Velia sat with a book in her lap. Ink stained fingers methodically crossed out the text with thick black lines. She found the action soothing in a way that couldn't be named. It was creative destruction. The paragraphs and pages fell apart, leaving select words behind. It let her mind wander, while also focusing on something. It was a strange balance that she managed to maintain. It was funny, she knew exactly what she was going to do. Had been planning it out in the greatest detail for the past week or so. And yet, she was finding taking that first step difficult. Dol stood from where he was lazing by the window and plopped himself on her feet, drawing her from her circling thoughts. She looked at the canine, who stared up at her with big eyes. She set the book down and closed her sharpie. "Hey boy." She reached down and scratched his chest. She nudged him gently and stood to get his leash. Eagerly he followed her, tail thumping loudly against the walls. Velia hooked the leash to his collar and led him out of the building and into the streets.

Her eyes roamed over the people and streets they passed. Her mind turned over the plan. It wasn't anything personal, not really at least. She wouldn't say she was doing it for the greater good. There wasn't such a thing as a "greater good." It was just an excuse used to claim why one argument was better than another. No, she wouldn't claim anything she did was for the greater good. What she did, or what she planned to do, was simply for personal gain, for greed. There was no traumatic childhood, no evil scientist who had experimented on her, no misguided morals. Velia served herself, simple as that. She'd make sure that whoever stood beside her would prosper, and those against her would fall. It was simple. It was calculated. It was nearly perfect.

She turned down the sidewalk and entered the park. Despite the fall chill, the park was crowded. Musicians played above instrument cases, hungry for tips. Dol sniffed around as they walked, the crowds exciting him. Dol began pulling against his leash, she gave it a sharp tug in return. Not enough to hurt him, just enough to call him back to her side. His pace slowed and matched hers, his flank brushing her leg. If Velia was being honest, she hadn't really wanted a dog in the first place. He had showed up on her doorstep one night, starving and half dead. In a moment of uncharacteristic compassion, she took the dog. in. Now, she wasn't sure what she had done without him.

She pulled Dol to a stop. A crowd had gathered around a temporary stage. Someone vaguely important stood at a microphone addressing the crowd. She had little to no idea what was happening today, and she didn't particularly care. She was walking her dog, not listening to an overpaid gremlin. Velia paid the speaker no mind, her eyes scanning the crowd before landing on one particular person. Her gaze locked on Alex. Alex was, well, she wasn't too sure. She knew Alex, of course, it'd be weird to not know your roommate at least a little. What her relationship with Alex was, she wasn't too sure. Velia wasn't good with relationships, of any sort. Hell, she wasn't even sure why Dol liked her. She knew her flaws too well to think she had any capability to truly care about another person. Gently, she wove through the crowd and stood beside Alex. "Hey." Dol nudged his head into the other woman's hand.
