The Broadsword's "E-suppressor."

The crystalline energy suppressor or simply "e-suppressor" is a hypercarbon-made crystalline-enhanced tube that soaks up sound and focuses energy at the mild cost of damage (-10% overall damage subtracted at the end of the damage equation including Critical Hits). The benefit is two-fold: the weapon makes almost no energy-based sound whatsoever (95% of the weapon's report is muffled. only the tiny sound of the trigger mechanism being operated can be heard. Sounds made by reloading are not affected). The amount of visible light leaving the barrel is reduced by 75% making it much more difficult for energy blasts or bolts to be tracked back to their source. While this cannot compare to a bullet flying through the air, observers must make a Perception check (DC 18) to see where the light is coming from (the GM is advised to note the many factors that might improve or decrease these chance from combat and weather conditions). A Perception check (DC 25) can be attempted to hear the suppressed energy blast (GM discretion).

Each e-suppressor is about the same size of a ballistic suppressor of the same type. An e-suppressor, though made of Mega-damage materials, can only take so much use before the crystals inside become in need of maintenance. This involves refitting and checking the e-suppressor for energy oversaturation and bleeding out the excess energy by setting the crystals outside the e-suppressor's housing. It must be checked after every day of regular combat use. Anyone with Field Munitions or Armorer Skills can perform this task - no roll required. This maintenance takes about 10 minutes for each device but extended use without maintenance oversaturates the crystals causing them falter and malfunction.

Upon approaching its limits, the insides of e-suppressor will quickly deteriorate. There will be 1-3 blasts where the light and sound will be noticeably more visible and louder (visual Perception checks reduced to DC 12, audio Perception checks reduced to DC 17). After this, the weapon and e-suppressor are in danger. Once the e-suppressor has reached its limits, the next pull of the trigger will result in a loud and horrible cracking sound (about as loud as a typical grenade exploding) signifying the permanent ruination of both the e-suppressor and the weapon's barrel, and thus the weapon until the barrel is replaced. A tiny crystalline gauge facing rearward informs the operator when the e-suppressor is at its limit and is unsafe to fire.
The e-suppressor has 3 M.D.C. if pistol-sized or 5 M.D.C. if rifle-sized.
