Other What are books you read to get inspired! <3

Witcher Series helps me. What about yourself?
Oh the Witcher series is really good!
I'm not certain. Nothing really has that bite to it! I have been listening to Stephen Fry Mythos which is entertaining

The Last Unicorn is one of my favorites! The prose is so poetic and beautiful. I also really enjoy the songs that Beagle wrote such as None but a Harper and The Way I Behaved. Schmendrick, Molly Grue, King Haggard all have some really memorable quotes too.

Kind of a gimmie but The Picture of Dorian Gray. I don't think I could put it into words better than the various English majors who love this book.
Moby Dick and Candide as well! Great pieces of literature that show you don't need to be 100% serious all the time to write something great. (And Catch 22 to a degree)
Flowers for Algernon has a unique use of perspective, and has been a great inspiration for getting into the mindset of my character.
The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice have some of my favorite use of purple prose even though I don't use it much except to emphasize dramatic scenes or if I'm playing a character who thinks like that.

I also really like the divine by mistake series. It's like a guilty pleasure. Although it's such a hokey pokey series it sort of gives you permission to feel transformed into a world where you are a goddess.

Interesting to know what others use for inspiration with these novels

I live for my annual Murderbot Diaries reread, and inevitably end up writing some snarky sci-fi afterwards.

I just picked up Network Effect and I'm sooo hyped to read it. really been enjoying the series so far.

I'm a huge sucker for Tamsyn Muir's writing style but I've also recently been introduced to Cassandra Khaw, who I'm liking a lot. other stuff I read for inspo ranges but I love any kind of queer fantasy or sci-fi or things that blend the two genres. I also find reading poetry to be really helpful for prose inspiration (I'm partial to Mary Oliver)

Network Effect is sooo good! I hope you like it!

I'm a little familiar with Tamsyn Muir. As far as queer sci-fi goes, I adore Malka Older's Mossa & Plieti series and Stina Leicht's Persephone station series.

I'll have to check those out for sure then!

I saw someone said they read The Last Unicorn and I have to say that I also read it for inspiration when writing a more “dark” magic setting!

Lately I’ve picked up the song of Achilles and it’s very good, I’ve picked up the way on how the characters talk admittedly, but overall my writing style is similar to this one author who wrote one of my favorite horror books. Unfortunately my book shelf isn’t as full as it used to be so I’m definitely gonna check out the books recommended here for more inspiration in my writing ^^

I read my favourite chapter books from when I was a kid! Mine specifically is this kinda obscure one about a kid and his brother in 1800s Utah pulling con man type stunts, but the writing is always fast paced and easy to read. It reminds me that my writing doesn't have to be ground breaking or anything to be good and enjoyable
