Hello! Welcome to "The World is Under Maintenance So We Decided To Use Magical Mechs To Fix It" or "Under Maintenance" for short. This is a casual roleplay that was created to satisfy our hunger for a roleplay that won't eat up too much of our time. Under Maintenance will be mainly about our cast's adventures with their magi-tech-run mechs in a future alternative Earth.

Meaning, this will be an RP about humans (with magical cat AI's) in a mildly fantasy and futuristic society. Under Maintenance will be heavily focused on magical mecha themes while being set in a post-post apocalyptic era. But fortunately or unfortunately you won't really see many apocalyptic elements as the recovery period has already passed. The human mages in this story have already adapted to their way of life.

Also, while this rp might be labeled as Casual, this doesn't mean we will be lowering our standards for this rp. We will still be using an application process before allowing the successful applicants to submit their character sheets. We are also asking that you respect our decisions and not cross our boundaries/comfort zones. We only ask our fellow roleplay members to keep conflicts to a minimum. If there's a problem, please sort it out in DMs instead of causing others in the roleplay discomfort. If you need a mediator (read: babysitter), ask one of us.

Disclaimer: If you think you see similarities to Monster Hunter, God Eater, etc as well as a certain light novel...you're probably right. But it was an accident that we only realized halfway through our feverish marathon of brainstorming.

Main points of the RP
  • HUMANS (they can train to be mages)
  • MECHA
  • The mecha are unique to the mages. They’re specifically calibrated to each pilot.
  • Each Mage/Pilot specializes in an element class that is augmented by their mech.
  • If you see us borrowing monsters from various games...hush. If birb has to make up new monsters for each mission her hands will break and this wouldn’t be a casual rp anymore.
  • Each mech has a personalized magical cat AI that can only run maintenance on the mech. It can also give you communications notifications but it can’t control the mech or anything. That’s on your mastery over mech puppetry.
  • There are multiple Bio-Dome City-States but we will be focusing on the lives of those who live in Sigma.
  • No you can’t RP as a cat or a mechanic or a researcher. We’re focusing on the lives of the Pilot Mages.
  • The job of the Pilot Mages and their mechs is to protect the Bio-Domes from monster aggression, escorting, resource gathering, etc. Basically their responsibility lies in most things outside of the Bio-Domes.
  • Uh. If you were looking for some serious apocalyptic fantasy mecha plot...I’m sorry you won’t find it here. Most of the “mystery” or missing portions in the world’s history is just us saying “we’ll come back to it after the rp is running”.
  • This is a casual rp. Just with standards. But yeah still a casual because our lives are too busy for anything more detailed.

It'll vary but if you're going to take a break during the RP that's fine. Just give us a heads up if your week is looking too busy so nobody is awkwardly twiddling their thumbs waiting for a reply. No need to give us a doctor's note. Just "can't do this week" is fine lol. This is going to be a pretty chill RP. Even from any of the GM's you're probably looking at a post once a week from each of us. If you're lucky we get twice a week. We just want common courtesy and fun times.

Weekly post is perfect for my schedule! Considering the fantasy elements are there any requirements for the mechs I should be aware of (such as looking like an actual person/creature or a more traditional sci fi look)?

It'll be with a traditional sci fi look. Under Maintenance is fairly futuristic looking BUT it's powered by magic instead of electricity. The Pilot Mages actually hunt the monsters both to cull the numbers to keep their populations safe but also keep the Bio-Domes running. The monster cores = Catalyst Cores. And the people of Under Maintenance use the Catalyst Cores in their daily lives. Further details will be in the lore section of the RP when we get it up. >w>b

    • Hello! We're still open to applicants! We go by two phases: Application Phase where you show us your plan for your character and the traditional Character Sheet Phase where you actually post your character. Right now we're still in the Application Phase.

    We're also thinking of keeping the recruitment status open instead of closing it after a certain amount of time. So if anyone sees this message later on, no need to ask us if we're open! We'll be keeping Under Maintenance open to applicants!
