    summary


    at her core, riku is very much an earthbender, which means she's as stubborn as a mountain itself. if she doesn't want to do something, you're not going to make her. at least, not easily. you would have to talk her into it, which would take a WHILE. her parents have many stories of baby riku throwing hissy fits because she didn't want to take a bath, or refusing to eat because there were brussel sprouts on her plate. even growing up, when she began her bending training with her grandfather, if she wasn't in the mood, avatar rivro had to fight tooth and nail to even get her outside.
    aside from stubborn, riku is also a tad awkward. actually, she's very socially awkward. growing up in the family of the avatar, her family was adamant about privacy; especially with their newborn baby having just been born. but that privacy continued well past her toddler years. she had always been around just her family, she never really made a lot of friends. it's not that she didn't want to, she loved any excuse to get out of the avatar estate and to interact with others, even if everyone outside her house was only talking to her because of her avatar grandfather.
    when you strip away the avatar identity, from her grandfather or from herself, riku is kind, sweet, bubbly and outgoing. she loves meeting people, even if she can't read social ques all that well, but people mistake her for being dumb and naive. but do not make that mistake, she's anything but. she's still the avatar's granddaughter, and the new avatar herself, she's not stupid, her trust must still be earned, she doesn't hand it out freely.
    her number one priority is her family. always has been, and she's convinced it always will be. riku will do any and everything to protect her family and stand up for them against anything. it's where her impulsivity shows through, she jumps at anyone who she thinks is talking bad about her family, or has intentions to hurt them. riku is a good person, she just doesn't entirely know how to navigate the social aspects of the world around her. and now? she doesn't know how to control the massive amounts of power she's gained.

Aiza could be considered a multipotentialite of sorts. The White Lotus member has a wide range of knowledge while also not excelling in one particular thing. He is a jack-of-all-trades, offering a quick thought in a pinch.

While he understands that the members of Order of the White Lotus are meant to be peaceful and resilient, there is still the issue of his anger. For the most part, he holds things in and bottles his emotions up until they explode, though exploding leads to a crippling fear from the male. Once more, he'll reign himself back in to repeat the process all over again. If possible, Aiza prefers to self-isolate to avoid the possibility of losing his composure on or near anyone. Still, he has his tendencies to snap at others in higher stress situations.

Despite his hotheaded nature, there is a surprising delicateness to the boy that seems to make him a more fitting member of the White Lotus. One might describe him as the tired mom friend of the most recent Team Avatar, though he often resents that title. In a less stereotypical and title-placing representation, Aiza is a worrier, whether it be outward or contained. His goal is to keep the others safe, especially in the face of the oncoming and unimaginable future.

∘ intuitive ∘ it might be due to his hidden soft side that one might assume Aiza is not the most empathetic person, but it's quite the opposite. oftentimes, Aiza can pinpoint when someone is upset and is receptive to others emotions when needed. this kindness, however, does not extend to himself and he has a tendency to brush off his own needs.
∘ confident ∘ overall, the young white lotus member is a rather confident person when it comes to whether or not he can teach Riku what she needs. he has his moments of self doubt like everyone does, but he thinks he is a relatively competent enough person to keep the new team avatar in line (little does he know, he might be wrong). he also keeps his confidence in his choice to avoid firebending overall and though he doesn't believe himself to be a good person, he puts pride in himself for trying to protect others.
∘ resourceful ∘ when learning how to go from being a bender who doesn’t mind using his abilities to someone who almost never wants to touch fire again, Aiza had to pick up a few life hacks in order to be useful. because of this, he is quick thinking and will use whatever is available to him to get a job done.
∘ idealistic ∘ keeping his pessimistic thoughts in mind, it could be difficult to read Aiza as an idealist who strives for not only a better sense of self but strives for a better world for future generations to live in. he is a pacifist at heart, and while he clearly understands the call to action and the need for self defense, the white lotus member would love to see an era of true peace during his lifetime.

∘ hardheaded ∘ stubbornness is a vice that the firebender has yet to overcome. he is less than flexible and likes things to go to plan, which can be the source of quite a few arguments that he is not willing to back down from. in the end, the firebender can be a tough one to get along with and might do things out of pure spite.
∘ temperamental ∘ despite all the work that Aiza puts into not losing himself and all of the meditation he attempts to do in order to keep his bending and emotions at bay, he still manages to lose his cool from time to time. his frustration comes out as quick, sharp-tongued remarks more than anything else, though if the boy is alone he might blow off some steam by lighting things up or wrecking something that doesn’t have much value.
∘ self-condemning ∘ Aiza carries a large amount of guilt from his teenage years and though he strives to be a better person, he often experiences setbacks that feel like reminders of why he isn’t a good person. even when he feels as though he is getting a grip on himself, something pulls him back to remind him of everything he’s done wrong and he finds himself in anxiety’s grip.

Childhood
Born to two aristocratic and influential firebenders, life was both somehow easy and difficult all at the same time for Aiza growing up. Not a toe out of line could be allowed,

As a child, Aiza could have been considered rambunctious and precocious. It was clear to his parents that his emotions were closely linked to the power of his firebending, problems arising mostly when the child was angry. Due to his boisterous nature, his parents often tried to keep the boy from causing any trouble, from raising any concern from wandering eyes in the public image.

Aiza also grew up with a sister three years younger than him, though often times, he was kept from interacting too heavily with her in order to keep his wiles from rubbing off on the impressionable girl.

Teenage years
To say that there was a good relationship between Aiza and his parents would be an outright lie. Where his parents were strict, harsh, and cold, the nearly turned teenage was wild, adventurous, and seeking any form of disruption of his daily life that he could find. Who could blame him when it seemed everything was to be mapped out for him?

The last night of his considerably 'normal' adolescence, the boy found himself in an argument with his parents. Unkind words turned into a heated yelling match over the being a "poor influence to his sister" and ultimately, Aiza lost control. In the grand scheme of things, it all seemed normal. He'd gone to his room, slammed the door, and had paced around until his was practically boring a hole in the floor from his frantic steps. That's when the dark-haired firebender finally fled the scene, climbing out the window of his room and off into the night, but not before he trashed his room out of anger.

The spark had been lit, unknowingly, when Aiza left his house that night.

When the boy returned in the morning, he returned to ash and rubble where his family’s house had once been. The frame was now a desolate wasteland – bleak and lifeless – with nothing stirring other than still sizzling red-hot embers. The start of the fire had been traced back to his room, a seemingly small spark that had roared into a raging fire. Local authorities assumed that it had been a robbery gone wrong or something of the sorts, but Aiza knew better.

Now lacking true stability and a place to go, the boy was taken in by the Order of the White Lotus, of all possible options. He supposed he couldn’t complain about having a place to belong, however, there was a constant feeling of confliction at being in a group meant to promote peace and order after what he had done. Everyone in the Order was kind to him, far too kind for what he deserved, and Aiza couldn’t easily accept their openness. Only after multiple failed runaway attempts did the teenager discover someone who seemed to get it: another firebender by the name of Joru. Joru became Aiza’s mentor and the one to show the young boy how to control his emotions and his firebending. However, despite the training he underwent and the restraint that he learned, Aiza still harbors a hatred for his own abilities as a firebender out of fear.

Currently
Aiza is the youngest and the newest recruit of the White Lotus, despite his nearly ten years with them. While his older members have their hands full dealing with the brewing storm of political affairs surrounding Riku’s come to avatar-hood, the 24 year old has been sent into the minefield that is overseeing the new avatar’s safety. Not necessarily sure that he is cut out for the job, Aiza continues to study and try his best, reaching his skills over a wide content area to cover every possible corner that he can help with.

Riku



Growing up in the White Lotus, Aiza naturally had to spend a lot of time around the avatar, learning the ways of the Order and picking up on how to advise the future avatar once Rivro had passed. Of course, he could’ve never seen it coming that the new avatar would be Riku.
It is safe to say that their relationship is a bit complicated. Both Riku and the young White Lotus member were around Rivro when he was still alive, meaning that they saw each other often enough. From what Aiza had seen of her, there was no Earthly way that Riku was the avatar. At least, she surely didn't act like one. Moreover, Aiza has an easy time denying the claims that Riku's family paid Rakkon off to make their daughter 'special,' considering just how often she was around and being a total nuisance to the young boy's training. If the experiments done by Rakkon were meant to be something akin to torture, the possibility of Riku presenting her high-energy self outwardly would've been invalid. Due to the fact that he grew up knowing her, Aiza may present like he finds the new avatar to be a complete pest to his peace, but he will take up for her any day when it comes to silly rumors.

Mera was born to a single mother, one of many airbenders who lived in a caravan of travelers, those who found they could not settle in one place and simply must travel around. Her father was an Earth Kingdom citizen, a man from a town the caravan had stopped in at some point. Centuries ago, it had been tradition to leave the young at an air temple for training, left in the care of the monks who lived in the air temples. Times change, however, and Mera's mother wasn't terribly keen on giving up her baby to be raised by someone she didn't know. Mera grew up in the caravan, spending her days traveling from place to place, meeting new people and seeing new sights. There were other kids in the caravan, and one particular kid she took a shine to. His name was Luca, and he was only slightly older than her, but the two for the most part were inseparable. They'd get into all kinds of shenanigans together, pranking the other caravan members, going out exploring when the group made stops and getting lost. It wasn't uncommon for them to be found hiding out on rooftops and generally making a mess with their games. Their life was a peaceful existence. Any conflict that may have arose for the caravan, Mera was shielded from, remaining blissfully unaware in her youth. But innocence cannot remain forever. As she grew, Mera showed an innate aptitude for higher levels of bending, and she quickly surpassed what the other members of the caravan could teach her, as none of them happened to be masters themselves either. After a long and tearful debate, it was decided that Mera would leave the caravan to go train at an air temple. She promised she'd come back when she was done, and would try to get messages to them as often as possible, but it was clear from the way everyone said their goodbyes that she may not see them for a very, very long time.

Adapting from a life of carefree roaming to one of intense study in a stagnant location was not easy for Mera. There were kids at the temple much younger and far more skillful than her - it seemed for a time that her mother's decision to hold onto her child had done more harm than good. Meditation wasn't a practice Mera enjoyed, but rather was one that was forced upon her, along with several other practices. Despite these setbacks, however, Mera persevered. She stuck to her studies and did her meditations, and quickly her skill grew. She was a gifted bender, for sure, but not quite to a master's level just yet. The lack of internet and cable TV also was a drag - there was nothing to do there except for bending. Cell service was all but nothing, and Mera struggled to find the time between training and other temple duties to sneak out like she used to. She could manage one text a day at best, and that was provided she could even find service. The one upside, however, was when they got to play board games. Mera looked forwards to game night every week, as it gave her something to spend her time doing. Mera made up her own games, which helped her make friends again, as they'd often gather around to listen to what adventure the game's story would tell through dice rolls. Though she made friends none of them could compare to the fun times she used to have with Luca. There were still pranks to be pulled and shenanigans that ensued, but as Mera grew, she found herself enjoying them less and less. Homesickness wasn't something she assumed one without stationary home one could have. She missed her mother, she missed going places and seeing new things, and most of all, she missed Luca. The days turned to weeks, to months, to years. Slowly, her progress slowed to a halt. Homesickness had taken its toll, leaving her depressed and unmotivated to continue her training.

When the White Lotus came looking for a teacher for the new Avatar, Mera wasn't expecting to be selected. She wasn't a master by any stretch of the imagination - still just a student, and not even a well-performing one at that. She'd not attended lessons in weeks, and quite frankly was on the verge of just running away, going back home. If anything, Mera was probably the least qualified to teach. That didn't seem to dissuade them from choosing her, though. She had a sneaking suspicion that they chose her to get her out of the temple without having to remove her themselves. Frankly, Mera was glad to be out of that stuffy temple and back on the road again, even if it would be just for a short while.

Summary
A fiercely determined individual who lacks set roots in the conventional culture of any particular nation, having grown up on the lowest rungs of Republic City, the proverbial melting point of cultures. Less stubborn and rigid than your typical earth bender, she is no less willful, if she has a goal she will be steadfast in achieving that, not taking a step back yet extremely fluid in the road she takes to get there. This likely stems from the necessity of her upbringing as a street orphan needing to learn to adapt to survive, with several experiences tempering and hardening them despite her younger age. She is highly observant of individuals and her surroundings, rarely acting without a motive or plan, and always looking for opportunities to learn herself.

As a result of this, she is also far more morally flexible, willing to take in anything she can to advance but still a pragmatic down-to-earth realist when it comes to tackling problems. She can be aloof when it comes to dealing with issues, constantly moving and walking on rather than letting the weight of problems drag her down. She has repeatedly stated her intention to not take a step nor look back, only advancing forward and up. She also seems to constantly reinvent herself as the situation requires, her use of dyes and contacts can almost make her seem like a different person at a glance, though honest interactions will quickly reveal her to be the same, Chantal.

This flexibility also comes across in her bending style, often incorporating anything she has observed and can use to develop something entirely her own, in particular her tendency to do more with less. She is not one to always be big and obvious, knowing the benefit of subtlety and precision yet recognising when the former is needed. Lacking formal teachers she appears to possess a raw natural talent and intrinsic understanding of her element that differs from most earth benders, which combined with her own hard work allowed her to develop on her own path as opposed to the established bending forms handed down through the generations.

While not one to hold grudges in particular, she will often quickly use past slights as leverage when possible out of practicality, while still quickly brushing away her own wrongs in a somewhat hypocritical manner. Speaking of her own wrongs there are a great number of them, mostly related to some form of larceny and lack of respect for official authorities.

This is not to say she has no code to live by, she herself has shown a peculiarly keen interest in the teachings of an obscure long-dead scholar Baek-Hyang. Keeping an antique memoir of sorts relieved from a travelling merchant, she found the messages to resonate with her and often returned to it when facing difficulties and hard subjects. In particular, her most recent predicament requires the protection of a larger name that leads her into the role of an earth-bending teacher for a false avatar.

Backstory:
She has at times wished she could recall her early childhood, in particular, her parentage but the truth remains as long as she can recall she has been surviving on the streets under one group or another. Parental figures and other street kids would come and go through either misfortune of sickness, their deeds catching to them, or moving on in a more positive way. The world around her would constantly be constantly, and so she changed with it to find herself the right place for the right moment. Needless to say, this was not exactly the positive one with the best influence, often being found useful in distractions, and pilfering to get what she needed, a lifestyle that only advanced with her age to larger scores.

As she rose higher this lifestyle would unfortunately not be one that could last, falling on the wrong side of a few deals gone wrong and making to take the fall she quickly ran out of people to rely on or trust. Caught between criminal groups seeking her out, and authorities wanting to make a nice arrest for their record should the fighting escalate and gain their attention she had instead chosen evasion and moving, but obviously, this would not be able to last.

These events would come to a head in the shipping district, cornered and with no leverage or hope of using reason her options naturally fell into conflict. Being one of the rare occasions where she forwent subtlety it would take her aggressors by surprise with the force in which she employed, her footwork light and moving fluidly as she attacked with the full breadth of her element, including her own particular creation of glass-bending. It would just so happen that the event would catch the attention of the White Lotus in search of an earth-bending teacher, and with her seeking the opportunity for protection under the organisation's name naturally came to a mutual agreement.

Ain was raised to be a strong, proper young lady. Only one of those two traits stuck. Ain is chronically independent, using her strong will to do anything and everything on her own. There is nothing she feels she can’t accomplish with her own two fists— hands. Honestly, it doesn’t help that her independence is only reinforced by the fact that her less-than-friendly attitude tends to push people away. She is blunt and straightforward, and despite the fact that she herself needs this, she doesn’t like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Ain is fiercely loyal to those who somehow manage to earn her trust. She will protect the people she cares about with her life— and when she puts her all into something, there is no stopping her. Impossibly stubborn and overly determined, one must wonder what it is that fuels her. There is a lot of pent-up anger that guides Ain, and often that anger does fuel her endeavors, but sometimes it may lead her astray. There are times when no logic or reason is enough, and the only way for her to make sense of things is to utilize this anger as violence. She finds peace in conflict and fighting. At certain points in her life, that was all the girl knew. Ains first and only answer to a problem is to fight it, and that sometimes proves detrimental.

Born to a fairly wealthy, politically well-known firenation family, Ain grew up in a life of luxury. Nannies cared for her and her four elder siblings and world renowned teachers from all over the world taught them from birth. There was seemingly nothing she would not be provided. Despite all of these luxuries, there was one thing that a child could not thrive without; a parents love.

I know I know, pretty cheesy.

Ain Shee was born the youngest of four powerful fire benders. Throughout her family history there were many fire benders of great renown. It was how they had grown in fame. Her great great grandfather had been a pro-bender, one of the most famous in the nation. His children had followed suit, so on and so forth until we reach Ain Shees mother. Her mother, a retired pro-bender, married Ains father, an all too well-known politician. The marriage was fueled not by love but by the prospect of strength. In theory, their children would all be relatively strong fire benders, and with their parents fame it was doubtless that they would themselves achieve fame and success. One by one, each child each child proved their worth. By the fourth child, Ain Shees elder brother by three years, they felt they had created the perfect child. Imagine the disappointment when their fifth and last child was born a non-bender. They couldn’t understand where they had gone wrong, and there was no training, threats, or danger that could make her a bend. It was clear that as soon as she proved herself powerless, a scarlet letter was placed on her. The whole family treated her as if she were a stain on the family name.

Still, Ain trained with her siblings. Through blood, sweat, and tears she trained her body and mind. She grew in martial ability, even besting some of her siblings in hand-to-hand by the age of ten. This wasn’t enough. There was no parental praise or sibling banter. Instead, her siblings spit at her. They taunted her with dancing flames that burned her soles and laughed as she cried uncle. To them, their weak little sister and her lack of ability was laughable. There was nothing in this world that would make her their equal. More and more was she shunned, abused, and neglected. Thus more and more did she grow resentful of benders, particularly those who looked down on her in any way, shape, or form.

When she got older, Ain chose to occupy her time outside of the home as frequently as she could. She took up extra training and meditation. By the time she was sixteen she had fully trained her body and mind. Masters trained her in a variety of weapons and physical arts. Ain even trained against benders, teaching herself the fighting styles of various nations in order to best combat them. Time and time again she received serious beatings, as these benders weren’t trained professionals. Instead, Ain found any bender on the street who wanted a fight. Three years of this and she started to perfect her craft. Ain was capable of holding her own against benders, sometimes even besting them. With newfound confidence and freedom, at eighteen years old Ain left the family home. She cut off her parents and siblings, though it wasn’t very difficult as they were never particularly interested in being involved in her life.

But Ain didn’t leave home without a plan.

Ain left home and immediately found herself in an underground boxing ring. She made her money from fighting. Bloody noses and bruised fists were a constant in her life, and she loved it. While it was mostly for non-benders, the occasional bender would find themselves thrown in the ring. Ain loved when that happened. Rather quickly Ain found herself the number one fighter. She made a name for herself, moving across the nation to fight different people. Fighting was the only thing she knew, and now she was making an immense profit from it. There was a particular delight she found in fighting fire benders. It reminded her of the times her siblings taunted her with licking flames. It was all fun and games until the ring she was fighting in was busted. Ain found herself and everyone who couldn't get out fast enough getting apprehended. There wasn’t much she could do but take it. She was sure she was going straight to prison-- until the officer just let her go. A man quickly pulled her aside. Go to jail, or help train the avatar. Well, there wasn’t much of a choice was there?

Sometimes, Junto can seem quite childish. Once he gets going on something, it’s hard to get him to stop, and he tends to enjoy creating just a bit of chaos in order to spice up a situation. If he finds someone who enjoys arguing, they will almost definitely be a target for his antics and he will attempt to rile them up. On the flip side, big changes fail to scare him and he takes things in stride and handles them as they come. Cool under pressure, often level-headed in a poor situation, and considerably good at talking others through things, Junto can be quite the reliable source in a pinch. He also fails to be stubborn or opinionated and tends to be more of a leader than a follower. This makes him a rather easy-going and moveable force to work with in a team setting.

Though he loves to spend time with others and enjoys good company, the waterbender will also seek out some peace and alone time in order to convene with his social battery and nurse it back to health. He’s an extrovert, but it doesn’t mean he never tires of anyone, especially after putting on quite the show in a group setting.

When it comes to looking out for someone, Junto is caring and can be nurturing. He believes wholly in mental wellbeing and taking time for one’s self, which can put others in a static position when pushed too far. He’s not the motivating sort when the tough gets going, really. He might push, but there will never be a true shove from his direction unless there is an impending deadline ahead of them. These traits make him a comforting person to come to one on one, though teeter the line of almost too baby-ing. On the whole, he has a heart of gold and would like to take care of everyone and make sure they are at peace.

Childhood
There is not much to tell regarding Junto’s childhood. While everyone else seems to have had their own trauma, the boy grew up in a decently loving family in the North Pole, surrounded by great architecture, a thriving community and plenty of places to learn waterbending. He and his parents were close, and his maternal grandparents were still alive for the most pivotal years of his childhood, much to his luck. The only notable thing is that the youngin was actually a late bloomer when it came to his bending. While the other children of the North were learning from masters at particularly young ages, Junto was into his teens before he could ever get a lick of his bending to work with him. Of course, this frustrated him at times, coming from a line of greats - from waterbenders and healers alike - though he often just assumed that was the way it was meant to be. Maybe he was meant for something else!

Teenage years
Bending didn’t come easily to him like it had the other kids of the North Pole. Which was fine, all things considered, though a bit of a surprise to not only himself, but his parents as well. At fourteen, something seemed to have clicked, a flip had switched. While training in hand to hand combat (much like he had done since learning his bending was a no-go), Junto accidentally froze his opponents feet into place among the snow. At that moment, everything stopped. Quite literally. The fight had to come to an abrupt end, as they had to chisel the other kid from the ice when Junto had no clue how to undo his doing. Once in swordsman training, he was promptly pulled and placed back into waterbending classes with a master. From there, somehow the previously thought non-bender excelled quickly. It was called raw talent, insane power, a total miracle. After only six years of training, he has surpassed his peers who had been practicing for years before him. Although he was a quick learner, Junto never boasted about it, and more thought of his coming to power as just some dumb luck.

Present day
Upon receiving a visit from the White Lotus, Junto couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He showed great promise and was close in age as the newfound Avatar, which made him a prime choice to be her waterbending teacher. At first, the young man had stood in his ice-formed house, completely in shock. The new Avatar was... his age? How did that work? Did it just- happen? But there wasn't much time to question the storyline. His gradnparents had spent his childhood raising him on the stories of the Avatar and the generations before, how they always seemed to bring balance to the world. It didn't take much considering for him to decide that it was time to pack up and leave the North Pole behind in lieu of helping out the ultimate peacekeeper of their world. Within a day, he was packed and ready to go, shipping out on his own journey.
