The Beginning

Historical record in the world is finicky at best, cyclic apocalyptic events wipe away civilizations and nations and with them the history they accumulate. Many scholars theorize that this cycle has been going on for millions of years. However Ogden is well known throughout the world as the oldest nation in existence, with history going all the way back to its origin twelve thousand years ago. It Started with the three Nomadic tribes of Ur, Og, And Tic. Together they were a total of thirty three people who had decided the mountain cave was their best possible home. This den was currently occupied by Ogres and as such the nomadic tribes set several traps for them and drove the ogres out. Afterward the three tribes would fight amongst themselves for a few weeks to determine the leader and The Tribe of Og emerged victorious thus the Cave was called the Den of Og. After a few decades had passed a town had grown and the idea of laying foundations for large settlements began to spread other nomads formed towns and cities and The Den of Og Became known As Og’s Den. After another two hundred years the name once again changed becoming the City of Ogden. From there they would expand, carving the mountain into a great fortress over the next thousand years and expanding into neighboring territories creating several surrounding towns. The first war of history, The War of the Plains, occurred another three hundred years later, when these surrounding towns grew into five cities which would raid Ogden for nearly a century during the vast famine. This war ended when the Ogden Created the First ever Airforce, and the largest city wall in the world. They brought the neighboring cities to ruin and occupied them with Ogdenian’s. Peace remained for a time until the Age of Fire came.

None are sure how they initially arrived as they seemed to come from the opposite side of the world to Ogden but soon the atmosphere was filled with Scales and Fire. Cities the world over Burned and all seemed lost until A young Scholar in Ogden named Ezekiel discovered a strange energy the Dragons possessed called Magic. Learning to manipulate this energy would allow the mortal races to grow powerful enough to overthrow the dragons who had conquered nearly all the world. The Dragonic leaders were felled, their gatherings scattered and the population decimated in a long ordeal lasting five centuries. During that period the first schools of Magic were formed being Combat Magic, Craft Magic, and Agriculture magic. After the dragons were driven into the wilderness a combination of fear and and curiosity inspired magical adventurers to spread throughout the world seeking new sources of the mysterious energy while simultaneously hunting down the remaining dragons as they were regarded as evil beasts. Many cities were rebuilt and repopulated, many were abandoned, Magic would become widespread and common and the maps of the world would become filled, however the wheel of Calamity turned once more, on the two thousandth year after the dragons first leader rose, the mortals of the world would discover a civilization far more ancient and powerful than themselves.

The Age of Ice

Far to the North, as far as one can go before north becomes south, there exists a wall that one would not be faulted for mistaking for a mountain range. Explorers had found this wall a decade before but it wasn’t until the 2000th year of the age of Fire that they would have enough gathered there to use their combined magic to open the door…and from it came an unparalleled force. The Titans had long sat behind their wall protected from the Wheel of Calamity by great Magic’s. For ten thousand years they had developed and grown and with man entering their territories for the first time displaying their weakness to the giant godlike beings, they decided it would be all to easy to take the rest of the world for themselves. These Titans marched Southward and brought with them countless mutated creatures, trolls, treants, and giants of all kinds. The mortals had no hope of doing any more than slowing them down but that was just enough for the legendary warriors to sneak their way into the giant lands and destroy the giants Capitol by sabotaging the source of the giants magic. Of course by then the City of Ogden had mustered the single largest army in all of history, numbering at over twenty million men and women. The Loss of magic for the Titans was so sudden that many were mid spell when the power left them, the result was the near extinction of the entire giant species and the total collapse of their civilization. The Legendary heroes who raided the capital of the Titans never returned from beyond the wall and their names have since been lost to history, however on the very same night, five new constellations appeared in the stars. Scholars believe that they represent these heroes, they are a Rabbit, a Crocodile, a Wolf, a Raven, and a Horse. Fortunately the Titans invasion only lasted a mere seven years. While a few more battles were fought during that time period the majority of the time was spent developing the civilization into a golden age unlike any before it, thus the Age of Ice is often referred to as the Golden age or the age of Heroes. The Remnants of the Titan forces would eventually reunite and take their place beyond the wall brokering a tentative peace with the rest of the world.

The Age of Stone

On the Two thousandth year after the Titans Gate was opened a new threat rose. Literally, it was discovered that hundreds of miles beneath the surface of the world at the worlds core there was another world known as The Deep. There dwelt twisted versions of all that the surface held. Their forces rose from all over the world and raided many cities including Ogden. Their advanced technology included gunpowder and explosives not to mention toxic gas. Yet this was balanced by their lack of powerful magic resulting in a gruesome stalemate for centuries where each side would send forces to each other only for the forces to break upon the defenses of the other. Countless millions died in this conflict until eventually both sides seemed to taper out and both resources and Reserves of troops ran dry. However the Surface was much larger and recovery was possible, unfortunately the subterranean world had already burned most of its resources prior to the war, in fact many scholars suggest that very lack of resources to be the reason for the invasion which would have in turn burned away what little resources remained. Two hundred years after the war no subterraneans were seen for several years time and eventually this spurred an expedition of troops and diplomats who discovered a barren desolate world of empty homes and cities. Indicating that the subterraneans had driven themselves to extinction with that last war. The rest of the era following that was somber, the population had been cut more than in half and rebuilding was notably difficult as much of the land was toxic. However nearly a thousand year after the war things stabilized and rebuilding measures were completed it became possible to launch further expeditions which eventually confirmed their extinction and yielded technological developments that were impressive to say the least. Eventually however all that could be found there was, and the structural integrity of the buildings had begun to wane so the tunnels were sealed and the subterranean world deemed hazard

The Age of Death

With the subterranean world being blocked off and guarded no one was really able to foresee the danger growing there until it was too late. A young Tiefling Necromancer made his way into the subterranean world and slowly began rituals to the gods of death to harness his power. He was successful in becoming the first vampire god and used his divinity to steal the death gods power. From there he linked the subterranean world to Hell and created numerous demonic undead hybrids which sprung forth onto the surface in several regions like a flood. This tide of dead flesh washed away entire cities and dropped the population of the surface from several hundred million, to only a couple of hundred. Many assumed that this would be the end until the royal princess of Ogden managed to take the three legendary artifacts of their kingdom which had only just been completed, and used them to slay the Vampiric god which dispelled his enchantment of darkness, which allowed the sunlight to destroy all but the most basic of undead. From then on the job title of Monster hunter would exist and people would journey far and wide seeking these infectious creatures to wipe them out. Unfortunately the rebuilding phase would be very long as it took many many generations just to reach the population they once had, and the somber feeling would not fade for many centuries as the growing populations hardly ever built new homes and instead occupied the homes long abandoned by those the dead hordes devoured and converted. Civilization eventually managed to bounce back, but the glory they once had was gone, ancient knowledge was lost and entire millennium worth of magical progress lost. This was the beginning of what they called the decline of mortals.

The Age of Fallen Stars

Eventually Mortals would finish rebuilding, and while they managed to gain the technology and magical knowledge they once had, they had seemed to have lost some of their curiosity and ingenuity. This would unfortunately cause the development of the world to stagnate but it would allow the overall power of the individual to grow as more and more people gained access to magic and gunpowder. Unfortunately this to would pass, two thousand years after the ground vomited up the dead and the world was nearly lost, stars began to fall from the heavens. These stars wound up being the crafts of the Djinni who assaulted the world with a mixture of magic and technology unlike anything before it. For three decades mortals struggled but every effort was met with futility as the Djinni dismantled every effort. Eventually mortals became hopeless enough to use the weapons of their old hated enemies. They unleashed the magical virus of the vampire god into the alien population and the split of their forces allowed mortals to bring an end to the Djinni, the undead that would remain became the new target of monster hunters and mortals would once again enter an era development and growth as a whole new thing to explore was introduced, the vessels and artifacts of the Djinni which littered the world now, many of which still having their original occupants either infected or not.

The Era of Madness

After the Djinni invaded many scholars gathered together to observe history and try and piece together what was lost when the Djinni attacked our libraries and museums. They found that the calamity that befell the mortal world could be tracked in a 2000 year cycle, they quickly published their findings spurring a new era of preparations where the people’s all across the land would gather food, water and Supplies, while encouraging the development of combat and survival skills creating entire generations of rugged survivalists, and mighty warriors unlike any era before it. Self sufficiency became one of the number one goals and once again the power held by the individual grew exponentially. Unfortunately for the world this would spell their doom as the new Calamity would be one that targeted not the cities and homes of people but their very minds. It rose up everywhere at once, a strange madness washed over people and they descended into utter chaotic violence. While nowhere was safe from the spread of the madness the worst place one could be when it started was the cities. Especially Ogden who had opened its gates to for the rest of the world to come inside and be safe in the decade leading up to the scheduled calamity. This caused the population of that one lone city to swell all the way up to nearly twelve million souls. However not all fell to the madness, of all the world perhaps one tenth of a percent of people were immune to the madness, they would unfortunately live to be the targets in the crazy ness to come. Only 24 hours have passed since the calamity began and already communications between kingdoms has been lost, all organization fallen into chaos, and the death toll is already scraping into the hundreds of millions world wide. The only hope is for those who are immune to flee the cities and rebuild civilization in the wilderness…however that is a tall order as some new supernatural god like entity stalks the infected areas sealing gates, releasing prisoners, and scattering attempts to band together against the madness. The eyes of fate now fall on The sane citizens of Ogden who may well be the worlds last hope…
