~Frederika von Eisenhart~
-- Sentry Takedown --

Status: Nominal
Wearing: Fancy clothes, female
Carrying: AGL-12, Stahl Streitaxt, Vigilant Preparation ammunition pouches
Location: Raevedel City, Raevedel Square, Everinde Hotel

---

As the group had made their way to the hotel, Frederika sneaking in an impromptu princess carry of Hanna just to thank her for taking care of her earlier, she noted the sheer grandeur of the locale they were striving to raid. Much like Kiyoshi, no stranger to wealth was she, but where as her family was quite traditional, almost antiquated in its ways with money, the Everinde screamed nouveau riche, much as did its clientele. Nobody needed THAT much jewelry, or that ridiculous of a car, several of which she saw parked outside almost as if they themselves were in competition even as they remained still. She shook her head slightly, perfectly willing to enjoin the group on a lecture on the hazards of conspicuous consumption, but held her tongue; they were here to enact a rescue, not a social policy change.

The clothing she had changed into was actually quite comfortable to move around in; she would have to give credit to Hanna both for her fashion sense and her ability to correctly judge her admittedly enhanced proportions correctly. Such was the ease of motion she found with the outfit that she jumped at the chance to spring into action at Elise's request, nodding vigorously at the suggestion. "Ja, allow me a rear approach to the guard and I shall neutralize him, I give you my word."

Elise made a motion and the air around them seemed to almost thicken, sound ceasing to reverberate as it once did. Kiyoshi's portal sprang into position just behind the guard as promised, and with a single fluid motion, Fredi took out his legs and slammed him to the ground, a fist aimed straight at his face ensuring that he wouldn't be awakening any time soon. "Gut," she said simply, standing. "We are clear. We should hurry to Adrian's side, there is no telling what danger he is in at this point."

Iris smiled in genuine relief when she spotted Adrian following behind them, but her expression turned grim again at the sight of additional guards hot on their heels. With a wave of her hands, the same smoky substance from the meeting room rose up between them and the guards. The wall of smoke was noticeably thinner and more unstable than before, but it did its job to deter Gustav's men from following them.

"I can't use my powers well while we're on the move," Iris said between huffs as she ran. For all her decorous manner earlier, she looked like she was about to keel over any second if she ran any longer.

"Don't worry, dear sister! I can sense our demon prince's underlings close by! They must have found their way to the basement!" Violetta declared, barely breaking a sweat as she continued to speed down the halls. She turned her head to Adrian, "Our benevolent overlord arranged for someone to pick me and Iris up if things don't go well. Mayhaps they can get you and your friends out of here too!"

"No promises," Iris added under her breath.

After a few more twists and turns, the trio could hear footsteps and voices from the corner ahead. Iris grimaced and lifted a hand to ready an attack-

"No need to fear!" Violetta exclaimed, sticking an arm out to stop her sister. Iris blinked, but the confusion cleared from her face when familiar faces emerged from the corner.

"Oh," Iris turned to Adrian, a smile gracing her lips at the sight of the Otherworlders. "Your friends are quite committed to finding you, aren't they?"

But before the they could celebrate their reunion, footsteps sounded again from both behind them and the direction that the Otherworlders came from. Iris frowned and searched the halls for signs of their ally, to no avail. Well, they did get spotted faster than they'd expected, courtesy of her birdbrained sister.

"Perfect," Iris sighed. "Perhaps introductions can wait? We'll have to buy some time before we can get out of here, unless any of you have another idea on how we can get out of this situation?"

Elise Friedhelm.

As Elise felt the gentle thrum of energy at her fingertips solidify, the draft and the slight murmurs of whatever crowds were present down the corridor were denied entry. If the lone guard noticed the interruption in sound and change in airflow, he had little time to react before Kiyoshi and Frederika’s teamwork made quick work of their unfortunate target. Any yelps and sounds of struggle were silenced by both Elise’s barrier and Frederika’s fist.

Deactivating the barrier once prompted, Elise ran after the group of Otherworlders down the hallway. Fortunately for the group, the man they’d come in search of appeared just around the corner. However, Elise’s relief was short-lived upon spotting two other women she’d never seen before. Who were they? Enemies? Adrian’s friends?

Heavy footfalls from behind the incoming trio drew Elise’s attention behind them. Though she spotted only one figure, the noise was enough to infer that there were more quickly on the way. Well, that certainly answered her question. If who she assumed were the Faciete were pursuing the women, it was safe to assume that they were on the same side. For the time being, of course.

Still, she couldn’t help but say in a low voice to no one in particular, “It seems we weren’t as discreet as we’d thought.” Or perhaps they’d simply been unlucky with Faciete personnel closing in on them from the direction the Otherworlder’s had come from as well. Had they discovered the unconscious guard and been alarmed?

Were it a different environment, Elise might have asked Cleo to blow up a new path. Unfortunately, whether or not she could blast through hard marble aside, she doubted it would be good for Professor Kikuchi and the school if the hotel sued for damages. Curse the rich and their fancy walls. That said, it was highly likely that the hotel’s security would head down to basement to investigate, so they wouldn’t be in the clear until they left the premises completely regardless.

“First things first, we need to turn back down the hall we came from before we get sandwiched. Kiyoshi and I can provide cover if we come under fire,” Elise replied to the taller woman. As for what comes after, hopefully the others had something in mind. Maybe the fire alarms as a distraction. If not, they'd simply have to brute force their way through.

Having found cover behind a laundry basket, Usami hugged her knees and flinched hearing Frederika subdue the guard. She still couldn't get used to this- the violence. Sensing the scuffle was over, her head poked out from above the laundry cart to check if it was safe to come out of hiding. Her eyes fell onto the guard crumpled on the ground and checked in the direction of the hallway if their commotion alerted for backup. Usami figured whatever Elise did worked and crawled out from behind the cart.

As she was dusting off her skirt, heavy footfalls resonated through the hall- louder, it progressed- and made Usami tense in her spot.
"Those are a lot of feet,"
she thought as her head turned to face the source of the foreboding sound. Usami's feet shuffled backward; her instincts beckoned her to get away. Usami searched the corners of the ceiling for security cameras. Did taking out the guard trigger for backup? Usami thought that the barrier Elise created worked.

Sensing the footsteps getting closer, Usami shuffled closer to the others when she spotted Adrian barreling down the hall. His sudden appearance eased some of the tension in her shoulders but only for it to increase tenfold after hearing Elise's instructions to Frederika. Even Usami knew that they were greatly outnumbered. Usami became anxious after wondering what would happen if they did come under fire.

"Would they really start a fight down here,"
Usami asked herself, despite already knowing the answer. However, this seemed too dangerous and risky for them to handle. Her conscience continued to fight with her. Should she stay and fight? Or run away? Usami's head began to hurt as she continued to contemplate. The sound of footsteps closing in on them made her migraine even worse. Who could blame her for being scared? Was she also expected to match the same level of craziness as the others- who, in fact, appeared to be preparing as if a war was about to begin?

Usami gripped the side of her head and rested it against the wall. By doing so, she noticed a familiar red contraption attached to the wall. It was obscured by a stack of chairs, but Usami was confident about what it was. She rushed over to it, ignoring where it was located. Using her staff for additional leverage, Usami shoved the stack of chairs to the ground and stuck her hand out to trigger the fire alarm.

Cleo Donovan
Location: Everinde Hotel, basement

Soft orchestra music played in the background as the dozens of masked individuals, each in their own unique outfits, talked among themselves in this ballroom whose lights had since gone dim since Gustav D. Altergott had finished his speech. Many held drinks in their hands, or perhaps a nice plate of small desserts. The air was tinged with a sweet aroma that seemed to have a pleasant effect of calming one's mind. There may be chaos going on across the walls, but it would be oblivious for the Faciete members who were enjoying their time in this nice grand party that Gustav had prepared for a job well done. Well, at least until the fire alarm rang.

That sharp, piercing noise cut through the air, blasting in full volume like a sheep screaming on repeat about a danger that actually didn’t exist but hey, it did its job. The peaceful chatter among the Faciete members stopped immediately, their eyes filled with confusion for a brief moment before they began to rush toward the entrance. It took only a moment before a stern sound began to ring through the speaker—a “please remain calm as you evacuate” and some “Please stay in order as you evacuate, an investigation will be taking place…” plus other words that nobody really pays attention to when they are panicking to leave. This was not only going on in the basement. The fire alarm rang through each floor of the hotel, alarming everyone of a possible fire, taking the highest precaution against a threat that could have possibly been benign. After all, this hotel was not only made of wealth itself but also filled with too many people of the upper class, or at least those with enough authority around.

Soon, each entrance and exits would be filled with people lining up to leave, and for the Faciete members of this party they were no exception. The double door quickly opened at the sound of the fire alarm, and people began rushing out all at once. The hallways that were originally empty became quickly filled as they looked to leave, searching for those staircases that would lead them upstairs.

“Damn it! Which bastard pulled the alarm?!” Sounds of frustration could be heard among the crew who was ordered by Gustav to bring the prestigious Otherworlder back with them. It was annoying enough to deal with that Iris lady masking them with some stupid smoke…! The woman in particular who had first spoken to Adrian when they burst into the meeting room looked even more infuriated in particular, her hands tightened into a fist as she grit her teeth.

They couldn’t risk creating this commotion and letting the hotel find out that the biggest criminal organization was holding a party in their basement. They have to leave like any other person before they bring any suspicions.

“...Everybody! Forget about the otherworlder for now. We are evacuating with the rest!” After taking a hard look in Adrian’s direction, her position as a leader among this group would become obvious as she ordered the rest to evacuate like what the other Faciete members were doing right now, already beginning to pour in their direction.

Just as that little Gustav faction made their decision, the group of otherworlders could also begin to hear the sounds of tromping footsteps from the ceiling. Everyone must be leaving the hotel now.

Come on, Adrian!” Cleo took a quick glimpse at the unfamiliar two women by Adrian’s side. She was quite happy when they were able to meet each other so fast as soon as they reached the basement and reached a corner, but she was immediately alarmed when he spotted the two women by his side. Although judging by the taller woman’s words, they seemed to be harmless for now, if not on the same side. Her brows furrowed briefly before deciding there is a more important matter at hand. The otherworlders reunited just as the Faciete members swarmed into them. Cleo took this moment to call out to her fellow crew.

Run!

A fight would’ve been satisfying, but leaving while this whole chaos was going on seemed to be the better option. The whole thing was exciting enough, causing unnecessary consequences from an unnecessary fight isn’t the most rational decision to be made at this moment. Nonetheless, although Cleo the Troublemaker was smart enough to figure this out, some unsatisfied Faciete members, especially those from Gustav’s orders who could’ve originally brought Adrian back, still thought it would at least be nice to give them a stab or two.

So while they were all rushing to the stairs—and most of everyone’s attention was obviously to get out of here—the otherworlders would still find themselves surrounded by Faciete members. Among them was a mix of people genuinely prioritizing leaving, and some not so much. While they were escaping the hotel, they would find multiple throwing knives being thrown from behind. Then on one side of the Otherworlders, a Faciete member had pulled off a handful of long hair from her head and threw them in the group’s direction. Each strand of hair transformed into a snake a meter long as they hissed, ready to bite down on anyone nearby, with the closest toward Kiyoshi and Usami in particular. On the opposite side, a cowboy-looking man was waving a thick rope with a giant loop that seemed to enlarge and shrink based on its owner’s will. He threw the rope out, ready to bind Adrian, or Hanna, or maybe even Ravyn, but anyone petite and light-looking enough for him to pull back…Not Fred because that gigantic woman may be too strong for him to pull.

Anyways, although some childish Faciete members wanted to pull some last attempts off, they would still reach the stairs safely and get out of the hotel with the rest of the people.

As our group of students fled the building, they all sighed in relief, knowing that they were able to successfully recover Adrian from an otherwise terrible fate. There was much to discuss, information that needed to be disclosed, and introductions to be had. However, more pressing matters would have to be attended too, for yet another enemy was quickly brewing on the horizon. They did not charge with blades in hand, but rather with cameras, microphones, and phones. On one side, Fans of Hanna and Kyoshi alike rushed to meet their idols, and on the other, news reports flocked to Adrian and his mysterious friends asking about what exactly had happened inside the pristine hotel.

With quick thinking, our group of students all fled the scene, each bolting off in a different direction, only to meet back up at the Academy. It had been a long day, and everyone had quite enough of the city for one day. Unfortunately, they'd have just a little more to do before getting a well deserved break. But for now, everyone could take a moment to breath, without the prospect of Facete soldiers attacking or fan's harassing.

Soon after the Otherworlders made their escape, Violetta and Iris's backup showed up belatedly to whisk them away from the scene. About two hours later, the investigations on the hotel drew to a close. There was no evidence of a fire or other emergencies, and it was concluded that the fire alarm was pulled by a young boy who had snuck his way to the basement. Said child was currently being given a stern talking-to by an officer, with his parents looking simultaneously apologetic and embarrassed.

"-don't do that again. And please, keep an eye on your child. He's too young to be wandering around alone in the first place," the officer huffed, concluding his lengthy lecture to the trio. He stared down at the boy, who fidgeted under his mother's hand on his shoulder. "Do you understand, kid?"

The boy looked up upon being addressed. He couldn't be older than six or seven years old, and he looked even younger with the tears threatening to fall from his bright green eyes.

"Well?" The officer prompted, crossing his arms.

"Um, I..." the boy's began. His eyes darted from the officer to his mother then back. He swallowed thickly and continued with a wavering voice, "I don't-"

"Speak up, dear," the mother chided, giving his shoulder a heavy pat.

"Apologize to the man, loud and clear," his father said. He gave the boy a long look. "You won't be causing any more trouble, will you?"

"N-no," the boy stammered out. His eyes drifted to the ground. "Sorry, sir."

The officer nodded sharply.

"Good," he looked up at the boy's parents. "My colleague will speak to you more about the possible charges, if you would just follow me."

Under the watchful eyes of several Faciete members lingering among the crowd, the family trailed after the policeman...

By the time Eiichi got back to the academy and regrouped with the Otherworlders, he'd already thought about what to say when resigning, and at least six different career paths that he could take. He didn't know if these students were worth the trouble-

But no, that wasn't fair to the kids. It was his responsibility for not realizing that something was wrong sooner. And really, he did sense that something was wrong. Being in Sal's presence usually put Eiichi at ease, but today, the longer he sat in Sal's shop, the more restless he felt. Just as he was about to excuse himself to check up on his students, his phone shrilled with multiple text messages. The first message from Elise had sent him jumping out of his seat, startling Sal in the process. But then came another message from Elise, stating that everyone was safe and that they were meeting back at the academy. It didn't take long for Eiichi to connect the dots and conclude that the couple that entered Sal's shop must have tampered with his phone somehow.

He couldn't hide his grimace as he listened to the students' account of their impromptu break-in of the hotel. Adrian also shared what Iris told him in broad strokes, and Eiichi once again had to wonder what made the Otherworlders so special. He'd spent years investigating the Faciete, both alongside and independent of the Vehemen Hunter Association, and he only got scraps of information on the elusive organization. Then, mere weeks after the appearance of the new Otherworlders, a heap of intel was dropped onto his lap, just like that. Even so, Eiichi didn't miss how vague this Iris was with the Faciete's aim, and he'd be a fool to take her words at face value. Just what in the world did Gustav and Iris's faction want from them?

"I'll communicate this information to the principal and the VHA," Eiichi finally said. It'll be hell, explaining how the students got this information in the first place and how he neglected to keep everyone accounted for during the field trip. "For now, just... Don't go anywhere. You all have classes tomorrow, so rest up."

Please don't cause any more trouble for me was left unsaid, but he hoped that they got the message anyway.

The Village
All Otherworlders and three professors present

9961C82B-4595-43D4-983B-B69673CEEB34.jpegGaeia Village is a relatively desolated village, far away from the main city of Praesces--or away from any cities in general. Instead, the village was located by the mountain ranges and built upon elevated grounds. Upon raising one's head, one could see the tall peaks from the mountains that had surrounded them. Like a powerful shield, these mountains prevented the strong winds from blowing directly onto the village itself...While it did help to a certain extent, it didn't really do much during the winter months. Its geographical location should’ve made the village much harder to bear during winter due to its higher altitudes. Fortunately, though, the village has a very adequate heating system. In fact, as magic research improved through the years, the combination of magic and technology—also known as magitech—made lives more convenient. The whole village was enclosed within a giant invisible heat bubble that protected them against the cold.

The Otherworlders wouldn’t be protected under this bubble for long though. Although they would be able to stay cozy for their one night here, by next morning they would be heading out of the village into one of the many caves that existed along the sides of the mountains. Some caves didn’t hold anything worth mentioning. However, others—like the one they would be heading into—contains a very special type of glowing gemstones that is embedded into the walls of the caves. These magical gemstones are the reason behind why the village could still be bustling with energy and remained relatively prosperous despite its location. They are depended on in magitech development, and are a important materials for the production of many magical tools. Due to its pretty nature, it is also often used for accessories and various jewelries. These gemstones only exist in such large quantity in the caves here. Many of the villagers mine these gemstones for a living.

However, recently, trouble had befell upon the village as a Poex had apparently occupied one of the caves known to hold the most of these gemstones. As the villagers had described, it didn’t seem to be a Poex that is too high-ranked, perhaps just a level B Poex. Upon notification to the VHA, the Vehemen Hunter Association then passed it to the academy, where it supposedly became fieldwork for Cleo and Elise, the second generation Otherworlders. The task was simple - investigate the cave and get rid of the Poex unless it is determined to be a higher threat that must include the aid of professional hunters. With the appearance of the third generation though, it became more logical for them all to go together instead, as Vince suggested. Besides, he himself is a professional hunter. He could just stay outside the cave unless they need his help.

A couple months had passed since the third generation Otherworlders had appeared. Sure, there were some incidents, most noteworthy was the one where Adrian got kidnapped and somehow joined a Faciete party. That aside, however, time passed relatively peacefully since then. All Otherworlders would’ve gotten stronger by now through the time spent in training, be it with their primary or secondary power. Adrian had also received a set of large darts, and Vince had decided to let Usami try out a set of bow and arrows. All Otherworlders would’ve gotten better at fighting already and would be relatively comfortable with using their weapons that they received in the beginning of the semester, which is likely why the professor decided that it would not be a problem for them to handle this type of fieldwork. That it might just be “too easy,” considering how the Otherworlders had already been engaged in actual combat against Poex the second they landed into this world. What did they fight that one with again? A signpost?

Nonetheless, an adequate amount of related experiences would be important in their paths to become great hunters. Therefore, this might just be a perfect opportunity.

The group arrived to this village through a jet plane that was just large enough to carry all of them. All three professors—Mitra, Eiichi, and Vince were with the students as they settled into this village by early evening. Despite the initial freezing temperature when they first got off the plane, the group would eventually be warmed as they entered the village and crossed the heat bubble. There, they would see that this small village would be bustling with energy even as night approaches. Various shops, restaurants, and food stands could be seen. As Vince led the group down the streets, they would be greeted by curious, excited, or disdained stares by the villagers alike, mixed with chatters and whispers.

“Look at our new heroes…! They’d come to save the day…”

“Disgusting how we gotta rely on them to clean that cave’s mess—if not for the…”

“The new gen huh, looking pretty reliable I guess…”

“Why so many girls and so little guys? They be looking good though…”

“I trust them…Who else to trust…”

Regardless of how the villagers perceived them, the group would peacefully arrive at an inn at the corner of the street. Round wooden tables occupied the space upon entering, where many were already occupied. The air was filled with the savory aroma of freshly cooked food waiting to be ordered and plated, and with it was a hint of alcohol and other types of drinks.

The Otherworlders would settle down at two relatively big round tables next to each other, so they could all sit together as Vince began his quick introduction.

Welcome to the village! This will be the only night you get to rest, so make sure to eat and rest plenty to prepare for tomorrow. All of you should have a gist of what you’d be doing when we head out of the village into that cave. The Poex has likely taken residence in the cave and don’t seem to have the intention to come out itself yet, so we should use this opportunity to get rid of it as soon as possible. If it is a mission that Elise and Cleo could’ve handled alone, then it should be easier with all of you combined, especially with the training over the months. Even in the case of exceptions, me and your other dear professors are here. However, unless needed, I will be staying outside the cave tomorrow. As for Eiichi and Mitra, It is up to them whether they want to accompany you guys or not.” He would prefer they stay with him, though, so they can all go on a date together while their students are fighting, or so Vince thought but didn’t say.

I’d already spoken with the innkeeper prior to coming here, and she’s well informed about you guys’ appearance for today. Food shall arrive shortly to you guys, and after eating all of you will have a room upstairs to rest,” he gestured toward the stairs. “The innkeeper had left the entire north side of the second floor empty for you all, so you guys can just pick a room. I’d be heading upstairs myself first for a shower, I’d leave you to enjoy among yourselves. My room is 207, feel free to knock if you have any questions~

Sure enough, after Vince had finished his introduction and taken his leave, a waitress would came forward to the tables to place various plates and bowls of food onto the table. They ranged from hot pumpkin soups to fried noodles and rice, to barbecue ribs and steaks or ham, to potato or green salads, and more. Different kinds of beverages, such as juices and teas or plain water were also provided, but no alcohol. The moment they were all placed onto the table, it almost made the atmosphere look a little festive. Wine bottles filled with water and teapots were placed on the table along with the plates of food.

“Welcome! It’s exciting for us to have you guys visit! Aw, you all look so lovely!” The innkeeper herself had come forth, light green eyes standing out against her tanned skin and long dark, wavy hair. Some villagers who’d been sitting at other tables would also raise their glass of beers at them as a gesture of friendly greeting. “We usually keep to ourselves, but we’re all friendly to any visitors most of the time. This time it looks like you guys are here to do a big favor for us though. We’d be in debt to you guys after this.”

“Lila, no need to be this nice to them! I bet they’re just a bunch of pissy losers in the end! The TV’s all fake news, government trying to trick us!” From one side of the inn, an old man’s coarse voice could be heard shouting across the inn. Lila would roll her eyes upon hearing before continuing to talk to the Otherworlders.

“Haters will always exist, but don’t let any of them discourage you. I’m sure all of you will do great.” She smiled warmly.

“After you guys kill that Poex please marry my son off!” A relatively middle-aged female villager would bark, then paused briefly before she continued. “Or my daughters! I have too many! They all single!”

“That’s because they ugly!” Another villager shouted back, and the inn was briefly filled with laughters. Under the warm yellow lights, the inn felt cozy and heartwarming, an atmosphere that was hard to experience in a busy city like Raevedel. People here were indeed friendly on the most part, and on good terms with each other. Although sometimes they may clash against each other, in the end, everyone mainly just wanted to live a peaceful life.

Lila chuckled awhile herself before she left the Otherworlders to eat among themselves. Soon after awhile, the villagers would’ve also lost their interests in talking to these visitors. Everyone resumed to dine peacefully, although that didn’t mean that their topics of conversation wouldn’t be about the Otherworlders still. Chatters continued to echo in the inn, occasionally loud enough to be overheard.

“You think that Poex in the cave’s the reason behind the villagers disappearance…?”

“If that’s the case then these otherworlders really be doing some good killing it…”

“I doubt the Poex’s the reason though, the villagers disappeared before they found out about the Poex didn’t they….”

“I mean, who knows?”

“Lila’s brother was part of the group that disappeared right…? So did Judy’s husband…Brian’s daughter…That poor man…”

Without the previous lively and energetic vibes that the villagers held when they were loudly shouting across the inn as they greeted the Otherworlders, their moods appeared a lot more solemn when they were just chatting among themselves. For a brief second, sadness could be seen flashing across the faces of the villagers here. Suddenly, as if their hidden anxiety and fear that they were trying to conceal earlier were all revealed now, grimness overtook the previously cheerful mood of the inn. Perhaps everyone were just forcing themselves to keep on a smile as a way to push on living, after all.

It wasn’t until a drunken man tried to stand up but fell clumsily onto the floor with his buttocks pointed up in the air did the villagers cracked into laughters again, and the conversations about the disappeared villagers could no longer be heard.

Wonder what they were talking about with the disappearing villagers,” Cleo was the first who voiced up to the group after the whole deal was over, leaning forward from her and taking a sip of apple juice. Man, she would’ve preferred alcohol.

Elise Friedhelm.

Elise’s stomach did a twist upon laying her eyes on the steak across the table. If anyone happened to see an article whose title was possibly along the lines of “Five Teens Found Alive a Week After Disappearance in Cave” open on her phone two hours prior, it certainly wasn’t related to her current poor appetite. Opting for a simple fix of noodles and potato salad, the girl sat quietly while listening to the murmurs around her and occasionally giving her food a small nibble.

The mentions of disappearing villagers did little to assuage her worries, though these disappearances were far more ominous than getting lost in a confusing cave system.

Having had enough of torturing the poor potato salad, Elise ceased her idle poking and rested her spoon against the side of the bowl. She cautiously flicked her eyes towards the villagers, then the professors. The villagers’ backs were all turned, too busy with their meals or drunken ramblings to pay the Otherworlders any mind. Without a doubt, the sharp ears of professional hunters would pick up on her words, but she didn’t think they’d be interested in mere speculative gossip.

“It’s weird that people disappeared when the Poex was said to have stayed in the cave most of the time,” Elise said, her voice high enough for the Otherworlders to hear but low enough that her words didn’t carry beyond their table. “Back in Ningen, backwater communities like this were breeding grounds for suspicious dealings. I wouldn’t be surprised if these disappearances are something similar. It’s not like the government would grow alert until the situation gets bad enough.” Though she ended her two cents with a shrug, the way her teeth gently worried about her bottom lip hinted at further concerns.

Gaeia Village was one of the cornerstones of the magitech scene, but she wasn’t sure if a singular level B Poex required an entire class with some extra (three professional hunters at that) to take a field trip so far out from the academy. The strange manner in which the academy gauged the assignment’s personnel to threat efficiency was a bit shady, though it’d been glossed over as “field experience”. It was as if they’d been purposefully gathered in a specific setting. Given the public’s manner of using the Otherworlders as convenient scapegoats, she wouldn’t be surprised if this incident chalked up to being something similar. Of course, the chance that Elise was overthinking things was high, and the academy had simply prepared a small “surprise” to test them. Jerks.

Adrian tore into a thick cut of steak viciously, slicing it into slim pieces with his knife and fork. Delicious as the meat was, it did little to calm his jittery nerves. The mission in the mountains near Gaeia Village brought the Third Generation the farthest from Raevedel and the academy that they had been yet and was the first practical test of what they'd learned these past few months. The first Poex since the overwhelming night of their arrival. Even with the reassuring presence of the Second Generation and their professors, Adrian would be lying if he said he felt entirely confident. Choking down another mouthful of steak, he drummed his fingers nervously against the table as the villagers' more-than-mildly concerning conversations filled the inn.

Finally giving up on the meal as his poor appetite protested rebelliously, Adrian set his utensils down and pushed his half-eaten plate away. Instead, he reached out and raised his cup to his lips, taking a long pull from its contents. He made a face and set it down again. Black tea. A poor substitute for the addict's usual coffee, but even he wasn't willing to drink so much caffeine the night before their mission.

“Wonder what they were talking about with the disappearing villagers,” Cleo spoke up, finally breaking the silence left after the villagers returned to their own conversations.

“It’s weird that people disappeared when the Poex was said to have stayed in the cave most of the time. Back in Ningen, backwater communities like this were breeding grounds for suspicious dealings. I wouldn’t be surprised if these disappearances are something similar. It’s not like the government would grow alert until the situation gets bad enough.”

Elise's theory was entirely plausible, Adrian supposed, but for some odd reason it didn't sit quite right with him. Yes, Gaeia Village was incredibly isolated from the rest of Praeces, but they'd been informed that the village and its inhabitants were integral to the magitech industry. Surely the government would monitor such an important region closely enough to hear about the disappearances earlier, especially considering how the missing people had apparently vanished even before the Poex was reported and drew attention from the VHA. It wasn't as if the villagers would hide them from the government, right?

"It's insanely suspicious. Even if the disappearances and the Poex are completely unrelated, it's weird no one at least mentioned it to us if they don't know what happened yet." Adrian paused to take another sip of tea and pulled another face. Still as foul as the first. "A bunch of people vanishing from a village this small and then reports of a Poex soon after should've warranted more attention. The only proper reasons to not tell us - that I can think of - is if the VHA either hasn't even heard of what happened or already knows the disappearances have nothing to do with the Poex."

Rubbing her hands together, Usami exhaled the moment they traversed through the heat bubble. Her frigid frame loosened as warmth began to spread throughout her body. Usami rubbed away any evidence of sleep from her eyes and looked on in wonder. Gaeia Village looked better in person than any image she searched online.
"Wow...,"
she couldn't help but mumble. She stumbled forward as she realized the group moved ahead. She pulled the collar of her top out of awkwardness. The comments still hadn't ceased, but instead of slouching and hiding among her peers, her back straightened.
"That's right... I got a bit better lately,"
she reassured herself and moved along.

Anything she brought was safely placed in the storage device, which she eventually customized into the chunky green scarf. Although her stamina has improved over the course of months, walking was still her foulest foe. The moment they settled in the inn, Usami shed her outer layers and retired to a vacant seat. She fanned herself as her skin was sheened with sweat. Usami licked her lips upon the food's arrival and divulged herself with pumpkin stew and a bread bun. Having heard worse, Usami enjoyed herself and proceeded with a swig of her beverage.

"That's because they ugly!" ...said beverage was spat out. She made haste to wipe the droplets with the back of her hand.

Usami began to pick at her bread bun like a bird as both her seniors and Adrian spoke. Her throat felt dry all of a sudden as she was buttering her bun.
"...but they could be related,"
Usami mumbled.

She took a big bite out of the buttered side and spoke again, regardless if they could understand her or not.
" *munch* A cover-up by the government. *munch munch* The missing *munch* in on it too... Professors *munch*..."
Usami flooded her mouth with water and sighed contently.

She cleared her throat and twiddled with a fallen lettuce leaf.
"I could be wrong though.
As she was starting to feel slightly embarrassed, she grabbed her walking stick and left the table in search of a restroom. She could be heard telling herself that she should've kept quiet.

The Cave
All the otherworlders present

]There were many assumptions, couple of ideas being tossed out by the fellow Otherworlders as the words of the villagers reached their ears. Although Cleo was the one who initiated the discussion, she had instead invested the rest of her time in eating instead of making any more comments. Eyes occasionally glanced toward the stairs where Vince had gone up from, realizing that the man had no plans of coming back down.

Neither would this whole group of Otherworlders see him again until the next day, looking as equally refreshed as everyone else - or at least, he held the expectations that everyone should look as refreshed as him. After all, with that one night in the inn, everyone should have gotten a full night of sleep to replenish their energy for the “great adventure ahead of them today,” as Vince enthusiastically remarked. Whatever secrets or drama may be lurking behind this village should play little importance for these otherworlders today, their sole mission being only to deal with whatever Poex is occupying the cave. At seven in the morning, the mighty haughty cry of a rooster owned by the innkeeper would be the alarm that would wake the Otherworlders and the professors–if they were still sleeping–up. By eight in the morning, after a decent-sized breakfast with varied options were provided, the Otherworlders would be ushered onto a van outside the inn.

The village was bustling with energy during the day too. It was the opening hours of most shops and restaurants, and people were already starting to gather onto the streets. Sweet sounds of harmonica echoed into the air from a young street performer who had started his performance for yet another day. As villagers made their ways for the van to drive through, they eagerly took a peek at the people inside. Some people shouted a couple good luck’s at them, or a nice warning for them to be careful, to not die, or something along those lines.

And twenty minutes later, they would arrive at the cave.

—-

blank_tradingcard.jpg
It was freezing—without the heat bubble that had protected the village, the icy coldness from the harsh winter near the mountain mercilessly drilled its way into their skin. Professor Vince Elvelo had recommended that they do not wear too much, for it would later hinder them during their fight with the Poex.

The inside of the cave was illuminated by a series of torches on both sides of the walls. Each torch was protected by a thin round boundary bubble that prevented the flame from dying out or keeping a fire from happening. Aside from stopping anything from coming into contact with it, the downside is that the bubbles trap the heat too so the temperature inside the cave was not that much better than the outside. The walls were rough and layered, the product of clastic sedimentary rocks and sand and mud that hardened and fused and accumulated over the years to form the unique pattern it has. Perhaps Professor Mitra could give a nice explanation about how a cave like this is formed by mother nature. However, the professors would not be in here with the Otherworlders right now.

Just before they entered, Vince had briefly re-touched their mission, spoke a couple of words, and re-addressed the mission details.

I brought all of you guys in, not only just because it’s a great opportunity to learn, but also in case of anything unexpected happening,” he had said. “Remember, we do not exactly know what the level of this Poex may be yet. As low as it is assumedly reported, since we are not completely clear of what may be in this cave, it didn’t hurt to bring all of you guys in.” He smiled sheepishly at the crew.

"As your worry-fret mommy, Professor Kikuchi worried about leaving you guys solely to my care, so he came along. I recommended Professor Mitra to come too, for, after this task, I figured there are plenty of scientific things to learn about this place. However, I want you guys to handle this mission completely on your own without our guidance. This means, we will stay in close contact with each other - but we will not be following you guys in. We will do as much to not intervene unless any emergencies happen.” He gave the Otherworlders a wide grin. “Don’t worry, Cleo and Elise will be there if anything……

….....

The cave wasn’t too much of a maze, although it may occasionally be confusing with a couple of twists and turns and sometimes multiple pathways to choose from. Fortunalety, most wrong paths led to a dead end too, so in the end, the cave wasn't too difficult to navigate. Some life can be found here, with bugs of different sizes crawling on the ground or the walls. Rats walked boldly alongside them, but like the bugs, none seem to mean any troubles.

They didn’t really need to go too far deep into the cave before the torches on the walls were replaced by glowing crystals and fluorescent gemstones instead. They could be found embedded into the walls or on the sides of their paths in increasing numbers along with some mushrooms, moss, and small wild plants that could live under little light. The blue, green, and red light these gemstones emitted were bright enough to replace the torches. This cave was indeed one that was rich with resources.

Finally, after a couple of minutes of walking, they could begin to hear a sound too distinct to be the bugs or the rats, or whatever small creatures that could live in here. It was the loud sounds of multiple something scraping against the grounds, tapping against the walls, scurrying around. The sounds came from still a distance away, but as they ventured deeper into the cave, it's definitely coming closer...

The soft drip of water echo'd through the cavern as our hunters explored the dark depths. Each twist and turn led them deeper and deeper into the underground, and as the hunters pushed forward, the only light provided were the floating flames that Hanna had provided. However, the somewhat peaceful spelunking trip would take a turn for the worse as the hunters would come up to a large opening, with wat. As if on que, critters of all sorts begun to flood towards the pathway in which the hunters came in.

Nothing could prepare our hero's for what they were about to face.

8 black shiny eyes pierced through the darkness from the ceiling of the cavern, it was a massive spider, it crawled down to the hunters, and studied them before letting out a blood curdling hiss before slinking into the shadows.

"Uh, I don't know if this is a good time to tell you guys...but I'm deathly afraid of spiders..." Hanna admitted with her katana in both of her hands. With a bit of concentration, she sent out small fireballs to light up the cavern , and sure enough, the spider was found once again on the far side of the cavern. It hissed again at the sight of such bring light, but this time shooting almost needle like hairs being fired at the group of hunters.

"Incoming!" Hanna shouted, diving behind a stalactite in order to avoid the projectiles, and the poex begun it's advance towards the hunters, barreling towards them and a concerningly quick rate.

Somewhere within the middle of the group, Usami's senses remained vigilant as they trespassed further into the cave. In place of her usual staff was a black colored bow- an arrow was placed in position, ready for action. The absence of her staff was still a foreign feeling, but it brought Usami a smidge of hope for a better future.

As the group entered a large opening, Usami sensed something threatening lurking in the shadows. The muscles throughout her body tensed as she waited for something to happen. A breath remained caught in her throat.
"There's danger... There's death ahead of you. Shoot now!"
her thoughts chanted like demons harassing her.

A cluster of eyes revealed itself on cue, and the tightened hold on her bow quivered. She could hear her arrow drop to the ground with a clank. Meanwhile, Usami kept her eyes trained on the creature as it crawled along the ceiling. She flinched as the Poex hissed and retreated to the darkness. As soon as Hanna lit up the area, Usami felt her heart drop.

"Incoming!" She heard Hanna yell from the front of the group. To which, Usami snapped out of her frightened stupor and retreated for shelter. Unluckily for her, a rock jutting from the ground patiently waited for Usami to cross its path and tripped her as intended.

Usami attempted to roll along the ground to elicit a fast recovery. As trained, her focus immediately targeted her opponent the moment she regained balance. Within her line of heightened sight, a barrage of needle-like hairs advanced toward her. Her glowing eyes scoured for the nearest cover, which revealed itself to be a small boulder a few feet ahead. As fast as she could, Usami ran forward. A shield was conjured to protect herself simultaneously.

PANG! PANG! PANG! The needles, a lot stronger than Usami anticipated, collided with her shield. The force of the attack almost shoved her backward. Cracks stretched throughout her shield like a glass window taking damage. Fortunately, Usami managed to reach the boulder just as her shield shattered to pieces. A needle narrowly missed her head by an inch.

"Remember to breathe. Remember to breathe,"
Usami reminded herself repeatedly as she notched an arrow into the bowstring. Her hands trembled and her heart thumped rapidly in her chest. Sweat dripped across her forehead, which she wiped away with her sleeve. Usami listened for the whistling of the first attack to stop. She peeked her head above the boulder once she determined it was safe to look, but sucked in a breath as the Poex advanced toward them.

Shoot for the eyes? Take out its legs? Use their surroundings against it? The Poex's advancement growing increasingly louder and closer made Usami panic. Unable to process a well-thought-out tactic, Usami revealed herself from her hiding spot. With an arrow already notched, she drew the bowstring back. Her arms (still lacking the efficient muscles) strained against the pressure of the bow as she forced the arrow to her cheek. The skin of her fingertips burned from pinching the nock to the bowstring tightly. With her best judgment, Usami released the string with one of the Poex's eyes as her target.

Elise Friedhelm.

Amidst the ripples of sound generated by boots falling upon the wet cave floor, Elise listened keenly for any sudden movements. She’d long given up attempting to squint past the dimly lit corridors, hoping she or someone else’s ears would pick up on any potential dangers instead. Right as the group passed by the last of the cave’s natural light, a faint chorus of squeaks gradually grew in volume. Upon venturing closer to the source of the sound, the group was led into a large cavern, no doubt where the squeaking was coming from as a rat skipped over her foot. Like all the other critters they had encountered prior, the rats and bugs scurried around the students and scrambled into the darkness behind them.

They were fleeing from something—more specifically an eight-eyed beast whose den they had just trespassed upon.

A heavy thump and series of mechanical clicks announced Andraste’s appearance, and Elise was quick to secure her shield and form a crystalline plane just large enough to cover her and anyone crouching behind her. To her surprise, the impact of the hairs felt reminiscent of the bullets fired from a handgun. However, though numerous, the hairs were still too thin to do much harm to any creatures that could contest the mammoth of a spider in size. Perhaps there was more to them.

“Needles. Possibly toxic,” Elise said curtly. With her brief warning delivered, she kicked off the floor and rushed towards the charging spider. The girl soon dug harshly against the small barrier she’d formed by her feet to help brace herself for the incoming impact. Stationed to her front was her shield and the first barrier she’d formed, now expanded and reinforced. Even if she pushed at the spider with her physical strength as well as the repelling force of the other side of the boundary, she could only hope to keep it from advancing for a second or two. As long as she could buy time for the others to recover and react.

Despite wearing a stern facade and taking the initiative to engage the beast, Elise could feel her heartbeat in her throat. Spiders weren’t bugs, but she- ugh, no. She didn’t want to continue that train of thought.

Far from the comforting protection of Gaeia Village's barrier, the below-freezing temperatures practically froze the breath in Adrian's lungs. The cave afforded some shelter from the icy winds outside but did little to stave off the deep cold that permeated the mountain. Even the torches that lines the stone walls of the cave early on radiated no warmth - supposedly due to the barrier that preserved their flames - and the crystals that soon replaced them didn't even look as if they could.

Adrian drew his thick overcoat closer about him in an attempt to stave off at least a modicum of cold as the Otherworlders ventured further along their chosen path. Though he certainly didn't anticipate having to fight the reported Poex, the longer they went without any signs of its presence heightened his sense of tension. It had been a while since the Third Generation had faced their first Poex and they'd changed significantly - not to mention that they had real wepons now - but the skills they'd gained had still yet to be tested.

Casting a glance back into the distance, Adrian adjusted his coat once again. He'd taken up the rear of the group, watching out to ensure they weren't ambushed from behind, even if all signs indicated that the Poex would likely be deeper within the cave. As the faint sounds of movement began to grow louder, that was quickly confirmed.

The path the hunters-in-training were on opened into a large cavern not as well-lit by the crystals that dotted the cave until now. Adrian recoiled as a swarm of vermin and insects flooded the tunnel floor, scurrying over and past his feet with great haste. The boy shuddered with disgust at the sensation of a hundred tiny bodies touching his own, even if only for the briefest of moments. But the critters had fled as rapidly as they'd appeared and a more important problem presented itself before the group.

The Poex they were searching for emerged from the shadows in all its massive, hairy, long-legged, beady eight-eyed horror to emit a sharp hiss at the Otherworlders. A spider. It was a spider of monstrous proportions, outfitted with a set of dangerous-looking fangs to match. Adrian grimaced at the sight before it vanished back into the shadows, quickly shrugging off his heavy overcoat. The cover of darkness was, however, quickly stripped from it as Hanna lit the cavern's expanses with her flames.

A short cry from Hanna - "Incoming!" - was all the warning Adrian got before they were beset by a volley of projectiles. He dove to the side, ducking behind a nearby cluster of stalagmites for cover. The tall stone columns shielded him from most of the barrage, though several cracked under the force of the blows. Several stray needles tore though an exposed portion of his nearby fallen coat, leaving small, coin-sized holes in its left sleeve. Damn, and Adrian had actually liked that one, too.

"Needles. Possible toxic," Elise announced from further ahead, forcing Adrian to promptly abandon the thought of dragging his coat behind cover. Even with the protection of his gauntlets, he didn't want to handle anything potentially toxic any more than absolutely necessary.

Instead, he peeked out around the damaged stalagmites to spot Elise rushing forward to meet the Poex's charge. Scrambling out from behind his cover, Adrian drew one of his darts - sharp, needle-like things the length of his forearm - and moved in to support her. Mid-stride, he reared back and flung the missile at the cavern ceiling at a large pointed stalactite hanging above the Poex, reinforcing its launch to propel it faster and further. The dart shattered the stalactite partway-down, sending several feet of jagged stone falling down towards the spider. Taking note of where the first fell, Adrian deftly drew his second dart and continued to move across the cavern.

The chill of the air was bracing, and though Frederika was no stranger to cold climes, even she had to admit this weather was at the limit of what she'd be willing to operate in for any particular amount of time, particularly given the suggestion the professor had given. Personally, she'd have rather sweated through an entire parka and deal with the hygiene consequences later, but rules were rules, and so she found herself standing in the cavernous reaches of the mountain tunnel with naught but her outer layer of of cargo pants and a leather jacket to tide her over. As she ventured forward, the top of the proverbial spear of hunter trainees, her grenade launcher was out in her hands, looking for the first target that would need to be explosively persuaded to reconsider its actions. Said target would appear to respond to her inner thoughts nearly immediately, as the scurrying of rats and other vermin underfoot followed by the skittering of chitinous legs told the ardent German they were not alone.

As the spider was revealed from the flames of her roommate, the shout that came from her was too late for Frederika to respond, and several of the needle-like projectiles embedded themselves into her form. However, where as a lesser woman would have been laid low by both the impact of the hairs, as well as the toxins which began to seep their way into Frederika's system, instead this merely enraged the acolyte valkyrie, a roar of battle leaping from her throat as she pinned the trigger on her grenade launcher, sending miniature grenade after miniature grenade out towards the creature. As her limbs began to burn from the poison, she slung the launcher and brought her axe aloft, responding to Elise's remark about the needles with a "They are indeed... and I intend to show this beast what i think of its gesture in kind!" before charging straight into the fray.

The Poex charged towards the group of heroes, and when Elise charged forward to intercept the beast, it bore it's venomous fangs and moved in to take a bite out of Elise. However, instead of sinking into the soft skin of the hunter, the Poex was met with a hard barrier that not only startled it, but pushed it backwards. Before it could process what had just happened, an arrow would sink into one of it's eyes, causing the Poex to screech in pain. It then slowly turned towards the attacker, Usami, it's 7 remaining eyes filled with malice.

Before the spider could exact it's revenge, a loud crack would cause the spider to look up and see the stalactite fall straight for it's body. In the blink of an eye, the spider would flip around and point it's rear end towards the falling stalactite, and after a few twitches, white, sticky silk would shoot out like a bullet. The silk would unfurl into something reminiscent of a net, and catch the stalactite, causing it to shatter and stick right back unto the ceiling.

Before the Poex could fire it's webs again, several grenades would almost completely tear through it's rear end, and the spider would let out a scream so terrifying that even the cavern would begin to shake. The poex flipped around again, and saw Fredi charge towards it, axe in hand, and bore it's venomous fangs once more, however, this time, the venom would shoot out towards Fredi. Before it could shoot much venom, fire would burst on it's face, and the stream of venom would end abruptly. Hanna would smugly smile as she blew the smoke off of her hand before picking up her katana once again, and running towards the spider.
"I'm going in! Watch my back!" Hanna shouted.

Fingers— stiff from frigid air, laced with sweat and cavern dirt— stung as Usami released the arrow. Shaken brown eyes were denied the luxury of falling shut. They remained resilient as the arrow soared silently through the air. A chapped lip caught between her teeth.
"Let it hit,"
she begged with anticipation. Oh, the embarrassment she'd face if she missed. The consequences if she accidentally struck the others—

SCHICK!

Usami's trained eyes flickered to the noise. Alas, her arrow met its target— skewered into one of the eyes of the Poex with a retched squelch. Foul Poex blood spewed like rotten berries under sharpened muddle. It mixed with its foul shriek— an ungodly concoction. Meanwhile, Usami graced herself a moment of self-praise. She nearly checked to see if the others would praise her as well, but such a moment was short-lasted as the Poex fell further into fury.

"R-right. Okay. Let's do that again..."
Adrenaline began to enrapture her— riddled along her spine and soul with payment of her desperation to live. Succumbed to the relentless puppeteer, Usami notched another arrow and laid aim to assist the others. She failed to release it as the Poex dealt with the falling stalactite and Fredericka's grenades.

As Fredericka and Hanna pushed for their next attack, Usami recalled Elise's warning. She wasn't foreign to the duo's tendency to throw caution to the wind.
"Cover on the way!"
Usami slung her bow across her frame and sprinted to closer location. Pressed against a stalagmite for cover, Usami focused on Hanna and Fredericka's moving figures and projected two shields to protect them.

2nd Gen Otherworlder

Elise’s arms remained strong and steady, refusing to so much as buckle under the weight of the spider crashing into her barrier. The moment the crack of the stalacite’s descent echoed throughout the small cavern, the ash blonde pushed off of her foothold and deftly flipped around to step off of the large pane between her and the spider. The repulsion force of the barrier sent her a safe distance backwards as it cracked under the tips of her boots and dissipated into shimmers of crystalline shards.

A quick reassessment of the situation confirmed that the group had successfully locked down the monster. Hanna and Frederika continued their heavy assault on the spider, while Usami and Ravyn continued to provide support from the rear. With eyes narrowed to focus on the spider’s movements, Elise considered her options. Should the currently assembled team of Otherworlders require individual cover, she trusted Usami to continue providing shielding from the spider’s hairs and its spitting of venom. Fortunately, the spider appeared easily distracted, and she doubted it would attempt to launch another large-scale attack anytime soon. Perhaps it would be best if she could lock down its attention onto her.

When Hanna shouted that she was reengaging the spider, Elise simultaneously ran forward, using one foot to once again bounce off of a barrier she’d set parallel to the floor. As she sailed over the spider’s rear, she tucked her body behind her shield to ward off any potential spray of needles. The moment her impromptu vault drew her closer to the spider’s head, she straightened herself out. Allowing gravity and inertia to do most of the work, the girl crashed down towards the spider’s head while swinging her shield downwards. Though she doubted it would harm the spider by much even if it connected, she hoped it would disorient it or at least annoy it to the point that it turned its attention towards her.

The earth trembled as the giant arachnid's deafening screech echoed throughout the cavern. Seemingly-sturdy stone shook and creaked, small pebbles shaken loose by the vibrations raining down around Adrian's shoulders. The boy cast a wary glance up at the lofty ceiling. If any stalactites were to fall, anyone caught unawares beneath them would be split in twain. He grimaced at the thought of being gored by one of the mighty skewers.

Thankfully, the rumbling subsided quickly enough without knocking any of the stone spears free. Still, the threat it had posed emphasized the hazards of fighting underground, even if the cavern was as large as it was. The longer this clash dragged out, the greater the chance of something collapsing, possibly on top of someone. That was as much a threat to the arachnid as to the Otherworlders now. While it had been able to deal with first assault using its webbing, the creature's spinnerets had been damaged heavily by Frederika's explosive assault, leaving it unable to replicate the same defenses. Adrian eyed the remainder of the countless spears suspended from the ceiling.

Again, then.

The sounds of battle redoubled as Hanna, Frederika, and Elise's threefold advance drew the Poex's ire. Adrian put himself in motion, slipping between pillars of pale rock to circle around the spider. Snatching up his second weapon from where he'd noted its fall, the boy was now a few paces from the Poex's left flank. With a swift motion, he wound and fired the pair of projectiles on a direct trajectory toward another cluster of stalactites. Another gesture brought his focus to bear on the spider's abdomen, attempting to pin the remains of its already ruined rear to the ground.

It was a fantastic combination of attacks that took advantage of the cave’s environment. A sharp growl made the ground shudder when Elise pounded down from her head, yet before it could turn its focus on her was another ambush from another male who circled around the pillars. Slowly, the Spider’s strength began to fade away from her own body - poisonous fluids spilled out from each wound created on its body mixed with the rotten stench of her purple blood. Its movements staggered and slowed despite its attempt on the last waves of defense. Yet no needles or webbings were as powerful as they once were, collapsing weakly against the humans’ shields.

At one point, the Spider was smart enough to realize the best course of action to take in this situation: to flee.

Eight long, hairy sharp legs began to teeter away from the humans, crashing against the walls and barely avoiding the tumbling of the stalactites from above. It swayed its legs around when the humans drew near, still shooting out poisonous needles and webbing in an attempt to defend itself to guarantee a successful escape. It aimed to crawl its way to the back of the cave - much deeper in through a path that began to narrow behind her. With the Otherworlders closing in around her, the Spider, in a fit of panic, squeezed into the path only to realize that it is leading to a dead end. By that time, the tip of its sharp legs had impaled and cut through the cavern walls and ceiling, making the entire enclosure more unsteady by the minute. As it reached the end of the path, the Spider crashed its body into the wall upon recognizing that there were no other options to escape. Mustering its strength it would repeatedly lunge itself at the wall, redirecting its legs to pierce into it until long cracks began to form. It was acting as if it knew that this wall was merely a nuance on blocking another path behind it—

We have to eliminate her!” Cleo remarked. She had surprisingly made barely any efforts in this brief battle, seeing that the rest had very well taken over the entire mission. Yet in this moment, a white glowing orb was forming in her hand. At the final moment, just as a hole could begin to be seen by the spider from the crack, Cleo’s orb collides into the rear of the spider - forcing an explosion that tore the spider’s hard skin apart, finally forcing the beast into an eternal slumber right after it gave one last shove onto the wall. Mud and dust formed into a strong smog that blocked the Otherworlders’ visions and nostrils while stalactites crumbled down from the ceiling followed by the Spider’s collapse.

It took a moment for the Poex’s body to finally fade away, leaving behind a crystal Lux to be collected.

Yet what should draw the Otherworlders’ attention more right after the battle, however, would not be the way the interior of the cave was destroyed, or the piece of shiny rock that was left on the ground by the Poex, or not even the way the wall opened up to another hidden pathway - much darker without any illumination and perhaps an air of pure eeriness…

But rather, the sight of a young bony child with swollen red eyes who peeked his face out from the other side of the hole, his cheeks filled with cuts, his curly short hair thickly tangled with mud. He was extremely thin, with dark circles around his blood-shot eyes.

Yet those same eyes were opened wide in surprise, as if he would have never expected the wall to crack open like this - or to even expect to see humans in general. The boy stood there in shock, frozen like a statue, before he crashed its tiny knees into the ground before him.

“Please…! Please save us…! Please…! Mom’s…No…We’re dying…! We’re all dying..!” Through his chattering teeth and sore throat came a loud and desperate cry.
