Darcy Morel was a gifted scout for the Albino Tigers, helping in reconnaissance missions against the rivaling gangs and occasionally delving deeper as a spy. The riskier the missions, the higher the pay. She wanted nothing more than to rise up in the world; to become a proper, elegant lady that people would respect. Having grown up in a family robbed of their savings via gambling, sworn to work for the Tigers to pay off their debt, it wasn't too much to wish for.
She'd never killed anyone, going under the impression that her line of work put her out of that path's way. She had her own circle of close friends within the Tigers, all working for the same thing. To the gang, Darcy was just another expendable troop to use and throw away. She persevered, though, constantly thinking 'Just you wait and see.'
During a mission into the Eastern District, however, she couldn't have accounted for one thing to go awry.
The Dragons caught her by complete surprise as she was meeting with a brothel worker—an unwilling employee made an informant by Darcy. She would dress as a man and request service with her, leading to a room with only their ears. That's how it used to be, before the Dragons caught on and threatened the worker to capture the Tiger.
The informant was brought away, never to be seen by Darcy again. As for Darcy? She was young and lean; blonde, unblemished, and fit. They forced her into work at one of the district's bustling brothels. Solely because that the people handling her arrest—frequent visitors there—lied about her attempts at 'assaulting' men in the area, going as far as to fabricating reports.
In just one day, Darcy sunk lower than ever before.
But she did not give up.
Darcy quickly memorized the brothel's schedule, the working days of herself and her new peers, and the guards. She steeled herself for each client, refusing to break under the Dragons' obsession with control. Security was still high, as her arrest was still a recent thing. So, she took on a twisted long game to ultimately free herself... but the price of which, she couldn't bare to think about.
At the start of a week of work, she did not take the pill.
A few months later, and Darcy showed signs of pregnancy. The brothel employees scrambled to arrange things for her, although assigning guards to assure the captured Tiger that she was still in their grasp. For the time being, she was retired from brothel work and sent to a maternity ward. The security there expanded after her arrival, appearing around the corners and around the perimeter. But ultimately, with the other citizens filling the building, a less secure area.
Several months passed, and Alicia was born. Darcy felt a rush of both fear and love at the sight of the newborn.
It took many more weeks for her to recover from giving birth—during which, she prepared her escape. Everything was going smoothly: over what was almost a year, the security around her lessened; the pregnancy brought her to a less secure area; she was free of forced brothel work in that period of time. All she had to do was cut open the window with the diamond ring she'd convinced the old nurse to give, and then use the rope of linen gathered over the course of dozens of weeks. But, she couldn't go through with it. Alicia's face kept appearing fresh in her mind.
Ultimately, she left the diamond ring in the old nurse's office.
Over the next four years, Darcy returned to brothel work for the sake of money to support her child. Carrying a newborn during a flee from a district marked suicide for the both of them; she needed to be able to walk and run if they were to head back to greener pastures. A city where order wasn't something to be harshly enforced, invading privacy for the sake of "protection."
As a result of this hope, Darcy never taught Alicia much outside of basic education; she kept her sheltered from the horrors of the world, and just what she forced herself to go through for each of their sakes. And, spurred by her lifelong dream of becoming a proper lady of wealth, played the typical noble games with her daughter, most commonly holding tea parties. These days were the only times Darcy would feel like she was where she needed to be; a blind facade to mask the reality.
But all things culminate to an end, eventually. At the age of four, Alicia was left at home with only their important items stashed in a small bag. Her mother told her that they were moving, soon, and they needed to go as quickly as possible.
Over at the brothel, Darcy stabbed a guard deep in the chest, fleeing through the back exit without anyone to take notice of her. An explosion erupted the building, sending all the guards and Dragons in the area to investigate. She'd acquired a small bottle of nitrogen from one of her returning clients: a lab assistant who she convinced to help her. Mixing with a few chemicals and some set up, and she created a timed explosive.
Darcy returned home, donned an inconspicuous disguise, grabbed Alicia and the bag, and ran. She made sure to plug Alice's ears with wax, expecting the worst during her escape.
And rightfully so. The enforcers chased her throughout the whole of the East District. Gunfire rained all around them as Darcy darted between cover. The child, unable to hear to see anything (her face was constantly stuffed against her mother's chest), only remained confused and nervous throughout it all.
Darcy dashed through the least unprotected spot of the Eastern border. The guards shot at her, ripping several bullets into Darcy's back; she held Alicia close to her chest to shield her from the gunfire. Yet, she disappeared in the dead of night, into the Central District as the Dragons scanned the fields.
Darcy ripped the wax out of Alicia's ears, muttering "I'm sorry, Alice, I'm so sorry..." between her strained breaths. The child didn't know what to say or ask; her mother was never this panicked, before. When Alice glanced around, it was all darkness as they rushed through. A thick smell of iron burnt her nostrils.
Darcy fell as she set foot at the Western District border, pushing Alicia towards the Tiger guards with her last breath. She got a sight of her hands, covered in a warm, red substance.
The young girl didn't know what happened to her mother—the guards immediately took her and covered her eyes, sparing her the sight of Darcy's fate.

Darcy had succeeded; Alice is living as happily as she can be. After the border guards took her in, Alice's Potential rose up; she invited them to a small tea party while "waiting for Mama." The guard people became less tense after a few cups; a few more, and they became despondent, lost in euphoria. Her mother always taught her to "make yourself happy, and make others happy."
The higher-ups who were observing them at the time reported the scene to the Albino Tigers. After some more testing of her Potential's capabilities, the Tigers kindly opened their arms to the orphaned girl. They told her that her mother was going to be busy for a long time, ensuring that they'd reunite however long that would take. Excited, Alice jumped into their grasps, and neither of them ever let go.
And as the years tick by, Alice reaching the age of 18, she has yet to change much from her amicable persona back then. The Tigers warned her that anyone outside their ranks was a stranger—scary monsters that want nothing more than to eat her alive. She is safe wherever they keep her, and she is forever grateful. Alice gets everything she wants: friends for tea parties, flowers, stuffed animals, almost anything. Sometimes they take her along to provide courtesies for people in the form of tea and treats, created by her wonderful Potentiality. Sometimes she's left to her own devices, meeting people who stumble into her home and hosting lavish tea parties, where for some reason they leave vast amounts of money for each cup and plate they take—the Tigers come in weekly to "clean up" the piles.
Alice knows her mother is still busy, but she is always ready for whenever she returns home.

Clay (born August 12, 1999), known online as Dream, is an American YouTuber and Twitch streamer who is known primarily for creating Minecraft content.
Dream has been active online since 2014,[2] but did not gain substantial popularity until 2019, with the release of his "Minecraft Manhunt" YouTube series. Dream has also gained notability for his Minecraft speedruns, however several of his records were struck down due to allegations of cheating, which he did later claimed to have done accidentally.[3][4] Content created in the Dream SMP, Dream's invite-only survival multiplayer (SMP) Minecraft server that stars content creators engaged in roleplay, has also attracted considerable attention and a popular fandom.
As of September 10, 2022, his seven YouTube channels have collectively reached over 41.96 million subscribers and over 3.29 billion views,[a] and his two Twitch channels have collectively gained 7.01 million followers[c] and 19.01 million views.[d] YouTube awarded Dream the Streamy Award for Gaming in both 2020 and 2021. Dream revealed his face for the first time on October 2, 2022, after six years of staying hidden in his videos.[2][5][6]

Dream created his YouTube account on February 8, 2014,[7] and started to upload content regularly in July 2019.[8] The oldest video on Dream's account that is still accessible involves him playing the game Minecraft poorly on purpose in order to "trigger" viewers.[8] As of December 2022, the video has amassed 18 million views.[9]
In July 2019, Dream figured out the seed of a Minecraft world YouTuber PewDiePie was playing on by using reverse engineering techniques that Dream learned from online forums.[8] In November 2019, Dream uploaded a viral video titled "Minecraft, But Item Drops Are Random And Multiplied…" that has amassed 49 million views as of January 2021.[8] In January 2020, Dream uploaded a video in which he and another YouTuber, GeorgeNotFound, connected an Arduino board to an electric dog collar, which emitted an electric shock whenever a player lost health in Minecraft.[10]
In December 2020, in place of their annual YouTube Rewind series, YouTube released a list of their top-trending videos and creators. On the U.S. list, YouTube ranked Dream's "Minecraft Speedrunner VS 3 Hunters GRAND FINALE" video as the number seven "Top Trending Video", and ranked Dream as the number two "Top Creator" and number one "Breakout Creator".[11] A livestream by Dream on YouTube in November 2020 with about 700,000 peak viewers was the 6th highest viewed gaming stream of all time as of January 2021.[12] A December 2020 Polygon article stated that "2020 has been a tremendous year for Dream", describing him as "YouTube's biggest gaming channel of the moment".[13]
In a January 2021 article, Steven Asarch of Business Insider attributed Dream's growth during 2019 and 2020 "to his understanding of the YouTube algorithm", noting that "e puts his keywords in the right places, capitalizes on trends, and makes thumbnails that fans want to click on."[8]
Dream is a member of the "Dream Team", along with fellow YouTubers Sapnap and GeorgeNotFound. The group frequently collaborate to create new content.[14] Dream also had a friendly rivalry with fellow Minecraft YouTuber Technoblade before his death, as they each had a contested recognition for the title of "best Minecraft player".[15]
Minecraft Manhunt
Dream's most popular YouTube series is "Minecraft Manhunt", a format where one player — usually Dream — attempts to complete a speedrun of Minecraft without death, while another player or team of players (the "hunters") attempts to kill the runner or thwart their progress.[16] The first video in the series, titled "Beating Minecraft But My Friend Tries to Stop Me", was published on December 26, 2019.[17] Further videos were published in the following years, featuring incrementally greater numbers of hunters. The final episode of the series was published on February 26, 2022.[18]
Many of the Minecraft Manhunt videos have received tens of millions of views,[19] with one of them ranking sixth in YouTube's Top Trending Videos of 2020.[20] As of February 2022, the most-viewed in Dream's Minecraft Manhunt series has 108 million views.[18]
The series has received positive acclaim. Urian B. wrote in Tech Times that Minecraft Manhunt "requires not only mastery of the terrain but also the ability to think fast on your feet while different choices present themselves with only milliseconds of time for decision making. This is something that Dream is good at, split second decision making."[21] Nicolas Perez from Paste described Minecraft Manhunt as "an experience that leaves me slack-jawed every time", stating that the format of Minecraft Manhunt "seems to guarantee the hunters come out on top. But more often than not, Dream pulls just enough aces out of his sleeve to narrowly beat the hunters, and eventually the game."[16] Gonzalo Cardona, writing for Ginx TV, noted that Minecraft Manhunt had "inspired cult-like montages by fans".[9] Nathan Grayson, writing for Kotaku, said that Minecraft Manhunt had turned Dream "into a household name among Minecraft fans".[22]
Dream SMP

In April 2020, shortly after the release of Minecraft snapshot 20w17a, Dream and George created the Dream SMP, a private Survival Multiplayer (SMP) Minecraft server.[14][23][24][25] Over time, other prominent Minecraft content creators outside of the "Dream Team" have been invited to the server, including TommyInnit, Technoblade, and Wilbur Soot.[citation needed]
The Dream SMP has become very well-known.[26] Its main draw, according to fans, is the roleplay, with major events being loosely scripted in advance and most other elements being improvisation, performed live on YouTube and Twitch.[26] Cecilia D'Anastasio of Wired described the Dream SMP as a form of live theatre and as a "Machiavellian political drama".[27] During January 2021, over 1 million people tuned into Dream SMP livestreams.[27]
Minecraft competitions
Throughout 2020, Dream was a prominent participant in "Minecraft Championship", a monthly Minecraft competition organized by Noxcrew. He won first in both the 8th and 11th Minecraft Championships.[28] In September 2020, during the 10th Minecraft Championship, he played for charity and raised around $3,400.[29]
Music
On February 4, 2021, Dream released his first song, entitled "Roadtrip", in collaboration with PmBata, which garnered over 25 million views on YouTube.[30][31] On May 20, 2021, Dream released his second song, entitled "Mask", which garnered over 24.7 million views on YouTube.[32] An animated music video for "Mask" was released in June of the same year, though it was later deleted.[31] The song and music video received criticism about the lyrics and animation, as well as the negative depiction of prescription drugs, labelled as "normal pills".[31] On August 19, 2021, Dream released his third song, entitled "Change My Clothes", in collaboration with American singer-songwriter Alec Benjamin, which garnered over 8.3 million views on YouTube.[33]
Dream Burger
On April 26, 2021, as a collaboration with Dream, fellow YouTuber MrBeast's fast-food restaurant chain MrBeast Burger released the Dream Burger as a limited-time addition to its menu.[34][35]
Public image and controversies
Dream is purported to be one of the most liked and disliked YouTubers on the platform, with a 2021 SurveyMonkey poll showing that 59.7% of respondents have a favorable view of him and 22.1% who have an unfavorable view.[36] Dream and other members of the Dream SMP have inspired a popular fandom.[37]
On January 1, 2021, Dream was doxed.[8] On January 7, Dream addressed the doxing and denied accusations made against him by his ex-girlfriend.[8]
In June 2021, Dream was criticized for announcing that all revenue generated by his streams in June would go to charity, with critics claiming he did not stream for more than a single day that month.[38] Dream had streamed multiple times on different platforms during the month of June, including at least four streams on Discord, where he encouraged fans to subscribe and donate to his Twitch channel.[39][40] On June 30, 2021, Dream announced that he had donated US$140,000 (US$90,000 from fan contributions and US$50,000 from the Dream Team) to The Trevor Project, an LGBT youth charity.[41]
In response to fellow YouTuber Technoblade's cancer diagnosis, Dream donated US$21,409 to cancer research in late August 2021.[42]

Speedrun cheating scandal
In early October 2020, Dream livestreamed himself speedrunning Minecraft, and submitted one of his times to speedrun.com. He was awarded with 5th place at the time in the "1.16+ random seed glitchless" category.[13] Accusations of Dream cheating in these speedruns first arose on October 16, when another Minecraft speedrunner, in now-deleted Twitter posts, reported seeing higher drop rates for key items in one of the speedrunning attempts that Dream submitted.[44] Dream responded on October 29 in now-deleted Twitter posts, arguing that he had no reason to cheat, that he did not possess the coding knowledge to raise drop rates, and that the data was cherry picked.[45]
On December 11, 2020, following a two-month investigation, speedrun.com's Minecraft verification team removed his submission from the leaderboards. The team published a report, along with a 14-minute video to YouTube, analyzing six archived livestreams of speedrunning sessions by Dream from around the time of the record. The team concluded that the game had been modified to make the chance of obtaining certain items needed to complete the game higher than normal; they argued the odds of obtaining the items in a legitimate way were 1 in 7.5 trillion.[13][44][46] In response, Dream called the investigation clickbait and claimed that it was flawed enough that some members of speedrun.com's moderation team threatened to quit over it. Speedrun.com moderator Geosquare denied the accusation, saying: "All moderators voted unanimously in our decision and no one is threatening to leave in protest", and "From everything we know[,] that [claim] is unsubstantiated or complete hyperbole."[13]
In a YouTube video, Dream maintained that the accusations of his cheating were untrue. In response to the report by speedrun.com, Dream commissioned a report by an anonymous statistician, who Dream claimed was an astrophysicist, that argued the actual odds of Dream obtaining the items legitimately were 1 in 10 million.[19][47] Dot Esports said that the report did not exonerate him, and "at most" it suggested it was not impossible that he was lucky. The moderation team stood by their ruling and issued a rebuttal to Dream's report. In a Twitter post, Dream indicated that he would accept their decision without admitting fault.[44][45][47] On February 4, 2021, Matt Parker, a YouTube personality and recreational mathematician, published a 40-minute video on the controversy supporting the conclusions of the moderators, estimating the actual odds of being 1 in 20 sextillion (2 × 1022).[48][47]
On May 30, 2021, in a written statement, Dream stated that he had in fact been using a "disallowed modification" that altered item drop probabilities, although he maintained that the addition of the modification was unintentional. According to him, this discrepancy was a result of an unknown change to a client mod written for his YouTube channel. In his statement, he said that the item modifications were changed by the developer of the mod, and said that he was unaware of the addition until February 2021.[49] After becoming aware of the addition, he deleted his video response to the speedrun.com moderators. Dream explained that he did not mention his discovery of the addition publicly back then because he "felt like the community had been through enough drama and that it was pointless". He also "didn't want to be the center of controversy for the hundredth time" and that he figured "it would be a story I would tell in a few years when no one really cared."[47]
In a 2021 interview with YouTuber Anthony Padilla, Dream said that he regretted his initial reaction to the cheating scandal, saying that "I handled the situation horribly. When it originally came out, my response was, You guys are idiots, blah blah blah." When asked by Padilla how he thought he should have handled the scandal, Dream said that "I should have shut off all my devices for a couple days and been like, OK, let me not react with emotion."[37]
Personal life
Having not revealed his face until 2022, Dream's real-life identity and many aspects of his personal life are unknown.[8] An American,[50] he was born with the first name "Clay"[51][5] on August 12, 1999,[52] and, as of 2022, resides in Orlando, Florida, with fellow internet personalities GeorgeNotFound and Sapnap.[53] Dream has spoken publicly about his diagnosis with ADHD.[54] His anonymous avatar was inspired by a picture his former girlfriend posted on Discord.[37]
On September 19, 2022, Dream stated that the next YouTube video he would upload would be him revealing his face to the public for the first time.[55][56][57] He revealed his face in said YouTube video, titled "hi, I'm Dream.", thirteen days later, on October 2, 2022.[2][5][6] Dream decided to do a face reveal because he wanted to meet up with friends, explore making new types of content, and do more work outside of his home.[37][58] He also said that he would post "more IRL content" but does not "plan on adding a face cam" to his Minecraft videos.[58] Dream's face reveal prompted both positive and negative comments online.[2] His face reveal video garnered over 21.9 million views and 2.5 million likes in less than a day.[58] As of February 2023, the video has over 53.5 million views and over 4.3 million likes, making it the 13th-most-viewed video on Dream's YouTube channel.[59]
According to Time magazine, "Dream's anonymity has been one of the most alluring aspects of his persona online and that intrigue, paired with his vibrant personality, have helped him build a loyal following across social media platforms." In a 2021 interview with YouTuber Anthony Padilla, Dream said that, while he did not intend to be anonymous, it became too important a part of his online persona for him to abandon at the time.[2]
Dream is a supporter of the University of Oklahoma's athletic teams (known as the Oklahoma Sooners), as he frequently sports Sooners jerseys during public appearances.[60]

Cove has aquamarine eyes, pale green hair, distinctively wavy eyebrows and olive skin. His hairstyle and clothes will change depending on the player's choices or through the Cove creator before the start of each Step after Step 1.For Step 1, Cove's appearance cannot be changed. He has neck-length hair. He wears dark red glasses, a white sleeveless shirt, a black belt with a gold buckle over a pair of khaki shorts, white socks and black shoes. In the Step 1 DLC, he wears a sweater with two shades of brown in "Ghost". He has a blue backpack in "Runaway". He also wears a pink cast due to a jet ski accident. From Step 2 onwards, however, his pink cast will be gone and a thin scar will be visible on his left arm. He was 4'1" tall. [1]
Before Step 2 starts, the player can choose between a bushy or a smoother neck-length hairstyle for Cove in the custom Cove creator. For casual wear, Cove will wear either a red sleeveless shirt with lizard patterns or a navy blue shirt. For his pants, the player can choose from either one of the two striped sweatshorts, blue shorts with a green belt or brown shorts with a brown belt. He can wear an optional brown beaded necklace. He also has the option to wear a pink beaded bracelet on his left wrist and choose between two different brown bracelets for his right wrist. The player can also choose between two optional glasses for him; one with dark green rectangular frames and another with brown round ones.
For sleepwear, he will either wear a violet shirt with a compass design in the middle or a plain blue shirt. He will always wear white pants. Finally, the player can choose between a black-and-gray or a pink-and-white jacket which he wears in "Road Trip". During "Wave" and by the end of Step 2 if he is at least friends with the protagonist, he wears a black-and-blue wetsuit. If the player has the Step 2 DLC, he wears green plaid sweatshorts at the start of "Soiree" while hanging out at the beach. If the main character invites him, he will wear a black formal shirt and black pants. He was 5'4" tall. [1]
On the Step 3 Cove creator, the player can choose between three hairstyles for Cove: long hair hanging loosely, ponytail or short hair. He can wear one of the three optional glasses and two of the optional earrings. For casual, he will wear either a black shirt with an anchor design, a denim shirt that fades into white at the bottom with folded sleeves over a white undershirt, or a striped sleeveless shirt with different shades of yellow. He will wear green pants, black pants, beige sweatshorts, white sweatshorts or denim pants with a brown belt. Cove can wear either a silver bracelet or a black watch on his left wrist, and either a black bracelet, brown bracelet, or three bangles on his right wrist. He can wear an optional necklace with an anchor design.
For his pajamas, Cove wears a 3/4 sleeve shirt with wings design around the neck and shoulders, as well as plaid pants. The player can choose between two color schemes for both. For swimwear, he will wear either blue or pink sweatshorts. For formal wear, the player has two black long sleeve shirts as options with one of them having line patterns, and black pants with a gray belt. Cove mentions that he almost always goes barefoot wherever he goes. He wears an ORCA shirt in "Hang" and "Charity". If the player has the Step 3 DLC, he is shown wearing a full-on black-and-yellow wetsuit in "Reflection". The protagonist can give him a bracelet as a gift which he wears at Step 3. He is 6'0" tall. Cove has four hairstyles for Step 4: short hair, smooth wavy hair, bushy hair, and man bun. He has the option of wearing red, black, or brown glasses. He can wear black earrings, two silver helix piercings, or both. He can also have a blue water-themed or a greenish-gray spotted tattoo. He has two possible body types: slim and buff.
For the majority of the Step, he wears either a white tank top with a single dark blue chest pocket clumsily tucked into his pants, a maroon sleeveless shirt with a white anchor design in the middle, a yellow t-shirt with floral patterns at the top part, or a dark blue shirt with white flower designs across it. He has four pants options: khaki pants, denim pants, black slacks, and black plaid pants.
His accessories include red and blue bracelets clamped together, an assortment of various colored bracelets, and a single black bracelet on his left wrist, and a brown bracelet with a boat steering wheel in the middle, a gray bracelet, and a gold watch on his right wrists. For necklace, he has the option of wearing a round object resembling a small lifesaver tied to a black string, or a beaded choker. Lastly, he can wear shades with either a black or blue tint.
Cove wears a gold or silver ring if he is engaged to the protagonist and the players is okay with him wearing it. Before going to anniversary party with the main character's moms, he changes into a white long-sleeved shirt with gray birds printed on it and gray slacks with a brown belt. He wears blue polka dot boxers in one scene. He is 6'4" in this Step. [1]

| “ | Cove as a character concept was created to work with all the different features/themes/aesthetics of the game. He had to be certain ways in order to fit with everything else planned for the project. So, initially, he was pretty hollow. It was a puzzle to imagine how someone with all these practicality requirements could come off like a natural person. But I was able to start fleshing him out more/getting invested in him by focusing on my favorite parts of character development- what makes them difficult/flawed, haha. From there his development over the years all began to flow into place. | ” |
Some aspects of Cove's personality change depending on the player's choices and Cove creator, ranging from warm to cold and studious to sporty. However, the game states that Cove will always remain introverted and sentimental. He is also easily flustered and described as a crybaby; he cries a lot regardless if he is sad or happy.
As a kid, Cove is blunt. He will say anything on his mind even if it leads to an argument. As a result, he always goes toe to toe with Elizabeth whenever they interact. He is also not afraid to ask questions when he wants to know something. Although his intent is harmless, his tactless curiosity has once caused Shiloh to snap at him.
However, his honesty means that he also gives out sincere compliments. This is shown when he visited the protagonist's room after their first meeting, praising them for a drawing that they made. He also shows politeness when he looks at one of the protagonist's seashells, displaying genuine interest for it before proceeding to reject their offer of giving it to him, saying he doesn't want to take it from them. He often verbally expresses his gratitude to people who he thought helped him, no matter their intent.
He was also a bit cold. Unless if he is friends with them, the protagonist mentions how Cove is either always sad or disinterested and will rarely smile. He also answers as briefly as possible, especially towards his father. Nevertheless, Step 1 Cove still had a mature side. He chose to understand why Shiloh got angry at him regardless of what the protagonist says about Shiloh's reason. As he grows up, he develops a somewhat laid-back personality. In addition, Cove either becomes more talkative or will start to keep things to himself depending on the player's choices or through the Cove creator by the warm-to-cold scale.
Cove was also showed as somewhat of a slob. There are several instances in each Step where Cove would be shown wiping his hands on his pants after eating or mentioned to be doing so by his father. At Step 3, he also flicks salt residue from his fingers to the protagonist if the they tease him about behaving like a kid.
Background
During Cove's first summer in Sunset Bird, he would often say that he wants to go back to his old home. Though not much is revealed about Cove's life before he meets the protagonist, he mentions that his parents used to have a lot of arguments. According to him, they would stay in the same room only long enough to have lunch. He claims that they might have liked each other, but that their relationship was already bad when he was old enough to remember anything.He becomes the protagonist's neighbor after his parents' divorce and will go to the same school as them. The rest of his childhood and adolescence is spent on Sunset Bird. The first time the protagonist meets him, he tells them that he used to own a hill back in his old home.
He would occasionally visit his mother in Nevada, usually during summer and winter breaks. He would stay in her apartment for a few weeks. She once stayed in Sunset Bird during the Step 2 summer break. Afterwards, it is implied that she had been visiting Cove every now and then while he does the same.
He mentions during "Sleepover" that prior to the one he had with the main character, he has never been to a sleepover before. It was also hinted that he had friends before meeting the main character, but claims that they are the first person he considers as his best friend if they are not indifferent towards him.
Relationships
Main Character
Cove first meets the protagonist when the latter approaches him on the hill behind the protagonist's house. Their relationship is highly dependent on the player's choices and the how they feel for Cove in each step.If the protagonist is indifferent towards Cove, he sees them as just a neighbor and interacts with them only if needed. He does wants to get close to them, but respects their decision of not getting close with him. There are a couple of things he will not do with them if he does not like them like letting them accompany him on "Sleepover" on the way back to his house or outright telling them he does not want their balloon if they offer to give it to him in "Shopping". Although both of their parents do their best to let the two of them become close with each other, they will eventually understand that Cove and the player are merely acquaintances by Step 3. There will still be opportunities to hang out with Cove; although his appearance will be limited compared to if the player is interested in him. Most of his responses towards them will be brief and cold.
If the main character is fond of Cove, they become friends. Some of his interests shift towards the protagonist's, like him picking the same sport that they would pick in "Grown Up". Otherwise, he would automatically choose volleyball. He will also let them win in "Fireflies" during their impromptu race with Elizabeth and Shiloh. If the protagonist develops a crush for Cove or is in love with him (only available in Step 3 and 4), it is possible for them to confess to each other as early as the end of Step 2. Depending on the player's choices, Cove will overcome his nervousness and confess to the player by the end of Step 3. If they show interest with or date each other, the player can control some of Cove's forwardness when it comes to their relationship. At times, Cove flirts with them; showering them with compliments or even showing physical affection depending on the level of initiative that the player picked. He is thoughtful towards them, often remembering the things that they like.
No matter how close they are, Cove always respects the protagonist. He considers them an important part of his life.
Although usually on friendly terms with each other, there are instances that Cove will get angry at the protagonist. This is shown when he storms out of the protagonist's house in "Talks" if they have a disagreement on how to handle Miranda and Terry's argument. He also becomes temporarily infuriated with them if they ask Kyra about the reason she divorced Cliff which dissolves after she maturely handles the question.
Cliff
Cliff is the father of Cove. After Cliff and Kyra's divorce, they have a strained relationship. Although Cliff does his best for Cove to adjust comfortably to their new home, his son is usually cold towards him at the start of the game. There are instances where Cove would express his annoyance to his father showing physical affection towards him like patting his head and hugging him. On the other hand, there are times where Cove knows he is wrong and would apologize to his father, such as when he tried to run away from Sunset Bird in "Runaway". During "Ghost", Cove mentions that his father is never happy with what he does. Cliff, however, always extends his patience when dealing with Cove and chooses not to punish him if he runs away.Depending on which Step the protagonist admits about the incident when Cove's dad gives twenty dollars to them so they can be friends with Cove, Cove will react differently. He would be angry at his father during Step 1 and 2, but would laugh about it in Step 3. It is also shown in Step 3 that he loves teasing his father and that he would use the twenty-dollar-bill incident to make fun of him occasionally.
Throughout the years, both of them became closer. Cove has decided to open up more to his father in attempt to remedy Cliff's impulsiveness when it comes to making other people happy. He claims that Cliff would stop doing things he thinks are good for other people when he actually knows what will make them happy. He even offers to wait for Baxter's arrival so that he can tell his father about their new neighbor. Cove also appreciates some of the things his father does for him like giving him pet fishes or warning him in "Errands" about the plans made by the main character's moms.
Kyra
Kyra is Cove's mother. Even though they spend little time together, he still loves and misses her. If the player has the Step 1 DLC, Cove even goes as far as to try to visit her in "Runaway" because he is afraid that she will forget him. Eventually, however, he learns to accept the decision of his parents and makes an effort to bond with both of them instead of being angry.At the start of Step 2, he was frustrated with his mother's surprise visit instigated by his father because it feels different to him than when he visits her in Nevada. She offers to go back and let him visit her instead, but he ultimately decides that he wants her to be there because he likes hanging out with her. Cove claims that the memories he makes with his mother are unforgettable. He makes a guess that this is because she feels like she should make an effort to hang out with her son while she still can before she returns to Nevada or Cove returns to Sunset Bird.
Elizabeth
Even though Cove does not consider Elizabeth as a friend as he declares in "Sleepover", they do have some instances where they get along; though usually short-lived. He finds her to be very assertive and too competitive for his laid-back personality. Whenever she does things that he does not approve of or her just being bossy in general, Cove is vocal about his objection and is ready to argue with her. There are times where they may show concern for one another, but they do not get along for the most part.Cove is easily flustered by Elizabeth's teasing, especially when he has a crush on the main character. He responds to her by showing his annoyance. If he does not have a crush on the protagonist, he makes his own comeback against her as shown in "Roadtrip", effectively turning Elizabeth's teasing against her. However, they have even less interactions with each other during Step 3.
Derek
Derek is one of Cove's close friends. They had the chance to interact due to both of their fathers being business partners. Both of them hang out in "Mall" along with the protagonist and Lee.Despite being friends, their interests do not necessarily align all the time like when Cove said that he liked the scuba diving part in their parents' business among other things while Derek preferred the business part itself. They still highly respect each other, though, with Cove appreciating Derek's positive responses during their interactions.
If Cove has a crush on the protagonist, Cove becomes flustered of some of Derek's unintentionally playful remarks like how he is always in the main character's house.
It is unclear whether or not they still talk to each other during the events of Step 3.
Terry
Terry belongs to Cove's circle of friends during Step 3. They bond over their mutual love for the ocean. It is shown how comfortable Terry is with Cove by the way he envelopes him in a bone-crushing hug. Later on, they hang out in "Hang" along with the protagonist and Miranda. Although he does not feel comfortable with Baxter during "Hang", Cove will still hang out with Terry unless the protagonist gives him an excuse to go back with him to their neighborhood.He also worries a lot for Terry. When both Miranda and Terry fought, he showed concerned for Terry by texting him to know what happened between the two of them. He becomes agitated when Terry does not immediately respond and would constantly check his phone to see if he contacted him back. While waiting, Cove would try to think of how he and the protagonist can help Terry and Miranda make up.
Miranda
If the player has the Step 2 DLC, the protagonist and Cove will become close to Miranda after attending her birthday party. Otherwise, they will still be friends with her during Step 3 after Cove becomes close with Terry.Both the protagonist and Cove get invited to Miranda's birthday party in "Birthday". If they attend, completing the said moment will let them slowly improve their relationship and become friends between the events of Step 2 and the start of Step 3. By Step 3, Miranda, along with Terry, greets Cove after he gets back to Sunset Bird. They continue to hang out in "Hang" with Terry and the protagonist as friends. During "Talk", Miranda calls the protagonist and Cove where they both try their best to reconcile Miranda and Terry after their fight.
Baxter
Cove is shown to be uncomfortable with the way Baxter talks. When Cove first met Baxter, the latter would unintentionally say things that sound flirty which the former does not appreciate. Cove can then choose to either be civil or cautious towards him depending on his warm-to-cold scale, though he voices out his discomfort with the compliments regardless. Although he does not dislike him, Cove makes an effort to avoid interacting with Baxter. He does not greet him in "Hang" unless forced to do so by the main character. If the protagonist and Cove are dating, he takes the opportunity to mention it to Baxter as soon as possible in an attempt to limit him from giving misleading praises to Cove and the main character.Noelani & Pamela
The protagonist's moms care for Cove. At the start of Step 1, they help Cliff in finding Cove after he runs away to the hill behind their house. They also search for him in "Runaway", with Pamela being the one to find him. They understand that Cove is going through a lot after the divorce and assist Cliff in trying to find ways to make Cove adjust to his new life in Sunset Bird. They also make an effort to make their children befriend Cove like inviting him in "Sleepover" and being worried when he tells them he does not consider Elizabeth as a friend. When Cove and Elizabeth have a disagreement in "Grown Up" and the protagonist tells the truth about what happened, they make her apologize to him through the phone.In future Steps, they have developed a sense of familiarity towards Cove if the player is at least friends with him since he will always hang around in their house. They even make playful remarks to tease him in certain circumstances, like if the protagonist is dating him and they comment about how clingy he is towards them in "Errands". Despite having a cordial relationship with them, however, he is not afraid to call them out whenever they do something that he does not appreciate as shown when they abandoned him and the protagonist in the farmers' market.
Shiloh
Shiloh feels fidgety around Cove. Although he tries his best to interact with him, Cove is indifferent towards him. They do not interact much since Shiloh is usually attached to Elizabeth. However, Cove once unintentionally made Shiloh angry by not giving him a chance to talk and saying that it's weird whenever he turns red. In return, Shiloh snapped at him and started throwing remarks of his own. Shiloh was also shown to be suspiciously happy if Cove gets left out during "Sandcastle" when he builds a castle while Shiloh and the protagonist build houses. However, he almost always shows a polite side towards Cove; often waving at him as a greeting. Cove does communicate willingly with him sometimes and even praises his attention to detail in "Sandcastle".In later years, Cove's indifference toward Shiloh does not change much. In 'Serendipity' he does seem happy for Shiloh in the regard that he seems more confident than he was when they were kids. And in the Wedding DLC, he doesn't mind if his spouse wants to invite Shiloh over.
Jeremy
Jeremy and Cove are hostile towards each other due to the former's personality. The first time they met, Jeremy insults Cove's eyebrows after complaining about his parents. He continuously finds ways to berate Cove and the protagonist whenever he shows up in the game. Cove and the protagonist turn him into their inside joke with the former imitating his personality to make fun of him to which the protagonist can play along.The two meet again during "Serendipity". Although unfriendly to each other during Step 2, Cove's view on Jeremy changes due to the latter's major personality change. He becomes curious of what Jeremy thinks of him despite Jeremy saying that getting his opinion would be pointless. After Jeremy gives his opinion on Cove, the latter thinks that the former is not that bad after all and that he would not mind if they talked again.
Lee
Lee interacts with Cove occasionally. Though they do not talk as much, they still hang out with each other during "Mall" along with Derek and the protagonist. They do get into an argument during the said moment if the protagonist forgets their money and wants a smoothie, with both offering to pay for them, but it's mostly harmless and temporary.backstory: i mmoved him here to save him from new oasis
