Something's coming.
It's dangerous to send information this way, so I'd prefer to explain everything in person. We're meeting tomorrow at 9 p.m. at the address below.
By now I'm sure you've noticed that you're a bit off. A couple of degrees tilted away from reality — or toward another one. Maybe you can predict events moments before they occur. Or maybe the temperature drops whenever you're around. I don't know the details, I'll be honest. But I know you're like me. A magician, a sorcerer — whatever you want to call it.
About four years ago, this town was almost destroyed by a monster I still don't really understand, a type of vampiric beast that absorbs arcane energy. My friends and I thought we stopped it. Turns out, we just put it to sleep for a while.
Now, it's waking up. And I'm the only one left. That's why I need your help. Because when it wakes up, it'll be hungry for magical energy. It'll come after me.
And it'll come after you.
The Pitch: A mid-sized coastal university town in California is home to a variety of arcane beings — ghosts, fae, vampires, etc. — some friendly, others not. It's also host to a handful of magicians whose abilities have recently materialized. You're one of them (or you could be a magical creature, but I'll probably limit this to one or two characters, depending on interest). You've had little time to master your abilities — in some cases, no time at all — and are commissioned with defending the city against the malevolent forces that threaten its citizenry (think Monster of the Week type stuff). But you've also been made aware of the imminent arrival of a much stronger being that has the ability to siphon magic energy from others, often killing the host. You'll have to trust that your powers, honed by your fights against the evil creatures in the city, and your bonds with your allies are enough to defeat it once it appears. Or you could move cities, I guess, but where's the fun in that?
Details:
- It's entirely possible that there won't be enough interest in something like this to justify a full RP, but if it receives a good amount of attention, I may have to limit the number of characters that are involved (maybe something like 4 magicians and 2 good-aligned creatures).
- We'd be using a version of D&D/5e's schools of magic to help you figure out your magician's strengths and weaknesses. Don't worry if you've never played; it's really just to help give some grounding to the magic system, and I'll explain each of the categories.
- This is a very early idea, so I'm happy to try to integrate any suggestions as long as they'd make for a more fun RP for everyone.
I'm happy to answer any questions that y'all might have!
