Vanessa is a confident young woman with a playful, flirtatious attitude (though she's not the kind of girl you'll see in frilly clothes.) She's a rough and tough tomboy that doesn't mind getting dirty. She's capable of taking care of herself in a fight and has a bit of a violent streak; she enjoys the thrill of combat and doesn't mind roughing up opponents a little. Despite her rough streak, Vanessa has close ties to her family and is usually laid back; as shown though her habits of chewing gum and kicking her feet up on the table. She's also has a bit of a maternal streak around children; referring to young girls as "sweetie" and young boys as "buddy."
Vanessa tends to call men around her age "tiger"; but although she's flirty, she likes to have romance on her own terms and will impulsively punch or kick a man if she feels like she's being womanized. The same goes for any obnoxious womanizer in the room regardless if she was the intended target of the remarks. She also doesn't like it when people mess with her motorcycle even though she could always repair it with Highway to Hell. But what she hates the most is not being able to protect those close to her or innocents caught in the crossfire of Stand fights.

Vanessa's father, Dr. James Heart, is an employee of the Speedwagon Foundation and works from the Dallas, Texas headquarters. 21 years ago, he was helping with research for a cancer cure with an Italian doctor, Enrico Moretti. James and Dr. Moretti became close friends. They didn't make a lot of progress on their cancer cure and were on the brink of becoming discouraged. In order to stay positive, Dr. Moretti invited James to visit at his home in Arezzo, Italy. "Consider it a vacation," the doctor said. James took him up on his offer.
While living with Dr. Moretti, James met his true love, Anna Russo. After a year of dating, James and Anna got married. James brought Anna back to his Texas home and they started a family. Vanessa Heart was born shortly after the Heart's one year wedding anniversary. James was reassigned to other SPW work and occasionally brought Vanessa to work with him when she was older. Vanessa was interested in the technology, but she didn't want to be a doctor; she wanted to become a mechanic like her uncle in Arezzo, Antonio Russo. As Vanessa grew up, she had spent more time around male friends and had become interesting in sports and vehicles. She would occasionally visit her mother's family in Arezzo and while there her uncle would teach her about how to repair vehicles.
When she was 16, Vanessa started to hang out with the wrong kind of crowd at her Texas high school. Underage drinking, drugs, and partying surrounded her. One night she was sitting in the passenger seat as one of her friends drove a group of teens on a joyride. The driver and the other teens were buzzed. The driver started to get dangerously close to the side of the highway. Vanessa tried to grab the wheel before they fell down to the street below. The fear awakened her Stand and the van turned into a flaming black version with a skull emblem on the front. While the van was hellish, Vanessa realized that she was driving on the side of the highway bridge. She drove the car back onto the highway. Her Stand stopped possessing the car and Vanessa drove the rest of the way back to her friends house.
After that she rode back home on her motorcycle. Back home she noticed her Stand looking at her from the reflection. She was initially scared of the hellish biker girl until her father explained that she was seeing her Stand. Although her father couldn't see Highway To Hell, he was extremely helpful by bringing her to SPW to learn about Stands and how to control hers. As the years went on, Vanessa distanced herself from her delinquent friends and continued setting herself up for a career in auto repair. Currently Vanessa is getting ready to go to collage for a Mechanic degree and is working at her uncle's auto repair shop in Arezzo, Italy to save up some money.
