rockin' around the 🎄 tree.

yvette failed miserably at getting enough sleep last night to prepare herself for today. butterflies were having a free-for-all in her stomach at the thought of knowing that she would get to see her internet friends for the very first time. the covington house she was staying in for the past few weeks wouldn't be so quiet anymore tonight. she wouldn't be spending hours alternating from the living room to her room, eating a home-cooked meal by herself. and the sounds of her own two feet echoing off the walls as she took her steps around the house wouldn't be the only pair she would be hearing either. all of that was enough to keep her nerves spiked. and bursting with joy was an understatement knowing that.

friday morning, specifically 8AM sharp, yvette was already up and eating breakfast to prepare herself mentally for all the excitement. her leg was going a thousand miles an hour, the sounds of her knee-high high heels clicking against the tiled floor at the repetitive motion. she needed some kind of outlet to let the anxiety go--the hours were swinging by fast. 8..9..10..11..11:30.. oh god, slow down. soon enough, yvette found herself locking up the house on her way out of the door and making her way over to the airport. all of her friends should've been spilling out of the crowd by 12PM, and she didn't want anyone to feel overwhelmed. covington was quite the crowd during holiday seasons and the airport would be the heart of the traffic.

——— ୨୧ ———

the young woman had managed to snake her way through the crowd of people, holding their luggage close to their bodies as they met with their family members and shared their hugs. it was a beautiful sight to see when you weren't stuck in the middle of the reunion. and luckily, yvette somehow managed to make her way out of it. a few "excuse mes" and a couple of "sorrys" later, and she was now standing in a clearing for her friends to find her. with her arms crossed over her chest and one leg over the other, yvette stood calmly, occasionally throwing smiles over at the families making her way past her while also trying to find a familiar looking face in the chaos.

After spending the last five hours trying and failing to fall asleep on the plane Wes shook his leg nervously as it finally arrived at the gate, watching the other passengers impatiently jumping up and prepare to deplane. He waited a little longer than the rest of them, not moving from his seat until the aisles began to clear so he didn't quite feel so claustrophobic as he pulled his bag from the overhead bin. It was his only bag, he didn't exactly have a lot of stuff, mostly clothes really and a few other assorted things. In truth he was waiting to see if this whole roommates thing would actually work before moving his whole life out to California. If it did he could always have his mother and sister ship him anything else he needed from home, if he even did decide he needed it after all. Maybe it was better to just start completely over and buy new things that didn't have the essence of all his mistakes lingering on them like campfire smoke clinging to hair and clothes.

He began his way through the airport, his duffle bag slung over his shoulder. It was hard to not feel a little bit stared at, maybe it was just his own personal paranoia but it could also do with the fact that he was one of the only people in the building wearing a mask. Sure it had been two years and all the covid restrictions had been lifted in pretty much every state as many declared the pandemic 'over', but he still didn't feel comfortable venturing out of the house, or in this case, venturing to the house, without one. It still seemed like pretty much every other day he was hearing about a new variant popping up. With the state his lungs and heart were in he couldn't afford the risk. Wes had had enough of hospitals and treatment for quite a while so he'd be doing all he could to avoid going back for any reason.

Hopefully it wouldn't be too much of a problem with his friends, they had been understanding of his various quirks so far. They had been all too polite when he had messaged them to inform them of the fact that he would be going back into treatment this past summer. He wondered if they would extend the same grace when and if he decided to tell them the unedited truth. His jaw tensed at the thought, he didn't need to think about that just yet, for now he needed to focus on locating Yvette among the crowd of humans moving through the airport. This would be good, that was what he kept telling himself anyways, this would be good.

Washington State was a neighbor to California, but it was just far enough away to warrant a flight. Even if it hadn’t been, it wouldn’t have mattered—Juniper didn’t have a car; her old hometown had been tightly-knit, and she’d walked nearly everywhere she’d gone, but a bus had always been available for when she couldn’t. This was different, though. Being crammed into a flying, metal death trap with two crying babies and an old man sitting uncomfortably close so as to hog the arm rest was enough to remind her why she’d never done something like this before.

The hardest part was finally over—Junie hoped so, anyway, because as much as she tried to tell herself things would be smooth sailing from here on out, she still had the small matter of meeting her friends for the first time. What if they don’t like me? she wondered. It was the same, nagging fear that had almost kept her in Washington for many weeks leading up to this moment. It did no use to worry about it now, though—June was in Covington at long last, and if she’d come all this way, there was no backing out. Not in this economy.

Lost in thought, Juniper missed the opportunity to grab her last bag—the same one that had evaded her the first time—off of the luggage carousel. She’d already grabbed her suitcase, but her duffel bag seemed to be making a game of things as it once again vanished from view. Junie nervously fiddled with the straps of her backpack as she awaited its return.

The airport was swarming with people—that’s how that damn duffel bag had escaped June the first time. Someone had knocked her suitcase over in their haste to retrieve their own belongings, even going so far as to nudge it out of the way like a petulant dog, and after Junie had righted it again, she turned around only for her other bag to be nowhere in sight. Now, though, she was grateful that most of the people from her flight had gradually trickled away to roam other areas of the large space, leaving only a few other unfortunate stragglers with her.

Third time’s the charm. Juniper at last succeeded in snatching her duffel bag from the conveyer belt—perhaps a little too eagerly, in hindsight—and stacked it on top of her suitcase, wrapping its handles around her luggage’s. As put-together as she could muster, June took a deep breath and set out through the airport in search of her friends, which was easier said than done, she found, as she scanned the surging crowd of people for so much as a glimpse of a familiar face, her height advantage doing seemingly nothing in her favor.

There was a sudden jostle to Junie’s right. “O-oh, I’m sorry,” she said, turning around only to be met with a familiar mop of pink hair. “Ami?” Juniper asked, her voice coming out more timidly than she would’ve liked—it almost seemed too good to be true to have stumbled upon a friend so easily, and she assumed her eyes had to have been betraying her.

Alexander Evans
Today, Alexander would be leaving his lovely studio apartment in Los Angeles to join his internet friends in Covington. It was a quick change of plans due to COVID and Alex not being able to attend FIDM anymore, it best suited him to move in with them. He had a long drive ahead of him so when his alarm rang at 9:00 AM, he was up and kicking, ready to get this day started. But before he could do that, he needed some breakfast before he set out for this 2-hour long drive. After swiftly cooking up some eggs and grits, Alex poured some coffee into a to-go cup and loaded up his old Honda Civic with all of his belongings, and hit the road. He already knew the traffic would be heavy since it was the holiday season but he had to do what he had to do. He reversed out of the parking garage of his apartment complex and gave the old brick building one more look in his rearview mirror as he set off to start his new life.

Traffic was hell all the way to the airport. It also sucked because he didn't need to be at the airport since he didn't fly in but it made sense because that's where they'd all be meeting. Nonetheless, Alex made it to the airport and parked with only 3 minutes to spare. He rushed into the airport, taken back at the swarms and swarms of families hugging, chatting, and reuniting with each other for the holidays. Christmas is Alex's 2nd favorite holiday because it just warms his heart and makes him feel good to see all these happy people. Christmas is just a different vibe from every other major holiday. The snow, decorated houses, carolers, hot cocoa, Christmas presents, and everything else is what brings him happiness, and now to share this with his new friends, it was going to be amazing.

After slipping past tons of people, Alex could feel his palms getting sweaty, his heart racing, and butterflies in his stomach. His mind was swarmed with different outcomes of this meetup. Would they think he's weird? Maybe think he is not as attractive as he looked online? Would they make fun of his style even though he knows he has taste? So many different questions and so little time. He wiped his sweaty palms on his pants and took a deep breath. Calm down Alex, everything is going to be alright. Why would anything go wrong, huh? Finally, in the distance, he recognized a familiar face, Yvette. The planner of all this and honestly a really sweet and caring person. His mood went from fully nervous to half nervous at the sight of Yvette and he sped walked over to Yvette, he was smiling from ear to ear as he greeted her.

It was a tearful goodbye with her father, to say the least. One thing Andi felt most comfortable boasting about was her father's sensitivity. It had always made her feel less alone in the world, particularly when her mother thought she was being dramatic. Andi and her father had always been close, of course, but after her mother had left they'd become sort of codependent, relying on the other for company. Naturally, their closeness only grew over the course of the pandemic, after being trapped inside together for such a long time.

It was time, of course, for Andi to leave the nest and go be on her own. She knew that, and he knew that, but the hugs stayed long, their eyes stayed wet, and their hearts weighed heavy. Andi's mother was taking it exceptionally well, of course. The demigorgon with no feelings. In fact, she seemed rather impatient as Andi and her father were saying their goodbyes, as if she felt it all should be over and done with already. After all, the pandemic gave Andi a bit of a cushion- she should have been out on her own much sooner than that.

Overall, her mother's attitude didn't seem to cloud Andi's excitement. Because, despite whatever heartbreak she harbored about leaving her father behind, she really was thrilled for this experience. Living with the people she had come to think of as her closest friends? Constantly having a support system? It sounded like absolute heaven.

Finally, with one more shared burst of emotion with her father, Andi left to board her plane.

︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵

It wasn't a long flight from Albuquerque to Covington, and Andi had brought more than enough to keep her occupied: books, games, a journal. She didn't do any of that, however, and found herself staring out the plane window merely anticipating the events that were to come. She hadn't realized she'd had so many thoughts and feelings about it until until now that she was forced to sit and be alone with her thoughts. But it was certainly enough to keep her mind fully engaged until the plane touched down at the airport in Covington, California.

As the other passengers began their departure from the plane, Andi took a moment to close her eyes, regulate her breathing, and count backwards from ten. She could feel her cortisol levels spiking and doing an odd little dance with her adrenaline, and it was almost enough to make her vomit. She held her composure though, just barely, forcing herself to breathe instead of hyperventilating. It was all going to be fine- besides, there was no going back on it now. Time to get off the plane and face the music.

As ready as she was ever going to be, Andi departed her plane, carry-on luggage in tow.

︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵

It took her a moment to gather her things. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't keeping an eye out for her friends. Most specifically, Saturday. The two had met and been friends in middle school. She hadn't seen him since the were thirteen and she was aching to see him again. It wasn't Saturday that she spied first- but that didn't mean she wasn't absolutely thrilled about who she did see. "Alex! Oh my god hi!" Andi knew she had squealed, and she didn't care. Without hesitation she ran towards her friend and flung herself at him, throwing her arms around him in a show of affection. "Oh, it's so good to see you!" It was then that she took in the area around him and saw Yvette. "Evie! Ohmygosh hi!" And as quickly as she had attached herself to Alex, she detached from him and moved to wrap her arms around Evie. "Gosh! You look so gorgeous! Ahh! I'm so excited this is finally happening!"

Nathan always carried a tenseness to him. It was in the line of his shoulders. The rigid way he stood, as though he were ready to bolt at any second. He just needed a reason. Currently, however, he felt immensely light.

Perhaps it was his new freedom. He had been on his own at university, but his parents were only an hour away. They could still hover. Now he was practically loose as a noodle as he walked through the busy airport. Sure, the crowd was annoying and the noise was making his head swim, but he kept his eyes straight ahead, forcing his anxiety to stay down. His excitement was probably keeping his stimulation issues under control for the moment. But man, he was tired already.

Nate kept checking his phone, scrolling through the past messages between him and his friends. He smiled. Technically, they would be his roommates soon. His imagination started to wander as he thought about all the cool things they were going to do together. Friends. Real friends. He would gladly go through the harrowing ordeal of flying again if it meant he could have that.

He packed relatively light. Just a book bag and a medium suitcase. Once he got settled, he would give his parents the address to the house so they could ship the things he couldn't bring over with him. Namely his PC things. He'd be itching to get his setup going ASAP.

Nate allowed his gaze to deter from the straight path they'd had towards the exit gate where Yvette had told everyone she would be waiting. Yvette was wonderful, Nathan thought. She was always so nice when she talked with him and the others. The decision to cross the country was made slightly easier knowing she would be there to help him adjust to such a new environment. Nate let his thoughts continue swirling with good things when he was a familiar figure walking in the crowd. He nearly got knocked into when he stopped dead with a gasp, his whole body thrumming with sudden thrill and nervousness.

It was Wes! Really Wes! A real-life person who was his friend! Neat!

Before he realized it, Nathan was rushing towards him, avoiding bodies as he moved through them. "Wes!" He called out, waving a little as he approached with a small smile, self-conscious. He hoped his smile seemed genuine. "It's me. Nathan. Nate. You probably already know that....". Nice. Real smooth there Nate. He cringed at himself. "It's uh, really, really nice to finally meet in person!" He tried again, trying to appear more vibrant.

Amidea November Lance
Interacting: Juniper ( lvcid lvcid )
Wearing: Bimbocore
Location: Airport
Mood: Excited

Amidea had never left Ohio. At least, not long-term. Growing up, they would spend summers in Florida or some other place equally sunny and during the holidays, they would spend it ferried around to various houses all made up and pretty. So of course they had been on a plane before. In fact, before everything started going down the drain with their parents, they were easily accustomed to first class. Ami would say flying way back in economy, sandwiched between some guy in a suit and a heavily pregnant woman was a culture shock, but not much shocked Ami anymore. At least, not since the family of rats in their first apartment. Talk about ratatouille.

The flight was long. Ten hours of inflight movies, listening to Vienna (the pregnant woman) talk about her husband and their baby, and side-eying the suit-man everytime he ordered more alcohol and sighed at his laptop. At least there was no kicking children, just the occasional baby crying softly a few rows up ahead. But over the sound of the engines, it was barely noticeable. Ami chewed through an entire pack of gum.

Ami was excited, if they were honest. It'd been a long time in the works, but the day was finally here that they were moving in with their longtime online friends. They'd already sent over most of their clothes and belongings. At least, what little they had. The clothes had taken up most of the boxes and their nail kit and tools had been runner up. They hoped nothing had broken or spilled. All they had on them was the essentials for now. A pink carryon and a matching pink suitcase down below. Never say Amidea Lance wasn't put together.

Getting off the plane was a rather simple affair. Ami waved goodbye to Vienna and gave one last side-eye to suit-man. They let the hot flight attendant get their bag down and then they were off the plane, searching for the baggage claim that would have their suitcase on it. They were quick to the baggage carousel, heels clicking on the linoleum and echoing among the voices and footsteps of others. They were quick to pick up their bright pink bag as soon as they spotted it, settling the purse-like carryon over their shoulder and dragging the suitcase behind them. They were also quick to bump into someone.

"O-oh, I'm sorry," Ami heard as they were nearly tumbled over. "Ami?" They looked up at the tentative sound of their name, surprised to see none other than Juniper. Almost immediately, Ami's face lit up brighter than the sparkle lights all around the airport. No way. Juniper was here already?? Ami was silent in their excitement but it didn't in anyway make their excitement less palpable. Hopping up an down on their toes, they opened their arms, inviting Juni for a hug.

Saturday's parents insisted on mailing the majority of his belongings rather than lugging a bunch of stuff on the plane. And he’d been too consumed with his upcoming trip to really bother arguing otherwise. The less stuff he had, the quicker he could get where he was going; his friends.

With Convington only being a 4 hour flight away from Minneapolis, Saturday's journey had been more anticipation than anything.

From the start of his day, everything had been simple. He had an early breakfast, caught his 8am flight (so as to arrive at the same time as everyone else), no delays. He read the chat as it began to fill with departure and arrival texts, before adding his own to the thread. Got a nice view of the world from his window seat, and even managed a short nap to ease his fatigue before his body woke him back up from the anticipation of arriving in California.

The people he’d chosen as his friends were just a few minutes away and despite all the change and anxiety this last year, he was thrilled to move forward with this group. Hopefully they could say the same about him.

Getting off the plane and through the airport was much more of a hassle than getting on. Saturday only had his carry on and personal item and yet he still ended up being one of the last people to exit. And God, don't even mention the foot traffic. He'd never had to duck and weave through so many people just to avoid physical contact. But all of that was disregarded once he instantly recognized one of his favorite people, alerting him to the site of some of his other friends with her.

Saturday was moving before he realized it, rushing over with a bright

“Guys! You're here!” His eyes were scanning the faces of Yvette and Alex, taking them in for the first time in person. Wow, they were much more attractive and intimidating like this… “Holy shit we're here. Have any of the others arrived?”

Saturday decided to curb that particular train of thought for the more pressing matter of turning to face his best friend (his favorite person, of course) and hugging her tightly.
“Dude, it's been so long. You're basically a whole new person.” He pulls back and smiles at Andi much like a puppy, before addressing his thoughts back to the full group.

“I assume we're waiting for everyone else, but what are we doing after? We've got a whole day, and I actually want to go drinking tonight.”
