  • Ma_Chao_4_(ROTK13).jpg
    Name: Kuaidao (Quick Blade)
    Age: 22
    Caste: Dawn
Concept: Former member of the Legions/Scarlet Empire Defector
    Supernal: War
Limit trigger: The Solar sees innocents suffering, and is either unable or unwilling to help them.
Anima Banner: A pale-gold dragon with a red tint.

    Caste Effects:
    • At bonfire/iconic anima display, the Dawn adds half her Essence score (round up) to her base Initiative upon resetting to base after a successful decisive attack.
    • For 10 motes, all of the Dawn’s combat and movement Charms with outstanding reset conditions are automatically reset. This effect can only be used once per day, becoming available again at sunrise.
    • The Dawn Caste inspires terror in her foes. She adds half her Essence score (round up) in dice to all intimidating social influence. She may also intimidate targets which do not feel fear, such as automatons, golems, and certain undead.

    Backstory:
Kuaidao was born on the Blessed Isle, the fifth child of a wealthy patrician couple. Alongside his siblings, he slept comfortably and never went hungry, and learned horse-riding and armed combat as he grew up. Like his parents, his household staff and the majority of people he interacted with, he venerated the Scarlet Empress and the Dynasts even in spite of their elitist attitudes towards mortals, and followed the spirit of the Immaculate Philosophy in the hope of being reborn as a Dragon-blooded one day. He saw firsthand the corruption and cruelty of the Scarlet Empire, but at the time he considered them necessary evils.

Hoping to die in the name of the Scarlet Empress, and having few prospects at home as a mortal fifth son, he signed up with the Imperial Legions after he turned eighteen, shortly before the Empress's disappearance was revealed to the public. He continued his service in the legion and soon reached officer rank, predominantly seeing action in the Realm's northern satrapies and subsequently learning the local language, but he gradually started to become disillusioned with the Scarlet Empire from this point on. The Dynasts and their Great Houses were squabbling with each other in preparation for the inevitable civil war for the Scarlet Throne, and to this end they were starting to neglect and oppress the mortals under their dominion moreso than they had before.

For Kuaidao, the tipping point came when he and his men were sent to the North to put down an icewalker rebellion led by a man named Ulfric of the Redfurs. It turned out that Ulfric was actually a Zenith Caste Solar, who ambushed the Imperial forces and decimated them alongside his men. Kuaidao saw his men cut down all around him before he himself was face to face with Ulfric, who leveled a daiklave of orichalcum at him. Whether it was due to a veteran soldier's composure, resignation to the possibility of death, or a few leftover shreds of zealotry towards the Scarlet Empire, Kuaidao stood his ground and charged at Ulfric, ducking under the swing of the daiklave and slashing at his opponent's armor...

...and when his sword made contact, a great flash of light visible for miles around enveloped his entire body.

Kuaidao was unable to believe what was happening to him, a sentiment not helped by the martial and military knowledge of all his past incarnations suddenly flooding into his mind, and Ulfric took advantage of his distraction to knock him out. When he came to, Kuaidao found himself in a small cave with the Zenith, who explained everything. What he was, the truth about the Solars and the Sidereals, the Usurpation and the events leading up to it, and everything that had transpired afterwards. It took the newly exalted Solar time before he was able to believe what he was hearing, but by the time the Zenith was done talking, Kuaidao saw the world in a completely different light. The Bronze Faction Sidereals had taken the easy way out by destroying the Solar Deliberative, rather than try and reason with - or even manipulate - the wayward Solars. The Shogunate they installed in its place had been an insufficient replacement, as demonstrated by the mass death and destruction caused by the Great Contagion and the invasion of the Fair Folk. And that the Solars, now with the opportunity to learn from their mistakes and try again, could restore true peace, prosperity and justice to Creation.

Having convinced Kuaidao of the truth, Ulfric revealed his intention to take his men and join up with the Bull in the North, and offered to let Kuaidao travel with him. Kuaidao however was uncertain about joining the icewalker tribes after all the years he'd spent fighting them, and he was reluctant to travel with the man responsible for the deaths of several of his men. The Zenith accepted this with good grace, and left Kuaidao with a steel sword, a mammoth hide buff jacket, and enough provisions to get him back to the 'civilized' parts of the North. With that, the two Solars went their separate ways.

Knowing that the other Imperial survivors would see him as an Anathema, Kuaidao traveled to the Far North, where he found service as an officer in the Haslanti League, training and leading raiders against the icewalker tribes. Both were tasks that he excelled at due to his nature as a Dawn Caste, though he kept the truth of what he really was secret, lest he risk drawing the ire of the Wyld Hunt. Instead he was content to pose as a mere talented mortal, while keeping an ear out for any news of fellow Celestial Exalted.

At one point in his new career, he and his men fought a battle against a Raksha-led horde of hobgoblins. They prevailed, but Kuaidao was forced to display signs of his Solar nature in order to survive. After the fae survivors had retreated, he found a young woman with torn clothes, covered in blood and freezing to death. Though puzzled about her, and how she had ended up there, he nevertheless took her back to the city he was protecting at the time, without asking questions. Following his return, he learned that she was Maja Visby, a member of one of the Haslanti League's Seven Peerless Polar Explorer Dynasties, though at the time he did not realize that she had Exalted as one of the Chosen of Luna.

Though the city was willing to overlook his Solar nature and treat him as a hero, Kuaidao knew that this state of affairs would not last indefinitely, as news of battle would reach the Wyld Hunt sooner or later. When it did, and he later discovered Wyld Hunt agents trying to investigate him, Kuaidao left the city, and by extension the Haslanti League. He did not protest when Maja chose to follow him.

Mostly for the tails. The tails are great. Clothes and ears are nice, too.

  • 1621554468403.png Name: Valden Craig
    Caste: Night
    Age: 21
Totemic Anima: A raccoon reclines upon a throne of pilfered treasures rolling a coin wrought of sunlight across its fingers while watching onlookers from within a churning cosmos of starlight and darkness with an amused grin upon its face.
    Supernal Ability: Stealth
Limit Trigger: The Solar’s allies suffer a setback or defeat because of a mistake he made.

    History Overview
-Valden was raised to be an enforcer in the service of a crime family lead by a card-carrying merchant prince. The family had been in business for three generations, favored by a rising god in Great Forks. Aside from open trade in vices like tobacco or alcohol, the prince and his rivals waged war in darkness. Pillaging caravans, sabotaging properties, extortion, blackmail, and assassination were all part of a normal season for him and his brothers and sisters in the shadows.

-Various families and syndicates had formed into various factions over the years. Eventually, the gods within the alliance over Valden's prince grew envious of their peer deity. In their covetousness they plotted to supplant his dominion and take the additional power and authority for themselves. This upheaval entailed removing the god's servants first. So, various agents of allied families catered a holiday feast in line with the annual traditions they always kept. For Valden's party, however, the food and drink were laced with a subtle intoxicating poison, and the attendants fired upon with arrow and flame alike. In resisting the assault and numbing toxins, Valden Craig drew his second breath and eventually made an escape from behind the obfuscation of smoke. Under the cover of the hazy air and bright dancing flames, Valden methodically executed each assailant in the building to exact his vengeance.

-Valden left the party and headed north from the heart of the riverlands. With few of his friends or family left alive, he preferred news of his survival stay concealed. For now, he sought to know who and what he now was in truth, rather than what foreign sycophants would say at his execution.
