This is SPOOKY. I am into it. No comments for now, looks solid and balanced, can't wait to see the lad it comes with.
As for your little mean ol' idea (evil, love it) it depends on how long he's been there and how cooperative. I think if anything, they wouldn't mind making a puppet out of him, but it would likely be after the sixth month mark, not before. they like to sort of vet you at first, make the school seem real nice, and gage your compliance levels. so if you wanted him later on to start working with the faculty, we can discuss that further, but the beginning is mostly a trial period where they're real nice and gushy.
Thanks for the feedback! I'm liking the idea more and more the longer I think about it, so I definitely want to explore that. (Is that something I PM you about?) I was feeling pretty excited to write more, so I went ahead and did the skeleton with that briefly mentioned, but I'm obviously definitely willing to change stuff.

Name: Alexander "Alex" Ripley
Age: 17
Alex doesnโ€™t know how he fits in the world. Heโ€™s desperate for acceptance and reassurance, and that desperation can make him easily manipulated. He tries to fit in any way he knows how. Often in interactions, heโ€™ll act however he thinks the person wants him to act. Heโ€™s more focused on appeasing people than he is on being true to himself. He likes seeing people smile, but he doesnโ€™t have the best sense of what makes people happy.
Heโ€™s unsure of himself, and especially in his morality. While staying out of the way, heโ€™s trying to find his purpose in life. Vochertepp had promised to make its students heroes, and when he originally came to the school, that idea fueled him--it was a way to atone for hurting people. However, after using his power, under the schoolโ€™s urging, to hurt more people, Alex doesnโ€™t know if heโ€™s too far gone to be a hero. He sometimes wonders if his place in life is to be a villain.
Paralyzing Dreamscape: When Alex comes in physical contact with any other living creature, energy flows from the point of contact towards the creatureโ€™s neck. The feeling of this energy is reminiscent of electricity. When the energy reaches the neck, the creature becomes paralyzed and is forcefully thrust into a hallucinatory world which Alex controls. While unable to physically move during paralysis, the creatureโ€™s perceived movements in the hallucination will be uninhibited(the brain will still be able to create/send impulses, but they will be interrupted by Alexโ€™s energy at the top of the spinal column, meaning the creature perceives they are moving but are actually not).
Any events that happen in the hallucination will generate (phantom) sensations that the victim feels--water in the hallucination would feel like water, pain would be pain, etc.. However, nothing that happens while hallucinating has a physical effect on the creatureโ€™s body.
If it is aware enough, creatures in the dreamscape will understand they are hallucinating. The lasting effects of a horrifying hallucination depend entirely on the creatureโ€™s mental fortitude. If they are able to separate the events of the hallucination from the real world, it might be a scary or unpleasant experience, but it will have no lasting effects. In a worst-case scenario, the hallucinations could leave someone with PTSD.

Weaknesses: The closer to the Cervical Spinal Vertebrae (neck) that Alex touches, the faster the paralysis will go into effect. If someone is able to stop contact in that time, nothing will happen to them.
People are also able to get used to the paralysis. After paralysis occurs, so long as Alex is touching them the hallucinations will remain, but they will start to regain control of their body. At this time, the paralysis will only remain for an hour at most. Should Alex attempt to restart paralysis by removing and replacing contact, the time limit will get smaller and smaller as tolerance builds. If used often enough, someone could become temporarily immune to the paralysis (if Alex doesnโ€™t use it for long enough on them, the tolerance will disappear). However, so long as Alex is in contact with them, they will hallucinate.
Alex can touch multiple people at one time, but is unable to differentiate their hallucinations. So theyโ€™d experience the exact same thing. If they reacted differently to the hallucination, it would become more apparent that it was fake.
Alex cannot separate the powers. If someone wants to intentionally enter the hallucination, they will be paralyzed. And if Alex wants to paralyze someone, they will hallucinate.
Also, Alex needs to concentrate on the hallucination. It works directly on his thoughts, so if he spoke while using his powers, the target would somehow hear whatever he said. If he was simply touching someone without consciously generating a hallucination, they would hallucinate Alexโ€™s stream of consciousness.
Alexโ€™s powers first manifested during his motherโ€™s pregnancy. At one point during the 9-month ordeal, his mother became paralyzed. The cause was unknown, but with time, the paralysis turned to sluggishness, which then turned into a brain fog that his mother passed off as pregnancy brain. The paralysis of multiple hospital staff during his birth set in motion a life of loneliness for Alex.
His parents tried, but despite coming from generations of metahumans, they were unable to find a way to truly deal with Alexโ€™s power. At first, it was only an inconvenience--a quick foray into the mind of a toddler. But, when Alex was 4, he began to have vivid nightmares. Climbing into his parentsโ€™ bed meant visions of horrifying creatures they couldnโ€™t escape from. Even still, they put up with sleepless nights. But then, Alex began affecting his younger sister, Taylor.
As his night terrors got worse and worse, he couldnโ€™t stop himself from thinking of them. A hug from his sister more often than not resulted in the young girl crying in fear. His parents began to comfort him less and less, and his sister avoided him all together.
One day, his childish jealousy got the best of him. He cornered his sister and deliberately subjected her to as much terror as his little mind could conjure. When the paralysis wore off and Tay pushed him away, Alex realized what heโ€™d done. But the damage couldn't be reversed.
His parents scorned him and yelled anytime he got near his sister. Rightfully remorseful, Alex accepted their hatred, believing it was what he deserved. That was how his life remained until his parents received the letter from Vochertepp. He happily allowed himself to be shipped off.
Touch starved and desperate for acceptance, he arrived at Vochertepp. Unfortunately, that allowed him to be easily manipulated. One of the schoolโ€™s staff members had the ability to coat their skin in metal and by doing so, was able to touch Alex without being paralyzed. Alex latched on to this staff member, desperately trying to appease them in hopes of a pat on the back or a ruffle of his hair. As time went on, that attachment was noticed and Alex became a puppet for Vochertepp.
His power was, at times, used to punish other students, forcing them to endure hellish hallucinations. He was their pawn for a year, until one day a girl he'd met often--through the punishments--broke. The hallucination ended, and the fire in her eyes didnโ€™t relight. She was escorted to the schoolโ€™s medical facility and never left. (Iโ€™m not sure if these last two paragraphs fit in with the lore youโ€™ve established. Do all the staff members change as time goes on, or are there some that stay?)
For a couple months after that, he didnโ€™t use his powers at all. When he did begin to use them again, he refused to participate in any more punishments. He doesnโ€™t rebel nor comply with Vochertepp, and because of that (and perhaps in hopes that they can rebuild the relationship they had before), Vochertepp hasnโ€™t taken any blatant action against his refusal.

since the roleplay is 18+, i assume we can include more mature things in our character's backstory? i have an idea for a girl who's power is addictive, and i wanted to include it in her backstory, but i'm not sure if it would be too much

Name: Nathan Alnujum

Age: 17
1627614242432.png

Personality:

Nathan has always been a rather upbeat person; he's always believed in the philosophy of diplomacy and arbitration. Believing violence and anger should only be a last resort if all else has failed. He's also quite outspoken, willing to say whatever is on his mind to someone with almost no thought on how it actually sounds, and this often leads to people getting quite angry with him, ironically. Luckily he's a good runner too. As much as he is upbeat, he is also very cautious, he's seen the ugliness of humanity, and he knows people are cruel for no real reason.

Nathan has also always been superstitious, he refuses to walk under ladders when given a chance, and whenever he sees a coin on the ground, he flips it and continues about his day. As a result of being so superstitious, Nathan will also judge people and their persona off of their zodiac. While some people like looking up the meaning for some, Nathan takes it to a whole new level of seriousness, to the level of not even asking some people their zodiac in fear they might not be compatible and may ruin the relationship.

Powers:

Liquiduskinesis:

Nathan has the power to manipulate all liquids, oil, water, even blood. If it flows and is in a liquid state, Nathan can control it. When moving liquids, it appears as telekinesis, moving it without touching; however, the same power doesn't translate to non-liquid entities. The liquid doesn't even need to be in direct line of sight to be manipulated; as long as Nathan knows it's there and is in reasonable vicinity of it, he can manipulate it. The applications for the powers are practically endless, and his blood manipulation can be used to both help and hurt people. If someone is bleeding out, he can clot the wound, or if someone is attacking him, he can prevent blood from moving to their heart.

Limits: The amount of energy needed to manipulate a liquid translates to how much of a liquid he is manipulating and the thickness of the liquid. In practice, water would be a lot easier to manipulate when compared to a thicker liquid such as blood, which he can only endure controlling for a short period of time before he collapses of exhaustion. Nathan can improve his powers with constant training and conditioning, a hard and brutal process.

Weaknesses: His powers are limited at moving the liquid only, he can't manifest liquids from thin air, he also can't change their properties, for example, turning water to ice via changing its temperature, with growth, training and extra knowledge these should all be feats Nathan could overcome within in his lifetime. The speed at which he can move liquid is also rather underwhelming, and he can't move liquid fast enough to make it a piercing force; in the case of water, it's more of a utility ability.

Background:

Both of Nathan's parents were novice liquid benders, and they planned his birth as an experiment to play God and grow something more powerful than themselves. From birth, Nathan had shown signs of liquiduskinesis; he could move the water in the bath in unusual ways. His parents were ecstatic, and since then, his training had started. The various scenarios and training varied from easy to cruel and unkind; as he grew older, the training became more intensive and obscure. Time and time again, he'd fail these tests, time and time again, his parents would continue to lose hope in their pet project actually taking form; through his adolescence, it became clear he was never going to be the liquid manipulator his parents envisioned. They started to distance themselves, neglecting him and his needs; it got to where his parents stopped talking to him.

The closest people to him were now the most distant; he felt isolated; he felt like a failure. One night Nathan could hear his mother crying, asking what they did wrong, begging some God to rid them of this burden, to free them. Nathan was at a cross between rage and despair; he didn't know if to run away or hide in bed and cry. He decided to let cooler heads prevail. The next day was quite unusual; the atmosphere felt different; it was almost like he was in a dream of sorts. He shrugged it off, going about his day as he would any other. However, the day got weirder as he found a letter addressed to him in the letterbox. He'd never got mail before, he rushed inside, taking the letter to his room to rip open. You know where the story goes from here.

Nathan had replaced the devil he knew with a greater evil, Vochertepp. At first, the school seemed excellent; like-minded kids surrounded him, but the veil started to be lifted, crueller teachers slowly replaced the teachers with crueller ones. They were much like his parents, with unreasonably high expectations, obscurely cruel punishments, all whilst reminding him he not only left his parents but he could never return, and it was all his fault. Nathan further began to lose himself, whilst his parents gave up on him, Vochertepp punished him into succeeding. He started losing his upbeatness, becoming more jaded.

theoretically the topic should be fine, it depends on the context/application but darker themes are present so i could see such a thing happening, yes!

Edsel
Darbyshire
  • .

Name: Edsel Darbyshire

Age: 16

Personality: Edsel is a spitfire in the sincerest sense of the word. This is partially due to his powers, which we'll get into -- but he's not of sound mind or gentle temperament. He's moody to the point of madness, and can pounce at the slightest provocation. This is a trait that's been cultivated by his counselors to make him the ultimate metahuman slaughter machine. He appears almost doglike in nature when provoked, a result of traumatic conditioning over almost ten years of his life that makes him difficult to get close to and easy to anger. But he is still human, much to the chagrin of his "creators". He does have a moral compass, but that's largely overpowered by years of traumatic conditioning. Sure, he has hobbies, feelings, interests -- but at his core, he is a government weapon

Backstory: Edsel was the painfully average son of two celebrity superheroes from Wales, who were living in the US at the time. They waited and waited for his powers to awaken -- no dice. This wasn't how it should've been, they thought. But they'd heard stories. Tales of people experiencing great physical trauma and suddenly awakening their metahuman powers. Immense powers, oftentimes. Their son would be the perfect TV hero. It wouldn't fail. It couldn't. So, with their money and status, they paid off a black market service for assistance.

At age six, Edsel experienced things no child ought to. In his first two years, the brain damage he suffered was so severe that he was barely recognizable personality-wise. Due to the fact that this was being done illegally and not by anyone with real scientific chops, they basically tried everything in the hopes that it'd work. However, they persisted until finally, a full six years after acquiring him, he awakened. Unfortunately, Edsel wasn't the wonderful, TV-ready son his mother and father had hoped for. In fact, they figured that if the public were to see what he'd been turned into, they'd be absolutely horrified. His powers were grotesque, and his persona was erratic. That combined with Edsel's rare public appearances in the last six years spoke disaster for his parents, so they worked something out with Vochertepp. He'd be trained, turned into the perfect machine, and in turn, papers would be fabricated claiming Edsel's death. If he ever recovered mentally, he could return to the public. Call it a miracle.

The next several years were spent taming Edsel, or at least attempting to. While he did gain control of his powers, he had lost control of his personality, and only became more unmanageable as puberty hit. He was definitely not a well-liked student among the staff, and has remained that way ever since. Over time they managed to figure him out using some combination of Pavlovian reward tactics and playing on his childhood trauma, so it's definitely easier now than it was before. He has no friends, but that's okay. He doesn't need them.

Powers: With a mother who controls electricity and a father who has super-strength, it seemed a bit odd that Edsel's power turned out to be bone manipulation. This was attributed to the natural "electricity" inside of the human body. Edsel can manipulate his bones and teeth at will, with relatively little damage beyond ripping his own skin sometimes. His bones are insanely strong and have never broken in his entire life, so he's been known to morph his body into some pretty heinous-looking H.R. Geiger-looking creatures. He's been known to grow spiky bone spurs on his back if you touch him without asking, and his teeth can get incredibly long. Though it's a painful process, he's gotten used to it.

here's the edited update. let me know if you need anything else fixed.

i think this is good for now! feel free to get going on the full cs!

Ah you're right, I can definitely see how the power gets translated as solar only but I think what I was leaning for was his power being more akin to just the science behind stars in general, not something that he needs the sun specifically to achieve. I'm not very good at working through scientific processes though so I'm not quite sure how to describe it ๐Ÿ˜‚. I can probably look into more how the body processes energy and see how I can draw a comparison to how stars process energy. Would that still be okay? I will try writing in his personality change when using the power specifically as making him really impulsive and chaotic due to the energy coursing through him instead of going for a harsh split. I think it'd be kind of fun to write through his power being dangerous enough that using it period is like a weakness in and of itself. Thank you for looking over it! ๐Ÿ˜
maybe you want to go the route of nuclear fusion - using energy of the stars to power himself? there's a lot of ways to go about, but i could see if he was taking power from such a volatile source being a strain on his body and control for sure. (i'm no scientist either, it's just where the rp draws inspiration for obviously non scientific things yafeel)

Thanks for the feedback! I'm liking the idea more and more the longer I think about it, so I definitely want to explore that. (Is that something I PM you about?) looking good, a couple clarification questions possibly for my own benefit:
is the feeling of electricity he produces painful when paralyzing someone? like a shock?
does his power come from his hands or is it touching him at all? (if just hands, are gloves not enough to contain it?)
and if a bunch of people are in a line holding hands and alex touches one of them, do they all get paralyzed? haha
otherwise, you're free to go on to the full cs!

~~~
a quick update while i'm at it -- super glad to see all these cs' come at me rapid fire, very honored to have your interest. just to be clear, the "next phase" is finishing up your cs and pming it to me. there, i might give a couple more comments or something, but i will accept fully finished cs' not by a rolling basis, but after a certain deadline i will set .... soon. but again, thanks so much for all the interest and lovely characters that i am having a blast reading!
Good questions!
is the feeling of electricity he produces painful when paralyzing someone? like a shock?
It's not painful. It's low-level electric stimulation, so if you've ever used a TENS machine or something, it's like that. It would cause tingles in the muscles but nothing else.
does his power come from his hands or is it touching him at all? (if just hands, are gloves not enough to contain it?)
It's any skin-to-skin contact. So, he probably does wear gloves and long sleeves most days, but he's not ever 100% covered.
and if a bunch of people are in a line holding hands and alex touches one of them, do they all get paralyzed? haha
๐Ÿ˜† I hadn't even thought about this. I think the answer is no? Maybe a couple of decades down the line it would be something he could do, but it would require a ton of training.
Idk if I did this right butโ€ฆ.. here
Name: Nora Finch
Age: 16
Personality: Nora was a very โ€œstick to yourselfโ€ kind of person. She wasnโ€™t shy per se, but she just didnโ€™t make friends very easily. Being alone gave her a lot of time to herself, and she used that time pretty wisely. She used it to train and study, so she considers herself quite smart, since all she ever does is do things that help her grades and performance go up. But studying and training all the time can be tiring even for Nora so whenever this happens, she does what she always does. She plays with her blood, it always seems to calm her down. How she gets the blood, that isnโ€™t really important for right now. And she plays with her blood, using her power and thanks to all the training she does, itโ€™s become like second nature to use it.
Powers: Her family wasnโ€™t a family of meta-humans at all, they were just normal people, with the exception of Nora. She noticed from a young age that she had a cool power, blood manipulation. As its name suggests, blood manipulation allows her to manipulate blood, whether that be her own or other people. Although she is much more comfortable to control her own than controlling others since she hasnโ€™t gotten the chance to manipulate other peopleโ€™s blood. There are drawbacks that Nora has noticed though. One of them is that she can only control blood if the target is 45 meters away from her. Also to control another person's blood, she needs to shed or ingest some of her own blood, And the last one is fairly obvious, she could pass out or even die from too much blood loss. But her power can become a lot stronger with practice and training, like controlling others' blood by ingesting only a drop of her own blood or increasing the distance in which she can control blood.
Background: Nora grew up in a big non meta-human family, she had 3 other siblings alongside her parents. When she showed her powers to her family, they were shocked to say the least, and they exploited it. Since Nora was the youngest, everyone else would ask her to do things using her power. Whether that be reaching something on a high shelf or using her power to do chores around the house. Then when the time came to send Nora to school, they were at a loss on what to do. Nora had gotten so used to her power at a young age that they were scared that she might use her power in school. In the end, they sent her to kindergarten and told Nora not to use it at any cost, but being young, she accidentally used it. The school let her stay till the end of kindergarten, but after that she had to leave. Her parents were at a loss, they didnโ€™t have enough time to watch her so she asked her siblings to teach her whenever they had the time. And this worked for awhile, but as her siblings got older, they had more things to do so the family was left with a discussion on what to do with Nora. But after about a week of discussing, the letter came asking Nora to attend the school, she was only 10 at the time. Since her birthday was in a few months, her family let her go when she turned 11. She thought the school was great, she could use her powers pretty freely, but as time passed by, she noticed how much they expected her to accomplish. She wanted to retaliate, saying that they shouldnโ€™t put this much pressure on children, but she couldnโ€™t, because in a weird way, the school was her safe place, and she hated that.
โ€” POWER (BLURBS).
"ANGEL" PHYSIOLOGY
Elijah's father and mother were both meta-human; the former possessed the ability to ingest titanium and in turn synthesize it and have it grow out of parts of his body, creating extra "limbs", other such projectiles, even turning his own skin into a sheen of titanium "armour". His mother's was more on the subtle side; she had the ability to produce her own kind of venom from her fingertips, tears, blood, saliva, etc;.
The result of their union led Elijah to be born with two extra buds protruding out of his shoulder blades, which later developed into two separate feathered "limbs" made up of extremely hardened keratin (a sort of biological hybrid alloy equivalent of titanium). The ability to shoot his feathers out came later in his childhood, where the discovery that his feathers actually possessed central points containing vestibular toxins was made.
STRENGTHS:
Elijah was born with his power; flight had been as natural and early a process as learning to walk was. To add on to his feathers' titanium-esque durability, they are also quite lightweight and naturally flexible. Combine this with Elijah's lifelong expertise, and the near-acrobatic skill shines through. He is a natural with flight, and has spent much time developing his own flight patterns and stunts to compliment his combat training and most times, just for entertainment's sake.
Speed and quick wing/muscle reflex is also another strengthening factor; Elijah's highest recorded speed was 148 kilometers per hour. His feathers can regrow, and he has nearly mastered the ability to control the toxic concentration of his feathers, using the resulting feeling of vertigo as a gauge to sense how noxious to make them. The toxicity itself is vestibular; meaning the effects injure the balance structures in the ear and/or the neurons that help control balance. The damage is set to be temporary most of the time; enough to give Elijah those extra few lucky seconds or minutes to deliver a final blow.
WEAKNESSES:
Naturally, like many of his fellow classmates, Eli does not possess full mastery of his powers. When it comes to his feather-ejection ability, its quantity over quality; precision and aim haven't quite entered the picture yet. And even then, there's still some work to be done; Elijah's highest record of feather shots fired was twenty-two in a row. On average, he shoots about a dozen and in flight, this number lowers to about half that number. If he tries to shoot out too much much too fast, he is immediately overcome by a serious bout of vertigo, which usually causes him to pass out, which is dangerous, especially mid-flight. On average, his feather regrowth rate is about two days.
And just like a sword needs it whetstone, Eli's titanium-esque keratin feathers need lots of good food to keep up their ultra metahuman durability and sharpness. This means that Eli has one hell of an appetite, and his diet regularly consists of foods rich in promoting the production of keratin (eggs, salmon, beef lover, carrots, onion, dark greens, nuts, etc). If Eli does not take care of his diet, his wings will suffer along with the rest of his body - all abilities relating to his wings decrease and suffer.
And just like any ordinary limb, Eli's wings are bone, and not immune to being broken. Though they possess the durability and lightweight nature of titanium, his feathers do not possess it's heat resistant properties and are quite sensitive to heat damage. Eli's wings are his biggest source of strength, but they are also his potential biggest liability; an injury to his wings or more importantly, his spine can affect all areas of his combat style, and in the case of his back, can cause immense pain and take months to heal back properly.
Elijah is also not immune to the toxic nature of his own feathers, though the effects are less potent. His wings are also "semi" retractable, meaning that he can only go in meta-incognito mode for very short periods at a time (twenty minutes to half an hour), before shoulder pain begins to trickle in, signaling to let the dogs out.
โ€” BACKGROUND (BLURBS).
Elijah was an easy, delightful baby leading an easy, delightful life. With the fresh country wind in his golden locks and the taste of homegrown apples on his lips, the first portion of his young life was spent within the confines a sweeping country estate, isolated from the rest of the world. His education came in the form of an endless stream of tutors, while his upbringing was left in the hands of a small entourage of nannies and maids. When his mother, Isla Meldrake, was well enough, they would take walks across the endless acres, laughing at his mother's dry humoured jokes and marveling at how much higher and faster he could fly that day.
It was a charmed life, one that one could only see captured in paintings. Yet in this one, one crucial element seemed to be missing: Malcolm Meldrake.
His wife knew him as Mal, the handsome, steely-eyed rookie she had fallen in love with as a young, silly, stupid girl. Elijah knew him as the awe-inspiring yet distant figure who would appear at home for a few weeks every season, before being whisked off again to rejoin the rest of the world, where he was known as the Iron Titan, or as the media dubbed him,
the real life Man of Steel.
But with enough pressure, even metal can bend and break. The news of his sudden death spread far and wide, but when it hit home, it hit hard. With the death of one their top agents, the government came, like the grim reaper, to reap everything else that his contract had assured and provided.
Of course, not everything needed to be so heartless; a deal could be made, they said. A comfortable life for widow and child, they said, but all Isla could see was a replay of the life she'd led so far; under the government's control yet again, like marionettes to someone else's play. Worst of all, she could see the vultures circling for her son, whom they saw as the natural heir to the Iron Titan's legacy. She refused it all, and despite her ailing health, resolved to carve out a more independent, normal life and steer her son clear of the dark, mistaken path her husband chose.
And so, the charmed life Elijah knew faded away, as insubstantial as the shimmering heat haze. He celebrated his eighth birthday in a small, 500 sq foot apartment that his mother managed to snag with her savings. Life had shrunk, that was for sure and certain, but it wasn't all bad. He and his mother grew close in a way they never did before, and Elijah was excited to join a real school that following September. But Isla's health came knocking, demanding her strength, attention, and ability to provide. Countless hospital visits and payments for medication that were no longer covered by the government ate up her savings like a wolf on the hunt. Discrimination against meta-humans and her health impeded her from maintaining any semblance of a job, and worst of all, Elijah was going hungry nights at a time and the shadow of the vultures were never too far away.
Finally, Isla too, broke down. Perhaps she had overestimated her health, or underestimated the harsh reality of attempting to start new lives. Maybe it was the eviction from their small apartment, or the hardness of the sleeping mats in their new home; crowded, under-funded, dilapidated shelter for meta-women and their children, where the strongest tormented the weak, and Elijah suffered the worst of it.
Judgment came, and saw Isla as unfit, sending her away to a facility better equipped to handle her condition. Nine-year old Elijah, on the other hand, was sent away to fulfill what was his natural birthright; spending the rest of his childhood in the same place his father once trained, graduated and became a celebrated alumni of, in order to become the renowned, heroic, modern-day Man of Steel: Vochertrepp.
Personality: For a majority of her life, Stas believed she was alone. She knew of superheroes but was so conditioned by her parents that she was made to believe they were abominations. That she was an abomination. Vocherteppโ€™s was a culture shock. She made friends for the first time and did actual teenager things, stumbling her way through adolescence like a newborn calf learning how to walk for the first time. It was like she was finally able to become her own person. That person is hardworking, stubborn, and unwilling to accept the unfair circumstances that metahumans have been dealt. But that person is also afraid, cautious, and often can't find the words to express how she truly feels about something. So she sits back, quietly, obediently, and observes her surroundings. Stas doesn't cause trouble or voice how angry she is as the world. Instead she seethes quietly, putting her energy into other things so that someday, perhaps, she can finally do something. She sees the world through an optimistic lens, so eager to tentatively step out and really become someone, but how can you become someone original when all you know how to do is mimic?
Background: When it comes to superheroes, Stas' family often turned to look the other way. They'd pretend they lived in another world, changing the channel when one would show up on the TV screen or moving topics if they came up in conversation. As far as her family were concerned, superpowers didn't exist. Until she was born, the middle child of three, and the only one with superpowers. They found out on her fifth birthday, when they came into her bedroom to find her standing on the ceiling, talking to a house spider that had somehow gotten in. The house quickly delved into a panic, and she spent the rest of the day locked into her room after the spider was promptly exterminated, birthday party long forgotten. For the next several years, her family kept things hush hush, never speaking about her abilities and locking her away when she couldn't control them. The neighbors started whispering whenever she was around. Access to TV quickly became restricted, along with internet, and strict rules were set in place. She was like Rapunzel, locked away, hiding from the rest of the world for who knew how long. Her own siblings avoided her, gave her dirty looks, and at school she isolated herself for fear of her abilities making an appearance. The letter showed up when she was fifteen, and for a long time she kept it hidden. Didn't even consider the idea โ€“ it was crazy, her parents would kill her if they thought she was trying to run away. But they found the letter one day, slightly crumpled underneath her mattress, and promptly shipped her off to Vocherteppโ€™s. They finally got what they wanted all along: a normal family. And she went from one living hell to another. At least her family was honest about it.
005.jpg
Powers: The first in her family to have superpowers (that she knows of), Stas' are unique. She can perfectly mimic the abilities of any living thing she can see, whether it's someone with other powers or a spider crawling on the ceiling of her bedroom. For example, if she sees a shark swimming in the ocean, she can sprout gills and breathe underwater if she so chooses. Or an expert martial artist on the television โ€“ she could easily copy their skill. The catch is that she has to be within line of sight of the source, or it becomes extremely difficult, or impossible to maintain. It also helps if she's studied the source extensively, learning where the abilities come from so she can copy them with more ease. The more she knows about a subject, the easier it is for her to mimic its abilities. Attempting to mimic something or someone that she either can't see or doesn't know very much about is dangerous, and can result in not being able to change back or worse โ€“ not being able to control her powers. She can't mimic something merely from memory and without being near it unless she's studied it extensively, which is only the case with one thing in her life as of right now: spiders. Her experience as a child led her to getting a pet tarantula once she moved into the school's housing.
good morning gang! back on the grind
Name: Nathan Alnujum
Age: 17
View attachment 902128
Personality:
Nathan has always been a rather upbeat person; he's always believed in the philosophy of diplomacy and arbitration. Believing violence and anger should only be a last resort if all else has failed. He's also quite outspoken, willing to say whatever is on his mind to someone with almost no thought on how it actually sounds, and this often leads to people getting quite angry with him, ironically. Luckily he's a good runner too. As much as he is upbeat, he is also very cautious, he's seen the ugliness of humanity, and he knows people are cruel for no real reason.
Nathan has also always been superstitious, he refuses to walk under ladders when given a chance, and whenever he sees a coin on the ground, he flips it and continues about his day. As a result of being so superstitious, Nathan will also judge people and their persona off of their zodiac. While some people like looking up the meaning for some, Nathan takes it to a whole new level of seriousness, to the level of not even asking some people their zodiac in fear they might not be compatible and may ruin the relationship.
Powers:
Liquiduskinesis:
Nathan has the power to manipulate all liquids, oil, water, even blood. If it flows and is in a liquid state, Nathan can control it. When moving liquids, it appears as telekinesis, moving it without touching; however, the same power doesn't translate to non-liquid entities. The liquid doesn't even need to be in direct line of sight to be manipulated; as long as Nathan knows it's there and is in reasonable vicinity of it, he can manipulate it. The applications for the powers are practically endless, and his blood manipulation can be used to both help and hurt people. If someone is bleeding out, he can clot the wound, or if someone is attacking him, he can prevent blood from moving to their heart.
Limits: The amount of energy needed to manipulate a liquid translates to how much of a liquid he is manipulating and the thickness of the liquid. In practice, water would be a lot easier to manipulate when compared to a thicker liquid such as blood, which he can only endure controlling for a short period of time before he collapses of exhaustion. Nathan can improve his powers with constant training and conditioning, a hard and brutal process.
Weaknesses: His powers are limited at moving the liquid only, he can't manifest liquids from thin air, he also can't change their properties, for example, turning water to ice via changing its temperature, with growth, training and extra knowledge these should all be feats Nathan could overcome within in his lifetime. The speed at which he can move liquid is also rather underwhelming, and he can't move liquid fast enough to make it a piercing force; in the case of water, it's more of a utility ability.
Background:
Both of Nathan's parents were novice liquid benders, and they planned his birth as an experiment to play God and grow something more powerful than themselves. From birth, Nathan had shown signs of liquiduskinesis; he could move the water in the bath in unusual ways. His parents were ecstatic, and since then, his training had started. The various scenarios and training varied from easy to cruel and unkind; as he grew older, the training became more intensive and obscure. Time and time again, he'd fail these tests, time and time again, his parents would continue to lose hope in their pet project actually taking form; through his adolescence, it became clear he was never going to be the liquid manipulator his parents envisioned. They started to distance themselves, neglecting him and his needs; it got to where his parents stopped talking to him.
The closest people to him were now the most distant; he felt isolated; he felt like a failure. One night Nathan could hear his mother crying, asking what they did wrong, begging some God to rid them of this burden, to free them. Nathan was at a cross between rage and despair; he didn't know if to run away or hide in bed and cry. He decided to let cooler heads prevail. The next day was quite unusual; the atmosphere felt different; it was almost like he was in a dream of sorts. He shrugged it off, going about his day as he would any other. However, the day got weirder as he found a letter addressed to him in the letterbox. He'd never got mail before, he rushed inside, taking the letter to his room to rip open. You know where the story goes from here.
Nathan had replaced the devil he knew with a greater evil, Vochertepp. At first, the school seemed excellent; like-minded kids surrounded him, but the veil started to be lifted, crueller teachers slowly replaced the teachers with crueller ones. They were much like his parents, with unreasonably high expectations, obscurely cruel punishments, all whilst reminding him he not only left his parents but he could never return, and it was all his fault. Nathan further began to lose himself, whilst his parents gave up on him, Vochertepp punished him into succeeding. He started losing his upbeatness, becoming more jaded.
solid start over here! you can move on to the full sheet!
Idk if I did this right butโ€ฆ.. here
Name: Nora Finch
Personality: Nora was a very โ€œstick to yourselfโ€ kind of person. She wasnโ€™t shy per se, but she just didnโ€™t make friends very easily. Being alone gave her a lot of time to herself, and she used that time pretty wisely. She used it to train and study, so she considers herself quite smart, since all she ever does is do things that help her grades and performance go up. But studying and training all the time can be tiring even for Nora so whenever this happens, she does what she always does. She plays with her blood, it always seems to calm her down. How she gets the blood, that isnโ€™t really important for right now. And she plays with her blood, using her power and thanks to all the training she does, itโ€™s become like second nature to use it.
Powers: Her family wasnโ€™t a family of meta-humans at all, they were just normal people, with the exception of Nora. She noticed from a young age that she had a cool power, blood manipulation. As its name suggests, blood manipulation allows her to manipulate blood, whether that be her own or other people. Although she is much more comfortable to control her own than controlling others since she hasnโ€™t gotten the chance to manipulate other peopleโ€™s blood. There are drawbacks that Nora has noticed though. One of them is that she can only control blood if the target is 45 meters away from her. Also to control another person's blood, she needs to shed or ingest some of her own blood, And the last one is fairly obvious, she could pass out or even die from too much blood loss. But her power can become a lot stronger with practice and training, like controlling others' blood by ingesting only a drop of her own blood or increasing the distance in which she can control blood.
Background: Nora grew up in a big non meta-human family, she had 3 other siblings alongside her parents. When she showed her powers to her family, they were shocked to say the least, and they exploited it. Since Nora was the youngest, everyone else would ask her to do things using her power. Whether that be reaching something on a high shelf or using her power to do chores around the house. Then when the time came to send Nora to school, they were at a loss on what to do. Nora had gotten so used to her power at a young age that they were scared that she might use her power in school. In the end, they sent her to kindergarten and told Nora not to use it at any cost, but being young, she accidentally used it. The school let her stay till the end of kindergarten, but after that she had to leave. Her parents were at a loss, they didnโ€™t have enough time to watch her so she asked her siblings to teach her whenever they had the time. And this worked for awhile, but as her siblings got older, they had more things to do so the family was left with a discussion on what to do with Nora. But after about a week of discussing, the letter came asking Nora to attend the school, she was only 10 at the time. Since her birthday was in a few months, her family let her go when she turned 11. She thought the school was great, she could use her powers pretty freely, but as time passed by, she noticed how much they expected her to accomplish. She wanted to retaliate, saying that they shouldnโ€™t put this much pressure on children, but she couldnโ€™t, because in a weird way, the school was her safe place, and she hated that.
(you did the skeleton right!)
hmm, i have a couple thoughts about the powers. 45 meters is quite a far range in my opinion, and i'm also confused as to why she needs to shed and ingest her own blood to control others.
also, how were her parents forcing her to use her blood manipulation powers around the house? i read the background first and had thought you were going for a telekinetic power but that sentence just threw me for a loop.
she looks excellent! i love the route you went with the parents who like to pretend metahumans don't exist. definitely a thing in this world and sucks to have those for your parents. (also love the pet tarantula) you're good to move on the full sheet!
just a reminder, i'm gonna try to keep comments to fully finished skeleton sheets, so be sure to tag me when you're done! if you want specifically some advice on your power or such before moving on to bg, let me know.
quick update for everyone! i've done some deadline settin'
the hard deadline for full sheets will be due friday, august 6th. (at 12am est/9pm pst so you have the full day) that's a week from now.
skeleton cs' can be posted until wednesday, august 4th (also at 12amt/9pm so once again, full day.)
remember, you can't get a full cs in unless your skeleton cs is approved by me, but if you're active and communicative i won't cut you off if you're keeping me in the loop.
give me a like if we feel ok about this deadline! i think with us splitting the cs into a basic overview and a slightly more detailed sheet, it shouldn't be too hard to get the full one going once you've been approved since you have all the essential pieces.
and as always keep the awesome cs' and questions coming!
omg I cannot believe I am late to this. pls excuse my absolute headassery
what powers are still open? i'm heading out to work so I haven't gotten the chance to check the accepted skeletons
POWERS: Molecular Manipulation - An umbrella term for powers that affect objects at the molecular level. It has 8 sub-categories, though she is able to wield about half. Liseli's abilities are the result of a long line of Molecular Manipulators coming together to have children, who then find other hybrids under the same umbrella with a different specialization to have stronger children.
two
SPECIALIZATIONS:
โ˜† Molecular Acceleration- Molecular Acceleration is the ability to make molecules reverberate at a speed which causes them to become disordered, this causes the object to rapidly heat up. As a result of this heat, the power can cause a target to melt or ignite.
โ˜† Molecular Combustion- Molecular Combustion (usually referred to as blasting objects or blowing up objects) is the power to speed up molecules to the point of combustion, causing an explosion.
โ˜†Molecular Deceleration- Molecular Deceleration enables the user to seemingly slow down time, putting individuals or objects into slow motion.
โ˜†Molecular Reversion- Molecular Reversion is the ability to shift molecules back into their previous order and state. This can be used to revert transformed objects and beings back to their natural form.
Liseli is only able to use her Molecular Combustion and her Molecular Acceleration at this point in time. The school has been trying their hardest to push her to her limits and force all of her abilities to come forward for more than a second, but she'll often fall unconscious before the pressure requirement to fully unlock the other two. However, whenever she's alone, she'll make a game out of discovering creative ways to use the Acceleration and Combustion, just in case the others never show up. As of right now, her favorites are super charging a weapon of her choice to pack a more lethal hit, no matter what it is, or grabbing random objects that are around and charging them enough for them to explode, the force rising the bigger the object is [i.e. a pencil won't have nearly as much force as a notebook]. For example, if she grabs an apple and throws it, she can make the molecules move at just below the Combustion level so that instead of a minor bruise like normal, it can either knock the person completely back or set everything it touches on fire. OR, she could make the molecules move at insane speeds then throw it, giving it the explosion factor of a frag grenade.
two
two
WEAKNESSES:
ยค She is only able to manipulate objects she can physically touch with her hands, and it must be solid. She can not manipulate any sort of liquid or gas, unlike her mother. She also can't charge living things.
ยค If she tries to change an object that's too large, her hand will burn like hellfire before she passes out. The largest object she is able to charge as of right now is a bedside table. Do not ask how she knows, let's just say...she is without a roommate now. And they werent on good terms when she left.
ยค She must keep skin contact until the object is fully charged to the level she wants, meaning she often burns herself whenever she uses her powers since her skin didn't adapt to save her. So she always has band-aid covered blisters on her hands
ยค Using her powers require concentration. If she can't concentrate, then her powers weaken significantly.
Liseli Zaltana
PERSONALITY: If you asked 7 people how they'd describe Liseli, you'd get 7 different descriptions. This is because she mimics the personality of whoever she's around, due to her not really trusting or knowing her own personality. All of the important figures in her life had hated her when she was herself, so her final verdict was that she just wasn't a likable person and shouldn't be herself if she wanted to be at least minorly accepted and have friends. So she stopped. At 11 years old, she'd decided that she'd try her best to study her peers and form a personality from that. 6 years later, she's a professional now, and can't even remember what she herself was like.
BACKGROUND: Liseli's existence is a minorly sick joke, and her parents hadn't appreciated the humor. Let's explain. Liseli is the eldest daughter of Cochise and Winona Zaltana. Cochise is the last in a long line of people who purposefully chose other Molecular Manipulators for their children, arranged a marriage, then had them bare children for the chance of achieving a child that can control ALL of the sub-categories of their craft. Cochise hadn't wanted what they did. He wanted to meet someone naturally, fall in love, and live life. So he ran away, changing his name and appearance, then hid his powers. He eventually met a woman named Winona, a non meta-human, and got married, living a happy but quiet life. Until Liseli came out and got a little older. When the girl had gotten a little too angry at 4 and threw a doll that lit her room on fire. Winona had panicked and screamed when she noticed the flames, the only exit besides the window already blocked. She noticed the fire was growing quickly and helplessly held her hands out as a last attempt at blocking the flames. Much to her surprise, the fire had almost, reminded. Back to nothing. That was when Winona had realized that she and her daughter had powers. So Cochise, despite wanting a normal life, had accidentally married yet another manipulator, carrying on the family tradition. AND she had Molecular Reversion, the rarest to find. From that point onwards, he was aggressive, and no longer the loving man they had known. He forced his wife to act as if nothing had happened, and heavily punished Liseli anytime she had used her powers despite it being out of her control. His abuse went on until Liseli was 10. He'd gotten especially aggressive after an accidental slip and went to attack Liseli, but she panicked and threw a bowl at him as he charged her. And it exploded. He was livid, and went on the wildest rampage Winona and Liseli had ever seen. Calling Winona a lying w**re [since the Combustion had also come from her, even though she was supposedly human] and Liseli a mistake. After that night, he was never seen again. Gone, without a trace. And Winona blamed Liseli for everything. Her powers wouldn't have been discovered if Liseli hadn't been born. Then she could have kept her happy life and once loving husband. Winona started neglecting Liseli, spending all of her time searching online for a certain school she'd heard about a long time ago, where meta kids went. Once she found it, she sent in an application and immediately shipped Liseli off the second they accepted her. She was excited at first, loving the encouragement and kindness since she'dnever had that before. But then it was ripped from her, almost as if the curtain hiding the nastiness had finally opened. The deep sadness and anger came back, the cruelty dulling down any bit of happiness she'd gained.
Hey I just had a couple questions --- first, are the uniforms like what they wear all 100% of the time or just weekdays or just classes and how much customization/accessorizing are they allowed with it? And secondly does the school use like physical punishment like would the students get physically hurt at times?
also, how were her parents forcing her to use her blood manipulation powers around the house? i read the background first and had thought you were going for a telekinetic power but that sentence just threw me for a loop.
thanks for the feedback, I donโ€™t mind changing the range to something smaller, maybe 15 meters. And I could remove the part where she needs to shed or ingest her blood, but when writing it I though of the statement โ€˜an eye for an eyeโ€™, but Iโ€™d be open to removing it. And lastly, they used her blood manipulation around the house because Nora can manipulate blood in different ways, in that scenario, she used her blood to become kind of like hands to grab stuff and what not.
Name: Mirabelle Lovvits
Age: 17
Personality: It's a bit stereotypical for a girl such as herself, but Mirabelle's as sweet as bubblegum. Maybe her own power has leaked into her brain, but it seems like Mirabelle doesn't have a single mean bone in her body. She'll laugh at jokes that aren't all that funny, and or she'll keep her attention on the quietest person in the room to make sure they know she's listening. Always the first to hold open the door and the last to leave, it's no surprise most people enjoy Mirabelle's company, though she wasn't exempt from the ire of others.
"She's so sweet, it's nauseating. Can't she give up?"
Even though she always heard those comments, as those muttering them always said it in earshot, Mirabelle kept a smile on her face. If there was anyone who knew what it felt like to be unloved, it was Mirabelle Lovvits. So the very least she could do was make sure no one else felt the same.
Powers:
Rose Colored Glasses - Manifesting later in her life, Mirabelle's power is far more subtle than her fellow metahumans. In fact, it's concentrated solely in her eyes. Although she normally hides her gaze away behind a pair of pretty sunglasses, taking a peek under them reveals bright pink irises, in a rather peculiar heart shape. However, it's advised to not gaze directly into her eyes, as the following side-effects may occur.
- Sudden tightness in chest, followed by difficulty breathing.
- Blood rushing to the fact, also commonly referred to as blushing.
- Intense heartbeat.
- Inability to make rational decisions.
Take these side-effects to a doctor, and they'll diagnosis you with a little thing called a crush. But can you really get a crush on Mirabelle from her powers?!
Short answer, no. You can't fall in love with Mirabelle by looking in her eyes, but you might certainly feel that way in the moment. That's Mirabelle's power. Prolonged exposure to her eyes causes those who are gazing upon her to become infatuated with the young girl, whether she likes it or not. Although the effect wears off rather quickly, especially in the heat of a battle, it's a rather draining experience to constantly feel like you might be in love, only to get literally kicked back to your senses.
When under the influence of Mirabelle's power, those affected often refrain from hurting her due to the swell of confusing emotions. The longer one gazes into her eyes, the more infatuated they become. Prolonged exposure hasn't been studied, since Mirabelle is terrified of the idea, but one can expect their cognitive levels to decrease, making rational decisions a bit harder in the heat of the moment. Confusion seems to be the main benefit to this power.
Background:
Everyone loved Mirabelle Lovvits.
At least, that's what they all told her. Every time they shoved a camera in her face, or begged for just one more question, they always ended up saying the same thing.
"Everybody loves you Mirabelle, don't you forget!"
She didn't forget.
Born to Eleanor and Tracy Lovvits, Mirabelle couldn't have picked more attention-starved parents. Both had miserably failed in their respective acting careers. Tracy failed because he couldn't write a script for shit, while Eleanor was exposed as a metahuman when she was caught manipulating the emotions of a casting director to get a gig. With Tracy unable to write a single compelling story and Eleanor practically blacklisted, the Lovvits really only had one option when it came to fame and attention.
Thus, Mirabelle was born.
In hindsight, it's never a good idea to have a child solely to live vicariously through them, but what did you expect from the Lovvits?
From the moment she could smile, Mirabelle became the poster child for whatever the hell was needed. A new baby food company? Stick Mirabelle on it. A cute commercial about a dog that needs a kid? Shove her under the camera, she could do it. No commercial or advertisement was too small for Mirabelle, since she clearly needed to have a resume before she started working the big stuff.
Besides, she was the perfect actress. Whenever she started fussing or crying, a little talk with mom never failed to sort it out. Sure, her eyes looked a bit glazed over after and she definitely acted like a completely different kid, but at least she wasn't crying anymore! That was the worst part about working with kid actors, they just wouldn't stop crying.
By the time Mirabelle was turning thirteen, she was already pretty famous in her little world. Having landed a contract on a popular children's network, it wasn't long before the little starlet was the main character of her own show. Although the critics seemed to love her acting, everyone seemed to agree that she was a rather weird kid off set. Her mother was never far during interviews, and the short answers Mirabelle always gave often confused and angered those who watched. How could someone so bubbly on T.V be such a little bitch when it came to interviews? Did she think she was above them all?
Maybe she did. No one bothered to actually ask Mirabelle what she thought, since she was never the one actually speaking.
Although Eleanor couldn't act for shit, she knew how to use her own metahuman abilities. Pulling the strings of Mirabelle during interviews was like second nature to her, and it didn't long for Mirabelle to just give up. No one ever asked her the right questions. Looks of concern would be brushed aside for the sake of ratings. The more people that grew annoyed with her aloof persona, the more viewers that would tune in.
As she grew older and older and phased out of her pre-teen lead role, Mirabelle was pushed towards more serious acting jobs. Now that she was sixteen, she could do serious shit. Like Teen Wolf level serious. Obviously, her audition went perfectly, and soon Mirabelle was one of the leading cast members on the hottest new teen drama, Scarlet Academia. (If you're curious, yes, it is about vampires.)
But when filming began, everything slowly began to crumble away.
Scarlet Academia wasn't a Disney show. Everyone there was on their own unless they had connections. And unfortunately for Miss Mirabelle, no one really liked her. There were no hangouts with other cast members, no fun lunches or late night parties. The only time they wanted to see Mirabelle was when the camera was rolling, and even then it wasn't exactly a choice.
It's not like Mirabelle blamed them. She was fucking creepy when the cameras were off. The second she stepped away from the blinking lights, her mother was right besides her. Always tugging her emotions down. Hiding away happiness, and crushing sadness. Burning away anger and suffocating the loneliness until there was nothing left. Mirabelle Lovvits was becoming a shell, and Eleanor was just fine with that.
Unfortunately for Eleanor, it's a rather stupid thing to constantly put someone under that much metahuman force. All that stress and manipulation on the body is going to make something go wrong.
And something did go wrong.
On the final day of shooting for Scarlet Academia, Mirabelle woke up with about as much enthusiasm she could muster. (Spoiler, she had none.) Early in the morning was the only alone time Mirabelle ever got. Her mother often slept in late due the constant strain of using her power, which left Mirabelle with blissful moments of solitude. In those early morning hours, she often spent her time simply brushing her hair or doing her nails.
You know, actual normal teen shit.
Yet on this morning, Mirabelle wouldn't even lift her hairbrush. Instead, she found herself screaming at her own reflection in the mirror, causing fellow cast members to burst into her trailer. Inside, they found a sobbing Mirabelle covering her eyes and screaming that something was wrong with her. Admittedly, most of her fellow cast mates were nosy about the matter. They had never seen the poor girl this reactive, and their curiosity was peaked. It took the strongest member of the team to slowly peel her hands away from her eyes, though the gasps that rippled through the crowd moments later caused him to stumble away.
Mirabelle's previously brown irises were now bright pink, and horrifyingly, in the shape of a heart. As unnatural as it appeared, they just couldn't look away from her. Even as she screamed and shouted, they just blushed and stared at beautiful Mirabelle. Lovely, amazing, Mirabelle.
It's unclear what happened after that, as many of the cast members can't recall what occurred after they looked into her eyes. All they could remember was that one moment Mirabelle was there, and the next she was gone with her new pink eyes. Despite the pleas of her mother, not a single trace could be found of the rising star.
At least Scarlet Academia did well in ratings, even if it didn't have a finale.
" IN THE END WE ARE ALL JUST ROTTING FLESH. "
NAME: Gian Su-Yun.
AGE: Seventeen.
GENDER: Cis-female.
PERSONALITY: Exuding equal amounts of pity and fear from others, the brooding Gian is often referred to as a 'tortured soul'. Coupled with her doom-and-gloom attitude, it is easy to understand why not many warm up to the cynical and pessimistic teenager. A lack of physical and emotional support from others may account for this, and has left her extremely vulnerable to manipulation and coercion. Therefore, any ounce of affection or affirmation from others could lead her to complete morally-questionable acts to win their praises and support.
Envy and jealously course through her blood, often finding herself getting temperamental at others for seemingly unknown reasons. Trying to express these feelings are met with confusion and more anger - aimed towards herself - from a lack of social and emotional skills. The teenager does have a quick wit though and a morbid sense of humour that only an eclectic few would enjoy. Similarly to her mother, she is quite book-smart and a fast learner if given the opportunity.
A clichรฉ, but in the end, Gian wants nothing more than to be loved and accepted for who she is - if only she would admit that.
POWERS: Decay and disease manipulation.
Gian is able to create, control, interact and manipulate diseases in living organisms. This allows for her to control the organisms that spread diseases, including germs, bacteria, virus, or other pathogens on a cellular level, including bacteriophages, microorganisms (microscopic organisms), retroviruses, cells that abnormally grow to make cancerous tumours and cysts, and pathogens that produce genetic mutations. This is limited to touching/interacting with her rotted flesh (currently only her fingers).
In its current form or rather Gian's ability, it is mainly limited to causing damage through the use of diseases. However, if honed correctly, she could alleviate or even remove other organisms diseases.
A byproduct of her power has led to decay manipulation, which allows her to break down organic substances into their simpler forms of matters. This means allowing the beginning of decomposition, or rather increasing the rate of rotting, in another organism. This is strictly limited to organisms and cannot be used on material objects. Once again, if Gian's powers were honed correctly she could decrease, stop or even reverse the effect of rotting. Even further along, with proper training, she could control things/beings connected to decomposition such as vermin, worms, maggots or even corpses.
Her power's have many downsides. Mainly, she is unable to touch people with skin-to-skin contact where her flesh has rotted. Therefore, she opts to wear gloves at all times, which negates all effects (which in itself is a weakness). Unfortunately, this is extended to bodily fluids, which means her saliva could be lethal and is uncontrollable. For example, this means if she was to spit at someone, she is unable to control how this would affect the target. The other fatal flaw is that as Gian continues to use her powers and ages, the rot is slowly, yet surely, spreading throughout her body. What was once not visible has begun showing in her fingers that have started rotting and is spreading. It is unclear at this time what it means for Gian's livelihood without further studies.
BACKGROUND: Dr. Kam Su-Yun was seen as the saviour of the uncurable. A woman who dedicated herself to a life of medicine and science before recognising the power she wielded - healing and curing any known or unknown illness, while simultaneously being able to stop or revert the effects of decomposition. Once word spread of her abilities, Kam had lines of the once "uncurable" outside her door begging for her help. It was no surprise that the kind and empathetic woman established a clinic that provided free healing to those who needed it most.
Unfortunately for Kam, her selflessness and human greed led to tragedy. By providing free healing, Kam was absolutely decimating the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, which created enemies. Kam eventually became pregnant with her first child and was still in the first trimester when the attack happened. A man who feigned a disease managed to inject her with a concoction that was meant to eliminate her powers. Yet, it had no immediate effects.
However, the effects became apparent when she gave birth to her baby daughter, Gian Su-Yun. The injection had affected Gian in a way that left her with powers that essentially opposed her mother. Gian spent a majority of her childhood in isolation, under the supervision of her mother, who was determined to cured her daughter.
The doctor had met her match though, and the constant trial and error eventually led to Kam becoming terminally ill with some unknown illness that most likely originated from her own daughter unknowingly. Now bed-ridden and struggling to fight back against the unknown illness with her powers, she was convinced to let Gian attend Vochertepp indefinitely at the age of fourteen.
(will obviously expand upon everything in the full cs, but this is the general idea).
POWERS: Molecular Manipulation - An umbrella term for powers that affect objects at the molecular level. It has 8 sub-categories, though she is able to wield about half. Liseli's abilities are the result of a long line of Molecular Manipulators coming together to have children, who then find other hybrids under the same umbrella with a different specialization to have stronger children.
[/border][/border]}
{/slide}{slide=
}two{/slide}[/accordion][/border]
SPECIALIZATIONS:
โ˜† Molecular Acceleration- Molecular Acceleration is the ability to make molecules reverberate at a speed which causes them to become disordered, this causes the object to rapidly heat up. As a result of this heat, the power can cause a target to melt or ignite.
โ˜† Molecular Combustion- Molecular Combustion (usually referred to as blasting objects or blowing up objects) is the power to speed up molecules to the point of combustion, causing an explosion.
โ˜†Molecular Deceleration- Molecular Deceleration enables the user to seemingly slow down time, putting individuals or objects into slow motion.
โ˜†Molecular Reversion- Molecular Reversion is the ability to shift molecules back into their previous order and state. This can be used to revert transformed objects and beings back to their natural form.
Liseli is only able to use her Molecular Combustion and her Molecular Acceleration at this point in time. The school has been trying their hardest to push her to her limits and force all of her abilities to come forward for more than a second, but she'll often fall unconscious before the pressure requirement to fully unlock the other two. However, whenever she's alone, she'll make a game out of discovering creative ways to use the Acceleration and Combustion, just in case the others never show up. As of right now, her favorites are super charging a weapon of her choice to pack a more lethal hit, no matter what it is, or grabbing random objects that are around and charging them enough for them to explode, the force rising the bigger the object is [i.e. a pencil won't have nearly as much force as a notebook]. For example, if she grabs an apple and throws it, she can make the molecules move at just below the Combustion level so that instead of a minor bruise like normal, it can either knock the person completely back or set everything it touches on fire. OR, she could make the molecules move at insane speeds then throw it, giving it the explosion factor of a frag grenade.
two
two
WEAKNESSES:
ยค She is only able to manipulate objects she can physically touch with her hands, and it must be solid. She can not manipulate any sort of liquid or gas, unlike her mother. She also can't charge living things.
ยค If she tries to change an object that's too large, her hand will burn like hellfire before she passes out. The largest object she is able to charge as of right now is a bedside table. Do not ask how she knows, let's just say...she is without a roommate now. And they werent on good terms when she left.
ยค She must keep skin contact until the object is fully charged to the level she wants, meaning she often burns herself whenever she uses her powers since her skin didn't adapt to save her. So she always has band-aid covered blisters on her hands
ยค Using her powers require concentration. If she can't concentrate, then her powers weaken significantly.
Liseli Zaltana
PERSONALITY: If you asked 7 people how they'd describe Liseli, you'd get 7 different descriptions. This is because she mimics the personality of whoever she's around, due to her not really trusting or knowing her own personality. All of the important figures in her life had hated her when she was herself, so her final verdict was that she just wasn't a likable person and shouldn't be herself if she wanted to be at least minorly accepted and have friends. So she stopped. At 11 years old, she'd decided that she'd try her best to study her peers and form a personality from that. 6 years later, she's a professional now, and can't even remember what she herself was like.
BACKGROUND: Liseli's existence is a minorly sick joke, and her parents hadn't appreciated the humor. Let's explain. Liseli is the eldest daughter of Cochise and Winona Zaltana. Cochise is the last in a long line of people who purposefully chose other Molecular Manipulators for their children, arranged a marriage, then had them bare children for the chance of achieving a child that can control ALL of the sub-categories of their craft. Cochise hadn't wanted what they did. He wanted to meet someone naturally, fall in love, and live life. So he ran away, changing his name and appearance, then hid his powers. He eventually met a woman named Winona, a non meta-human, and got married, living a happy but quiet life. Until Liseli came out and got a little older. When the girl had gotten a little too angry at 4 and threw a doll that lit her room on fire. Winona had panicked and screamed when she noticed the flames, the only exit besides the window already blocked. She noticed the fire was growing quickly and helplessly held her hands out as a last attempt at blocking the flames. Much to her surprise, the fire had almost, reminded. Back to nothing. That was when Winona had realized that she and her daughter had powers. So Cochise, despite wanting a normal life, had accidentally married yet another manipulator, carrying on the family tradition. AND she had Molecular Reversion, the rarest to find. From that point onwards, he was aggressive, and no longer the loving man they had known. He forced his wife to act as if nothing had happened, and heavily punished Liseli anytime she had used her powers despite it being out of her control. His abuse went on until Liseli was 10. He'd gotten especially aggressive after an accidental slip and went to attack Liseli, but she panicked and threw a bowl at him as he charged her. And it exploded. He was livid, and went on the wildest rampage Winona and Liseli had ever seen. Calling Winona a lying w**re [since the Combustion had also come from her, even though she was supposedly human] and Liseli a mistake. After that night, he was never seen again. Gone, without a trace. And Winona blamed Liseli for everything. Her powers wouldn't have been discovered if Liseli hadn't been born. Then she could have kept her happy life and once loving husband. Winona started neglecting Liseli, spending all of her time searching online for a certain school she'd heard about a long time ago, where meta kids went. Once she found it, she sent in an application and immediately shipped Liseli off the second they accepted her. She was excited at first, loving the encouragement and kindness since she'dnever had that before. But then it was ripped from her, almost as if the curtain hiding the nastiness had finally opened. The deep sadness and anger came back, the cruelty dulling down any bit of happiness she'd gained.
hi, unfortunately i am going to fully reject this character concept. molecular manipulation is just not something i'd allow as it is much too overpowered and there are quite a few issues with her backstory and personality, i feel it does not suit the roleplay very well. thank you for applying.
Hey I just had a couple questions --- first, are the uniforms like what they wear all 100% of the time or just weekdays or just classes and how much customization/accessorizing are they allowed with it? And secondly does the school use like physical punishment like would the students get physically hurt at times?
during school hours/class time the uniform is required, you can wear jewelry but nothing too bulky or crazy, basically like a pretty strict private school, you can't modify it too much but you can find little ways to make it your own that hopefully no one notices. when you're not in class, you can wear whatever you like.
yes, the school may eventually use physical punishment on the children. this is not known at first and some people might not ever get to this point if they are well-behaved from start to finish. if you're making trouble, you may get to this point, but it takes months.
thanks for the feedback, I donโ€™t mind changing the range to something smaller, maybe 15 meters. And I could remove the part where she needs to shed or ingest her blood, but when writing it I though of the statement โ€˜an eye for an eyeโ€™, but Iโ€™d be open to removing it. And lastly, they used her blood manipulation around the house because Nora can manipulate blood in different ways, in that scenario, she used her blood to become kind of like hands to grab stuff and what not.
i feel like blood manipulation is not quite the right concept for what you're trying to get at here. i am going to deny this concept for now because i feel it is not very well rounded and doesn't suit the type of game i'm trying to run. thank you for applying, i hope you find the right spot for this character elsewhere.
Artemis Mercier
ยท age
17
ยท personality
Artemis is a very broody kind of person. He's fairly quiet, often stewing in his own thoughts when he has an opinion, rather than be outspoken. Still, his emotions are often evident on his face, and he has a tendency to be passive-aggressive and sarcastic. As someone who kind of hangs around in the background, he's an excellent observer, and is often aware of things that most people don't intend on him being aware of. When asked for his opinion or thoughts, he won't sugarcoat things, but it's rare that he will give his opinion without being asked. Artemis has a tendency to be quite self-destructive - he struggles to take care of himself, and he certainly doesn't let other people take care of him.
ยท powers
Artemis has the ability to manipulate gaseous substances. Air, any poison gas - any gaseous state of matter, he is able to manipulate its particles in order to move it in a certain direction or to move it away from somewhere. Of course, he can only manpiulate a certain, small amount of gas particles at one time, so he would never be able to manipulate all the oxygen in a city or anything like that. As an example, his powers can be used to manipulate or cause wind, and to manipulate and posionous gaseous substances. In controlling gas, he needs only move his hands in order to manipulate the particles and direct them in whatever way he needs to. When using his powers, the longer he uses them or the more gas he manipulates and the stronger force with which he manipulates them, starts to affect the flow of oxygen to his brain, making him light-headed and, in some cases, prone to fainting.
ยท background
Artemis was born into a very, very religious and conservative household. He has five siblings - two older, and three younger, his parents having a total of six children. His father was not a metahuman, however, his mother was, and she has the ability to control emotion. Artemis grew up, for the most part, believing every word of his parents' and the church, and it was only in his teen years that he started to question both his belief and sexuality. However, he also knew that his mother could sense and control his emotions, as she did when he was younger. One weakness of her power is that those that she controls are aware that their emotions are being manipulated. So Artemis mastered the ability to hide his feelings; to mask his emotions expertly, around his family at least. As he grew older, he became very close with his older brother, Louis; they were practically best friends from when Artemis was 10 onwards, and Louis, who was born without any powers, was integral in helping Artemis to gain control over his powers.
Artemis' older brother was much more interested in Artemis' powers than he was. But because they were so close, Artemis continued to work with his brother on his powers. His mother also encouraged the practicing and training of Artemis' powers, being the metahuman parent, As he grew older, unsurprisingly, so did his brother, who announced at 19 (Artemis had recently turned 16) that he would be moving out and travelling far away.
Artemis was heartbroken - this was his best friend, and he was going to be gone for the foreseeable future. Artemis felt betrayed and abandoned, and so he and Louis argued, and Artemis said many things that he would later regret. A few weeks later, shortly after moving out, Louis was killed in a car accident. Artemis, distraught and destructive when he found out, involuntarily manipulated enough air around their home that the force of it moving towards him broke multiple windows, forming a small tornado around him. This was the only incident of Artemis being able to manipulate gas to this extent, and he fainted immediately afterward. Artemis stopped using his powers for months, much to the dismay of his parents who were unhappy for his 'talents' to be wasted. However, his mother was also hesitant to use her powers against him, now having seen how dangerous his own powers could become,
Artemis started to care less about what his parents had to say or what they thought of him, and he begun to sneak out of home at night. He developed, very quickly, an addiction to alcohol, which made itself known to his parents shortly after his 17th birthday, when he was caught with his collection of alcohol in his room. It was his parents choice to send him to Vocherteppโ€™s School for the Enhanced, both in an attempt to force him to use his powers again, and so that they wouldn't have to deal with him while he was clearly self-destructive.
He's been at the school for a couple of months now, fully aware of the abuse that takes place. Used to hiding his emotions from his parents, he is able to cope with the abuse at least a little bit. Despite their gaslighting and verbal abuse, he is still pretty unwilling to commit to using or trying to use his powers, making him something of a problematic student.
super cool start here. power and personality look good to me so far, there's something im getting a little caught up in the backstory lore wise.
the only thing not quite right is that an injection would not be able to give gian her powers, or rather, give gian those opposing powers. instead, what you might say is that the injection twisted her powers, which may have theoretically started as something lovely and healing-y but then she came out a force of decay and rotted flesh. it would be less so that the injection turned her powers into an opposite, but rather corrupted them.
also a few questions - was gian born with the rotted fingertips? did it come from the use of her powers that corroded her flesh as time went on/she grew up? just some food for thought for you.
(also like a small thing but why is it Kam's selfish and human greed that got her tragedy? i thought she was like a super awesome metahuman doctor? did you mean to say that it was the greed/selfishness of others?)
i feel like blood manipulation is not quite the right concept for what you're trying to get at here. i am going to deny this concept for now because i feel it is not very well rounded and doesn't suit the type of game i'm trying to run. thank you for applying, i hope you find the right spot for this character elsewhere.
Hey! sorry you didn't like the oc. Could I apply again with a different concept/oc since I did have another one that I wanted to use here?
round 2, we're tryin this again-
Name: Shoko Sasaki
Age: 16
xQQ9dM33ZEnCVGNuBBH1Tjs_fJBhxxMRr6jWBB3ggMSmUgamQqXKc3V2sJszUU2MeGkno9SwcLdHwJwSG-s0CfjgKkiUKCXIPj8UXmtTdp8H3WhIkEJT19Ic6NW0_RbMvM2Lvc6E
Personality: Shoko is more on the quiet reserved side, not wanting to draw much attention to herself in any situation. But when you actually get to know her, sheโ€™s a very kind but sarcastic person. This is most likely due to being raised in such a noisy and high-energy household, she could never match her familyโ€™s energy so she stopped trying. Although reserved, Shoko is very gifted in academics and combat. She grew up in a household full of boys, so had to develop a sort of mental and physical toughness, so itโ€™s very hard to get her to crack or cry per se. Unfortunately, Shoko isnโ€™t gifted in making friends due to her quiet nature, but in her childhood, she never needed to make friends since she had her brothers to keep her entertained.
Powers: In simple terms, Shoko has telepathy, with an extra ability. Shoko has the ability to talk to people through their minds. She can also mind link with multiple people at once, right now she can talk to up to 3 people in a 15m radius around her at a time, but the amount of people and range can increase through practice. She can also enter a personโ€™s mind, without them knowing, and read their thoughts, but she can only do this to one person at a time and she gets knocked out/passes out while sheโ€™s reading their thoughts. But there are drawbacks to this power. If she uses the abilities for too long or has too many people linked to her at once, a loud static plays in her head. But if she persists, and still uses her power while the static plays in her head, it gets so loud that she could scream for it to stop.
Background: Shoko was the youngest daughter in an all-boys family. Her mother had died while giving birth to Shoko. So her father was left to care for her and her 4 other brothers, which was difficult but he was able to do it well. She found out she had powers when she was very young. And once her family knew, they celebrated. Thatโ€™s mostly because her entire family were metahumans, granted theyโ€™re powers helped more in combat so they couldnโ€™t really help train her power but they celebrated nonetheless. They all went to the same school so Shoko and her brothers were really tight knit. Shoko lived a pretty normal life, that was until she received the letter, asking her to attend Vochertepp, she was 11 at the time. Her family was ecstatic to say the least, her brothers were raving about how good the school was and encouraged Shoko to go and accept the invitation. So she accepted and headed off to Vochertepp. She was nervous to be somewhere without her family but since her brothers told her how good the school was, she had high hopes. At first, Shoko thought the school was great, they had amazing classes and it was cool seeing other metahumans aside from her brothers. But soon the veil was ripped away and she saw what the school really was. It was an institution that put a lot of pressure on these kids. She had the hopes of showing her brothers how much she had improved, but she had a feeling she never will.
Name: Wesley โ€œWesโ€ Campbell
Age: 17
Personality:
Wes Campbell is a boy who captures the duality of both youthfulness and maturity in his personality, acting too young for his age at times, and far too old at others. When in the company of other students, Wes comes off as friendly and laid-back. He's generous, and no one has to ask twice when they request something of him. Wes has been at Vochertepp long enough to know that the school and its staff canโ€™t be trusted. Heโ€™s protective, and heโ€™s put himself into the habit of looking out for other students as much as he can. As a bottom line, he always tries his best for others, no matter the expense.
He keeps his baggage to himself, causing him to internalize his grief and anxiety. He's spent a large part of his life having to grow up fast and deal with the pain of losing a loved one, and he's gotten into the habit of pushing away his emotions rather than learning how to deal with them.
Powers:
Wesley has the power of electricity manipulation. He can absorb electricity from nearby sources and harness that electrical power. Although this ability would grow with proper practice and training, heโ€™s currently only able to draw on sources within about twenty feet, and only at a limited capacity. In terms of physical manifestation, he can produce moderate shocks through skin contact. He can manipulate electrical power and devices with intense focus, although using touch is much easier for him. Heโ€™s a favorite among students for being able to quickly charge phones or make peopleโ€™s hair stand up to mess with them. His powers also enhance with weather changes, and stormy days make for much more effective abilities. Finding ways of using conductors is also incredibly useful.
One major weakness Wes has is water. If he is wet and uses his shocking powers, he will not be able to control himself. His power will end up backfiring, and he would instead be shocking himself. If someone else happens to be wet, their shock will be much more intense and quite harmful, whether or not he means it to be. He also currently has a source distance limit of twenty feet, which means that heโ€™d be completely useless if he were in the middle of nowhere. Since heโ€™s not exactly a master of his power, he has a habit of using it involuntarily. Heโ€™s had plenty of instances in which heโ€™s burned out light bulbs or blew nearby fuses on accident due to a scare or intense emotion.
Background:
Wesley Campbell was raised by his mother on the coast of northern Oregon. His mother was a non-metahuman, and Wesley gained his metahuman lineage from his fatherโ€™s side. While his father was absent since his birth, Wes and his mother were inseparable. When Wesley turned ten, his motherโ€™s health began to decline. Wes devoted every spare moment he had to taking care of her, but three years later, she passed away.
Up until that point, Wes had never shown any aptitude for having powers, and since his mother wasnโ€™t aware of his fatherโ€™s abilities, no one knew that Wes was a metahuman at all. When his mother died, he tried to revive her. At that moment, he produced an electric shock that wouldโ€™ve been similar to an AED. Although his actions proved to be futile, he then knew the powers that he possessed. The letter came immediately after. Rather than placing him in foster care, social workers opted to send him to the school.
When Wes arrived at Vochertepp, he was wary, but he was also weighed down by grief and desperate for somewhere to belong. Heโ€™s never had trouble making friends, so he was quickly able to find students to bond with. As four years went by, he became very familiar with the darkness and malpractice of the school, and what couldโ€™ve been a home proved to be more akin to a prison. Wes rarely steps out of line or engages in rebellion, but heโ€™s well aware that the school is the enemy.
Tear! Him! Apart! Especially the power part!
hi there, i just want to make sure you're aware the rp is 18+ as i did see in another ooc that you might not be? we're exploring dark themes and i just gotta stick to my word there if so </3 i really appreciate the interest though
hi, unfortunately i am going to fully reject this character concept. molecular manipulation is just not something i'd allow as it is much too overpowered and there are quite a few issues with her backstory and personality, i feel it does not suit the roleplay very well. thank you for applying.
during school hours/class time the uniform is required, you can wear jewelry but nothing too bulky or crazy, basically like a pretty strict private school, you can't modify it too much but you can find little ways to make it your own that hopefully no one notices. when you're not in class, you can wear whatever you like.
yes, the school may eventually use physical punishment on the children. this is not known at first and some people might not ever get to this point if they are well-behaved from start to finish. if you're making trouble, you may get to this point, but it takes months.
i feel like blood manipulation is not quite the right concept for what you're trying to get at here. i am going to deny this concept for now because i feel it is not very well rounded and doesn't suit the type of game i'm trying to run. thank you for applying, i hope you find the right spot for this character elsewhere.
hi, unfortunately i am going to deny this concept. this power is greatly overpowered with very little limitations, and i feel it does not suit the character or backstory you've set up. thank you for applying.
ahhh thank you! yeah sorry just a bit of silly wording because that is what I was implying that her powers were going to mirror her mother's but the injection seemingly twisted it!! you worded it perfectly! same goes for the "human greed" was meant to imply the pharma's greed but I can see how it would imply otherwise!
she was born "perfectly normal" but as she grew her powers were used with basically no input from her - if we want to be super scientific i'm sure there was something inwardly biological off the charts but didn't warrant concern when she was born? it begun with her saliva (cause y'know babies slobbering everywhere) which led to small issues with her mother but since she was powered her body could simply overcome it originally. then kids in daycare getting sick and well eventually her mother connected the dots and the rot had begun. at 17 it isn't just her fingertips anymore, it has spread almost to her knuckles.
Hey, I saw somebody else went with the whole "powers forced out of them schnizz" and I just wanted to comment that I too will be going for that. If there is any problems with that please say it now. This is also a placeholder.
Hello! I have kind of a fun concept for a character, hope you like it!
Name: Remy Chandler
Age: 17
Personality: Remy is grumpy, standoffish and volatile, but it's largely due to the fact he is in constant pain that ranges from manageable to crippling on any given day and can change very suddenly without warning. (This is a side effect of his power) He hates his life and wonders why he had to be born the way he was. That said, what few friends he manages to make and keep, he loves dearly and would do absolutely anything for them.
Powers: His power is a doozy, but not in a way that makes him op (I hope). Basically, he has the ability to take others pain away. Sort of a walking anesthetic. The hard part is he has little to no control over it, and the only limit to what pain he can take seems to be the amount of pain his own body can physically handle itself before shutting down. For example, if someone were to be tortured with him in proximity, while their bodies would take the physical damage, he would be the one that would feel it.
Background: His mother is his only family and she absolutely adores him. It's from her love and concern for him that she sent him off at the age of only 7 to live at the school, hoping to protect him. He doesn't tell her his control hasn't improved too much in ten years, or about the horrible place she sent him. She's the one thing in the world he stays alive for after all because he loves her dearly.
