Bio: Vonnie grew up in a small town just west of New Orleans. Her mother was a jazz singer in the city before she met Vonnie's father who was killed in the war. Her stepfather was an abusive drunkard who only became more and more possessive of Vonnie's mother as time went on. When Vonnie was 17 he flew into one of his rages and ended up killing her mother. In the aftermath Vonnie hit him over the head with the telephone effectively knocking him out. She packed her essentials and ran to New Orleans where she waited tables and danced in bars until she had enough money to get a ticket to New York. She's been dancing at Lapé almost since it was founded.
