Patient, polite, cynical, tidy, jocund, verbose - Vittorio's view of the world is bleak, but given his dark sense of humour, he's decided that it must be the punchline of a cosmic joke. He assumes the worst of most people, but feels he must hold himself to certain standards of decorum both in attire and behaviour. He's fond of wordplay and poetry, and to a lesser extent all of the arts.
Vittorio was born in Alicante, Hyerald, the son of moderately wealthy merchants who held education in high regard. As such, he was raised with an emphasis on learning, etiquette, and personal integrity. His father, Lorenzo, had wanted Vittorio to study sorcery; partly as he felt it would be beneficial for his second son - Vittorio's older sister Maria having been promised inheritance at the behest of their mother, Patricia - and partly because Lorenzo was not an entirely honest man who could see financial benefits to power in the family. Patricia Valtieri, on the other hand, spent more time with her son, and impressed upon him the duties of power and influence, taking him with her on charitable ventures and visits to other affluent locals. He never did go on to study sorcery as his family would have wished, however.
Vittorio became interested in Necromancy initially from scholarly interest - could a power be evil simply by its nature, or was that not in the hands of the wielder? Was it simply the case no individual with the proper moral fortitude had yet practised the art? His father's lessons on bending the rules (given largely under the guise of teaching the boy that at times, even the law was not just) led him to dabble, to use his personal funds to acquire books and reagents. Really, the last straw for him was the murder of an elven woman, an immigrant whose death the Watch felt no real need to investigate - she had no family here, few friends, no money, no work. Vittorio used the little he had learned to contact spirits at the site of the crime, and compelled them to witness - who had done this? Presenting this evidence to the watch was a naive move, and achieved nothing save for landing Vittorio and his family in hot water - but some local elves took justice into their own hands as result.
Vittorio was forced to cut ties with his family, lest he disgrace them, and set out on a journey across Asgard around the young age of 20. He made his way by teaching, investigating, and trading in forbidden lore. It was inevitable, really, that he should have to resort to violence some day. Fending off bandits first, later taking the fight to Necromancers who used their powers cruelly. At 30, he settled down back in Alicante, far enough from the family home, and sold his services to the nobility, to the wealthy, to the Watch. Solving crimes outside easy reach, levying vengeance on criminals the law could not touch.
When the demons came, he fought in the open, trying to turn their losses against the enemy, and following the conflict joined the Resistance immediately, continuing to operate in and around Alicante. A warning from his friends in the movement informed him that he was close to discovery, and so Vittorio fled to Daskárd, partly to avoid capture, and partly to refine his skills further.
Around 5'9'', Vittorio is not above wearing boots that give him slightly more presence. His travelling robe is off-white, hard wearing and hard worn, but beneath it he dresses like a gentleman in black and silver, with hints of gray. Much like his hair - gray already, with white spots at the temples, cut into a manageable but moderately fashionable style. His eyes are brown, unremarkable, and while his features are not homely, it would be a stretch to call him handsome. His best feature is probably his chin and jaw, which he accentuates with a painstakingly maintained goatee.
