- Part I: MegaMetro Geography
-
MegaMetro. The city of superhumans. Ever since the first hero walked the streets, it has always been a place of action!
(Note that this is heavily inspired by NYC.)
The entire story takes place in MegaMetro. It's placed on the Bloxy Ocean which surrounds the entire continent. MegaMetro consists of two islands and a piece of the mainland. The first island, called Abingdon Island is a bit like a fat L, but curved out and roughed up a bit. The other, called Lambourn Island is more like a 0, but once again it's organic. The bottom part of the 0 is inside of the L. The mainland area is basically part of a peninsula. Abingdon Island and Lambourn Island are cut apart by the Sorymo River.
They are connected by the following bridges:
Builder's Bridge: This bridge is dedicated to the people who first started the town back in the 1700's. There are plaques in the bridge that dedicate the bridge to the people who first built it. It was created for MegaMetro's 200th anniversary and is completely made out of steel and iron. This is the main bridge that connects Abingdon Island to Lambourn Island.
Remaro Bridge: This bridge is the most popular bridge for people to get from the two islands. Because of its frequent usage, traffic is often backed for the entire bridge from 3 to 6 PM. The bridge is named after Robert Remaro who was the 22nd mayor. He started MegaMetro's transition from a small city to a massive urban center. During his time as mayor, he built 37 skyscrapers and had 83 in plan to be made during his time. 23 out of the 83 skyscrapers have been built ever since. This bridge is made out of iron and steel.
56th Street Crossover: A small bridge that is made out of stone. This is the only bridge that connects both islands that are not a part of a highway. This connects 56th Street to Cortlandt Street.
MegaMetro Expressway: This expressway contains three bridges that connect all three parts in MegaMetro. The cars move an average of 75 miles per hour. This expressway is 23 miles long and connects every single district to each other.
The mainland is connected to Abingdon Island by these bridges:
MegaMetro Expressway: Read the explanation above.
Gurke's Bridge: The oldest bridge in MegaMetro. It is made out of mostly stone and metals. This is the only drawbridge in MegaMetro as the other ones have been upgraded. Dedicated to Aaron Gurke, the first mayor. This dedication is a plaque on both ends of the bridge. There is a statue near the bridge which was made for the 200th anniversary that is made out of copper.
Veranar Bridge: The most recent and the smallest of the bridges. It is made out of stone and steel. This bridge is the least maintained bridge in the entirety of MegaMetro. Thus, the civilians have given names to it due to it being neglected like: "The Abandoned Bridge", "The Bridge Stuck in Time" or "The Forgotten Bridge".
The mainland is connected to Lambourn Island by these bridges:
MegaMetro Expressway: Read the explanation in the two island connections.
Knight's Crossing: A decently-sized bridge. The bridge represents a bridge made back in medieval times and is made out of complete stone with only a stone border preventing the cars from falling off. There are arches under the bridge that keeps it held up.
Hero's Bridge: Traditionally used for victory celebrations after a hero defeats a major villain, also a normal bridge. The bridge is made out of complete steel along with iron and glows every night. It also has hidden fireworks inside it which shoot up whenever a villain is defeated. Also known as Celebration Bridge to residents.
The L is called Abingdon, the 0 is called Lambourn, and the mainland is called Tarporley.
Here's a summary of each area:
Abingdon- the center of MegaMetro. (Kinda like Manhattan.)
Popular Buildings:
- Mayor's Hall: Located in South Abingdon, close to the Mayor Mansion and Central Finance, it is a place where new laws are officially accepted, and is the Mayor's office.
- City Hall: Located in Middle Abingdon, it is where laws are initially proposed. The houses of the mayor are there along with the court.
- Central Finance Building: The center of the world's trade stocks. This massive and important building is 120 floors tall and manages all of the stocks of MegaMetro and Heroica. Because of this, it's the most defended building in the city.
- Breakaway Beach: This long beach that stretches the coastline of the island. It is located just south of the Mayor's Hall, it is an attraction for the local. Because of this, not many tourists come there.
- Thorpton Park: A quite big tourist park, it is in Middle Abingdon. Named after the Thorpton Building nearby which is a high-rise building that is 27 floors tall.
- Abb Amusement Park: A huge tourist attraction, one of the most known and best amusement parks in the world, named after Mega Metro inventor Charles Abb.
- Monument of Valor: A golden statue that depicts a hero standing upon the body of a defeated villain in chains. Located just west of the City Hall.
- Abingdon Docks: Docks located in West Abingdon, on the outside corner of the L. Cruise ships and coastal cruises come here. The mini coastal cruises are a huge tourist trap, and the cruises are for both tourists and locals. Only these tourist ships come here.
- Palomar Plazza: A commercial area located in South Abingdon. Many restaurants and shopping stores are located here. The Plazza is set up in the style of a road, except there are no cars; you simply have to walk. It is a fairly new location, being developed in the late 1990s.
- MegaMetro Opera House: A theater located in Middle Abingdon. The theater dates back to the late 1800s, and still runs to this day. It is a large, fancy theater with several theaters within it. All kinds of art performances occur here, with opera performances the most.
Districts:
South Abingdon: fancy buildings, skyscrapers, etc. Very high-class. Location of Central Finance. One of the world's richest areas to live and also where the majority of MegaMetro have their jobs at.
Middle Abingdon: The City Hall, Monument of Valor. A huge tourist area. Dotted by high-quality hotels and tourist attractions. This is also where the MegaMetro International Airport is.
East Abingdon: Lower class. An area of poor people/slums. Along the coast. Most crime located here is petty and no actual violence is done here although very common in this zone.
North Abingdon: Also rather lower class. More dangerous than East Abingdon. Villains are generally located here. This area has been designated as a high crime zone.
West Abingdon: Fancy, pretty. A very nice area. Most locals living in this area are rich and manage the zone. Although villains from the north side are slowly endangering the area. Most locals have superpowers though.
Lambourn- the more isolated part of MegaMetro. (Kinda like Brooklyn/Queens, but different. :3)
Popular Buildings:
Terama Park- Fancy park, bigger than Mega Park
- Monument of Honor: A monument to all dead heroes, shows a single hero surrounded by four villains. Located in the Forest of Hope Cemetery where superheroes are buried once they die. Funerals of famous superheroes and locals of MegaMetro were done here.
- MegaMetro Hospital: Main hospital of MegaMetro for people who have been hurt by heroes/villains. Known for its long waiting times but quality healthcare. The death rate is 4% despite the long waiting times.
- MegaMetro University for Non-Powers: The main college where normal people go to, it is in West Lambourn, along with the water. Known as one of the most prestigious colleges in all of Heroica.
- Sorymo River Park: A very small river park, families often go there to enjoy their day. Not as popular as Terama or Thorpton Park, but the people who know this park are very defensive of this park being the best park in MegaMetro.
- Ironsteel Foundry: A massive factory that produces a great deal of steel. The Foundry is owned by Ironsteel Corporation, a mining company located just outside of MegaMetro. The steel is often sold to construction companies in MegaMetro. The steel is also exported to different parts of Heroica.
- Lambourn Piers: Similar to the Abingdon Docks, but it serves a completely different purpose. The Piers are used for industrial import and export. Companies such as Ironsteel Corporation use the Piers to export their goods. Goods are also imported from companies outside of MegaMetro. Common goods include coal, steel, food, and more.
- Abb Stadium: MegaMetro has its own football team, called the MegaMetro Defenders. They play at Abb Stadium. Charles Abb, MegaMetro inventor (who died decades ago, and also created Abb Amusement Park), bought the MegaMetro Defenders when he was 32 years old. He named the stadium after himself. The stadium is now owned by the Abb Foundation, the same organization that owns Abb Amusement Park. Abb's grandson heads the Foundation.
- Metrona Bank: The largest bank in MegaMetro, located in Middle Lambourn. Most citizens invest in the Metrona Bank. In addition, government officials, including the mayor, do too. It is heavily guarded, just like Central Finance.
Districts:
South Lambourn: Nice area, lots of trees/families. Terama Park and the Monument of Honor located here. This is one of the richer parts of MegaMetro as the real estate has been on the rise in this area for the past decade.
West Lambourn: Also a rather nice area. On the waterfront. Nice grassy areas. This is also the location of MegaMetro Hospital. Despite this, it is not as rich or as populated as South Lambourn.
East Lambourn: A shifty area. Lots of poor people who don't have the money to live in the city. Warehouses/factories. Often polluted unlike the rest of MegaMetro. It is extremely industrial, and many industries operate here.
North Lambourn: Middle class. An average neighborhood. It is very industrial, just like East Lambourn.
Middle Lambourn: A blend of the other 4. More civilized around the edges, but in the center/east, it's less nice.
Tarporley- the most distant part of MegaMetro. Mainly government-owned.
Popular Buildings:
- Monument of Glory: A monument to the heroes who still fight today, shows a hero and villain locked in fierce combat.
- MegaMetro Military Base: A military base in MegaMetro. Holds 75,000 active personnel and 2500 armored vehicles. This is the only base within MegaMetro.
- MegaMetro Police Department: The world's largest police force is mainly stationed here. The MMPD is home to 50,000 officers who are trained to deal with normal crime and some super-crime. They are more disciplined than other police forces anywhere on Oberon.
- MegaMetro Department of Research: The leading facility in research for hero and villain powers. This is the workforce for 1,000 scientists who are specially trained to discover new powers.
- MegaMetro Anti-Villain Police Department: A police department dedicated to stopping villains. Due to the sheer power of the force, it is very rarely deployed. The department uses experimental gear, which has gathered controversy within the locals, mainstream media and even heroes and villains themselves.
- MegaMetro Villain Correctional Center: This place holds captured villains. The Correctional Facility does not believe in the death sentence being the main way to teach villains of what they did as well as the politicians running MegaMetro right now. They attempt to educate villains about their actions and how they impact MegaMetro's society. Villains have busted out of the correctional center before, however. This is also the normal jail for regular criminals too.
- MegaMetro School for Superheroes: A school where training heroes go to learn their powers, it is in North Tarporley and government-owned. The place is not open to the public. It is only open to people who have been suspected of having a superpower.
- Beatt Park: A medium-sized garden-park for upper-class people, fancy restaurants, and beautiful gardens are here, it's in South Tarporley, named after MegaMetro born florist, Botts Beatt.
- MegaMetro Fire Department: Located right next to the MMPD, the MMFD, obviously, is dedicated to stopping fires in the city. Most fires occur in the industrial areas. Firefighters are trained to tackle fires of all sizes. In addition, they are also trained to prevent arson. Firefighters learn how to stop arsonists, and stop arson.
- Tarporley Port: A port used only by the government and other Heroica governments. This port is located in the property of the Military Base. 50 soldiers are deployed to guard the Port, and conceal it from the outer world. Government ships come to and leave from the Port, often for diplomatic missions, or government officials coming to visit MegaMetro.
- Kinarra Park: The home of MegaMetro's baseball team, the MegaMetro Eagles. It is located in South Tarporley. The stadium is fairly new, as the MegaMetro Eagles moved from another Heroica city. It is owned by Kinarra Comics, a comic company.
Districts:
South Tarporley: The nicest area. Middle/upper class. Holds the Monument of Glory. This is where most people live in Tarporley.
West Tarporley: Not very nice. Seedy area, home to several villain gangs that have escaped MegaMetro Villain Correctional Center. Known as the worst place to live in MegaMetro due to the high amount of crime here.
East Tarporley: Also not very nice. MegaMetro Military Base and MegaMetro Police Department are here. Home to more villain gangs. This is the most enforced part of MegaMetro and people who walk the streets of this district are often protected by patrolling guards.
Middle Tarporley: Decent. The government has put money into this area, so it's rather nice. Still, not many people live here. Mainly a barrier between the gangs and the most sensitive research areas. This is one of the many areas that are currently under development and by the time this project is done, it will probably hold up to 40,000 people.
North Tarporley: Completely government-owned. Holds MegaMetro Department of Research and MegaMetro Anti-Villain Department. This place is not listed in maps for this reason. - Part II: Politics, Climate, & Greater Map
-
Politics
MegaMetro is at the edge of Heroica, a large America-esque nation. It is shaped a bit like a potato, and MegaMetro is at the northeastern tip, on a jutting out peninsula.
Heroica has a president, just like America, but that's where the similarities end. The president has no term limit, serves 5-year terms, and has a Council, which is voted for by the people. The Council consists of 15 advisors, each for a certain topic. It is the mouth of the next tier of government, the Upper House. The politicians are properly trained in politics to avoid a person who has no political background to represent a major spot in any of the Federal Government.
The Upper House is a group of 500 Advisorates, who gather to make decisions that will affect Heroica. These Advisorates can propose laws to the President to sign, and the President can propose laws for the Advisorates to vote on. If the President vetoes an Upper House law, then a 60% majority can override the veto. If the Upper House vetoes a presidential law, the Council can override the veto with a 60% majority. The Advisorates are voted for by the people.
Beneath the Upper House is the Lower House. It consists of the 500 Advisorans, who are lower-power versions of the Advisorates. They can propose laws to the Upper House, and if the law is vetoed, they need a 75% majority to override the veto and present directly to the president. If the law is approved, the Advisorans then present it to the president. The Advisorians are chosen to represent the state of the country, by way of a census. There are portions of each political party, each demographic, and so forth. They are considered the voice of the people.
The country's court system hinges on the highest court, the Judiciary. Much like the American Supreme Court, lower courts will have the most controversial cases passed up to here. There are eleven Judicians, who are selected from all ends of the political spectrum, so as to keep things fair.
The Judicians are selected by the highest word of law in the country, the Korpalos. The Korpalos is a very closed-off inner circle, of the most intelligent people in the country. The admissions process, the exact number of members, and most of the data on it is kept top secret.
Heroica is divided up into 72 provinces, which have their own systems of government. MegaMetro is contained within the New Blox Province and is the capital.
Climate & Greater Map
MegaMetro is in an area that is sort of like New England-rocky soil, colder winters, and trading, fishing, and whaling are the main industries. There is an entire area of about 10-15 provinces that are like this, along with the north coast. They are called the Noromanas Provinces. There is one exception-the province of Jastara, which is on a very far north island. It is extremely cold and not many people live all the way up there. Besides that one province, Noromanas Provinces have a high population density.
The middle of Heroica is grouped into the Teratari Provinces, where the soil is relatively rich. Farming is a decent industry here, as is ranching. 30-40 provinces. Rather populous, but not as much as Noromanas. There are many large factories in this area.
The remaining southern area is known as the Seconan Provinces. These are larger and have a low population density. The soil is rich, and the growing season is long, so there are lots of cash crops being planted.
Heroica is on its own continent, and there are only a couple more continents on the planet. The planet is called Oberon. It orbits the sun, and there's a moon. There are some other planets, but there isn't any real interest in space travel yet so nobody's been off of Oberon. - Part III: Greater History of Yukkino, Oberon, & Heroica
-
Note beforehand that much of this is inspired by REAL SCIENCE!
Scientists have deduced, from fossil discoveries, radioactive half-lives, and more, the history of the universe.
Their universe follows a real-life theory, the "oscillating universe theory," which states that there are Big Bangs and Big Crunches and that the current state of the universe is in the middle of those. They call their universe Yukkino, after an ancient sky goddess. Yukkino was formed by the Great Explosion, which sent superheated matter in all directions. Oberon formed from a massive chunk of rock. Much like the Earth, the cooling lava on its surface released gases, which caused the gradual formation of oceans and a rudimentary atmosphere. In these oceans, prokaryotes existed, a type of bacteria that can survive even the harshest conditions and use photosynthesis to produce food. The oxygen released from their photosynthesis created the first oxygen, which soon formed an atmosphere. Before long, oxygen-dependent life roamed Oberon, which was split into many continents. Humans evolved from apes, much as they did on the Earth. There are basically the same animals.
However, this is where the timeline diverges. Seeing as there were many broken-up continents, early humans were quite isolated. The ones that evolved were never in direct competition, as they were too far apart. Slowly, many different intelligent species evolved, each with their own adaptations that made them ideal for taking control of Oberon. Yet when a supervirus, known as the Withering due to the flesh decay it caused, spread across the world, all but a few were eradicated. These few were the Hominus, the Trasans, and the Soderani. Of these three, all shared tool usage, basic habitats, and teamwork. Hominus reached spoken language first, while the Soderani became adept in written language. Trasans evolved neither, and soon "dropped out" of the evolutionary race. The Hominus and Soderani soon created their own languages, but it was the Hominus who won, through an unexpected factor. The Hominus gained "extravolution," meaning that some members of the species developed mysterious mutations, resulting in strange powers. These "extravolutions" are believed to be the root of modern-day superpowers. The Soderani still exist but have devolved into little more than apes.
Meanwhile, the Hominus continued to evolve, until creating the first civilizations. The very first is believed to be the Ghanar, a group of twelve tribes who came together and developed a common language, known as the Proto-Linguaran. The Ghanar were nomads, who lived in primitive huts. They herded yaks and wove their clothing from their fur. The Ghanar moved across the land, killing enemy Hominus and eating all the grass with their yaks. They were the discoverers of fire but didn't contribute much to civilization otherwise. The real innovation came when a boy named Tengu discovered the properties of yak dung as fertilizer. When he grew into a man, he persuaded members of the Ghanar to follow him and adapt a new lifestyle. They created a nation called Yaramas, which practiced agriculture. Because they had settled down, they soon began to create stone tools, which they used to mine into the earth and discover bronze. The Yaramasians also quarried stone to build small houses, which were the first real structures. Tengu was their leader, and his children were the next rulers, effectively establishing a monarchy.
The Yaramasians were attacked by the next civilization, Qiana. Qiana had advanced beyond Yaramas's standards. With iron tools and the first boats, they soon explored the world. There were three continents at the time: Aroni, Jastaran, and Rinan, which were very close together. Qiana was located on Jastaran. Qiana conquered Yaramas easily. Meanwhile, the civilization of Uulon developed on Aroni, and Kormanor became the primary country in Rinan. The three clashed in many great wars but were locked in an eternal struggle. However, a period known as the Enlightenment occurred, when religious leaders traveled between the three, preaching peace. A partial peace was achieved, but a revolution occurred in Uulon, overthrowing the leaders and causing the wars to reopen. The new leadership of Uulon was ineffective, and they were conquered. However, Kormanor and Qiana were still fighting. But when the Second Age of Power came around, there were many superhumans on the side of Kormanor, or Divine Envoys, as they were known. Kormanor defeated Qiana and became the only country. Yet there were many anti-Kormanor sentiments, as about 2/3s of the population were from different countries. A revolution occurred, and the country of Heroica was established. (Quick technology update: This was about the tech level of the 1700s.) Heroica and Kormanor clashed in more battles, but soon there was a peaceful compromise reached. Yet an economic collapse in Kormanor led Heroica to become the dominant country in the world.
ENTER THE PRESENT DAY! - Part IV: History & Development of MegaMetro
-
MegaMetro's been through countless changes over the last couple centuries. The city was initially built in 1745, and in 2045, it will reach its 300th anniversary! The city was built by several builders from the collapsing nation of Kormanor. Earlier in the century, Heroica had defeated Kormanor, and the nation soon had an economic collapse. During this time, many Kormanians left Kormanor to live a better life in Heroica, Ghanar, or the primitive Soderani. The builders left Kormanor to live a better life in Heroica.
They started building what would be known as MegaMetro in the year 1738. The builders finished in 1745. At this time, MegaMetro was only on the island of Abingdon. The city started out as a small town, on the coast of Heroica. Wooden boats were used to transport citizens and newcomers from the mainland to Abingdon island. MegaMetro consisted of small, straw huts, and very small, straw houses. In 1749, Aaron Gurke elected himself to lead the town. This gave birth a controversial period in MegaMetro. People revolted against Gurke. But some people, including the builders, followed Gurke. This led to Gurke exiling the protestors from MegaMetro. The population in MegaMetro was divided if the protests were for the good of MegaMetro or counter-productive for the city like a later protest 111 years later. Although most people thought it was counter-productive for the city.
After seeing how violent the citizens could get, Gurke established the beginning of the MegaMetro Police Department. He hired several trained soldiers to serve as police. Over the years, many more people were trained and hired.
Throughout the decades, most of the Divine Envoys, people with powers, stayed silent, and hid their powers. This remained so for a couple centuries. The city was made up of normal humans, and the Envoys, who were disguised as normal people.
Every five or six years, a new leader would step up and take control of the city. In 1783, the leader of the city, and some of Heroica's government officials, met together to write a set of laws for the city. They called it Lex, Latin for law. In 1799, Richard Korblo, the town's 9th mayor, completely revised Lex, and a complete revision was made on it. Korblo's revision led the set of laws to be called Lex Duo, which is still used to this day.
By the time the city reached 1811, James Blake, 13th mayor, established a political system within the city. Every four years, an election was held, were candidates could run to be mayor of MegaMetro. Mayor's could run for four terms maximum. In addition to the election system, a city council was also founded, which was made up of 10 people who helped to vote for important issues. Citizens had to run in an election to be elected to the council. There was also a city house, which consisted of 400 people. Their role was similar to that of the council's. However, the election process was different. 400 random citizens were selected every year to serve in the house. But, Kiya Remar, the 17th mayor, changed the house system in the year 1835. Instead of having random people selected to serve, members of the house had to run in an election too.
Kiya Remar also helped with the physical development of the city. She had more buildings built, and homes were no longer made of straw. Buildings were now made of stone bricks. They were still small, but now, stone was the dominant material, which was more durable. She also had the Mayoral Mansion built, which still stands today. The Mayor's Hall was also built, as was the City Hall. A small police headquarters was built too, though it would be moved in the future. The MegaMetro Construction Department was formed. Mayor Remar brought MegaMetro out of its starting days. The city flourished over the next several years.
In 1845, a huge fire occurred in Abingdon. The cause was unknown, though historians suspect that the fire was caused by a criminal who was furious at the mayor. The huge fire burned through Abingdon, raging through homes, and other buildings. Luckily, the fire died down before it reached the Mayor's Hall. Damage was little to buildings, as most were made of stone. On the contrary, two people died, and many others hurt. William Thorg, 19th mayor, decided to form the MegaMetro Fire Department. Though rarely needed, the Department is there in case of an emergency.
When Mary Durk was elected as 20th mayor in 1848, she made history, in both good and bad ways. She was the first and only mayor to serve all four terms. For her first three terms, she was doing well. Mary had more police forces deployed, businesses were booming, and the crime rate was low. Mayor Durk even had plans to inhabit the islands of Lambourn, and the peninsula that would become Tarporley. She had bought the islands for MegaMetro, and she even had plans to continue the city on those islands. However, just after she was elected for her fourth and last term, one of MegaMetro's most controversial protests occurred. Some citizens in the modern day justified the protest stating it was for the impeachment of a figure who cheated the system, some called it counter-productive for MegaMetro and worthless.
Durk's opponent in the election, Stewart Warner, claimed that she cheated. Her opponent claimed that Durk had people voting multiple times. The city was torn apart for the year of 1860. The police force started an investigation. During the entire year, the crime rate hit an all time high. Anti-Durk people threw riots across the city, knocking buildings down. The protesters raided Mayor's Hall, and they burned the inside down. They also broke into the Mayoral Mansion, and did the same to it. This lasted for a year and was called "Warner's Protest".
When the investigation concluded, Mary Durk was found to be innocent. Thousands of protesters were arrested, as was Durk's election opponent. When this all happened, Mary Durk was expected to do great things in her final term. Surprisingly, Durk resigned, being stressed over all that had happened. She left the city, and it was predicted that she went to Soderani to live a simple life.
Mayor's Hall and Mayoral Mansion were both repaired. Sean Hall took up the office, being the assistant mayor. He promised to continue Durk's legacy. Hall deployed builders to have homes and buildings made in Lambourn and Tarporley. He also started the industrial revolution for the city. Buildings were no longer made of stone. They'd be made of bricks. Bridges were made. One bridge was made connecting Abingdon and Lambourn. It was made of stone, and called Stone Bridge, though throughout the years, it would be called 56th Street Crossover. Another bridge was made to connect Abingdon and Tarporley. Hall decided to honor those who came before him, hence Gurke's Bridge was made, honoring Aaron Gurke, the first mayor. This bridge was made of stone and metals. It was, and still is a drawbridge. One last bridge was made. It was too made of stone, and called Knight's Crossing. The police headquarters was also destroyed, and moved to Tarporley. A hospital was also built in Lambourn.
Sean Hall accomplished a lot during his three terms as mayor. The city advanced even further. Sean Hall was about to run for his fourth term, when he was assassinated. His killer was sentenced to death and executed in front of a large crowd in downtown MegaMetro. His assistant, Robert Remaro took office. Nobody expected him to do much. Since he was previously an assistant mayor, the election was still coming up, and most people expected him to lose the election. However, he won the election by just a bit. Remaro made many promises during his campaign. He wasn't expected to fulfil them. He proved his critics wrong.
Remaro had a plan to continue Hall's legacy. His plan was called Sky-83. He wanted to build 83 skyscrapers. Remaro was seen as a madman by the city. There was no way these resources could be found. Yet they were proven wrong as well, as there were many resources outside of the city. Mayor Remaro started the MegaMetro Resource Department. Miners were deployed just outside of the city, and they gathered metal. More resources were found, also. Another industrial revolution began. Huge, towering buildings were built in all three parts of MegaMetro. Remaro built 37 skyscrapers during his time, before he lost his third term election. This was because of new technology to build these skyscrapers. A metal bridge was built in his honor, called Remaro Bridge. It connected the two islands.
Mining continued as the city continued its quest for new resources. In the year 1890, more skyscrapers and buildings were built. New technology was introduced. Homes were built out of more durable bricks. The 24th mayor continued Sky-83, building four more skyscrapers in his time. Abb Stadium, called Defender's Stadium at the time, was built. At the time, the city thought they were as evolved in technology and resources as they could ever be. They were very wrong. During the next century, more and more resources and technology found its way to MegaMetro. It was no longer a small town. It was a city. Thus started the Gilded Era for MegaMetro. This era of massive development would last until 1909.
When the Gilded Era began to end, it was clear that the city had changed very much. Many buildings had been made. The city took a break, halting development for some time. During this time, many businesses saw MegaMetro as a place of opportunity. Hundreds of businesses moved to MegaMetro, building their headquarters in industrial Lambourn. One noticeable company was Ironsteel Corporation, which moved there at that time. They built Ironsteel Foundry in 1911. Many other companies did the same, building headquarters. They soon urged the government to build a dock for them. Lambourn Piers was built for the businesses, and they used it to export their goods. The Industrial Period lasted from 1909-1916.
All seemed well for the city. More bridges were built. A plan for a beltway that could loop all three parts was formed. More walkways were made. More buildings were built. More police were hired. But, in the year 1916, the first villain struck.
A man named Inquiq arrived at the city. He could move rocks. He attacked the city with his powers, destroying many buildings. He destroyed Mayor's Hall, and City Hall. He also destroyed a skyscraper. All seemed lost. This was when the Divine Envoys chose to reveal themselves. They used their powers to protect the city. Inquiq was killed, and the heroes were praised. From then on, the Envoys would no longer live in disguise. A simple metal bridge called Hero's Bridge was made. The Monument of Valor was built. Both City Hall and Mayor's Hall were completely remade.
After the Inquiq incident, the 28th mayor decided to form the AVD, Anti-Villain Department. They were a police force dedicated to investigating and stopping villains. The headquarters was built in Tarporley, and the AVD was formed. The Heroica Military also had a base built in MegaMetro, and they deployed soldiers there.
Despite these efforts, more villains attacked the city in 1923. Though they were defeated by the Envoys, many heroes died fighting them. The Monument of Honor was built. As was the MegaMetro Villain Correctional Center. The 30th mayor was curious as to how these Envoys operated. He hired an elite team of scientists, and the MegaMetro Department of Research was founded. They did some terrible stuff, however.
The mayor had some Envoys kidnapped by the AVD, and they were brought to the Department. The AVD ran some deadly tests, and some of the Envoys were killed. The Envoys who survived were forced to stay in the AVD headquarters for the rest of their lives. The results were delivered to the Department. This crime remained undercover, and to this day, only a couple government officials know about it. Even to this day, the AVD still tests weapons on Envoys and villains. Even the government officials who know about this incident today deny that it happened. This is a part of History classes that are not teached to students.
Regardless of this incident, the Envoys continued to protect the city. For a long time, there were no threats, and the city evolved even more. In 1930, the 32nd mayor started a recreational plan, called Nature for All. The Thorpton, Terama, Beatt, and Sorymo River Parks were all made. In addition to that, the mayor continued the plan to build a beltway. Construction began to build the MegaMetro Expressway. New technology, such as cars, were introduced.
In 1936, the 33rd mayor started a plan called iEducate. The MegaMetro School for Heroes, and the MegaMetro University for Non-Powers were both made. Abb Amusement Park was started, though it wouldn't be finished for a couple more decades. At this time, Charles Abb also bought the MegaMetro Defenders, renaming the stadium to Abb Stadium. Many elementary schools were also created at the same time in the parts of MegaMetro.
Almost a decade later, in 1945, the city reached its 200th anniversary. Remaro Bridge was redone, and MegaMetro Expressway was finished. Builder's Bridge was built in honor. Hero's Bridge was built, but back then, it was only a normal bridge. Huge celebrations were thrown, and fireworks were launched. Before, the government had to manually set up the fireworks to light up. They didn't have the technology to send fireworks up into the air automatically
When the year reached 1947, many Heroicans, Kormanians, and Ghanarians flocked to MegaMetro. The population multiplied like crazy. The MegaMetro International Airport was built, and production for Abb Amusement Park was sped up. Abb Amusement Park was finished in 1950. Soon, tourists started to visit the city of superhumans. Breakaway Beach was made, but not many tourists came there. Instead, tourists visited Thorpton Park and Abb Amusement Park. The Abingdon Docks were made at this time. The time of 1947-1950 is referred to as the Great Boom, since many people flocked to the city during that time, and the population boomed from about 10,000 to around 75,000.
In 1960, the 38th mayor added on to the city development. Veronica Cleall was the first and only mayor to have superpowers. While she was mayor, she divided each part of MegaMetro into five sections: a west, north, middle, east, and south section. She also started construction for Central Finance, a 120 floor building. Parts of MegaMetro Expressway were renovated. Abb Stadium went through major renovations.
The city seemed to be almost complete. During the next two decades, more buildings popped up. Remaro's Sky-83 plan was continued. By 1984, 23 more skyscrapers from Sky-83 had been developed. This meant that overall, 60 out of the 83 skyscrapers had been made. While the city thrived, the crime rate also grew. More villains with powers were entering the city. Luckily, there were many more Envoys coming in too. Some notable incidents include the time when a villain named Dark Mayhem attacked the airport in 1985, and tried to sink a plane. Mayhem was jailed for life. Another incident includes when a sorceress named Rahala tried to blow up North Tarporley in 1987. She was killed. Noticing the struggle between villains and heroes, the 44th mayor made the Monument of Glory in Tarporley. This era from the 1980s to now was known as the "City of Superhumans" Era for MegaMetro and was indicated by the rise of action and superhero comics all over Heroica depicting the city as an area of action.
Nearly two decades later, Central Finance was almost complete. In 1999, the tallest building in MegaMetro was finished. Many police were deployed by the 46th mayor to guard the building. Metrona Bank was also built around this time. Crimes continued to occur over the city. In late 1999 to early 2000, a baseball team located in another Heroica city moved to MegaMetro. They were the MegaMetro Eagles. Kinarra Comics, who owned the team, had Kinarra Park built for them in Southern Tarporley. Palonar Plazza was also built at this time, seeing as more and more businesses formed in MegaMetro. Around this time, a comic company called Wicked Power formed which would soon become the biggest comic producer in Heroica. They would be known for their superhuman comics that would be shared all around the continent. They would be bigger in popularity than their real life equivalent. This period was called the Great Development. Though it only lasted from 1999-2000, many places were built.
From 2000-2012, the AVD started to work on more weapons that police and heroes could use. The AVD and Police Department also decided to ally with the Envoys. Some Envoys worked with the government, and others didn't. Population continued to grow. At 2012, the population was 135,000. Businesses started to build headquarters in MegaMetro. The government of Heroica also decided to fund MegaMetro. In 2013, the AVD made a statement saying that these weapons were complete. They were given to the Police Department, and a couple, specially chosen heroes. The technology should have brought the crime rate down. The Press and Media in MegaMetro said that it was the "Project to end the Superhuman Era of MegaMetro." While no one noticed at the time, they were 100% wrong. Instead, it brought it even higher.
Coming close to 300 years old, the city has seen many changes during its time. Through the centuries, MegaMetro has earned its name: the city of action!
