Age: 25

Race: Human

Affiliation: Only to himself, though he is currently on the pay-roll of the CIVIC director, which comes with some duties. He also has a history with the rebellion, but he severed all ties with them.

Gender: male

Sexuality: Bi, but he wants his relationships to be on a whole other level. Sex is just a pleasant byproduct.

Theme Song:

Appearance
Trystan has a tall (5'11") dancers build, slender with small shoulders, but lacks the muscles. His body is fragile, he breaks his bones on a regular basis and the slightest punches give him bruises. His immune system leaves much to be desired too. His skin is sickly pale and will burn immediately when he is walking in sunlight. The sharp cheekbones make him appear older than he is. He has dark symmetrical eyebrows (as you can see in the pictures) and appears to have heterochromia of the eyes, both are piercing light blue, but one is slightly darker. The right one is actually cybernetic and changes color based on the wavelengths Trystan wants to see. His lips are soft and a bit crooked when he smiles, which is not very often. They lack color. His hair is silverish blonde.[/COLOR]

Trystan wears a black eye patch most of the time to shield his cybernetic eye from overexposure. He is forced to wear a doctor's coat at work. Trystan hates it because it makes him look like a ghost, so he often tries to come up with reasons not to wear it. His own style style is a weird combination of gothic, stylish and simplistic. He often wears dark colors (black, blue, purple or green), which contrast his pale skin and white hair.

Birthplace: Cardiff, Wales, Earth

Profession: Advanced tactical practitioner and Ambulance Pilot

Cybernetics
His right eye looks and moves like a regular eye, but is actually cybernetic. It can see various wavelengths of radiation including (but not limited to): Infrared, Ultraviolet and Gamma radiation. On voice command he can change the wavelength it registers. It can receive these waves with corresponding receptors and transform it into an electrical signal for the brain. The receptors are one use only, so the eye needs refills whenever a kind of receptor storage is empty (which is why he wears an eye patch). You can find more limitations under character flaws. On top of that the eye can also record what it sees in images or movies (without sound). He can recall these fragments at any given moment using the same voice commands.

Character Skills/Flaws
Character Skills:

  • Major Skill 1: Surgeon. Trystan has a vast knowledge on human anatomy (and also a little on some alien species). He knows how to treat most wounds and is able to do so in very stressful situations. He uses his cybernetic eye to make an assessment of the wounds. Then he gathers all materials necessary and starts treating the wound in a calm and steady manner. On top of that, he specialized in treating people with physical manifestations of psionic powers. He knows the workings and treatments for common powers and can deduce treatments of lesser known powers.
  • Minor Skill 1: Resourceful. As a first aid surgeon it is very important to be flexible. Trystan can use whatever materials and circumstances at hand provide him. He can work his way around problems in unexpected ways. He is quick in associating and predicting possible outcomes of his makeshift instruments and actions.
  • Minor Skill 2: Observing. Trystan is very aware of his suroundings. With little effort he can assess situations and environments. He is often the first to spot threads and possibilities. A part of his brain is always busy scanning everything, from behavior to subtle changes in the area. He does not always use all this knowledge, but it is there when he needs it.
  • Minor Skill 3: Get-away Pilot. Trystan can steer various small vehicles. He isn't afraid of high speed. He can maneuver around many obstacles with his observing nature and fast reflexes. Combined with his resourcefulness he can get you out of most predicaments. He is most comfortable on his motorcycle or in the ambulance, but he is also capable in other transportation means of roughly the same size (one person capsule to small plane).

Character Flaws:
  • Disadvantage 1: An eye for an eye.
    • When his eyepatch is in place he can barely perceive distance.
    • The eye can run out of receptors. It has quite a large storage for the normal wavelengths, but special things like x-ray are one use only. Trystan is capable of making these receptors and refilling, but this takes a lot of time.
    • The receptors run out when used in the wrong situation (for instance nightvision with a lot of light). Also, due to the voice command it is very slow in addapting, so sudden changes also harm the receptors (for instance a sudden flash while using nightvision)
    • The eye does not emit any radiation. Percedures like seeing bone fractures using x-ray require an emiting source to be really clear. In most other situations there is too much noise to get a clear picture. However, in some situations these bad pictures have to make due.
  • Disadvantage 2: Low profile vs. pride. Trystan is on the run and therefore downplays most of his capabilities. He could have gotten a better job at the hospital, but he didn't want to risk the exposure. On the other hand, Trystan is proud of who he is and what he does. Sometimes he cannot keep himself from going all out. This is a constant internal conflict. However much he tones down his skills, he will always react bad towards critisism on his work.
  • Disadvantage 3: Last drop. Trystan's way of dealing with stress is keeping it away for a later moment, when the situation allows him to be unstable. Those moments of safety are quite rare, which means the stress keeps building up inside. Sometimes this becomes too much and floods his mind all at once. At those moments he is unable to think rationally and can be very unpredictional. It costs him a lot of energy and focus to do the tasks at hand, so he makes more mistakes or even fails to do them. Eventually he will get his focus and determination back, but it takes a lot of effort and time.
  • Disadvantage 4: Physique. His body is very fragile and prone to diseases. Trystan has to avoid taking a hit at all times, because it causes him much damage.
Personality
Fears: Fear of commitment (mainly betrayal and putting loved ones in harms way), being forced into actions against his own conscience again, being arrested for his crimes, his father and/or the rebellion finding him again

Optimism vs. Pessimism:
Trystan has a very pessimistic view of almost everything. He is the first to point out the many flaws and dangers of a situation. Sometimes these are blown out of proportion or not even there in the first place. However, while he loves to make a dramatic scene of it, he isn't one to wail in agony. Trystan thinks in solutions rather than problems. In most situations he is able to think his way around it or avoid the problems all together.

Introvert vs. Extrovert: Trystan is sociable, but very secretive. He is quite the conversationalist, especially in small talk. He is well-mannered and brings up interesting topics. On the other hand, whenever you get to personal, he will divert the conversation to a different topic. He never talks about his problems or past. Even people that consider him a friend know very little about him. Trystan himself currently has no people he considers friends. He refers to most of his contacts as acquaintances.

Justice vs. Mercy: Trystan has a strong will to be righteous, but only according to his own believes. He harshly judges everyone and everything around him and does not wrap his verdicts in nice words and compliments. It takes great effort to convince him to change his judgments. His sense of moral does not always align with that of the people around him. He is a defender of 'the ends justify the means'.

Feelings on the Union: They are idiots, but then again, so is every organisation. He hates their desperate attempts to keep humanity together and their violent tendencies. On the other hand, they have some positive influences like cohesion and humanitarian aid. Therefore he regards them as the lesser evil. Trystan believes that everyone could use his own judgement to better the world and that a collective law and organization is hindering this. He also believes everyone can change when they get the right help. Therefor he is ardent in his efforts to safe those in need.

Moreover, in a way he is running from them. He is hiding in plain sight. The rebellion forced him to aid in actions against the union. Trystan doesn't know whether they are onto him, but he is always alert to signals from them.

Common Mannerisms: Trystan always observes his surroundings, even when talking or working. His eye skittishly moves over the walls, windows, furniture and people. He observes to see possible threads coming and to analyze people’s behavior. This makes him appear absentminded to many people.

Trystan is bad in hiding his judgement. Through his body language and facial expressions it is very easy to see whether he likes people or not. His paranoia is also very evident most of the time, which might make you wonder what he has to hide.

Interests: Biology, Anatomy, Psionic powers, Psychology, Philosophy, Drama, Classical music, Vehicles, Competition, Simplistic Design

Hobies: Trystan loves reading, both scientific papers and ancient literature (mostly drama). He is a sucker for paper, but cannot afford it. He also goes to activities related to his reading, like seminars, movies and plays.

He also loves driving his motorcycle He loves the thrill of speed and the wind blowing in his face. He does set a destination for his trips, but those are often just a good excuse to go riding. He often takes detours to get to wherever he needs to be.

Whatever time he has left between his work, learning and traversing, he spends playing classic board games. He loves tactical games like chess. Most of the time he plays against an AI, but occasionally he goes to a gathering to play against other fanatics.

Trystan's guilty pleasure are EVAs. He finds the weightlessness to be very soothing. The environment gives few incentives and helps him clear his mind. However, the occasion to have this serene experience is very rare as they are restricted to situations where it is inevitable. Sometimes his work brings him there to recover casualties of accidents outside the orbital platform. He secretly loves those moments, but does not get to enjoy much of it because he has to focus on saving the casualties.

Overall Personality:
Trystan has a well-functioning brain. He has an eye for details. When he is focused he can take in lots of information in a short amount of time. Trystan likes observing people and deducing their backgrounds or explaining/predicting their behavior. Over the years he became quite good in reading people’s faces and reading between the lines in conversation. He likes to unravel peoples identities and discovering their secrets and soft spots. He is also quite paranoid. He uses his observational skills to look for threads from both the Union and the rebellion. He covers his tracks as much as possible and makes sure he always knows an escape route. In some situations this can be the key to his survival. However, the thoughts and memories can be pretty overwhelming. Most thoughts are unrealistic or about the past (for instance counterfactual history). The huge amount of them can distract him from more urgent matters.

Fortunately, his determined nature keeps him focused most of the time. He loves competition, never backs down from a challenge and once he has set his mind on a certain goal he will not rest before he achieves it (even if the goal doesn't prove worthy anymore). He will use any means necessary to achieve his goals. On top of his already temperamental nature he also gets really angry when people don't acknowledge his achievements or have critique on the way he handles problems. He gets even more frustrated when he fails because things don't go the way he wanted them to. You better leave him alone when he is working on a problem, he will solve them eventually. When you’re in his way it will only go that much slower.

He can be a real gentleman, well-mannered and kind, but only if he wants to be. Trystan uses these charms to manipulate people, mostly for his own gain, but sometimes to help his friends. If his charms don’t work he will use more drastic measures. He is known to blackmail people with their secrets , exploiting their flaws and soft spots to get what he wants. His motto is: the end justifies the means. It’s better to stay out of his way when he has set his eyes on a certain goal.

As you might have guessed, Trystan has a bit of a superiority complex. He thinks his way is the most righteous and that others should follow his example. He doesn't like wasting time on you if he feels you're not worthy. He often points out flaws in others, which he thinks they should be thankful for. He values his manners, gracefulness and pride. It hurts when one of these things is being criticized or underappreciated. In other words, he is a self-righteous bastard.

You can prove your worth if you are able to change your habits and believes to become a better person. In general, he likes people with a strong will and determination. He comes up for people he believes are treated unfairly or deserve better. Once you've proven your worth to him he accepts you as a friend (or will try his very best to become your friend). His relations are very intense. He places your needs before his own and helps you grow to your best potential as a person. Being his friend does not mean that you’re safe for his criticism and dark thoughts, but at least he will try not to hurt your feelings too badly.
History
History
The Ravenscar family was an influential and wealthy family from Wales. Mortimer Lewis and Eleanor Lewis couldn’t keep their relationship a secret for long. People were delighted when the heard Eleanor was carrying a child. Their delight soon turned into fear when Trystan was born on Christmas eve, a full month early. Both mother and baby barely survived. They were both severely weakened ever after.

Trystan doesn’t remember much of the first years of his life, but he always gets a warm feeling when he tries to. A feeling that would become more and more rare over the years to follow. When Trystan was five his mother became pregnant again. Her body couldn’t handle another pregnancy and she became very sick. Mortimer desperately searched for a way to save his wife. He found his answer in the Bionic augmentation. They put in a lot of time, effort and even more money to improve her physique. However, when the waters broke, she still didn’t make it. However, they did manage to save the baby she was carrying and so Arian Ravenscar was born. Some of the improvements on Eleanor had also seeped into Arian through their shared blood system, but it wasn't enough. To keep the boy alive through the incubation time they had to implant even more augmentations.

Trystan and Arian were too young to understand, but Eleanor’s death completely broke Mortimer. Some sorrow manifests itself in depression, others in embitterment. Mortimer’s manifested itself in rage. He blamed everyone and everything for the death of his wife, especially the Union and their healthcare. Before he had already had some believes against the union, but his wife’s death triggered him to want revenge on the Union. He created the delusional thought that he could bring the Union down on his own. Or maybe not entirely on his own, as he had his sons to help his cause.

He immediately unsubscribed Trystan from the regular schooling system and started homeschooling him. Next to the usual math and language lessons he taught his son anti-union philosophies and history to show their malfunctioning. The rest of his time he dedicated to his cause, organizing rallies and spreading the word. Meanwhile he didn’t have much time to look after his other Arian. Trystan would have to care for him and quickly learned how to run a household. He had to do all chores to appear like a functioning family to the people around them.

When Trystan turned 12 his father became even more detached. His rallies did not have any success, except for that one time he was arrested and spent a night in a cell. The study was filled with pamphlets no one wanted to read. The money was quickly disappearing (which did offer Trystan opportunities to become better at math and more resourceful in the expenses). Why did his brother choose these desperate times to start displaying his Bionic Augmentations?

The Augmentations from his birth had grown with him through childhood. Over the years Arian developed super strength. In the beginning Trystant found it weird that his small brother could actually lift him. The powers really became apparent when his brother lifted the car to reach the ball that had rolled underneath. At first Trystan had tried to hide his brother’s powers, but his father found out eventually. According to Mortimer, it was time to move on to the next phase. If he couldn’t win over the hearts and minds of people … The fight would have to move from the philosophical plane to the physical plane, with his sons (or actually more Arian) as his weapons.

At this point Trystan already had a strong dislike in his father, which soon turned into hate. Where his own lessons were complemented with military battle tactics and flying lessons (according to Mortimer Trystan would have to be the mastermind and get-away lessons), he hired a harsh martial arts teacher for Arian. The childhood of the boys seized to exist. Trystan’s time was full with learning and reading, while Arian had fighting classes the whole day long. However, this also strengthened their bond. Trystan would patch up Arians wounds and bruises and Arian pressured his father to be less hard on Trystan.

Trystan was actually glad when the Tha’kar invaded earth. He fled Europe together with his father and brother. For a short while, they were a family just like any other. Hungry scared and a bit closer to each other. There was no time for horrible lessons or fighting classes. For the first time, it was just them. However, the dream was short-lived. They were relocated in Northern Russia, where his father came in contact with the rebellion. His father was delighted. Finally some people who understood him and his ideology. Trystan and Arian were not nearly as happy. The rebellion put a lot of pressure on Arian. The strength of Arian was not often seen, even in Bionically Augmented people. Therefore they could not afford to loose this valuable weapon. The boy had much more severe training programs than before. Together the brothers were sent on small missions to take out Union facilities. Arian as main weapon and Trystan as his pilot. Aside from these missions, they cut Trystan some slack, they had enough regular soldiers who were dedicated to the course. Trystan, who had picked up philosophy rather well had discovered that he strongly disagreed with both his father and the rebellion. He was determined to get out of there. The only thing that hold him back was Arian. He still patched up his brothers wounds, which had gotten more severe every day. The time that he had gained from the decreased pressure he put into learning about human anatomy and medical procedures, so that he could help his brother even better.

One day, his brother came back home unconscious. That was the last drop for Trystan, it was time to leave forever. He took his brother, stole one of the rebels vehicles and flew away. When they reached the edges of civilization (of the Union). They were immediately shot down from the sky. When Trystan woke up, he found himself in a hospital in Moscow. He had severe injuries and his right eye was missing. He couldn’t move and couldn’t speak. A doctor came around to tell him the state of his injuries and explained to him that his brother hadn’t made it. Trystan wanted to cry and shout his longs out, but he couldn’t. He could only lie down and think. And so he did, for 2 long months he was clustered to his hospital bed. Afterwards he would never be the same.

When he got out of the hospital he tried to get into a medical university, so that he could save others from the fate that had taken his brother from him. After a lot of failed attempts, calls with organizations for teenagers in need and meetings with social workers he finally got in a special program in New Seoul. They were willing to give him a chance despite his rebellious backgrounds. They believed that everyone with the proper mindset should get a chance to redeem himself. The years that followed were the best of his life.

When his studies approached the end, his father somehow made contact with him. He was very sorry for the loss of Arian and wanted Trystan to come back. The rebellion could use someone like Trystan. This felt so wrong to Trystan, that he snapped and gave a very emotional rage talk against his father. His father never contacted him ever since. The rebellion did. They wanted Trystan to do some missions in New Seoul, mostly liquidations and terrorist actions. Trystan refused every time, which only made the rebellion more persistent in their attempts. They blackmailed him and tried to get him dispelled from his study. With great effort Trystan managed to graduate before they managed to do it. Then he went to look for a way to escape the rebellion once more. He found that the Union was recruiting for the Orbital Platform. Trystan Applied and was accepted. He arrived at the platform a while ago. He is very afraid that the rebellion tracked him there or that they pulled through with their blackmailing and had ordered him to be arrested for the missions he did with his brother. Therefore he tries to keep a low profile.

Hi Felix, I'm liking your submission, but there are a few things that are contrary to the setting.
1. Psionics are not inherent powers. They are the result of surgery that is a proprietary secret of the UEF. There are psychological and social tests a subject has to go through to be eligible to undergo the surgery to become a psionic. Even then, the success rate from the surgery is still low, many subjected to the surgery do not survive. Either their body rejects the surgical adaptations or their mind fails to properly mesh with the Psionic Network and basically pulps itself. An alternative for Trystan's brother's augmentation is bionics or genetic manipulation. The UEF authorized research and development of genetic treatments and augmentations before the advent of advanced bionic and cybernetic enhancements as a means of improving the human condition.
2. Trystan's career is quite broad. A First Aid Surgeon? As a medical professional myself, I've never heard this term before. More accurate careers would be an Advanced Trauma Practitioner, Trauma Surgeon or, for a military role, Combat Medic. Combat medics are trained in battlefield triage and life-saving interventions and can train to even perform surgical interventions in a field hospital setting. Food for thought.

The way I meant it was that Arian was inside his mothers belly when she went through the treatment. He was also hooked up to the network, but did not develop psionic powers before he turned 7. Is this possible within the current setup?

My apologies. When I translated what I had in mind directly to english I believed it didn't quite cover the load, so I came up with my own title.

I changed it to ATP, which is like an advanced paramedic that can deal in very stressful situations (and also qualifies for a military operation).

No, it's very precise surgery, brain surgery.

That's cool. :)

Excellent, once you've gone through your history and squared it all up with the bionic augments, I'll approve you.
