Anime & Manga What's the anime you really wanted to like but just couldn't get into?

I think we all have that one anime we've heard wonders of and get to see all the online hype of, but when we watch it, it either leaves us with a meh sort of feeling or we simply downright not like it.

For me, one of the biggest that come to mind is Shokugeki no Souma/ Food wars!
I've heard amazing things of it, about how it is redefining the genre and how everyone seems to love it, but after forcing myself to watch halfway through season one, I simply could not get into it at all.

Durarara, hands down. My brother said that it's one of his favourites and we watched it together. It was okay, I really like some characters, but the main ones, Kida and Mikado were just soo meh. I watched it all, the action was cool, some characters were really funny and cool, but Mikado... Just ugh.

I've had a lot of these, actually. I think the biggest "meh" one for me was Vampire Knight? Like it seemed really cool but I just couldn't bring myself to love it as much as my friend who said it was her favorite?
I was also kinda jaded when it came to Soul Eater. I see all this hype about it and then I'm kinda sitting there like, "Okay... Yeah, it's cool, but..." I was only there for Death the Kid, to be perfectly honest. Don't know why it wasn't as exciting as I thought.

I watched this show a few years ago called Scrapped Princess. I was sure I'd love it because everything I read about it made it sound like it was right up my alley at the time. But for some reason, I just couldn't stay engaged enough to finish it. I didn't hate it, but there was a point about 2/3s of the way into the show where I was like "I'm getting close to the end so I should finish it but am I really enjoying myself here?". I stopped watching.

I can't even really recall why the show didn't click with me, it simply could have been something I was in the wrong mood for at that current time. I don't even really remember much of it at this point so I couldn't make a guess at why, either.

Recently I've had a great track record with watching shows that I know I'll enjoy and having a good time with them the whole way through, so that's really the most recent option that comes to mind aside from some "I'll watch the first episode or three and promptly get distracted and then not be in the mood to pick it back up for a while" type stuff.

Kiznaiver and Bokurano both have amazing soundtracks, but I just never go into the actual anime, no matter how much I wanted to get into it.

Hate me, if you will, however, I just could not find myself fully watching Black Butler. It's such a popular anime and is one of the animes that you first watch when you enter the world of anime, however, I found it so difficult to watch. I adore the art style, but the storyline pretty much bored me. I wish I could get into it though so I could experience the feelings of a Black Butler fan and understand why they love it so much.

There are a few anime that are like that with me, though most anime I just can't get into tend to have to do with them really being not something I appreciate in general or something which personally made me feel insulted so for the most I don't especially want to like them, for instance those anime which halfway through basically turn into porno fodder, or are porno fodder in disguise. There are exceptions, for instance season 2 of a certain magical index which really annoyed me with the stupid difamatory nun characters.
That said, there are plenty of anime that fall into this thread's topic for me.

The first that comes to mind, is Envagelion. Now, as I hear, Evangelion is precisely the pinacle of anime quality and nothing that came after is worthy to lick its boots, or at least, so do all the critics and fans seem to want to imply. And you know what? Maybe that's the case, but as of right now, I can't help but really f*cking hate it because people don't shut up about it. The problem is less that the show is bad, but more that I can't watch it because I know all I'll be thinking about it is any way to find flaws and plotholes, and nobody should watch anything thinking like that. I hate that so many good, quality fun shows are brought down by being compared to that one, whether it is the El Dorado of anime as many claim or it is a piece of pretentious shock value junk sprinkled with nostalgia goggles.

Then there are anime like Kemono friends and Ajin, which I heard were great, but the all that CGI 3D or whatever it is exactly, it gave me a really bad headache, and I mean that literally. Some anime feature a little bit milder versions of that, allowing me to get a bit more used to it over time and maybe one day I'll get to watch it, but at this moment I feel like I may get a stroke if I watch them to completion.

Quanzhi Gaoshu is an anime I couldn't get into because it's in chinese, and boy I just couldn't get used to it. And Kekkai Sensen way too confusing for me (though seeing how I've watched almost all of monogatari AND mekaku city actors without too much of a problem, that's really saying something).

Sakurada Reset is an anime I really loved the tone of, it was a more or less nuanced anime exploring deeply philosophical themes (and I'm a real sucker for philosophy), but the aesthetics of it all were so f-ing boring, and everything was so monotone in the end, and even with interesting mechanics, bullshit piled up and I just couldn't get further into it.

And lastly there are those big running shonen series....and pokemon. With these, the problem is that when I start watching something, I do so with the intention of finishing it relatively quickly. I tend to binge a lot and when I don't it's usually because I'm watching it as it comes out. To me, getting into a series with 100+ episodes is just...nope. Nope, not going there. You can tell me it's a classic and super amazing like hunter x hunter, but I can't divert that much of my time into ONE show, especially when there is so much anime I want to watch already.

So, these are a few, I think the main anime I just can't get into despite wanting to. There are, of course, more, but I'll leave that for my anime list's "dropped" section to show.

Black butler, gurren lagann
I watched soul eater and blue exorcist in full but meh they werent all that great
Free!, Magi, theres a lot lmao

I wanted to get into Psycho Pass, i like the characters, but it just wasn't the style of anime I liked.

Naruto, dragon ball z (even though i watched it all the time as a kid), sailor moon(thought the charas was cute but didn't care to watch the anime too much), and one piece

I couldn't really get into Blood Blockade Battlefront. I guess the pace was just a bit too fast for me, and I kept wanting to know more about some of the supporting characters. The main character is cute, though. ; P

Akame ga Kill, I swear I thought it had so much potential then it revealed itself to be nothing more than cheap, harem-filler waste of time... I tried three episodes and it just was not worth it! Same feelings after seeing a couple of episodes of Sword Art Online season 2. Again, I thought had a lot of potential and then it was flushed down the drain with harem filler and lack of character development on Kirito (stupid hoe)'s part. Forgive my language, but these two anime series are just horrendous to me. But School Days, is definitely the worst anime I've ever seen (next to the Hentai B.S. that was truly horrid for me); in my opinion! So, those are my top 3 least favorite/most hated anime series of all time. Sorry, but I'm not that sorry! But to each their own.

Boku no - Hero Academia... I like the premise of a hero school where the population has powers aka Quirks but... The whole Slew of cliched things broke my interest.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

Fight me.
is it because of the pillar men?(๑•́ ₃ •̀๑)

What did you just say about Durarara?
I'll box anyone that doesn't like Durarara because opinion doesn't matter and free will is a myth.

Perhaps.

I never said that I didn't like it. It just left me feeling quite meh considering how hyped up it is.

Okay! Let me call my Custodes!

Oh Pillar Men~(´∀`)♡

BTW I only fight with Greek Oil Wrestling (´ε` )♡

Don't get me wrong, the Pillar Men theme is cool. It's really cool. Yes it's indeed very cool. But I can't get into the series as a whole like with people saying oh the action the characters are really good like SAY WHAT??!!! I watched the anime up to part three and I feel like wasting my time when I can do something better than being a JOJO FAN!!!

Oh yeah and still fight me, but I only fight with sword and other blade type weapon similar to it. Free-style combat, fencing, whatever you want, but no Roman oil cause Roman oil sounds g..
