I would consider the younger side of the writers. And thinking about it, a lot of these younger writers are between the ages of 16-25 haha.

I must’ve misread, because I completely agree that newer role players usually are less skilled than those who have been here longer, regardless of age. I apologise for misreading, I thought you meant just because of age writing quality would drop.

I see. Well, the discussion was mainly focused on people in their early teens, 12-14

Younger writers do tend to be less skilled too, I didn't deny saying that. Simply when you quoted me I wasn't referring to age as the lone factor. In fact, age is hardly the lone factor for anything, but usually the consequences of not being as old or young are what make age relevant, but those consequences can also be affected by other factors.
