Hi!!! Sorry for throwing another potential player at you. But this is sick in a good way. LOVE me some urban fantasy; super interested in sending an app C:

I was incorrect about when I'd be done with my cs, lol- but I have a question about a possible Imprint for my character-

The basic part of this idea is that like- he can unweave a monster’s core behavior or trait by identifying and severing a hidden metaphysical β€œthread” of truth. In doing so, he loses part of his own perception or mental/emotional faculties for the duration of the Cycle... some examples being...

If he unravels a monster’s immunity to light, he becomes unable to perceive light for the rest of the Cycle.
If he severs the thread of β€œit only targets the loud,” he becomes unable to speak above a whisper.
If he breaks the rule β€œit never retreats,” he is gripped with irrational fear and constantly wants to flee.

That kind of stuff- The more existential the thread, the deeper the rebound sort of thing, which of course would be up to your decisions and such. It won't be too good against people outside of a cycle- I'm workshopping if we want it to do anything to people at all really

Alright, I edited my powers again. Please let me know what you think.
JINNI JINNI

I'm done with my sheet, tell me if anything needs to be changed
Looks good to me for now! Let me know if you decide to make any tweaks.

I must say that I really like the concept! The cost-for-effect angle is strong, too. The examples make the power feel useful, but still grounded and flavorful.

Just a heads-up: if you decide to go ahead with this power, when you use the Imprint, the thread that gets severed will be revealed by me based on the scene and the creature, it won’t be player-determined. That keeps things balanced and lets me tailor the consequences to the situation. For now, I’d also prefer to keep it Cycle-only. Maybe it can extend to other people/imprints as the RP progresses.

Overall, I think it’s a great fit! Looking forward to see the full CS.

awesome! That's fully how I had intended it! I'll be sure to finish it before I go to sleep- I've been on it for a lil while now so almost done!

Wait, I have to make a small tweak to his backstory as I have just realised that something doesn't make the best of sense

hi! I was wondering if I could get more information on how imprints and abilities are decided/applied? Do they have direct connection to a character trait or the monsters/tasks? Or are they completely random? I'm not sure if you answered this already, so I'm sorry if it's a repeat question. :bishiesparklesl:

Hi, don’t worry! It’s a great question. Let me start by explaining how Cycle Tasks work.

Cycle Tasks are like events that get posted publicly on the VALK app. Everyone sees them at once. The post shows a location, a time, and a message that the Cycle is active. Anyone who chooses to join will enter a Cycle Zone, which you can think of like a dungeon. The task itself can be anything from defeating a specific creature, to killing a hundred enemies, or destroying a structure they’re guarding.

For example, a Cycle might take place in an abandoned train yard. But... the trains move on their own. Violent shadows crawl between them. The Task says: β€œSilence the shadows.” You realize the monsters are drawn to sound, and the longer you stay loud, the more of them appear. The team has to figure out how to fight, or shut down the trains’ power.

When the Task is completed, the Cycle ends. VALK may reward participants with an Imprint, but not everyone. It chooses based on contribution. Sometimes only one person receives an Imprint. Other times, multiple people do if VALK judges they contributed equally. The Imprint usually reflects something about what happened, such as your character’s instincts, fears, growth, or even the nature of the Task or monster.

That said, you're free to suggest ideas for your own character. (and if you're not sure about something don't hesitate to ask!)

EDIT: woops forgot to explain about abilities as well.

Valkyries get abilities from uncommon tasks. So early on, VALK gives out Tasks that seem harmless or random, like leaving a coin somewhere or walking backwards for a few steps. But once a user keeps going, the Tasks start changing to be more stranger & specific. You might be told to whisper into a drain at dawn, draw a sigil in sugar and wait, or stand in silence in a crowd and listen for a name that isn’t yours.

These are what players call Uncommon Tasks.

When someone keeps doing them, their body starts reacting and they get abilities. They're not quite superpower-level yet, but they do augment the body, for example, cut heal faster and reflexes sharpen. These should be subtle, but would help them survive the much harder cycle tasks which involve 'fighting' monsters.

thank you so much πŸ™ I am trying so hard to think of powers but I am drawing blanks YvY. I have everything else done and still can't think of anything cool

Maybe you can think about a past mission they experienced as described,or simply something that would complement their personality or background well

Hmmm, since Luca is used to overworking himself until something gives, an imprint idea would be a toggleable imprint that pushes his body past its physical limits. When activated, every movement becomes faster, heavier, stronger, but his body gets more strained the longer he has it active.

It may come across as a generalized version of Ryan's ability, but maybe an ability that is thematically relevant to Luca would be the ability to lend aspects of his being to people?

Like,he contributes his running speed to someone else, and they get faster while he slows down, maybe his legs even get weaker outright. Or he lends eyesight to someone and they might even get brief telescopic or remote vision, while he becomes blind for the duration. Maybe he could even lend broad concepts like height.

i like this too! ahhh :-; you guys have such good ideas

If you want silly ones for abilities:

1. Silent Steps: footsteps are now silent. Perfect for sneaking!
2. Crowded Slip: be it a cluttered floor or a dense crowd, you can always pass through smoothly. No bumps, no side steps, no awkward shuffle.
3. Perfect Iron: no matter how much you move, no wrinkle ever appears on your clothes.
4. Green Light Luck: by foot or in vehicles, you never wait longer than 5 seconds at a traffic light.
5. A Rock to Some: you have 0 presence to animals and they usually don't notice you until you touch them.

Tossing this out as an Imprint real quick, JINNI JINNI .

Convert 100 and 500 Β₯ coins into energy, either in the form of beams (kinetic) or radial explosions (thermal), at the cost of lowering core body temperature in order to Prime the conversion.

I dunno if Imprints can improve over time though. General idea would be that they could reasonably Prime coins ahead of time (to a certain degree) while in like, a sauna or a bathtub, but doing so in combat is gonna make them hypothermic so fast it’s crazy.

And yet, it’s probably the case too that the longer a coin has been Primed for without Release, the weaker the ultimate converted energy blast.
