Ushi hated travelling along the backroads, worn paths, overgrown shrubbery and little plants that liked to bite his ankles. It scathed across the bare flesh and Ushi admitted once more, adventuring across China's lush greenery was simply, put, damn all to the Water Dragon. He kicked his boots, strapped up, buckles that were slowly being eroded by the use of his pushing trials and continued his way down, plodding through the mood and little puddles of water. A bow was strapped across his back, in addition to the quiver, pressed into his shoulder blades, shoddy leather that was unforgiving on his cheap coin. Scratching his fingers, Ushi was close to the Li Province. Little pickets of farms and animals, whirring into the air with an incessant string that Ushi was half-tempted to have some practice. Patches of rice and fields that stretched before the land, ingressing through the thick mighty walls of stone— the one thing that stood apart in this flourishing paradise of vegetation and animals. The Empire was notorious for spending large amounts on protection and one of the more vital areas to thrive. There was little that the Empire was willing to do to save them— he suspected that farmers were merely something to be bargained but the very state of the land was an entirely different affair. Only second to the governors family that were ones distributing that protection.

As much as he loathed politics [he truly did], there was sadly something far more distressing than Ushi was willing to admit to anyone. Visions— madness bleeding into his eyes and dreams, images, contorted on the horizon of an ancient power that was something he was just beginning to taste. It was beckoning him to this place, again and again, he saw the Li Province, etched into his living life that he couldn't justify how. Ushi had visited before, gazing upon the wares, the colourful editions of cowhide and an assortment of items, dealing with leather. A secondary trade, amassed for the more "stable," those that had a profession. That wasn't any different, skirting his way in, a little cluster of stalls and an open-market, decorated with colourful cloths and wooden, makeshift countertops that did the justice of the farmer's hand, woodwork you'd only ever see from someone who was vigorously in tune with such craftsmanship. The archer batted one such cloth away from his eyes, marching to the centre, a slow ring of steps that muted, a deadly sort of quiet that complimented someone who was trained in such ways. He ignored the bellows and shouts of those gathering behind him.

The Governor was the only one worth seeing, [to his visions yes] and was carrying a sort of hope that this shit would end. It was all jumbled, pieces, flashes of imagery that he understood and others, foreign in his own head. He knew of the governor but didn't know the governor— only painted with rumours and idle gossip, all that made up his canvas on what to expect from barging into the cosy home of one such man. Now, the greater good might drive a hero on, but the archer was viciously neglecting all of that.

No. Annoyance is what tinged in his peripheral.

He smacked his palms against the doors, a violent push, stepping through the bundle of guards and shocked gasps of servants. It was dramatic, with a swish of black hair and twitching eyes. "Stop right there!" One guard shouted, whipping in front of Ushi, hands, gliding towards the sword on his hip.

"I've had a long day, tiresome day. I just need to see your boss, and I can die in a drunken pit, k?" Ushi responded with a lick of politeness, respect tugging at his words with a lean smile. The guard didn't budge, fingers, tightening even more with the sullen introduction, and a warning that was spearing through the group, coming to back up the first whelp that had spoken out. Now, there might be a little amusement to flexing out his skills against a group that was barely fresh out from the river, faces, that suggested youth and an expendability that was making him smile all the more. But today was neither one of those days.

"Last chance, I am here to see one man and the rest of you re just collateral." He retorted once again, holding one hand behind his back and his other hand, experimentally pulling his mana towards him ; a collection of Chi that was strong, potent, less than that of a skilled Elementalist but as an Arcane Archer, he was positively ruthless.

News from the capital was all anyone could talk about, even way out here in LI Province where they got the news late and usually didn't care for went on outside their borders. This was different though, unsettling and groundbreaking at the same time. The Emperor for whatever reason had chosen to slay the Guardian of The Veil, the thin barrier which divided the world of mortals and spirits. Now for the first time ever, the spirit world was visible to the eyes of man. Hanging over their heads like a natural part of their world, islands floating with the clouds and rivers that seemed endless pouring down and reshaping the terrain. Then there were the spirits and creatures that littered the sky and now the ground, escaping whatever prisons once held them and wreaking havoc upon the world of mortals. Some were calling it the end of the world, but fire hand't started raining down on them yet, and there was possibly a way to fix what had be done.

Before that could happen however, humanity needed to ensure its safety during these very uncertain times. To that end, Governor Xiwang had set upon establishing a militia within the province and had been working tirelessly the past few days to set up patrol routes for the men and women, while also trying to defend the villages at the same time. Report after report came to his meeting hall, tales of burning homes, possessed loved ones, and nasty spirits roaming free. Xiwang was never one to shun his people or choose his own joy and comfort over his duty, but the endless parade of despair had worn him down and now he could only hope for a moment of peace to collect himself and rest his eyes.

Tucked away in a one of the rear gardens, Xiwang leaned back against a boulder, caressing every uncomfortable angle of the stone as his body relaxed against it. The sound of silence was like a lullaby to someone who had been deprived of sleep for at least four day now. brief naps between tasks was enough to keep him coherent, but not in a good mood.

When some lunatic barged into the meeting hall and began making demands, one of Governor Xiwang's advisors was able to sneak out the side door while the man was sizing up the guards.

"Governor! Come quick!" The man hollered with great fear in his voice.

At the sound of desperation, Xiwang was startled from his very light sleep and jumped up, struggling to find his balance. "Yes?! What is it?!" Emerging from the shrubbery in a hurry, Xiwang left his footwear and blade behind. He was nearly tackled by the shorter, older male but they both managed to dodge one another. "Is there more news from the outside?" Xiwang inquired, looking at the man with wide eyes, showing that his mind was barely holding on.

"Bandits! Bandits have infiltrated the estate!" His panicked voice became louder with every word and the ma was visibly shaking in his boots.

"A bandit?" The profession wasn't new to Xiwang, that was not what he failed to understand. What confused him was why someone would dare to continue such a lifestyle with all that was unfolding. Without another word, Xiwang turned away and headed inside, marching through the sliding doors and into the meeting hall. His eyes quickly scanned the large space, seeing the worried faces and the guards that stood ready to brawl. "The man before them didn't appear to be a low life bandit, but nothing was as it should be these days. :Fighting our own kind while the world falls apart around us?!" Xiwang raised his hand up and five icicles took form in the air around him, pointed at the strange man like arrows. "This is your only chance to turn around and change your plan of action."

Ushi grinned in the face of danger, oozed from the insides of his chaotic heart and sped up, pulling apart his lips with a vicious swing of impulse. Finally, the man of the hour appeared, the one that had been frequently visiting his dreams, idle thoughts, held together by a higher power that was never his and was never going to be. "Turning around isn't in the stars, fancy governor ass," That was never going to be the case, all the dreams was going to compile once more, until his boot stepped through the sliding doors and made contact. If the spirits wanted a more polite hero for the job, don't enlist ex-military and a man with nothing to lose, as he slipped his fingers over the base of his bow. It wasn't yet branded though, but if patience was a small thing, that better to be prepared to face the curve of the isicles.

Xiwang did seem every inch of the regal and stuck up noble, based on the impressions on what he saw and was now seeing now. It matched up, egregiously to every detail and maybe emphasised in the realism, accentuated by his current standing. "The spirits would like a word with you,"

All men in the room were gaping at the revelation, equal parts on how a man such as him was the representative of the spirits and the overall claim was ridiculous. Stagnant air that didn't have anywhere to drift too, mixed with exhales and inhales, albeit favouring that Ushi was lying. The water dragon perished, yes— but the veil between the realms was pulled back, contact was real and Ushi had witnessed firsthand on the depraved power that was swimming around in his head.

He was a man who preferred his own body autonomy but even that was conflicted, what was his own and what wasn't.

"Let's say just I have been possessed by something, that something wants to speak with you and using my body as a free horse ride."

He nodded, his neck bobbing with a firm swallow and the men backed up, shrinking back from the declaration of possession. Unfortunately, that was now common, with the undead spirits possessing the mortal, and 'alive' a chance at another life and lived through the humans still here, to do just that. The order had been destroyed, but some spirits, were vehemently against losing any hope, and knew the Empire was going to use each spirit until everyone perished. It wasn't a matter of balance, but survival, taking a handful of few to push back. "So yeah, I am not going to ask again," He hadn't proven his case, but Ushi didn't know too either, all this was just theoretical from his chapped lips, contrasted against worn clothes and a cloak, bunched over his shoulders.

If it were possible Xiwang's face would have fallen to the floor after hearing the intruder's initial response. Clearly he lacked intelligence so perhaps he truly was an idiot bandit, thinking this was the perfect time to start stealing from people. Did he think leaders would be leaving their stations? Was he hoping to find an empty court where all the important people had abandoned the treasury and all their belongings because of the spirits? Xiwang wanted to comment and call the man a name he probably wouldn't be able to spell let alone define, but before he could speak the idiot spoke again and this time about spirits.

"Possession?" It was news to Xiwang because so far no cases of possession had been reported in Li Province, not yet anyway. If spirits really were running around possessing people then the current state of the world posed an even greater threat than he and his advisors originally theorized. It wouldn't be as simple to fix this mess as they had hoped. Slowly the icicles that he had conjured began to dissipate, coming apart in thin strips of ice that melted away into the air.

"So a spirit has taken possession of you body and commanded that you come here to speak with me? Why?" As he posed his question, Xiwang waved his hand horizontally through the air and without further action from their master, his armed guard raised their weapons and the sound of their light armor resonated through the room as they moved to encircle the bandit. He had no idea what this man was brought here to do and right now he couldn't risk falling to some possessed archer. "If you're mission is one of peace then lay down your weapons and submit to being restrained. From there we can discuss your intentions and the desires of your leech."

A little jolt of dastardly pleasure had wound around his lips, at the sight of the poor governor breaking at the seams, well, seemingly so with the way that Ushi or rather, was currently speaking. It was like drinking a fresh cup of water, refreshing and cooling, to be the one responsible for a political figure struggling to come to terms with what was happening. It was petty, for such an expression to be summoned from his event, but yet— Ushi wasn't tugging his smile down, jutting up, as a hand snaked on tip of his hip, all the more relaxed in the face of the poor "noble," coming to terms with the real information he brought. "Possession, that's right," The conditions made his grin crack, suffered underneath the weight of being harmless, vulnerable but if he wasn't confident of the little stone he was perched upon. The request was met with a challenging gaze, making a show of undoing the quiver, the bow, rummaging around his back, unclasping strings and leather-like belts. It was gently brought to the ground, tucked neatly, a warrior still had care for his weaponry, no matter if you were exiled or remained.

"The spirit believes that you are the key to undoing what has been done,"

His voice was starting to scratch, blended against gravel and Ushi was quick to slam a hand against his chest, revelling in the pain that spread across his abdomen and shoulders, a centre. The damn spirit was getting too comfy in trying to take the reigns and the answer was formed from his own mental capability and the spirit leaking around the walls, slipping in through the tiny crevices and cracks, that his fortified will was falling helplessly too. It took some effort to for Ushi to stay at the front.

The guards encircling his body, that amped up some type of pressure in his soul, as Ushi grasped a hand against the ground. Any skilled sorceress could begin to feel the fluctuation, hightide energy that had been gaining insistence, "I-" Ushi grumbled, his voice torn and heavy, lungs, expanding air faster than anything in his life, almost like he had run miles. "You got your wish, the leech.... wants to take over."

Antiques, window shutters, tables, everything responded to Ushi — shaking, trembling slightly, but the force was clear, something was pushing out from his body.

What was coming?
