Futuristic VANA [ Atticus ]

Atticus continues cutting wood, have nothing else on his mind other than just getting the other side of the ship boarded up.

Unless something happens, Atticus and his group will finish collecting the wood, and head back to the ship to work on repairing the ship, unless they are too tired after finishing the construction of the corridor.

If at any time Elliot says he needs some rest, Atticus will take over lookout duty.

You, Ethel, and Ellen end up collecting 100 wood. This is 35.71% of the total wood you need to complete the project. It's about the middle of the day when you three start on the project. Elliot oversees the project from the foxhole on the top of the hill, still remaining vigilant for any hostiles to come out of the woods.

You and the three others continue to work on the project. After 16 hours and after the moon's always risen into the sky, you've completed the project as much as to your ability with what wood you have. Elliot says he'll be able to maintain through the night's watch, saying that he wants to think about things anyway.

After having done all that he could on the other half of the ship with the time that they had, Atticus decides to head to sleep after hearing that Elliot wanted to keep lookout. However, he reminded him that if he needed to, he could ask and Atticus would take over.

In the morning, Atticus will either do the same thing he did yesterday, gathering wood and working on the second half of the ship, or take lookout duty, if it's needed.

In the morning, you awake. Elliot decides to retire from his watch duties and lets you take over as the sentry. Ethel and Ellen set out to collect wood so that they can finish repairs on the other half of the ship.

Matthew is mostly recovered. About another day and he should be brand new again.

Atticus lies prone and remains vigilant on the hill as Ethel and Ellen work, being grateful for how much work they had gotten done to fortify the hill.

Without much to see, assumingly, Atticus' mind begins to wander. He wonders about whether he will see his homeland again; he had no loved ones to miss, so it wasn't that which made him homesick.

He hoped that the more he and the refugees fortify the ship, the safer he will feel, and the less he will miss where he came from.

You can hear singing from the treeline. It's coming from Ethel and Ellen. They're singing in a foreign language, though. They work together merrily as they cut down trees and create logs and planks to help fix up the other half of the ship.

Elliot, Matthew, and Adam are all sleeping soundly in the cockpit.

Atticus takes note of the foreign singing and decides he'll ask about it later, deciding it wasn't too important. He continued keeping an eye on the trees, while also on Ethel and Ellen particularly to make sure nothing snuck up on them. He was determined to keep them safe.

After another hour of working, Ellen and Ethel start to slack off a bit. They sit down together and sing, tell each other jokes, and just talk about the events transpiring in life. It's a beautiful scene, really. Two women, sitting in a field, glowing smiles drawn across their faces, a beautiful treeline in the back. You hear movement coming from inside the palisade walls. Elliot's woken up. He leans against the opening in the palisade wall and watches them, his arms crossed.

He looks around, grabs an ax and then heads out to go chop down trees, giving Ellen and Ethel a break.

Adam and Matthew are still asleep.
Matthew will fully recover tomorrow.

Atticus had become a bit bored and, along with observing the women working in the treeline, and their chatter, Atticus heads into the ship briefly.

He smokes a bowl, and breaks open and consumes a shell-potato, feeling energized and lifted from both activities.

Hoping to stave off the monotony of lookout duty, Atticus heads back to the hill and starts to dig the shell scrape out horizontally, making it into a deeper, more defensible trench. He does this while trying to keep an eye out on the surrounds of the ship.

You kill your hunger and some of your boredom with your extracurricular activity. You also stave off the menial task of keeping watch by creating a more defensible position. This goes along well without interruption.

The repairs to the second half of the ship have been completed thanks to the help of Ethel, Ellen, and Elliot.

(Nice new profile pic, dude)

Atticus smiles as he looks down to the ship, observing the numerous improvements that he had been able to make to it with the help of the refugees from Wento; in only a couple of days, no less. Atticus would have been lucky to complete the corridor within a week by himself; this was definetly a good change of pace in terms of his ability to construct.

With only one more project he wanted to get done, which he felt to be less important than the previous one, Atticus will inform Ethel, Ellen, and Elliot of his plan to make ramps from which they could shoot over the palisade, but insists that this can be taken care of tomorrow, and the trio had earned themselves some rest.

Atticus also says that he would like one of them to be prepared to come up the hill to take watch in the event that he becomes too tired to continue.

"I'll go ahead and take over when you're too tired, Atty," Ethel says. She had become much more loose after working out with you and Ellen for so many days. It was a first time for her addressing you as Atty, though. Ellen smiles at Ethel and then heads off to the second part of the ship to sleep and to admire her handiwork. Elliot says nothing to you and retreats to the second half with Ellen.

It's the evening now. Everyone's been having rest and relaxation since they completed the larger projects. A good number of trees were cut down in your campaign to build these projects, though. You're now more exposed to attacks but have better shelter from the elements. As you peer into the coming darkness, nothing stirs in the forest. It's quiet. All you hear is the passive buzzing of insects.

Suddenly, a scream. You rush down into the cockpit with Elliot and Ellen shortly behind you. There, Ethel is clutching Adam in her arms, tears streaming from her eyes. "He's having a seizure!" she cries, looking at the three of you in the doorway of the ship. Elliot and Ellen are quick to react. They pick up Adam with the aid of Ethel and lay him someplace where he can't hit anything. They lay him on his side as his body continues to flop around as if he was a doll. Foam starts to pour from his mouth.

Atticus smiles at the way Ethel addresses him, finding the nickname cute. Sure, it was a bit emasculating, but it was something that showed the growth in camaraderie since the five of the newcomers had taken sanctuary in the ship.

As the scream pierced the air, Atticus rushed down to the ship with the rest, and Atticus watched as Elliot and Ellen moved Adam to somewhere safer for him. "Shit! What's wrong with him? Has he got some sort of disease?" Atticus questioned as he watched the man's mouth begin to foam. "What do we do!?"

"I have no idea! I was just sitting here, cleaning the pistol when he started violently shaking!" Ethel cries.

"We just have to sit it out. He's never done this before," Elliot says, his hands on knees, his face painted with defeat. Ellen cries silently.

Atticus swallows hard and beads of sweat begin to form on his forehead as he looks around at the despaired survivors.

"I'm sure he's gonna be okay, but that scream might've brought attention; not that I blame you," Atticus said to Ethel. "I'm headed back to the hill. Keep an eye on him; let's all stay in the ship for now just so we can be here for him," Atticus adds further, before taking his liter bottle of water out of his pack and placing it next to Adam, for anyone to feed to him in the event that he stops foaming.

Leaving the water and the rest of the group in the cockpit, Atticus heads back up to the hill, his nerves frayed. He tried to forget about what was going on down there, not wanting Adam's seizure to kill the later part of his high from the bowl he had smoked.

You leave the survivors crying. You head back up to your defensive position and watch out for any creatures that could've been attracted to Ethel's scream. After about fifteen minutes, Elliot comes out.

"Atticus," he calls.

"Yeah?" Atticus calls back in response, looking down from his entrenched position over to Elliot, an eyebrow raised, curious what he wanted.

Atticus is stunned by Elliot's words. "Fuck really?" he questioned; before rage began to take over. "That fucking asshole in the forest! He must have concussed him, severely. I should've deployed the ship's bots to him..." Atticus said, beginning to feel guilt of oversighting the fact that Adam had been so severely injured. Atticus takes a deep breath before further asking, "Are the girls alright?"

"They're torn up about it. It's going to take them awhile. We should bury him," Elliot says. His voice is emotionless.

Atticus nods, that being what he was going to say next. His voice, too, was very somber.

"We can do it out past the palisade. Maybe in the trees, if you think looking at his grave in the field everyday would be demoralizing for everyone. Unless you think the girls should be there, we can have Ethel assume the lookout while we take care of it. Ellen can stay in the ship."

Elliot beckons you to follow him inside. The girls are in the other half of the ship trying to comfort each other. "Go ahead and get Adam's body. I'll ask them if they want to be there," Elliot asks.

Inside the cockpit is still a slumbering Matthew and a corpse. Adam's eyes are open, blood vessels in his eyes exploded, leaving blood to fill his eye. A puddle of foam surrounds his head. His hair is damp. His skin is blue.

Atticus takes a deep breath and looks sadly at the dead Adam. Before anything else, he slides Adam's handgun out of it's holster, placing it and any spare magazines found on Adam next to Matthew for him to retrieve when he wakes up. Next, Atticus runs through Adam's pockets and backpack, scavenging through both for anything useful, and leaving anything found near where Adam had died. Any personal effects Atticus will leave on Adam's person for him to be buried with.

Atticus will then pull Adam onto his shoulders in a fireman carry, and bring him out of the ship, before waiting by the palisade opening for Elliot and anyone who would be accompanying them to dig Adam's grave.

(Ellen took Adam's pistol.)

As you begin to lift up Adam, Elliot comes into the room. "The girls are going to come but they only want to be there after he's buried."

The two of you take the carcass out by the treeline. You both start to dig out the hole. You finish in about an hour. After you and Elliot have put Adam's corpse into the grave and filled it up, Elliot utters something under his breath. You two retrieve the girls. They weep and hug each other. You all return to the ship.

(Oh okay, didn't think she would have cus she don't like guns)

Atticus, after having dug the grave and sat there awkwardly and in silence for about ten minutes next to Elliot while the women cried, walks into the ship and takes a long drink of water. "Elliot, mind taking lookout?" Atticus asked as they walked back into the ship, scratching his neck. He wasn't about to make Ethel do it.
