The Isle of Armor; it was quiet as always, apart from bustling with the movements and sounds of a variety of wild pokémon. The Fields of Honor were relatively sunny, with the sun's rays beating down on the island and warming the air considerably, making it a perfect day for exploring and visiting the island's Master Dojo. In fact, said dojo was expecting a new student today... and let's just say, one particular current student wasn't too thrilled about it.

If he was being honest with himself, there were plenty of other things that Master Dojo student Avery could think of doing today that were better than this. Training perhaps... but no, Master Mustard had given him the task of meeting, greeting, and escorting a new student to the Master Dojo upon their arrival. Truthfully, he does not want to do it. He isn't exactly the super talkative type. However, he must admit that he's somewhat looking forward to crushing this new student in a pokémon battle. It truly would be entertaining, after all.

With his pokéballs rotating and orbiting in the air around his ridiculously tall top hat per usual, Avery rather slowly makes his way across the Fields of Honor to the Armor Station to await the arrival of the new student. What was their name... Belle, right? At least that's what he was told by Mustard... oh well, he knows who he's looking for, at the very least. She could be arriving at any minute now. He's hoping that this won't take long, so that he can get back to his private training back in the Potbottom Desert, on the other side of the island.

Finally, he reaches the entrance to the Armor Station. He decides that he'd rather just wait outside for the newcomer, so he finds a place to patiently stand and wait by the station's entrance. Hopefully, she wouldn't keep him waiting too long, for he already feels pretty inconvenienced by this.

Seriously, why me? I mean... probably because I'm Mustard's star student obviously, but still! I have better things to do than this...

The Isle of Armor... A paradise teeming with a variety of strong Pokemon and beautiful sights. However, despite what one may of thought when hearing that description, it was not meant as a place of relaxation and sight-seeing. It was on the Isle of Armor that the former Champion, Mustard, established the Master Dojo. It was here that people and their Pokemon were meant to unlock their potential and grow stronger, which was precisely why Belle was visiting today. The Master Dojo had quite the track record, with big names such as the unbeaten Leon having trained within its walls. But Belle wasn't aiming to train up so she could pursue the Champion title. Rather, she had a different path in mind. She wanted to establish herself as the next Normal-type Gym Leader. Of course though, this was a lot easier said than done. If Belle was going to try and take on the title of Gym Leader, she would need to prove herself as a capable trainer-And what better place to put herself to the test than at the Master Dojo?

Well, today was the day that Belle would officially be joining the studio after a long Corviknight flight to the island. By the time that the cab touched ground, the sun had risen high in the sky and the early afternoon was upon them. Belle could feel the warmth and humidity of the topical air as soon as she stepped out of taxi, accompanied by the scent of a salty breeze from the nearby beach. As someone used to the mainland's more mild weather, Belle could tell that the new climate would take some getting used to. But she wasn't anything if not adaptable. However, perhaps being clad in a sweater vest was not the best idea on her part. Yet such a minor inconvenience wasn't about to be put a damper on her mood- Not when she had someone to share the experience with her.

"Deedee~!"

Just as Belle stepped out from the cab, a short and round figure came bounding out after her. Though most of her team was content with waiting in their balls during the duration of the flight, Belle's Indeedee was another story. She was one of those Pokemon that insisted on being close to her trainer and got antsy when she was encapsulated for too long. Thus, she got to spent the flight to the island seated beside Belle. Now that they were free to leave the cab though, Indeedee's pent up excitement began to rear its head. She began to waddle her way into the station almost immediately, leaving Belle to thank their pilot rather hurriedly before she went to catch up with the dual-type.

Indeedee had cleared past the station's seating and convenience shop by the time that Belle managed to approach her. The Psychic and Normal-type had parked herself before the entrance door, clearly waiting for her trainer as she turned on her paws to face Belle, "Indee~!"

"Well, you're rather chipper" Belle commented as she momentarily adjusted her glasses at the Pokemon. Normally, Indeedee were known as calm and well-behaved Pokemon, which Belle's Indeedee was. However, she also had a bit of an excitable streak. So it came as no surprise to Belle that Indeedee had a bit of extra pep in her step, so to speak. They were in a totally new environment, with lots of new sights of smells. Despite this though, Belle wasn't a hundred percent prepared for when Indeedee took it hurry through the doors just as she pushed them open. It seemed that the bespectacled trainer had underestimated just how raring Indeedee was to go. "Goodness! Indeedee, wait!" Belle attempted to warn, but by then it was already too late. Indeedee had blown right through the doors- And right into the legs of a young man who was standing just outside the station.

If there was something that bothered Avery, it was having to wait for people. It was ironic on his part per se, considering one of the very reasons that he respected the pokémon Slowpoke so much was solely due to their willingness to take things slowly and patiently. Funny enough, he wasn't very patient with a lot of things due to his somewhat turbulent upbringing. Mustard, Honey, and his Slowbro were helping him with that.

It soon had proven that Avery wasn't going to be waiting as long as he had suspected, for very suddenly, a small female Indeedee came running through the Armor Station's doors and thus, almost immediately bumped right into his legs. He was mildly startled, nearly losing his concentration and therefore causing the floating pokéballs to jitter in the air unstably for a few second. He huffed, looking down in surprise at the pokémon in front of him and adjusting his circular-framed glasses. "What the--"

He cut himself off as someone, who was presumably this Indeedee's trainer, exited the stations doors rather quickly as well; the trainer was a young girl, seemingly around his own age, pale, with hair styled in a bob and white-framed glasses. She was clad in a normal type uniform, with some notable style choices of her own. Avery raised an eyebrow, his gaze meeting her's. He cleared his throat before beginning to speak more clearly.

"...Ah. Quite the entrance, I say," he muttered somewhat coldly. He was obviously not in the greatest mood about the situation. Could this be the new student of the Master Dojo? The psychic type trainer wasn't very impressed so far. She was quite the klutz... or at least, that's what he gathered from her rather unorganized arrival. Maybe he was too quick to judge, but he were right about her, well... it would be a piece of cake to excel against her in the dojo. "Well... might you be Belle?"

Belle
The Bookish Protégé
(Whew! I finally managed to utilize a fancy post! Credit to weldherwings!)

Due to the unfamiliar man being taller and therefore relatively heavier than Indeedee, the dual-type ended up harmlessly bouncing off of him and stumbling back a few steps. After briefly shaking off the sudden impact, the Pokemon tilted her head back in order to get a proper look at the other trainer. She found herself staring at the glint which came off of the man's glasses as he adjusted them, this sparking a sense of unease within her. Indeedee's demeanor drooped, much like a child's would when about to face an inevitable scolding. However, before anything of the sort could take place, Belle approached the Indeedee from behind as she retained a calm demeanor.

"See what happens when you do not watch where you are going?" The bespectacled woman asked the Pokemon, who glanced back at her with a quiet chirr.

In response, Indeedee focused her attention on the man once more and gave a polite, albeit quick, dip of her head before scurrying back over to her trainer's side. All the while, Belle watched before her eyes finally connected with Avery's. Her dark eyes glanced about the other, getting a sense of his appearance as he did the same with her. She had to admit, the man did seem to have a unique taste in clothing- what with pairing the Galarian Psychic-type uniform with a top hat and frilled cravat. But then again, it was quite common for Gym types to accessorize their uniforms- and Belle couldn't deny that she was one of them.

As the two got a feel for each other's presence, the man before her eventually cleared his throat to speak; commenting on Belle's rather unusual arrival. Belle pushed her glasses back a tad with her index finger in response, afterwards aiming a sideways glance at her Indeedee. "Yes, sorry. Indeedee here has always been the excitable sort and this is all very new for her."

As a result of being mentioned, Indeedee momentarily glanced between the two trainers. Afterwards, she fixed Avery with a slight smile, having since settled down in the presence of her trainer. "Deedee!"

However, the man seemed more interested in getting to the point as opposed to pleasantries and instead focused on asking the female trainer if she was indeed Belle. She nodded in response, soon tilting her head in the slightest. "I imagine you are here to escort me. They told me that they would send someone from the Dojo, but they didn't specify who... Might I get your name?"

ooc: nice! that's actually the same person who made the one i'm using, haha.

ic: Avery watched rather calmly, looking down at the smaller woman in front of him and her somewhat chipper pokémon. On a normal day, his own Slowbro might have been at his side; however, Slowbro was rather lazy in his free time, so he also didn't mind staying comfy and asleep inside his respective pokéball.

"Right..," he paused, thinking calmly to himself for a few moments. So, she indeed is Belle, the Master Dojo's new student. I can't say she's what I expected...

"My apologies for the lack of introduction. My name is Avery, psychic type student of Master Mustard at the Master Dojo." He gave her a slight smirk, typical of his rather arrogant nature. Truth of the matter though, before coming to the Dojo, he used to be far, far worse when it came to his arrogance. Now, he was less straight forward with it. "I was sent by the Master himself to escort our newest student... which, I would assume, is likely you."

He wasn't too impressed with what he saw so far. Not that he would say that out loud; not right this moment, at least. In his eyes, he found Belle to be rather bland. Clearly, bland wasn't his favorite quality. He scrutinized her somewhat, bringing a hand up under his chin for a short moment while looking her over rather intently. Oh Avery, where did your manners go?

"They didn't tell me you'd be a... normal type trainer." He blinked, going silent for a brief period of time. Normal type? So... bland. Why couldn't she be something more vibrant? Obviously, he valued psychic type Pokémon the most. His rather flamboyant attire made that fact more than clear enough, let alone the fact that he was a psychic himself, as shown by the pokéballs orbiting in the air around his top hat. Most humans weren't capable of pulling a stunt like that, but he was gifted at birth with telekinesis that made it possible.

If only he wasn't lacking in every other aspect of being a psychic. He tried hard not to think about that.

Belle
The Bookish Protégé

(Really? That's pretty funny 😂)

Though Avery attempted to remain as civil as possible, the trainer's disinterest was becoming more apparent- save for when Belle asked for his name. This triggered a smirk which replaced the firmly pressed lip he had going. What followed was him formally introducing himself as Avery, the Master Dojo's very own Psychic-type user. The lofty-sounding title did very little to stir any interest in Belle however. Instead, the woman merely glanced him up and down; all while retaining a neutral expression.

"I see. I imagine you take your type quite seriously."

Anyone in Avery's shoes probably would've thought that Belle was either incredibly dense by now, or had an extraordinary sense of gall. Here she was, faced with a man who was currently demonstrating his telekinetic abilities by rotating his balled Team around his hat with seemingly little concentration required- and that was her response? Of course though, unbeknownst to the other, Belle always thought more than what she actually said.

Avery's name did sound familiar, as well as his occupation. After all, pretty much anyone who lived in Galar knew of the family who dominated the League when it came to Psychic-types. Though their Gym wasn't part of the main roster for when the Challenge season rolled along, they were one of the strongest when it came to the off-season Gyms. Belle vaguely wondered if perhaps Avery had any relations to the family, but she wasn't about to start questioning a stranger on private manners such as family just yet.

Before much else could be said though, Avery too took his time to look over Belle- making it blatantly obvious by cupping his chin with his hand. This earned a stare from the newcomer, accompanied by the slight raise of one of her brows. Eventually, Avery admitted that he hadn't been expecting for her to be a Normal-type user. Honestly though, that was about as much as Belle expected. After all, Normal-types weren't as highly sought as other Pokemon since many trainers assumed that they weren't as good. Obviously though, Belle was on the other side of the spectrum and truly did believe in the type's potential and power.

"Why, yes, I am" Belle confirmed, "I've come here to train since I'd like to become the Normal-type Gym Leader at some point."

ooc: let's hope to god that i stay active enough here, now! job hunting and mental health issues have gotten me all over the place lately, but i'm working to straighten myself up!

ic: If it wasn't obvious in the beginning, it was for sure obvious with Avery's next response, just how self-centered he tended to come across. Especially when it came to introductions. "Why, of course I do. I'd be quite the lame excuse of a trainer if I didn't do that much..." It got more and more difficult to grin and bear the weight of what he truly thought of himself, but he wasn't going to cave. Especially not in front of a new acquaintance. The only people on the entire Isle of Armor that knew just how troubling Avery's past was were Mustard and Honey, which was already humiliating enough on its own.

Behind his closed lips, the psychic-type trainer grit his teeth slightly. It was irking him to not get a stronger reaction out of Belle than that. He was hoping she wouldn't notice how tight his jaw was in his irritation. Nonetheless though, he focused for a moment relaxing his jaw and straightening his posture a bit more. It was likely more obvious than he realized that there was something bothering the absolute hell out of him.

He covered his mouth partially with his hand, stifling a grin in response to her statement. Normal-type Gym Leader? Seriously? This seemingly was getting to be somewhat entertaining to Avery, and he had to try his hardest to not chuckle at just how ridiculously pitiful the title 'Normal-type Gym Leader' truly sounded to him. Oh well though. He couldn't tell her what she could and couldn't do, but he at least could try and deter her by excelling against her in the Dojo training.

"Gym Leader..? Huh. Well good for you. We're more alike than I realized," he mumbled with a slight pause, as if it was a chore for him to even speak at this point. "Perhaps you should know that you're looking at the future Psychic-type Gym Leader." Truthfully, Avery was itching to challenge and beat this girl in a pokémon battle.
