For months now, the Monolith has been towering on the horizon, an ever present threat risen up from Hell itself. Casting its shadow on those gathered together inside the walls of the base. The dead have been steadily wandering closer, the haunting sound of baying hounds echoing over the frozen ground, and the signs of a larger, more ferocious beast left in the splattering of blood on snow.

Scott and his team have good reason to believe that a more violent assault is an inevitability. The only question is when. With that in mind, Marcus has tasked select individuals with gathering information on what they're up against. The information found might present each group with a choice; to run and abandon their safe haven, or to face the dungeons of the Monolith and destroy what waits inside.

FOR THE PLAYERS: This thread will be for your group to rp within themselves. Think of it as a sandbox, any event (within reason) that you want to go down you can. You have full range of the area and the monsters that have been put into the lore page. If you need some ideas you are welcome to bounce anything off the admins but this is to mainly give you guys some more open world freedom. NPCs, as always, can be controlled by anyone. You do not have to stay in your specific area, you may interact with people from other groups just put those posts in the main thread. I may or may not tack on a starter for you guys, if you don't want one let me know and I won't worry about it.

ANNOUNCING: THE MONOLITH

→ the gates
It comes climbing down the wall of the monolith, jagged claws tearing up stone and ice as it descends. The group is faced with a monster they never thought they'd ever encounter, a Beelzask.
Guarding the massive entryway to the monolith stand two guards. Juggernauts, twice as tall as any man, armor covering massive frames, helms sitting upon their heads with only holes for eyes.
→ the well of souls
A gaping chasm sits in the center of the monolith’s first level, twisted and tormented souls spiraling upwards through the center of the tower. The moment human life enter its presence, those haunted souls begin to possess the bones littering the ground, raising up an army to stop their passage through.
At the base of the stairway leading to the next level, a larger monster begins to take shape. A demonic entity, dragging the bones of long dead corpses with the souls of the damned burning in a hollow rib cage, destroy it.
→ the labyrinth
The top of the first winding stairwell is marked by cobwebs hanging thick and heavy, a twisting mess of broken stone walls and bodies imprisoned by white silk. The cause of it is a massive eight-legged creature that works through the shadows, waiting to claim more victims.
The moment the nest is disturbed, the dried husks of old corpses reanimate themselves, reaching out to try and pull anyone passing by into the same webs they’ve been caught in, and devour them.
→ the cursed halls
The next set of stairs leading up lets out into a long hallway, doors shut to either side, and the Lich’s queen standing in the way. An ancient vampiress who’s been just as twisted by her lord’s powers, capable of wielding dark blood magics, either hers, or those she feeds on.
The two monsters they find themselves facing were once long dead heroes that thought they could destroy the Lich claiming dominion over the monolith. Now they are bound to his queen’s will.
→ the throne room
Almost to the throne room, they are stopped by the appearance of three black robed figures guarding the final set of stairs, their eyes just as dark and blackened.
The moment they pass through the doorway into that last inner sanctum, the doors slam shut behind them. The Lich might sit on the throne before them, but two reanimated golems still stand in their way.
All that’s left before them is the king on his throne, an ancient Lich whose eyes glow blue, spirit twisted into something demonic thanks to his own dark magics. Destroy the Lich.

FOR THE PLAYERS:
  • Keep in mind this is only for the monolith, the journey there will take about four days. During that time you guys will be going through two separate towns that have been taken over by the Lich.
  • As this is a moderately planned assault, characters are welcome to bring any items they may find useful in preparation. (Hand grenades, homemade explosives, magical talismans, etc.)
  • There is no time limit and you guys certainly do not need to follow this, it is only a guide.
  • Please remember that this is a sandbox for this mini group if you wish to spawn other monsters go for it.
  • Any major injuries, character death, possessions, infections, or other major plot devices must be approved by an admin first.

The-beginning-starter
The world was white; visibility, a joke; and the cold crept in without anyone's consent. Scott had been leading this larger group for the better part of three hours now. The airbase was miles behind them, but that didn't mean they were close to the monolith yet. A frown tugged at his lips, pushing against a gale of wind that had almost threatened to topple him over. He always hated this part of the journey. It was long and filled with paranoia. Though he felt a bit more uneasy than usual given the threat that he had received hours earlier. He didn't think Rhys was capable of making good on threats like that, but from the way the man's blessing had all but overpowered his...Scott wasn't foolish enough to completely dismiss it.

In the distance he could make out the distinct impression of buildings and he halted. "There's a town up ahead. An' it's probably crawlin' with those bloody revenants or somethin of the sort. Best stick together on the way through, we'll try 'n make camp on the other side. There ain't much shelter down there that isn't bloody well infested."

He waited for them to say something before he was off, trudging back through knee deep snow and wishing they could get to the monolith faster so that he could get back to February and March.
