Jane smiled at Helena and looked to Yo. “I would love nothing more than to join you.” she smiled brightly before sinking into the water.

As she listened to Keil and Pozou answer Helena’s medical questions, Jane lifted her arms out of the water. Taking a closer look at them, she frowned as she remembered she was one of the few members to leave Stone’s Throw unharmed. Although she was sore for a day or two due to carrying Pozou through the tunnels. Thinking back to it, Tammond was a dick for not helping her carry the handless quetzola.

Jane leaned her head back, letting the entirety of her hair get wet. As she released a sigh of relief, she sunk deeper. Her head disappeared into the water for a moment before she resurfaced wearing a big smile.

At the mention of her name, she looked to Yo as she invited Helena to join them in massages. “Oh! Yes, please, you have to come!” she said, failing to hide her excitement.

Looking towards Keil and Pozou, her smile grew bigger as they decided to tag along too. “This is going to be so much fun! But, yes, I agree to not wanting to leave this water for like, ever.” Jane said as she leaned against the wall of the tub.

Luka smirked when Rose taunted his height; she was even meaner than usual. "May not be the tallest lad in town, but I make up for me height elsewhere." He took a drink from his beer; it was crisp and sweet with a clean finish. "Thanks again for the beer short stuff." He cheered his mug at the ornery pirate, but his focus changed when Amalia mentioned nuns. Her opinion on them was downright blasphemous. "They must have boring nuns in the Gates too then… boring drinks and boring gals. I think there's a sad play bout' that."

Luka chuckled and sipped from his mixed drink, almost coughing when bitter notes slammed his taste buds. Well this is right fuckin' rank, he thought, clearing his throat as the wishing well was discussed. "Lovely drink this is… tastes great." He forced down another sip; his poker face was strong but a small cough ruined his facade.

"Bloody hell that kicks— he sipped his beer to cleanse his burned pallet. Then he looked at Daisy with a small shrug. "The old fuckers' payin' me so it don't matter if it's real. Never had so much gold in me pocket." He paused a moment, thinking about the Wishing Well stories he'd heard. "But knife to me throat, it sounds like rubbish. World don't work that way." He looked at Rose and Amalia. "Hope I'm wrong for your sakes, but fountains and wells don't change things, gold and swords do."

As Gwendolyn met Leóne's eyes, her smile grew. As he wrapped his arms around her waist, she hooked her around his neck. “Why, thank you.” She said before kissing the rouge back.

Stepping away she looked at his outfit and laughed a little. “Well, we can go shopping before dinner. I could find you an outfit fit for a noble. You need new clothes anyways.

At Leóne's comment of her dressing like a southerner, she looked at her outfit. Scrunching her nose as he tapped her hat. “You’re right. It’s nice wearing a swimsuit and not freezing once you get out of the water. But I do miss my fur coats.” She responded. “Aren’t we going further south? How much hotter could it possibly get?” She groaned, wiping an imaginary bead of sweat from her forehead.

She looked around them, reading the different shops signs. She hummed for a moment before deciding what to do for the night.

How about we go shopping, hit the casinos, then we beat Hubyr in his drinking contest?” She planned, smirking at the image of herself and Leóne laughing over a blackout Hubyr. “You know he said he could outdrink me? I mean it’s a possibility but I can’t let him believe that. So I need you to show him who’s boss.” She said, crossing her arms in almost a pouting way.

Gwen's fondness for the north was clear as day, and equally clear was her fondness for fine clothes. "Clothes for a noble eh?" Leone looked from store to store. "I like the sound of that. I think there's a shopping district that way." He pointed east with a thoughtful glance; he wasn't used to the town yet, but he'd asked townspeople for directions a few times. They'd mentioned a strip of stores with every ware one could want, and without wasting a beat, Leone headed that way with Gwen.

As they walked he thought about her plans; from shopping to gambling and drinking contests with the ever competitive Hubyr. "I see you've been busy." His brow raised. "A drinking contest sounds fun. If that elf is so confident, we'll show him how Centosians drink." Leone slightly smiled as he imagined the competition. Gwen would be putting drinks back faster than they were served, and he was no slouch either. Hubyr was sorely mistaken if he thought they were pushovers.

After imagining their win for a few moments, Leone looked at Gwen with a hint of concern in his eyes. "The south can be scorching. I've seen men lose consciousness from the heat. It doesn't help that there's no shade… the only plants that grow are short, stubby things covered with spines." He thoughtfully paused, thinking about his time down south. He'd spent months there but the heat would still wear him down. "I know a few spells that can cool the air around us, but even with that it might be hard on you."

Advancement post.

There's been a 17 day timeskip. The date is now May 12th. The current time is 4am (desert travel is during the night) and the temperature is 52 degrees Fahrenheit.
The day passed and Blueport became a memory. Its resorts faded from sight as the group rode east for Bedouin Pass; a commonly used gateway to Almas. It was a relaxed trip with views of pristine beaches, passing ships and humble fishing villages, but it took almost two weeks to reach Eastwatch, wearing down the group once more.

After another four days the group could distantly see the desert. Its scope was unimaginable, spanning the horizon from east to west. Its rolling dunes looked like waves on a bumpy sea, and hot air shimmered above them. It was a harsh wasteland. That was clear even a hundred miles away, and as the group traveled south the landscape slowly changed. The trees shrunk from proud oaks to small desert pines, rivers narrowed into streams, lush fields became barren and rocky, and the sky was harsh and cloudless.

But on the fourth day the group saw a welcome sight — Bedouin Pass. It was an Oasis beside the dunes, filled with merchants, travelers and Almasian soldiers. It was far from a city though. There were only four permanent buildings; a wooden fort, a general store, a cantina and a border post. Surrounding them were hundreds of canvas tents, ranging from stores to homes for Almasian families. There were also a few tents with signs like Khadir's Guide Service, Pathfinders of the Sand and Dead Ocean Guides.

The last is where our group stopped. It was staffed by a young man with short black hair, brown skin and golden eyes. He sat behind a small wooden table, and his gaze lingered on the non-humans. "Need a guide yes?"

Lucien dismounted his horse, grunting as he stepped down. "We're that obvious?"

The merchant's expression didn't change. "Are you surprised?" He stood and walked around the table, appraising the motley group behind Lucien. "Where do your travels take you? We have many guides for the desert's many paths."

"We make haste for Acre Meyab. We have a few who know how to survive in the desert, but we don't know the way through it."

"I see, Acre is a common destination. Many travelers must wait days for guides to return, but your timing is fortuitous. Our best Acre guide returned yesterday." The merchant walked to the back and peeked into another room. "Nadia! We have customers." He looked at Lucien with a smirk. "She can be, as we say… majnun. Your word escapes me."

Just then a scowling woman burst from the other room.

f0304653e34bc7b8bd0de14c909000a4.jpg

"MAJNUN?" She pulled a knife from her belt and tossed it between her hands. "If you want crazy, I'll show you crazy you childish oaf!"

The man sarcastically shook his head. "Forgive my ignorance, the word I was looking for was crazy. She's a hothead but she's our best guide."

Nadia scowled as she crossed her arms. "I should've married a goat."

The man laughed for a second. "Let's spare them our quarrels. These fine northerners are headed for Acre Meyab."

Nadia swallowed her wounded pride and curiously examined the group. "You're not prepared for the desert. Horses don't fare well and you'll bake like chickens inside metal armor."

Lucien shook his head; the horses weren't expendable. "The horses stay, we'll need them later."

"It'll cost you," Nadia said.

"How does that work exactly?"

"Air and water stones to cool and hydrate them, without the stones they'll drop like flies during the day. Trading your horses for Camels is cheaper."

"Money isn't an issue, the horses stay."

She shrugged and sheathed her blade. "Hmm... your loss but it's your coin."

The two carried on about logistics for a time, and afterwards the group prepared to leave. There were others brought along too; several adventures who were going in the same direction. They were an interesting group from different corners of the world, and when they were ready, they went to the border gate with the group. The border guards were mildly suspicious of the non-humans, but they granted travel passes nonetheless, and when night came the caravan left Bedouin Pass.

Nadia rode a camel at the front. Her long black hair swayed in the gentle breeze, and the cool night air soothed the exhausted travelers. Through the darkness they rode for many hours, and when dawn approached they stopped in ancient ruins. The ruins were from a bygone era of ancient men with impressive technology, but all that remained were stone husks. They offered enough cover for shade though, allowing the horses to stay cool during the day.

It is here where my narration stops and yours begins, in the ruins of first age men from eons ago. There's also a small camp that desert tribesmen call home, and two families greet us as we settle in. Among them are two men, two women and five children who gawk at the dangerous group of adventures.

When spoken to, the locals mention a legend about a hidden tomb below the ruins. They also mention a sandstorm brewing in the east, and dangerous creatures that call the desert home.

Meanwhile, another group follows the tracks we left behind, hunting us down in the darkness.

Vaaltari of Jata

The trip from Blueport to The Pass had eaten away at Vaaltari's mood with time. All this time, giving him time to reflect and wonder if everything so far, had been leading to signs of something foreboding in the future.

Freya's death had been the first. The news had spread and had probably affected all, none more so than the husband whom Vaal's heart ached for. While the death was sad, Vaaltari did not dwell on it long. She was dead after all and like the saying back home went: the dead have no worries, the living always do- so move on.

All he could do was be thankful of her kindness, and hope that the spirits beyond would ensure her soul saw a better life upon her rebirth.

Then Yo was the second. Her departure had not been sad to Vaal. They had talked few, even brief, and even though they knew each other in the past he had merely been a soldier that worked with her family's empire at the time. Her departure was expected. For some reason the Princess was fleeing something, he did not know what but he had always thought she would linger longer. Whatever she fled from, he wished her the best. Yet still, a part of him after she was gone, found some sadness. Lorrin had shared in his craft, and Yo- much like his fellow Matugna had been, were reminders of home. The Princess in specific a brief reminder of a time where things had been more sane, where his world had been normal. Yet somehow normalcy escaped him to this day. Just as she left them, him, and with them that shred of normalcy also.

The biggest proof of this was that demon. The largest possible signal any of the spirits could have sent him, and the biggest reminder of home he could have asked for. To have fought one so powerful and survived should have been a thing to bask in, but Vaal could feel no such thing. He rather felt the opposite. The sourness only grew stronger as time went on. Through reflection he had to ask himself:

When did the noble born of the richest blood, hardened protector, settle to simply just cruise on by? He didn't know. In the fight with the demon he felt he could have done more. Perhaps these lands had made him soft. Being trapped in these regions for now two years, it must be that. He had never worn his armor everyday, 24/7 as he did here in these lands. Nowadays he had come to understand the story of Prince Sawaani. In youth he had laughed at a prince who wanted to wage war with the West's dragon Queen over the refusal of a proposal in marriage over looks. But to have witnessed the looks himself here, it gave insight. Even if his peers were not the ones doing it. The memory of his earlier times in these lands were fresh, and the reminders were being heaped on as they neared Almas, leaving Blue Port with the few that gave their group a longer look than was socially polite to.

As they moved through the Pass, Vaal could not help but be reminded of home more, something he hated. Specifically reminded in how different the continents were. It bothered him. Bothered him deeply. More than he would admit. In the desert of Maurian, every step had to be taken in caution. Here you just walked and had to protect yourself against bandits at best and dehydration. Carnivorous plant life which fed on the lifeblood of the living, animals worked together to bring down travelers-- they did not exist here. It put Vaal on edge the entire four days through the desert because he had constantly been expecting something worse to happen, only to find out nothing ever would- even if someone told him that- he ignored it.

Days of trudging through sand and heat, of sweat build up and grime, and Vaal found himself increasingly annoyed with this desert and its gawking people. Once they passed by a small group and he caught the word 'inhumans' being whispered between some teens that had been glancing back at them, laughing at something. He'd stopped to watch them go. Thoughts of grabbing both and giving them a good scare by showing off his fangs and many teeth, a tempting idea.

Quickly, he'd thought better of it. Both because it would ruin his image with the party, and probably cause more trouble than was worth his venting. So like a true noble of his tribe, he swallowed his emotions, and moved on. Unleashing it in small bursts at any other travelers that shared the same distrustful look instead by grinning at them in that unnatural way of his.

At last they reached civilization and when they had, Vaaltari was far from impressed. Four eyes scanned the surrounding area, and only after he had his fill did one of those pair of eyes disappear, returning him to a somewhat more human looking appearance despite the blue of his skin. While the newcomers they had acquired did have his attention to some degree, he ultimately lost interest when he saw the attention their group received. It made him scowl. To be looked at with such disrespect, for one of his blood especially, made him feel such righteous anger...so for his own sense of safety Vaal kept the arm under his cloaks clutching one handle of his blades. And allowed his hidden tail tip to prepare its bladed edge for a strike if any fight broke out.

Unconsciously he moved to adjust his mask until he realized he wasn't wearing the helmet, and sighed. Leaving these damned regions would be a blessing. Everything about this place set him on edge.

Once their guide had been settled they were off again, and as they were Vaal spoke to Ayana, telling her he wished to request her help in learning combat magic. Something to increase his skills. Once she had given him her answer, he informed her he was going to speak to the newcomers. And so he moved towards the easiest target. The large half-naked female that had joined them.

"Greetings," he said amicably, "I am Vaaltari, I must say I have grown used to seeing humans of your caliber, though far and few, but none have I met dressed as you. Might I ask thy name?"

Nemeia Herakula

How did it came to this? To be a part of a group that she is unknown of and cringe at the sight of men of which the party is most composed of. Sickening as she feels, but she cannot deny the fact they're heading at the same direction. She came far from home, swimming alone for a few days until landing on the beach where she continues to move on, surpassing trials that would have killed her. But alas an Amazon like her cannot for they have been trained for any situation that may endanger them.

She hunted for food and water at the time she was alone. She fended off bandits and beasts, and made them as food as well, INCLUDING the former. To her, if it is edible, it is still sustenance regardless of morals, for survival is what runs in her mind. Coming upon the Pass she had a scuffle with the group, only to agree to come with them since they're heading at the same direction. "Ruins" the guide said, how convenient of them, and so they went forth. Along the way, she is approached by a weird looking man in a mask, greeting her as warm as he could. Bad idea.

Nemeia gives him a very deathly and cold glare that pierces his soul with fear and terror, engulfing his heart with cowardice, and shrouding his body with shivers. Nemeia opens her to speak in the most unruly manner. "I do not speak to a man so dirt as you. I can already tell that the moment you've looked at me, your lust has taken over your consciousness. You do not deserve to know who I am, so begone from my sight or I will make you feel the cold steel of my blade sinking deep into your chest and into your soul. I will keep you alive however so long as you keep screaming in agony, that to me are music to my ears." She said, hopefully to make Vaaltari leave her be.

Vaaltari of Jata

It would have been easy to cut her off with "primitive giant philistine", but his upbringing made him consider the consequences heavily. If she was acting this way from simple greeting, how would she act from a returned insult?

So Vaal kept his mouth shut, and watched the tantrum unfold. Being the target of someone else's ire was something else. Although to do it in the way she had done it, to insult him in such a way- it really made him consider if she was mad at what he was or if there was something more. The people of Almas terrain were expected to be different than Centosian folk; he had met all kinds of people, few of them had been the unsavory- but here in Almas, from what he was seeing alone, well it appeared they had more troglodytes than he had thought. Or was it something more than that when it came to this one? When he looked into those eyes however, he saw all he needed to see. The answer was intimidation. She had not made a physical sign she would do what she was saying, not yet, but he could read from the body language, her features, that scaring him off was the aim. Maybe she was serious, maybe she wasn't. He couldn't be sure. Perhaps it was not him she hated, from the way she spoke alone at his approach it sounded more like she disliked he was a 'he' at all.

Hard to tell. In the end, it did not matter. An insult was an insult and while in the past he would have walked away humbly, he would not do that today. His mood had already been bad, she had just made it worse.

"You flatter yourself too much" he chuckled. All traces of surprise, now gone and a mask of calm in its place. One of the stripes that traced his face lifted up, mimicking a brow as he said, "Yes you are beautiful, by human standards, it would be ill to represent my kind as salacious though. I'll tell you only once, don't do what you are doing now with me, to the others. You were alone when you joined us, you don't want to be alone when backed into a corner. I don't care where you come from or what you were before, you will remember that and make nice with the others, or maybe fate will make you learn that lesson yourself." He changed subjects, done with his lecture. "Besides, I would not consider you worthy of courting, let alone most here. I like the people here don't get me wrong." His tone gentler here. "But my time on these lands have shown me the humans here are nothing like the humans back home." His tone hardened. "On my lands, these deserts would have cut down our numbers to more than half it was when we started, here it is not like that. And the species here do not look like they would last two days. Not even ones as large as you. From how you acted, you'd be more likely to die alone in a few hours than survive even the night. You may have height but you are lacking in what it truly means to survive in the wild; time will tell if I find myself suitable mates in these lands or not. For now, a moment of passion, if any, will suffice" he said as he turned his attention back towards his peers before moving it back to her.

"Besides, you seem to think you could do harm." His words sprinkled with amusement, his smile merry, despite what he felt truly there was no sign of anger. "I may be dirty, but surely that applies to us all, adventure is not like traveling out to the market where one returns home to bathe away the time of day. If you will not tell me your name," he shrugged. "So be it. I will give you one, a nickname."

And so Vaaltari began to circle her. He went around her once, then stopped to eye her, top to bottom. Amusement on his face, but boredom in his eyes. He kept his distance however. A good few feet apart, enough where if she wanted to reach him she would have to run up a short burst, like prepping for a charge. "Hmm, you lack much in clothing yet have this presence about you. If I knew more of Almas' culture perhaps I could give you something more fitting." He hummed in thought. "Natwa" he pondered aloud, than shook his head. "Dellatrix?" He hummed again, nodding slowly. "Yes, Dellatrix will do for now. So Dellatrix, what brings you away from your home?"

Unlike most of the crew, Liam was almost entirely absent from gatherings and events with the others, he had something far more important to do. He had decided to tackle his monsters both figuratively and literally. He spent his days talking to strangers by day to get over his stutter, to gain some self confidence, go shopping for several items they would need as they went into the desert, and to learn more about the world around him, and by the last day in blueport he had overcome his stutter, gotten some questionable advice regarding Jane that she showed no signs of being interested in him, and all but fully controlled the monster within. He spent the days of travel shifting between his feral side and normal side to try and find a balance between the two. While not fully there yet, he was well on his way to completing his goal on that regard.

He now carried a pack on his back, with rope, a shovel, several bamboo tubes he bought from a foreign trader which he was probably ripped off on, a tarp, bowels, a sifter, and much else he wished for long ago when he lived alone in the desert. His dagger was strapped to his side, it was the only thing he had from home of any value since he was kicked out. Even though his father viewed him with disgust, it was his birthright, and by custom his father had to give it to him before he set out. Liam contemplated selling it many times for food, but no one in the desert would deal with him. They tried robbing him of it, but he ran away. He stared at it as they pulled up at the guide's tent, much like he would stare at it while alone in the desert. It had been a useful tool that helped him survive, but nothing more than a tool to Liam. Many people considered their birthrights sacred and something to behold... but he an outcast wasn't apart of such a culture. Still, he kept it for some reason, whether it be sentimental, usefulness, or supernatural, he knew not, regardless it was on his side.

He knew how to survive the desert, but he knew little directions to it's locations, he wandered aimlessly trying to find food to survive. Liam slithered up to Lucian as the negotiations were going. "Sir Lucian, guides are not going to share how to survive in the desert unless paid extra. However there's no need for that as I'm an expert in that regard." Liam stated to remind Lucian of the information he was told during their interview long ago at the start of their journey. "Though she neglects to say that night travel is easier due to the cool air, though some may need warming it is much easier to warm than cool in the desert. During the day one can find shelter to keep cool and rest." Liam declares, while he knew much of travel itself, he knew little of navigation, hopefully she knew how to travel by stars. However negotiations continued on for a long time, so after stating his piece he decided to leave them to their haggling.

He spotted Vaal in the distance talking with someone Liam hadn't seen before, clearly one of the newcomers. From the back it seemed to be the fur of some king of large beast, but he couldn't tell what it was clearly... but it looked like a lion. "Hey Vaal, and nice to meet you newcomer. I'm Liam, what's your name?" Liam stated with a smile as he came around to face the two. "Wha?!?!" Liam instinctively exclaimed as he summoned a large pile of blankets to cover the lady. If she was taken by surprise the heavy weight thick dense cloth may knock her to the ground, if not she would be buried up to her head. "W-WHY IS SHE NAKED???" He inquired, his stutter returning out of shock at the situation as his face turned red, not out of embarrassment or being turned on, but out of sheer surprise.

Nemeia Herakula

Nemeia felt threatened when she is being lectured by Vaaltari. He has no idea what kind of person Nemeia is. Her fists are clenched, but it's not visible since she is wearing her gauntlets, though a vein is visible on her forehead which indicates that she is mad. So mad. It got worst when Vaaltari gave her the name of Dellatrix, which does not suit her so well that it prompts her to speak out loud "How dare you! Giving me a lecture, questioning my modesty, and calling me by a commoner name! My name is Nemeia Herakula, Queen of Amath, the land of the Amazons! My reason for wearing little is because it shows off my beauty befit a queen such as myself! It is the ideal symbol of an Amazon's strength, courage, and intelligence! I will not stand idly for this! Vaaltari, your death is ni-"

But all of a sudden, a pile of blankets, summoned forth by a snake man, drops down onto Nemeia. It's weight could only make her bow slightly, but that added more fuel into the fire. She shreds the blankets with her claws, ripping and tearing them away until she is free from it's heaviness. Torn pieces of cloth now scatters in the sand. Nemeia, furious as ever, turns to the one known as Liam. "Snake man, are you trying to kill me by crushing me under the weight of cloth? If it is death you are asking, you will not get it from me, but what you will get is nothing but agony!" The claws of her gauntlets extends to that of regular swords as she points them at him. "Do you have any words before I come about and sink these blades into you?" She asked. Someone should stop her before she does the deed.

He was about to say "Dellatrix is not the name of a commoner, it is the name of a spirit in a legend of my people", albeit a rather troublesome spirit, but a spirit nonetheless. However before he could explain this at all, just as he himself was eyeing her as she made her death threats- kind Liam stepped in. And proceeded to toss blankets over Nemeia after seeing her essential nude. Liam's inquiry shortly after and the brief moment of struggling that Nemeia faced as she maneuvered to get out of her bindings, made Vaaltari burst out in laughter. He laughed so hard that tears began to emerge from his eyes and while he was doing this he realized something.

It'd been a while since he laughed like this. The few moments he could recall laughing like this were far and not at all close in between moments in time. No sooner had he realized this, did his laughter also slowly begin to die down. Though his newly brightened mood stayed, seeing Liam's distraught state at Nemeia's unique choice of appearance. The threats she sent his way merely made Vaaltari snicker and chuckle, raising a hand to cover his mouth. Already he was at Liam's side even before she emerged from the trappings. It was honestly the funniest sight he had seen in awhile. And the grin he had on his face at her threats at Liam couldn't even be wiped away when she pointed those...claws.

Liam himself was taken aback by her and her reaction, and was unsure how to react to Vaal’s stifled laughter. How was a lady, standing completely exposed in such an indecent way something funny? Perhaps it was his attempt at… what was the term, chivalry perhaps, humorous? It was such a strange thing he failed to understand. “Kill you? Why would I kill you?! You’re standing there naked!!! That’s just… WRONG!!!” He declared, his thoughts finding regardless she seemed completely crazy and delusional to think such attire was acceptable!

However his thoughts stopped upon seeing her claws extend and threaten him. He hoped the entire thing was a joke drummed up by the others to fluster him, but as he looked at her preparing to pounce, his instincts sensed danger and it became extremely clear to him it was no joke. His eyes narrowed and his glare contained the aura of a monster, his muscles began to bulge as he uncoiled and lunged towards her with a menacing hiss before she could harm him or Vaal. In that moment Vaal said: “oh” but it was too late to move. Liam’s wits however were still about as he proceeded to materialize a blanket between them as he wrapped around her to not be uncouth. “I have many words of inquiry, especially regarding your mental health and jumping to insane conclusions!!!” He stated in a huff as he pinned her arms to her side so she couldn’t hurt anyone, however his eyes were still those of a beast watching its prey carefully, for predators could become prey within mere seconds if they weren’t careful. He had his dagger drawn and readed behind his back to do that which he did not desire to if he had to save his friends.

Before any hasty actions could be taken, Vaal slipped his hand to the handle of his leftmost blade. “Alright, let’s all take a deep breath and calm down so we talk this out like civilized people?” Any mirth gone, and hesitancy quite plain as Vaal’s eyes shifted between Liam and Nemeia. “Nemeia” He nodded to Liam in a subtle sign that he had his back. “If you start a fight here, it will attract our friends. I don’t know what makes you think you could kill us so easily, but even if you did, our friends will hunt you down and avenge us. To make the point clear that a fight wouldn’t be easy, Vaal whipped his tail out with a crack and in the same moment muscles bulged, pulsing with magic underneath the skin and with a few pops of bone, he had put on a bit more height and size. No longer looking up, but now looking slightly down. “My friend here is restraining you because of your actions, if you are a real queen, and aren’t one of the pathetic barkers of nobility I’ve dealt with- prove it. Be calm, and we can rectify any misunderstandings.

It wasn't uncommon to find those who were traversing the same paths as she was, although her own seemed more aimless and thoughtless than most who traveled. The young mage had come across the group of travelers at the Bedoin Pass and knew it was much safer to travel with others rather than alone. Her paced had slowed so that she could keep closer, but coming up to any to speak with them was the harder part. Apart from the usual greetings and explanation of her own journey she wasn't particularly good with people and speaking. An unfortunate circumstance but one that she could typically get used to. Her golden eyes flitted towards the guide they had to take them to the small camp and she was more than happy to be able to explore their current area a bit more now that they were here.

Slicking her fingers through her hair to push it back, her eyes flitted towards the odd group she was now traveling and part of her wondering if she should mingle with them as well. Didn't auntie say it was impolite not to? She puffed at the thought of the former temple keeper and wondered how she might have been doing these days, especially without an amnesiac tottering after her like a lost puppy. But the thoughts were completely lost to her as she heard a bit of a commotion. By a bit, well... Her golden eyes flitted and settled on a few people that seemed to be... arguing? The elf's eyebrows furrowed and she pursed her lips together as all her previous conflictions were left behind and instead now she worried about the sort of people she was now surrounding herself with.

Standing there and watching the nearly unclothed woman threatening the two non-humans who... well, one was certainly trying to cover her up and the other was seemingly trying to settle down the current complications. She found herself uncertain of whether she should butt in or allow the situation to take place at hand. It wasn't exactly her business to handle but... The mage stepped forward, although kept a pretty good distance from the few standing there." It may not be my business, but she was minding her own when you two came forward." She spoke up, and even after doing so she felt uncertain whether it was the right choice. Fingers idly brushing the sleeves of her blouse nervously when she spoke." Perhaps it would have been best to mind your own business, when approaching another. Especially when it comes to another way of life. But I could say, too, it would be better to greet ones without hostility when we must travel briefly with one another." Her words came out in a brief stammer, and her eyes could not meet any of the others' own as she let the words fumble from her lips. Although uncertain if she truly spoke what she wanted to say, her eyes finally looked back up to the three." Perhaps each of you should... reset and start over? It would be best if we could each at least tolerate one another."

Nemeia Herakula

Nemeia was going for it, but then a blanket appeared to stop her and Liam wraps his snake tail around her before pinning her to the sand. "Get off of me you lecherous reptile, or I'll bite off your head!" She struggles to break free, but while at it Vaaltari approaches her with a warning that if she continues to act hostile, their friends will come and kill her. He then asked to prove if she is really queen if she calms down, but of course she won't have any of that. "You will get naught of me if you continue to lay me down like this!" She said just as a young woman appears to appeal Liam and Vaaltari to take it easy on Nemeia.

"Finally, someone that I can at least be comfortable to hang out with, another woman." Nemeia thought, relieved to see a woman of which she can properly talk to, now waiting to see if Liam and Vaaltari could accept the mage's appeal.

Liam was appalled by the sheer audacity of Nemeia, he approached trying to be friendly and say hello and make a new friend, yet she was the one waltzing around naked, yet she declared they were at fault. She even dares to threaten him. For the first time in a very long time, the normally kind and docile Liam, was mad, nay furious at someone. His patience for such ridiculous antics snapped, and he let known his thoughts on the matter with great passion and voice as he let loose that which he kept hidden within. Someone else approached but Liam was not in the mind to pay attention to them.

"YOU are naked, YOU say that YOU are 'showing off your beauty' and YOU proceed to call US lechers for looking at you?! PREPOSTEROUS! LUDICROUS!!!" Liam declares with great indignation. "Not only that, but for our troubles you threaten to kill us not once, but TWICE!!! Try and bite me then you undignified, unceremonious, unscrupulous, UNREASONABLE, UNREALISTIC, UNCOUTH, and UNPLEASANT WOMAN!!!" Liam roared vehemently, loud enough for all present to hear as he gave her a dangerous glare and began to squeeze her arms tighter against her body, he was having NONE of her bullshit.

His anger soothed after berating her, but she still posed a danger to himself, Vaal, and apparently any males in the group. He flashed his dagger to Nemeia which he had kept hidden as he coiled around her once more and moved his head behind hers. "If you EVER threaten me, or my friends again, I will gladly commit regicide to save them, oh 'mighty' queen of the amazon." He whispered in a venomously cold and chilling voice that only she could hear before letting her go and quickly moving next to Vaal, he was ready to defend himself and Vaal against the crazy naked lady, but he hoped he made his point known to her and that she would back down.

after that little encounter at the resort and meeting some new friends well acquaintances at best though Xiko was sure he’d make friends with them in no time since luckily for the dragonfolk it seemed he was going in the same direction as a huge group of people that had contained those he‘d talked to at the resort and many more people to chat with. and now they had currently found themselves in a desert Xiko was glad to have such large wings to provide some shade for himself as he was currently watching a scene unfold in front of him. an odd titan of a female had been rather irksome with her lack of clothing for some reason Xiko had just done his best to entirely ignore the indecency. however, the serpent-like male found it enough of an issue to summon a bunch of blankets from seemingly nowhere and the whole thing escalated rather quickly to death threats and rage on both parties side Xiko found it rather amusing in as he sat back and watched the fireworks so to speak hopefully no one shoot anyone else

Kiel Shan && Amalia Winters && Celestine Oceania

How ironic was it that Kiel bought new clothes, assuming they would stay in the north, only for them to return to his home in the sands? Sadly, his old outfit had been ruined in a cell in Stones Throw, but he had been able to buy another which was similar to it. The silks against his skin in the desert heat made him feel like a child at home once more.

Liam was already advising Lucien on traveling and survival in the sands, and as long as there were stars in the sky, Kiel could navigate them wherever they needed, but the cohead of the expedition decided to still hiring a guide. She was quite a feisty one too, taking offense to the word "majnun," though fitting it as well. They wouldn't be traveling with only their group though, which seemed to be a source of trouble later.

The light-blue-haired man raised an eyebrow as he overheard commotion from nearby. Two of his companions were talking to a woman who was dressed in, well, nothing. The serpentine man seemed to take issue with this and covered her with a pile of blankets which only enraged the already agitated woman. Kiel made his way over to the other woman involved in all of this.

"Er... what exactly is happening here?"

Meanwhile, Amalia, although conceding to Nadia that armor was too hot for this climate, still wished to keep herself covered up and unseen. Thankfully, she had bought something at Blueport that was much lighter. She too had caught wind of the fight that was brewing, but unlike Kiel, was able to pick up the reasoning behind it too. By the time she arrived though, it seemed things had, for the most part, fizzled out. Still, as Vaaltari had mentioned, fighting would attract their friends, and here she was ready to intervene if necessary.

Celestine loathed that they had to give up the coasts and ocean, where she was so close to her home, for dry and hot sand. Simply staying alive in this climate was exhausting. Thankfully, at least at night, when they decided to travel, things were cooler. Still, even after taking off her armor and wearing the tropical attire she had picked up from Blueport, the climate was not agreeing with her. During their current stop, she did her best to stand underneath the shade of the ruins, but when that wasn't a possibility, she made her way to stand under the large wings of one of their newer draconic companions. When noticed, she would give him a sheepish yet pleading look, before her attention was pulled away to the sound of a commotion.

She could make out even less than Kiel and Amalia of the reason behind it, yet the mention of a queen caught her attention. It seemed things had mostly calmed down for the time being, but perhaps some diplomatic intervention could be done if things were to pick up again. On top of that, it would be nice to get to know the royalty of a landsmen's kingdom.

The young mage was certainly uncertain how to handle the current situation at hand. While she had tried to calm things, well... She wasn't completely certain that that was what she accomplished as she nervously glanced to the woman as she directly spoke to her and she offered up a small smile in return." I only wish to see us be able to get along together and not have troubles throughout our journey with one another." She insisted quietly, part of her wondering if this would be a normal thing through the desert. Although she was taken back by the complete blow out from the snake man and she gave a much deeper... frown.

The Elven woman still stood just a little bit away from the commotion, trying to think of how things might have been made better but... Her thoughts were interrupted and her golden eyes flitted instead to a man that had approached as well. Part of her glad to have another party to help perhaps cease the tension." Ah, I'm not completely certain myself, I think the man there doesn't like the way that she is dressed, or lack there of." She admitted, gesturing towards Liam who now was beside Vaal and she looked back to them, clearing her throat a little bit.

"Perhaps you should watch your tongue, you're the one making a big deal out of the way she is dressed." She finally spoke up once more, giving a gentle nod to Nemeia as she said this before looking back to Liam." You're being awfully rude just because you can not keep your mind clear of such vulgar thoughts. In fact I don't see why her appearance has anything to do with you." She lifted up her head, and admittedly she didn't like the way things were starting, but she decided she had already involved herself enough to back out from the matter now.

"You should mind yourself and your mouth, you came over uninvited and assaulted this young woman with your blankets without consent nor without reason other than to appease yourself. No one else here has bothered her about her clothing, maybe that should tell you a thing or two about how to act around other people. With your behavior I would say she has every reason to be upset, but you? No. I'd say you're the one we should be keeping an eye on." She sucked in a breath soon after, and most times she would have attempted to keep herself from speaking her mind, her auntie often said some things were better left unsaid but...

Ameire looked back to Kiel and she cocked her head to the side." If he is your companion, perhaps you should be teaching him a thing or two about respecting others. Even I know better than to make a fool of myself like that."

Pozou Artith | Valentine

(credit to @letoyga! for this commission!)

Pozou complete.png
Pozou was rather sad to leave Blueport. He had become too accustomed to the spa and the warm weather and the incredibly friendly locals. The Quetzola could have been cited to have given a forlorn and longing look at the resort on their way to Bedouin Pass before he simply had to suck it up and continue on his way. After all, they were on this journey for a reason, and as much as he wanted to stay, Pozou had his own reasons for finding the Well like the rest of them.

Valentine felt a similar longing to stay in Blueport, but they had drank in all the culture and history they could think of. The excitement at leaving to search for the legendary Well of Wishes was enough to wash away the blues of departure. It simply meant more material for him to record when it came to a story of their travels. They had already recorded quite the number of stories and other entries from travellers of the group already of their journey so far, so there was no way they would struggle with missing pieces of this journey.

Pozou, surprisingly, mostly coped well with the heat. His family had migrated to hotter climates at some points of the year - in fact, he was told he was born in a hotter climate before they returned home to the islands. He enjoyed the migrations, and his experiences allowed him to combat the hotter weather. Though he did feel sweat beading constantly above his eyebrows, a quick wipe and flick did the trick. Kiel didn't seem to have much problem with the weather, given his time in the desert.

Valentine, however, fared worse. Desert regions were not something that their troupe had so easily traversed before. They preferred to keep north, where the weather was mild. Even if a deadly chill fell upon them, they would have all the right resources to at least combat it. Valentine preferred freezing conditions. Gathering winter clothing, blankets, coats, anything to combat the chill, was much preferable to what you had to do when it was warm.

And even during the hottest parts of the day, Valentine wasn’t eager to follow some of the others in taking off a few items of clothing. Perhaps it was the amount of people they travelled with, but Valentine had felt more subconscious about themselves as they journeyed onward. They had just tried to reassure themselves the journey would be over soon. A little heat wasn’t going to be so bothersome, was it?

It ended up being bothersome in the end when they became incredibly dehydrated along the way. Pozou had tried to approach Valentine several times, only to be swatted away and told his help wasn’t needed. He saw the young thespian’s shoulders hunched every time Pozou had attempted to come near them Pozou stopped coming near them, though, had settled on simply instructing Valentine on how they should be treated from a distance. The Quetzola had seen this hesitation in others before.

valentine 3.jpg
Fears of doctors were common in this day and age, he had unfortunately learned.

Thankfully, it wasn’t long before they arrived at Bedouin Pass and they could at least rest for a moment. Pozou had approached Valentine - again, at a reasonable distance - now that they could finally walk on the ground again.

“How are you feeling?” Pozou asked, a sympathetic smile aimed at the young thespian.

“Yeah, better, thanks,” Valentine murmured, rubbing their arm. They felt a tinge of embarrassment colour their cheeks. A shot of independence, and already they had to be babied because they couldn’t use some common sense. “I’ll try and hydrate better…”

Pozou nodded and smiled. He would have suggested more fitting clothes but he decided against saying that. Valentine seemed uncomfortable enough as it was. “It’s tough travelling out here. Everyone else made it look easy,” he chuckled. Though, the smile faded upon hearing what sounded like a confrontation in the background. “Huh? What on Centos…?”

Valentine’s attention had also been brought to the confrontation too. It seemed a small group was gathering, and at first, they weren’t so sure what the whole fight was about. As they tried to pick out who was in the current group fighting, their eyes landed on a tall, sturdily built woman...and immediately had to look away.

Was she...really not wearing any clothes?

They tried to swallow back the lump in their throat. Suddenly, they felt so much...smaller. Insignificant almost. The urge to retreat into themselves became very real, yet, their skin felt too unbearably hot to stand in. They could feel themselves physically turning away from the sight of the confrontation, awkwardly folding their arms over themselves. Any confidence they had at Blueport seemed to slip away, as easily as the sand carried itself on the wind out in Bedouin Pass.

Gwendolyn sat at the stern of the ship, watching as Blueport faded into the horizon. Taking a deep breath, she turned around and looked at the group of unique individuals. She found herself looking for people who were no longer in their group and frowned. As she leaned back onto the railing, she met Leóne's eyes. She was never one who could hide her emotions so the rouge can read her like a book. Giving him a soft smile, she looked forward to the vast sea. "This is going to be a long trip, I fear." She whispered.

Ten days later, she found herself laying on the cabin's floor with a damp towel over her face. "Gods, please let this end." She groaned.

Seven more days passed before Gwen heard Jane yell "Land Ho!" Jumping from her hammock, she exited the cabin and watched as Bedouin Pass grew closer. Hanging over the side of the railing, she smiled before grimacing. It was hot. Unbearably hot. She thought for a moment about how to keep herself cool. She couldn't waste her energy on creating ice or keeping a cloud above her head. She certainly couldn't strip down to her undergarments, even though she would have all the attention Leóne was capable of giving her. Letting out a huff, she shook her head. She would just have to deal with it for a while.

Their large group followed Lucien to a tent where they hired a guide to take them to Acre Mayab. Gwendolyn found Nadia to be an odd woman. Not in a bad way but in a powerful way. She could tell this woman was intelligent, strong, and beautiful. She trusted her to guide them through the barren lands.

As the group waited for their journey across the desert to begin at nightfall, a few lonesome travelers joined them. The group was unsure about traveling with them but understood that they were heading in the same direction and there would be no reason to fight. That was true until they arrived at a city of ruins as it became dawn.

Gwendolyn watched in amusement and fear as Vaaltari and Nemia interacted, both brimming in the urge to show who was boss. Nemia was unlike any woman Gwendolyn had seen before. What intrigued her most were her muscles. Taking a glance at her own arms, she frowned. "I want to be that strong." She whispered, still staring at the woman.

Soon, Liam approached the two, and to her, and Nemia's surprise, the snake covered the amazonian in blankets as soon as his innocent eyes met her rather large chest. Stifling a laugh, she turned away. Looking around the group, she gave them a smile. "Who would like to explore the ruins with me? We have all day and can rest before we travel again." She asked, flicking her eyes towards the entrance of the ruins with a big smile.

the situation still seemed to be rather tense between the three people however Xiko attention was drawn away from that was a woman whom had taken the time to seek shade underneath the dragonfolk huge wings, though again he'd not seen anyone like them before prompting a grin back to them. "looking for a bit of shade? eh? i don't mind sharing make plenty myself" he'd comment cheerfully to them. "I don't belive iv introduced myself miss I'm xiko yikino." He'd add pausing to stare at the incident in front of them xiko's wings moving to serve as more effective shade now. "I Do wounder if this despite of there will escalate seems cultural differences started this" he'd comment obviously being the chatty sort.

Nemeia Herakula

Nemeia really wanted to bite his head off, but alas he has decided to free her from his reptilian grasps, but not before threatening her with a dagger. "Hmph!" Nemeia is not so fazed by the threat, rather ignores it completely. She turns to the mage, Ameire, and walks up to her. Once she gets to her, she goes down in one knee and bows. "You have my gratitude, young elven. Perhaps I may offer you my strength seeing as how frail you are." She said before getting back up.

Just then, another woman called up the group, offering them a job to explore the nearby ruins along with her. "For as long as there is something for me to slaughter, then count me in." Nemeia said, taking up the offer since it had piqued her interest.

Celestine Oceania

Despite how far she had come with landsmen, Celestine still found herself somewhat apprehensive when approaching the stranger. If it was not for the overheating she was currently going through, she would have much preferred to stick to herself and the few others she had become friendly with over the time of the trip. The Syphid was able to relax though, when Xiko greeted her with a welcoming demeanor.

"Oh, thank you," she said with a tired sigh. "We're not used to such heat where I'm from." That along with the extra pull from gravity on land made every movement extra tiring. "My name is Celestine Oceania," she responded, "it's nice to meet you." A sense of familiarity came to her when she remembered catching sight of the man on the beach at Blueport.

When the dragonfolk turned his attention back to the spectacle unfolding in front of them, her eyes followed. She nodded pensively at his words. "Yes... it's important to find a middle ground when it comes to cultural differences and challenge our own biases. I've had to do that during my time with this expedition and I'm glad I did. I wouldn't have been able to befriend some very wonderful people if I hadn't. I hope she is able to as well."

A smile came onto her face when she saw Gwen and heard her call to action for the others. As much as she didn't want to exert herself too much, she hoped that the ruins they explored would be cool and well-shaded. On top of that, if there was a cave in, based on previous experience, she knew the two of them could work together to find a way out. She didn't want to leave her new conversation companion high and dry though. "Are you in the mood for some exploring? Perhaps we can try to smooth things over with the Amazonian royal during our trip."

Daisy.png

Sand. Daisy hadn't seen sand like this in a long time. Not since she'd attended her father as a girl, when he went to conduct the rights of a Traveler from Whaleshell port that had died far afield. She knew the funerary customs for the people here, but she had never performed them before. It wasn't a place her family often found themselves.

The sand itself was of interest to Daisy, as well. It made her powers... different. Digging and moving sand was in some ways easier than the usual earth she had to deal with. It was light, easy to shift and pull, and the fact that moving sand caused so much of a disturbance in the earth made it easier for her to sense people and things moving on and through it.

But in other ways it was also more difficult. It seemed to be more akin to water in some ways, the holes she created for practice filling on their own, loose grains of sand eluding her geomantic grasp. More than that, she couldn't construct solid objects with her powers out of sand. She didn't have the strength to fuse the individual particles together, and so had to settle for shifting the sand about.

The sun and the heat, on the other hand, was much less of an interest to her. She didn't like the sun, much. Perhaps it was playing too much to type, but Daisy preferred low light, she enjoyed the cool and damp. Fortunately, while she couldn't do much about the dry weather, dealing with the heat and sun was a little simpler. Sand was light, easy to move, the individual particles not difficult to lift into the air. While Daisy wasn't a hugely powerful geomancer, precision was her strong suit, and she created a thin layer of sand in a shell, floating above her. She had to left her left hand and keep it pointed in the air to do it, but it was better than roasting alive. It wasn't anymore taxing than lifting an umbrella to protect yourself from the sun. She considered offering some of her companions similar protection, but their new guide Nadia seemed more than resistant to suns unpleasant gaze, and she'd felt too... awkward... simply walking up to someone and offering to protect them from the sun. Perhaps if they were dying, the choice would be simple. The easy equation of saving a life, of a desperate situation eliminating all nuance beyond the essential. But when people were merely... uncomfortable... all sorts of social interactions could take place that Daisy was wholly unprepared for.

It was sad, she reflected, that she was most comfortable when lives were on the line. She sighed and ran a finger along one of the 'tusks' that jut from her mask. She had given up wearing a normal bandanna on this trip, and had simply affixed the toothy mask the strange woodsman had gifted her to her face. Amongst the company she kept, she didn't feel as out of place in it as she might have, usually. She still thought it was quite gaudy, though, as if the upper half of her face was perfectly human, and the lower half of it belonged to a boar. She tried to work herself up to interact with someone.

But it was at that moment a conflict seemed to rise up. Between Liam and Vaal, and a large woman that Daisy didn't recognize, who was, apparently, threatening people. And then, as tensions began to abate, the suggestion to explore the ruins was thrown up.

Perfect! Or, not perfect, exactly. But having a mission, an objective, always made interaction easier for Daisy. What's more, the ruins would have good, solid stone. Sand was interesting, but stone was more comfortable ground for Daisy. She walked up to Gwendolyn, pulling sand up from the ground and extending her 'Umbrella' to cover the other woman as well.

"Hello. I would be interested in joining any expedition that you have planned." She said, smiling and forgetting that her smile could not be seen behind her tusked mask.

Ayana was exhausted and annoyed after many days' travel, but when her feet hit the ground she managed to smile. "Thank the mother," she said with a relived sigh. Then she tethered her horse and spoke with Vaaltari for a time. He wanted lessons in advanced battle magic, and she answered with a resounding "Yes of course! Teaching is the best way to learn." He wasn't long on words though, leaving her after the quick exchange was over.

That's when Nadia walked over and quizzed Ayana about Forest Elves. The huntress answered where she could, and eventually the discussion turned to Nadia's life in the desert. The woman wasted no time complaining about everything; from her crazy husband to her harsh profession and the damned desert itself, but at least her sharp tongue was entertaining. She once said, "I'd rather eat live scorpions than Omar's cooking. The oaf could burn charcoal and undercook water."

Ayana giggled and covered her mouth. "I wish he were here to cook for— but she stopped when an argument started in the camp. It was between a mountainous woman and two members of the group, and a crowd slowly surrounded them. "Every time…" Ayana shook her head and glanced at the desert guide. "My apologies, my friends must be too weary to think."

Nadia wolfishly grinned. "No no, this is quite fun to watch."

"For you perhaps. I'll stop this before it gets out of hand." Ayana quietly sighed and trudged to the scene. There were a few onlookers who chipped in from the sidelines, but most of the talking came from Vaaltari, Liam and the barbarian. Liam was the most animated, breaking into a tirade about the woman's brash behavior. It was a shocking sight to see; he was usually relaxed and mild mannered, yet he screamed, squeezed and threatened the large woman. He seemed close to throwing a punch too, so Ayana prepared a spell to immobilize him.

Don't do it, she thought as Liam ended his rant. She expected the barbarian to attack him any second, but thankfully his threats were brushed off, leaving the group to stand around wondering "what the hell just happened?"

Ayana couldn't answer that question, but the group's mass confusion slightly amused her. "We can't go a week without fighting can we.... what's wrong with us?" She deeply exhaled before continuing. "Well at least nobody was hurt, are you alright?" She looked at Liam with concern. The young man was much angrier than normal; his rage was almost palpable. "Just breathe and relax," she said, patting his shoulder a few times. Then she looked at Ameire with a reassuring smile. "He's not a bad man, please forgive him." She paused a moment, thinking over her next words. "I'm surprised to see another elf this far north. What brings you away from the island?"

"aaah yeah I can certainly see your not one for surface living then let alone deserts" Xiko again commented somewhat knowledgeable about the woman species. "indeed nice to meet you as well" he'd again smile listening to Celestine explain how she had to deal with pushing past her own preconceived view and prejudices and notions. Xiko nodded thoughtfully at what the woman was saying. "indeed it is good to hear that you managed to find good in others even if they are very unlike yourself, exploring these huge differences in cultures and places is one of the reasons I left my homeland, so far its been enlighting." Xiko would reply musing at the whole topic at hand seemingly staring off into the rolling sand dunes and he thought about what he'd seen.

his musing was cut short by Celestine asking if he was in the mood for exploring along with perhaps making the angered royal a little more welcome to their group. prompting the dragonfolk to give a wide smile "you know what I would certainly be up for some exploring ruins are always incredibly interesting id be more than happy to accompany you" he replied quickly and excitedly. raising an arm to wave at the woman who had suggested exploring the ruins in the first place. "I'd be excited to join such an expedition miss wonderful idea"
