Information - As the story begins

I know I've not exactly been clear about what's going on as the game starts, but here is a description with at least some but detail.

We'll begin on or in proximity of Magnus Hjarle's farm in northern Midhalpad. It's a large farm with two long houses and several other buildings. Several families live here and with for Magnus, who is a the local Patron.

It's closing on on midsummer, and as such the warmth is finally arriving for real and the nights are bright. As far north as Midhalpad the night is almost as bright as day for the coming month.

The last couple of days brought a heavy rain storm that prevented people from traveling the roads. Very unfortunate considering that the Allthing is supposed to be held in Silangir in a week's time. Magnus, who represents this area has therefore been delayed.

We're almost good to go! Some characters still need minor tweaking and I need to post my own character (I've strategically waited till last so I can create a character that matches the rest of the group).

Now, since we've not heard from @Eraticwanderer in a while, I think it's fair if we start up without them. It'll be fairly easy to add another character in the beginning anyway.

I'll get it all started a soon as I can, so keep your eyes out! :)

And we're live! Go ahead and post! You can meet Ylvi on the road, or already be by the well talking to Magnus. Or perhaps you're still out on the meadows looking for clues? Just ask if there is anything you need to know :)  Whatever works! We'll not have a set posting-order-cycle-thing, so feel free to reply whenever you want. Just try to let everyone have a a chance at replying before you reply again. Below is some new information:

Campfire

For situations where two or three characters are exclusively interacting with eachother and the others are outta sight, please use the Campfire section and post a thread for each such interaction there. The Campfire section is meant for to develop characters further outside of the main story, here you can play out scenes that happen during time-skips (because we're going to have many of them), behind the scenes or even things that happened a long time ago. Just go nuts and don't hold back!

If someone is not posting...

We're allowed to control their character. Jupp. If anyone has been inactive for over a week anyone is free to control their characters to make the story progress. Note that you should pay much respect to other players characters when controlling them! Don't have them act out of character.

GLHF!

Update - Politics in Midhalpad

Here's some information you may need to know to understand the current happenings and going ons in-game. As for example why Magnus is ready to leave even though his daughter is missing!

Midhalpad is in a state of confusion and on the brinks of war. The entire region is being torn in different directions, which causes many settlements to argue with each other. On the west coast, the Danr grows stronger for each passing year, and their ships patrol the Midhalpadian seaborders ever so often, which is considered both a good and a bad thing from a Midhalpadian perspective. It opens up for many new possibilities in terms of trade and communication, but it also means that The One Faith gets more of a foothold in the region, which in turn means that the Danr Church of the One, sees it fit to claim any land where a new church is built. It also sours the Midhalpadian relations with Sverjia.

In the south however, Silangir has been dragged into conflict with Gevalia and Osheim, the two realms that borders directly to Midhalpad in the north. The two realms are fromer allies that are currently in conflict about who should control Dalina, an area that holds sizable mountain range and river that separates Osheim, Gevalia but that also continues north into Midhalpad. It's a most important route for trade and communication with and for Midhalpad.

Lastly there is the north-eastern territories of Midhalpad. People there are anything but found of the introduction of The One Faith. Word has it that people here wish to rebel against the rule of Silangir, claiming that the southern rulers of Midhalpad have forgotten their roots and are turning into Sverijan lapdogs. People in these lands have turned their eyes north instead, and have started seeing the Lapun as their bretheren.

About Magnus Hjarle

Magnus is an important man. As a patron, he his a representative of the people in the area at the Allthing and Landsthing. Given the current conflicts and threats to Midhalpad, and given the geographical location of Magnus' farm, it's only natural that he makes his voice heard. If either conflict takes the wrong direction, he'll be greatly affected. He is not only responsible for his own family, but for the entire area in which he lives, in which he grew up, in which his ancestors once prospered. He is responsible for much, and it will be his legacy.

Of course, your characters need not know this. Information travels very slowy in Rotsheimgaard (especially so in Midhalpad, where there is no mail system nor many roads at all.).

Please, ask any questions you may have in the OOC-chat :)

Update - Midsummer

In the game world, we're closing in on midsummer. Midsummer is celebrated throughout all of Rotsheimgaard, and celebrations are always held on Midsommer's eve, which is the longest day and shortest night of the year (late June). It is to celebrate the arrival of summer and warmth, and most (if not all) cultures arrange big feasts on this occasion.

In traditions with roots in The Old Faith, Midsummer feasts are usually held in honour of the goddess Wann. She's believed to have been working hard all of spring, bringing new life to the world after the frozen death of winter. And at Midsummer's eve one can behold her finished work in all it's glory!

The Midsummer Sacrifice is one of the most important ones throughout the year; for it is not seen as a gift to the gods, but rather a cleansing where the thing sacrificed is something you do not wish for during the course of the coming year. A big fire is lit, and sacrificial subjects are consumed by the fire. It's popular to sacrifice sick cattle, but having ill or diseased people sacrificed is not unheard of (even if it is outlawed in Midhalpad and Lapunia by the powers at be in Silangir).

The One Faith, however, believe that this day is the when The One shows what reward his followers are given for their had work throughout the long, cold winter.

It is a common tradition to decorate homes with flowers and leaves. It's also tradition to craft and wear crowns of leaves and flowers, and only dress in white during this day. Midsummer, and the following month is the only time of the year when children of The One Faith are allowed to be baptised.

Human Tjettanis followers believe Midsummer's eve to be of much importance as well. However, there are no common traditions or feasts arranged. Still, it's said that their connection to whatever deity they worship is strongest at this date, allowing for them to gain more and new powers. So just as in the Old Faith and One Faith, the worshipper is rewarded by their faith on Midsummer's eve.

Creatures such as trolls and elves celebrate during this time of the year as well. It is said that music can be heard from mountains and from under the ground during midsummer's eve. Exactly how they celebrate is unknown to most people, but most theorise that they perform vile and wicked versions of the traditions known to humans. Elves are said to always dance in the fields at midnight however, and thus this is the most sure way to ever see a live elf for most people.

Midsummer's Eve is the night when the magical winds are most potent throughout the year. It's almost as if the entire atmosphere is filled with magic and mystique. And at midnight it's said to reach a climax where the mortal world and the magic world beyond are so close that magic acts can be performed by almost anyone (Though, women are said to be more so effected by this than men).

Here are a few examples:

- It's possible see the dead in mirrors and through windows.

- In crossings on the road you can see the ones who will die during the year walk in processions toward graveyards.

- Healing herbs picked during this night are said to have considerably better effect that those picked on other occasions.

- It's said that buried treasures of old rise from the earth only to be visible at during this night.

- It's also said that the future allows itself to be seen during this night. There are various ways of telling it: Flowers under the pillow, Going to bed thirsty, and looking into a tarn at midnight, are some of the most common ones.

However, there is one thing that breaks the spell of Midsummer: Spoken words. During the midnight hour you can not utter even one word, or your connection to the magic world will be lost.

Wind Weavers often practise their spells during this night. Spells are easier to cast and are much more powerful during this night, making even low-level Wind Weavers seem powerful. However, the more experienced Wind Weavers stay clear from using their powers during this night, as the magic winds seem to have a will of their own, and are very unpredicable.

And as always, your characters don't have to know all this information, but parts of it perhaps?
