Between historical levels of work shenanigans being a disruption last time and now losing yet another member on the team here in the office, I can't volunteer in good conscience. I just can't guarantee I'll have the time and energy to keep up enough to play a leader for this one.

If someone else wants to step up, best of luck to you.

Well, we are down to either me, jaydude jaydude or Mirgris Mirgris to be our new player character squad leader, or we are going to see Springer as our new lead. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Well, I don't mind taking up the leadership role, if no-one else wants it.

Did you guys hear that strange sound?

It sounded like the forces that govern the cosmos plotting our downfall. Weird...

I regret to inform you that all of Psychie's characters in my game will suffer a horrible death for that 'I'm funny and Sherwood is not' comment.

Seriously, we can hand wave jaydude jaydude having the squad in his control from the beginning.

Aww, Sherwood! I was just kidding! You are a punny guy, and we all love your jokes! Right, guys?
If you really mean that, then I think you should redeem yourself by listing off a series of puns and dad jokes to show that you have really changed.

Wow. A lot of stuff happened while I was asleep.

That said, I'll see if I can get a post up today.

If you do, and our Veritechs link up, I can say that our boss is riding my ass! Ha! Since you are behind me, in your Beta. Funny, right?
Heh. Getting flashbacks to MGS: Peace Walker here.

"Game" or "games"?

"Well looks like executing order 66 might be easier than we thought if they are just gonna escort us in like that. You still got eyes on our little guide?"

That line did get me thinking about how well the Star Wars franchise might have done if the "real world" became a sci-fi one during or after the time of the prequels. I mean, Alan Moore had superhero comics fail to take off in the world of Watchmen due to the presence of real-life costumed heroes...

It's certainly an interesting thought. For this universe, I'd have to imagine the appeal would solely be around space wizards having laser sword fights rather than the actual sci-fi backdrop. That's certainly what drew me in as a kid, since the prequels were just starting to release when I was relatively little.

I'd wager the genre became popular some years after things became sci-fi, playing on the reality of recent past. Like how westerns and gangster movies were popular in their time, but then lost popularity as nostalgia waned. With most sci-fi shows now seen as hokey and for old people who "want to relive their glory days of tv" and are now considered a niche genre that the larger populus tends to overlook. And the sci-fi genre as a whole changing drastically, like how the mid-1900s space movies changed significantly compared to modern sci-fi as more is known and different more scientific themes pushed to the forefront. Like in modern,, Replacing "moon people and martial invasions" and instead focusing on things like AI and cloning and simulations.

So Robotech sci-fi genre would probably focus on technology that is ahead of what they are capable of, rather than the reality they are currently living in. With a show like star wars likely being considered something like an exaggerated alternate reality if made in modern robotech. Likely Hunger Games or other such sideways reality movies kind of thing.

Personally, I think it would be cool to see what happens if we were to take it alive, despite the fun of blowing things up. But jaydude jaydude is the squad leader, and if you want us to blow it to bits, I'll gladly accommodate!

I say we destroy the brain. As I recall, our objective was to take out the Hive, and I really don't see how we can capture the brain. Unless it's possible to rip the thing out and then carry it away.

Well, ripping brains from the life support vessel tends to end badly for the brain.

Thus I shall launch lots of missiles.
