Powers:
Masters of transportation, Travelers have the ability to teleport themselves and at times objects or surroundings. Travelers can teleport themselves to any space within sight or any place they have visited before. They can also teleport any objects they are touching or, when masters of their powers, some of the immediate surroundings in a short radius. If a Traveler attempts to teleport to an unknown place, their abilities simply do not work. If they do not teleport to a safe, clear location and intersect with an object upon materialization, they can either become seriously injured. On rare occasions a Traveler has teleported to a specific spot with a large obstruction and died on arrival. More than a few Travelers have attempted to teleport to places they have never visited before, attempting to use book images and GPS coordinates to guide them, but they have simply vanished never to be seen again.

Powers on Other Psions:
Travelers can teleport other people they touch, but it is forbidden to do so if involuntary. Most psions rely on Travelers as a mean of transport and regard them highly. The Traveler school has established what they call the Traveler Network. Composed entirely of Travelers, it is a system to help track and record different locations Travelers have been and safe locations they have secured in each. When a new Traveler is welcomed to the school, or if a Traveler needs to visit a specific location foreign to them, they utilize the Traveler Network to be teleported by a Traveler that has been there before.

Relations with Other Schools:
Since Travelers help all the other schools travel, they are highly respected. That being said, they are fairly insular and do not spend a lot of time with any of the other schools. Preferences vary wildly from Traveler to Traveler as to which school(s) they view most positively and most negatively.

Stereotypes:
The stereotypical Traveler is irresponsible, solitary, possessed by wanderlust, and impulsive. The reality of this stereotype is that many Travelers do frequently live up to this stereotype when they are young and would rather experience the world than have relationships and families. This allure of this fades, however, as psions outside of Psydrium will not often shelter a wandering Traveler for long on goodwill alone. Additionally, the Traveler Network is composed of people who are active within the community; they will not ferry a Traveler possessed by wanderlust to new destinations every day purely out of generosity. Many Travelers settle down at some point and enjoy the best of both worlds: being able to go to international destinations on a weekend and still be home for the work week.

Common Professions:
Within Psydrium most Travelers offer transportation services for vacations, work, errands, and the like. Some are journalists, chefs, emergency services, and import/export professionals.

Traveler Specializations

  • Conductor: The conductor traveler specializes in transporting people (and occasionally animals) to distant locations. This is the most common type of specialization as it's convenient and creates an easy, steady income both in Psydrium and outside of it. Conductors can transport more people and farther distances than other travelers who lack their focus.
  • Shipper: Shipper travelers tend to be travelers that are less enthusiastic about constant interaction with people; instead, they teleport objects usually as a way of incredibly efficient shipping. This can be an especially lucrative endeavor depending on the connections a shipper traveler makes. While a conductor usually touches the people they are teleporting, a shipper rarely needs to do so and can teleport an object to them- or away from them- so long as it is within eyesight.
  • Pilot: The pilot traveler is defined by their focus on transporting areas with them, which is without question the most difficult sort of traveling that can be done. The practical applications for doing so include transporting portions of habitats to wildlife sanctuaries, transporting a portion of the ocean to aquariums, transporting a trapped/injured person with impeding objects without risking further damage, preserving arrangements (artistic and mundane) from one location to another, etc.
